Chapter One

Nathan, or Dr. Franks as everyone knew him, loved women. He loved everything about them, from their soft skin, to the way they smelled, to how their nails dug into his back when he made love to them.

He’d always been a ladies’ man, enjoying the fact he was never on his own for long. Oh, he wasn’t planning on getting hitched any time soon, but now that he’d come back to the Pride, he knew he would have to curb his tendencies.

As one of the Alpha’s sons, he had a reputation to uphold. As the only doctor left in the Pride, he had a clientele to build. It was a good thing he wasn’t as dominant as his two brothers, Jay and Andy. Whenever he treated someone, all it took was a smile and people knew they could trust him. He depended on that. Too bad, his new nurse hadn’t gotten the memo.

“Kellie, what did I tell you yesterday?” He sighed, rubbing his forehead tiredly.

“I know my job, Dr. McDreamy,” she muttered under her breath as she walked past him, grabbing the chart she’d left unattended on the counter.

“Make sure you do,” he called out after her, watching her corkscrew curls bounce all over her head. She was so freaking aggravating.
What did I do to deserve this?
he asked himself for the hundredth time.

He’d only taken over the town’s practice the previous Monday, but already, she was getting under his skin. It wasn’t that he didn’t like her. No, well, maybe. She had the potential to be a good nurse, but she had the worst temperament he’d ever seen. Everything he said, mostly constructive criticism or so he’d thought anyway, she slapped back in his face.

He saw the way she looked at him, her dark brows forming a line as if she couldn’t stand the sight of him. She didn’t even know him! How could she hate him already? He knew she’d been transferred from another Pride, the rumor going round being that they couldn’t deal with her anymore. Which made total sense to him.

He wasn’t sure how long he’d be able to cope with her acting like this. He loved women, but Kellie might be the exception to this rule. It wasn’t that she looked bad either. She wasn’t his type, a bit too curvy and well, moody, for him, but… Shit! Why am I still thinking about her when I should be working?

Shaking his head, he bent down to check who was next on the list when the front doors burst open and an agitated woman walked in. “Help me!”

He was beside her in a second. “What’s wrong?”

“My sister! I found her unconscious in the shower. She’s in my car. I should have called 9-1-1, but I live close so I—”

He wasn’t listening any longer.

“Kellie!” he shouted before sprinting outside. His gaze zeroed in on the car parked haphazardly in the middle of the street. He hurried to the passenger door and opened it. He knelt on the concrete, his eyes already examining the patient. “Miss? Can you hear me?”

He took her pulse, relieved to find it steady if a little fast. He let his lion to the forefront of his mind, asking him to smell the woman so he could assess her. He leaned over her but couldn’t detect anything. She was breathing on her own. Her skin felt cold, but he was confident she would warm up once she was inside.

His lion switched his tail and retreated, no longer interested in the unmated female. Taking this sign as his green light, Nate brought one arm around the woman’s shoulders, the other slipping beneath her thighs. She didn’t weigh much, he thought as he stood back up. His nurse was at the doors, keeping them open for him.

He nodded at her, ordered her to follow him as he strode past, his attention entirely on what the issue might be. His brain scanning dozens of potential scenarios, he only noticed what the woman wore when he laid her on an examination table. And that was because his nurse took one look at their patient and groaned.

What the hell?
He turned toward her and frowned. “Kellie?”

She didn’t even hear him, too focused on the woman’s…breasts? He followed her gaze and realized the patient had been covered by a towel and nothing else. She was now quite naked, and she had the most perfect tits he’d seen in a long while.

“Wow,” he mouthed then remembered he’d left her upset sister in the waiting room. “Let’s be professional, shall we, Kellie?”

She froze for a second. “Hmm. Yes. Sure. Yes.”

It didn’t take him long to notice the bump on the back of the woman’s head. She’d probably slipped in the shower and was now regaining consciousness.

She blinked and moaned a little, trying to sit up before she fully registered where she was. When her eyes opened, she stiffened. “Who are you?”

“Dr. Franks. You hit your head and might have a concussion. I’d advise you to stop moving until I’ve finished with my examination.” He smiled down at her, but she remained stiff. “Kellie?” he finally said, hoping his nurse would be able to reassure her. And she did, much more happily than he’d ever seen her talk to a patient before.

