Then he pulled back and looked down at the buttons on the waistcoat she was wearing. “Wait. Is this the same…they are! These are the same clothes you were wearing the night we saw the first vampeen.”

“When I found out you were an elf and Zack was a vampire and I was supposed to be the savior of the world, according to some ancient prophecy I’d never heard of,” Beth said, smiling.

“Well, that didn’t work out, did it?” Zack said dryly.

Even Lindal laughed. He toyed with the buttons on her waistcoat. “If I remember correctly, these buttons got torn off.”

“They did,” Beth said, struggling to keep her tone calm.

“While you were sitting on my knee, in Zack’s car,” Lindal added.

Zack leaned forward. “The Maserati is just outside.” His voice was low, thick with lust.

Lindal got to his feet and pulled Beth out from behind the table, onto the floor next to the booth. “How fast can we get the bill paid and get out of here?”

Beth let him lead her from the bar, her hand in his, with Zack brushing up behind her in his haste. The two of them, a son of night and a son of morning and they loved her.

She had no idea what the future held. She suddenly didn’t care, either. It was enough that they were in it.
