“Hmmm.”

He changes the subject. “Talked to the DA about Dale. Slam dunk case. With Dale’s prior convictions and record coupled with the accident where he killed both Rhodes’s pregnant wife and the bar fly he was fucking named Gina Ratliff, he’ll rot in prison. How’s your mom holding up?”

I grit my teeth. I’d wanted to strangle Dale after what he did but there was never an opportunity. Prison just seems like too easy of a sentence after all he’s done. “She’s fine. I spoke to her on the phone a couple of times this week. All she does is rehash the entire fight she’d had with Dale beforehand as if the accident is somehow her fault. Thank fuck she’s been staying away from The Lounge though. I think she’s depressed but after some time away from him, maybe she can get her shit straight.”

“What about Rhodes?” he questions. “He holding any hard feelings toward you?”

Frowning, I shake my head. “No, he knows how much I hated that asshole. He just wants justice for his wife and baby.”

My phone beeps and I pull it up to see I’ve received a text from Amethyst.

Ames: I’m going to try and buddy up to her tonight when I meet her…I’ll fish for information about your sister.

Her text has my calm demeanor faltering and I sit up quickly to reply back.

Me: Let it go, A. I’ll get my answers eventually.

Logan, noticing my distraction swivels in his chair to face his safe behind his desk. From over my phone I pay attention as he types in the six numbers—six numbers that are different than the ones he types on his phone. Exactly backwards to be exact. My first instinct is to drive right over to see Nadia and try this code on the door. But, a part of me, the old me, still wants something in return for it. I may not necessarily want to fuck her or even ruin her, but I really want for her to remember something about that day. Anything.

Ames: Black or red? I’m at the mall and trying to decide on dresses.

I lift my gaze from my phone and see him move a file to pull out a small handful of hundred dollar bills. After he shoves the file back into place, he slams the safe shut and jerks his head to look at me.

But my eyes are back on my phone responding back to Amethyst’s text.

Me: Whichever one shows more skin…

Logan clears his throat and narrows his eyes at me. Curiosity is killing him. It’s painted all over his face—his eyes nosily trying to read what’s on my screen. Tucking my phone into my front pocket, I raise an eyebrow at him.

“What’s with the money?”

He grunts as he stands and shoves it his pocket. “Nadia’s going to need something to wear. I’m going to take her shopping. I want eyes on Donovan before the party. Make sure he isn’t planning something stupid.” His hand motions toward the door and I take my cue to leave.

“Donovan’s always up to something. He likes to win,” I tell him as we exit his office. He closes the door behind him and locks it.

“Well, I like to win too,” he says with a smirk. “And this time I will win.”

Donovan strides from the lodge, a glare marring his features, as he approaches my car. When he taps the glass, I roll down my window.

“Don’t you think you should go get ready for the party instead of following my ass around all day? Doesn’t that fucker have better things to worry about than me?” he demands and crosses his arms over his chest. “Besides, I thought we talked about this. You said you’d help me.”

“No, I said I’d see what I could do. Anyway, I’m about to leave to go change and then pick up Amethyst. He’s my boss, Donovan,” I tell him with a shrug. “I have to do what he says.”

He leans into my car and scowls. “Fine. Whatever. It doesn’t matter because I have a plan.”

My brows shoot up. “What sort of plan?”

“I need to get her alone so I can talk to her. Logan’s gotten inside her head, and I want to find out what it is he’s using against her. If this is some blackmail bullshit, I’ll pay him off. I’ll do whatever it takes to get her out from under his roof and back under mine.” He begins pacing next to my car.

“I doubt he’s blackmailing her,” I say carefully, “but I have seen them together. He’s kind of possessive. Do you think he hurts her?”

I’ve done it.

I kicked the angry hornets’ nest.

Donovan’s gaze snaps to mine with a murderous glare. “What are you saying? Do you know something you’re not telling me? Is he fucking putting his hands on her?” he snarls in a furious rage, his shoulders heaving with each breath he takes. “So help me. If she has one single bruise—”

“I’m not saying he does hurt her,” I lie. “But I’m asking what
if
he did?”

He hisses, “Then I would fucking kill him.”

“You can’t kill him. And don’t tell that to a cop, man.” I shake my head and pull out my phone. Flipping to the picture of the pipe, I hold it out to him. “Why would this be in his house?”

Donovan snatches my phone and his eyes narrow as he inspects the pipe closely. “Those are the types of pipes that bring in the water supply to this lodge and big commercial properties like hotels and chain stores. Is this behind the wall?”

I nod and hold my hand out.

He sets the phone back in my palm and lets out a rush of breath. “Why the fuck does he have such a thing in his house?”