He stood there, adding pertinent details to the woman’s chart, and he couldn’t help but be aware of his nurse’s lioness. The one who was so aroused it was starting to send out pheromones.

Seriously? She had to do this here? Now?
He was going to have to talk to her. Again.

* * * *

Trust her lioness to notice a patient’s naked body while she was at work.
Argh!
Kellie bit her lower lip and forced her animal deeper into her. Nails raked her from the inside out in retaliation. Breathing through her nose to counteract the pain, she straightened her fingers and hoped they wouldn’t shake too much.

She pasted a bright smile on her face. “How are you feeling? Dr. Franks is nearly finished, and then I’ll get you something to wear.”

The woman smiled back, faintly at first but with more strength as soon as McDreamy turned around to rummage through a drawer. “Thank you. What’s your name?”

“Oh. Kellie.”

“I’m Jane.”

“Nice to meet you, Jane.”

“You, too,” the woman replied, shifting a little, the paper covering the table rustling beneath her. Her breasts jiggled at the movement. The nipples were crinkled, probably from the cold room. They looked so good though, so inviting…

Shut up!
Kellie snarled inwardly at her lioness.
I’m working here!

But she looks so tempting. I want her.

Not now!

“Everything okay?” Dr. Franks reappeared at her side, his gaze heavy on her.

She could see in his eyes he’d noticed something was going on.
Please don’t let him know what’s wrong with me.
He was the Alpha’s son. If there was someone in this Pride who could guess, it’d be him. She knew it, had known ever since she’d started working here. She didn’t want to move towns again!
Damn it!

“Everything’s fine,” she finally answered, the lie rolling off her lips as easily as it always did.

His shoulders tensed, and she knew she’d done the wrong thing.

Again.

Chapter Two

It had been a long and extremely busy day at the practice, but it wasn’t over yet. He’d told Kellie to meet him in his office as soon as she was finished. Reclining in the leather armchair that had come with his new position, Nate stared at the ceiling and thought again about what’d happened that morning. He could still smell her arousal, as unbelievable as that was. Her mating scent had wrapped around him and still hadn’t let go. It’d been so bad he’d had to spend the day with his cock at half-mast inside his scrubs. Not a good look for his first week on the job!

He gritted his teeth at the thought, and that’s how she found him when she stepped inside the room. Without having knocked first. Of course.

“Sit down,” he snapped at her, watching her eyebrows rise at his tone.

“You could say please, you know,” she mumbled but still obeyed.

He frowned then realized he’d used his Alpha voice on her.
Shit, I’m losing it!
“My apologies. Please sit down, Kellie. I want us to discuss what happened with Miss Hollins this morning.”

“Nothing happened,” came the instant response.

He stared at her across his desk. “Don’t lie to me.”

“I’m not…” She pursed her lips before shaking her head.

“Why don’t I tell you what happened then? I was there after all. You saw a naked patient, someone who’d been unconscious might I add, and you started panting.”

“I didn’t!”

He ignored her interruption. “You became aroused. You were throwing out pheromones left and right, Kellie.”

Her eyes widened. “You smelled it?”

He nodded, his gaze locking on hers. “I can still smell it. Your lioness is difficult to ignore.”

“Tell me about it,” she muttered under her breath, before adding, her voice louder this time, “It won’t happen again.”

“Are you gay?”

The question threw her so much she just stared back at him in silence. He winced when he realized he could have been a bit nicer about it, a bit more PC while he was at it.

“I’m not saying it’s a bad thing. I mean, each to their own and all, but if you’re going to react to naked women on my watch, I need to know.”

No, that didn’t sound right either.

“I’m not gay.”

“Oh.”

“I’m bisexual.”

This time, it was his turn to be rendered silent. He’d always thought he was a man of the world; after all, he’d lived in the city for years and had been friends with shitloads of people. But one word from his nurse and he was speechless. “You are?”

“Yup. Is that a problem?”

“Of course not,” he heard himself respond.

“Cool.” She looked down at her lap and started fingering the hem of her top. “Can I ask you something?” she added, her voice so low he barely heard her.

“Sure. What is it?”

Her head jerked up, and he noticed her cheeks were slightly red. Considering her skin was light mocha in color that was quite a feat. He found himself leaning toward her, wondering what she would ask him.
