Nearly twenty years later, from England, Sylvia wrote that she hoped someday to be able to afford having “Grammy’s” desk sent over for Frieda, her daughter, to use.

Ted’s interest in drama occupied him for much of the 1960s. He wrote an adaptation of Seneca’s
Oedipus
which Peter Brook directed at the Aldwych Theatre with Sir John Gielgud and Irene Worth. Then, also with Brook, Hughes wrote the largely non-verbal
Orghast
at
Persepolis
which was performed in Paris and Iran in 1970 and 1971.