Shrugging, I pocket my phone and regard him. He’s back to pacing beside the car. “I was hoping you’d know the answer. Nadia mentioned something about Logan punishing her with water. Something’s going on in that basement too. It’s fitted with a keypad. Nadia wants in there badly.”

I want to mention she was ready to spread her legs in order to get the code but it seems inappropriate to poke the bear when he’s five seconds from slaughtering Logan Baldwin judging from the angry shade of purple on his face and the way the vein on his forehead bulges.

“This is fucking ridiculous. I knew I should have dragged her out of there when I had the chance. Jesus, I need to talk some goddamned sense into her, Kasper. Tonight, I need you to distract Logan. I’ll whisk her away and pull information out of her. Please help me,” he begs. His blue eyes darken with rage. “This is important.”

“What do I get in return? I don’t need your money.”

He seems relieved I’m even entertaining the idea. “I’ll give you every lead, every contact, every detail we’ve uncovered over the past decade on your sister’s kidnapping. I can’t promise it’ll be a lot but Nadia has spent the better part of the last ten years meeting with Logan to give him more information in hopes it’ll lead somewhere useful.”

“Bullshit,” I say with a harsh laugh and shake my head. “I’ve seen the file. A few times. There haven’t been any new details added to it. The file has been dormant this entire time.”

His brows scrunch together as he stares at me incredulously. “I’ve gone with her on several occasions and listened to her recount things she remembered. We even saw a hypnotherapist in Vegas at one point. It helped her remember some details. After that, we flew back here and went straight to Logan. It’s all in the file. Or it should be all in the file.”

My heart races and my palms begin to sweat. “Do you think Logan would keep a separate file on my sister? One I wouldn’t have access to?” All I can think about is his safe in his office. A single file laid on top of his money and now I’m going crazy with the need to know what’s inside it.

“Logan may be the king of this town,” he says with a cold bite to his voice, “but he’s no saint. Trust me, man.”

We stare each other down for a moment before I nod. “Fine, I’ll get you your moment at the party. But tomorrow, I’m going to see if this so-called separate file on my sister exists. If you’re bullshitting me, I swear to God you’ll be sorry.”

He smiles before he takes off in a sprint toward his car, calling over his shoulder, “I’m not bullshitting you, Kasper. Thank you.”

“N
ope.” Logan’s bored tone grates on my nerves. I’ve tried on half the store and nothing is satisfying him.

“Why not?” I demand in exasperation.

His eyes cut from his phone screen to look up at me. Anger flashes in his eyes. I immediately hate myself for snapping at him.

“Because it shows too much skin,” he says in a low, clipped voice.

I let out a sigh and shrug my shoulders in annoyance. “This is stupid,” I mutter under my breath and fling the door to the dressing room back open. I’ve barely made it inside when a strong grip is on my bicep.

Logan hauls me into the room and locks the door behind him. His eyes are rage-filled when they meet mine. I’m stunned silent wondering if he’ll hit me with people nearby. But thankfully he doesn’t hit me.

“Get on your knees,” he hisses between his teeth. “Now.”

I give him a slight shake of my head. “But what if someone hears.”

He brutally digs is fingers into my throat and glares at me. When he speaks, his spittle showers down on me. “I don’t give a fuck if they hear or not.”

“But—”

I’m cut short when he squeezes my throat. My fingers claw at his wrist but he lifts me slightly from the ground, a snarl on his lips. “But nothing. In case you forget, doll, I can ruin your life with the push of a button. Don’t fuck with me. Now get on your knees and suck my dick.”

I nod as best as I can until he releases me. I’m dizzy and shaking but I drop to my knees. He’s still wearing his dress slacks from work. His erection is thick and straining behind the fabric. I work quickly to free him. The moment his cock juts out at me, he thrusts it toward me. Not wasting another second, I run my tongue across his tip once before sliding my lips down over his hardness.

He grips my hair in both hands and tangles his fingers in my hair. Breathing through my nose, I attempt to relax my throat because I know what he plans to do. Without warning, he slams his dick deep into my throat. I’ve learned that with Logan, you don’t fight it. You do whatever it takes to make it go faster. Tears roll down my cheeks and drip from my jaw as he fucks my throat. Every so often I feel the urge to gag but distract myself with playing with his balls. Anything to get him to hurry and come.

“Yes,” he groans and picks up his pace.

My teeth scrape his shaft but he doesn’t seem to mind. Slobber runs down my chin. A bruise begins to form at the back of my throat where the tip of his dick slams into me painfully with each pound into my mouth.

He lets out a soft groan a half second before his heat explodes in my mouth. It gushes down my esophagus. I gulp his orgasm down in an effort to hurry and get him out of my mouth. Once his cock stops twitching, he slides out of me, detangles his fingers from my hair, and pats me on the head.
