“Okay. I like your plan better anyway.” At least part of Matt did. “Let’s head back and let the rest of the team know what we found. We can amuse ourselves while they do some work on figuring this mess out.”

“Nice thinking, Ludwig.” Clint winked. “I could use some entertaining myself.”

They didn’t bother covering the hidden room or the safe since they planned to return later that afternoon. Whether or not the rest of the Men in Blue had a clue, they had to try something.

As they emerged from the barn, Clint replaced the beam. Matt stood staring out at the deceptively placid landscape that housed intrigue in spades. A glint off something in the trees caught his eyes, but when he blinked it was gone. A bird probably.

Didn’t hurt to be safe, though.

“Yo, Clint. You see anything over there, by that big clump of fir trees?”

His friend studied the area, then shook his head. “Nothing but birds.”

“Just checking.” With that they took off in sync, jogging to the little cabin holding a big prize. They charged up the stairs. Matt flung the door open harder than he intended, eager to check on Jambrea.

He shouldn’t have worried. They found her sitting cross-legged on the bed, toying with melon rinds and her empty bowl as she talked on the secure phone. Knowing there could only be a few people she spoke to, he yelled, “Honey, we’re home.”

Although a smile curled the corners of her mouth when she faced them, he could see she’d been crying and her amusement didn’t entirely wipe the misery off her face. Frown lines marred her plump lips and creased the space between her arched brows.

“Oh, no. You don’t feel well?” Clint rushed to her side.

“It’s not me.” She put on a brave face they both seemed to see right through. “It’s Lucas.”

Both he and Clint froze. Matt asked, “How is he?”

“They did have to take his leg.” A tiny sob broke free from Jambi’s chest. “He’s in critical condition. The infection had started to spread. It was worse than I thought.”

“I’m still stuck back on the first part.” Clint rubbed his thigh. “
Took
? As in amputated?”

Jambrea nodded. “Right above the knee.”

“Oh, fuck.” Matt plopped onto the bed, clinking the dishes on Jambi’s tray together unintentionally. “That’s gonna kill him.”

“No.” She grew stern, which kind of turned him on. “Keeping it was going to kill him. Now he’ll have a shot at full recovery. Or as close as he can get. Prosthetics are light years ahead of where they used to be. He’ll be able to do nearly everything he could before. He’s got friends. Ellie…”

“He won’t let that girl near him.” Clint put his face in his hand.

“Maybe not at first,” Jambrea conceded. “But eventually. With lots of love and hard work. He’ll get better.”

“I hope you’re right, wild thing.” Matt held his hand out. “Can I talk to one of the guys, please?”

“Sorry, Lacey, I was filling them in. Is Mason around? Matt needs to talk to one of the Men in Blue.” She paused for a few seconds. “I love you too. Everything’s going to be okay, I know. You stay safe too. Later.”

Jambrea handed the phone to Matt. She stared at him, eyes wide, as he relayed the progress they’d made this morning. “Yeah. A puzzle for JRad, I think. Uh huh. We’re going to hunker down. Rest. Think of anything and we’ll call you. If not, we’ll check in again tomorrow morning. Please have something for us, Mason.”

“We’re doing our best. There’s not a lot to go on. Your guy John was nothing if not thorough.” Mason sighed, sounding as weary as Matt felt. “All right, we’d better get off the line. Take good care of each other.”

“We will. I promise.” He looked at Jambrea then Clint as he swore to protect them. “See you later.”

The Men in Blue never said goodbye. They knew how final it could be.

“Later.” Mason disconnected them from their friends and family.

“I have a present for you.” The bottle of pills rattled as Matt pulled it from his pocket and tossed it to Jambrea.

“Aw, man.” She stuck out her bottom lip. “That’s not what I thought you meant.”

“You’re not operating at a hundred percent.” Matt shook his head. “Why don’t we pick a couple of books from that shelf over there and read?”

At least there was no TV in the cabin so they didn’t have to stare at the talking heads debating the public ins and outs of the Rudolph Small case.

“Or better yet, why don’t I grab a book and I’ll read to you both?” Clint offered, already halfway to the sizable stash of classics. “Maybe in a while I’ll make us some lunch. Then we can take a nap. After that, we’ll see how it goes, okay?”

“Sounds good to me.” Jambrea nodded vigorously.

“Who am I to say no?” Matt kicked off his sneakers and crashed to the bed, holding his arms out, open. It didn’t take more than a moment for Jambrea to set the tray on the floor then cuddle up in his arms.

Pride and Prejudice
or
The Complete Works of Edgar Alan Poe
?” He held two books up for her to choose between.

“I hate scary things,” she mumbled. “Mr. Darcy!”

“Oh boy.” Matt prepared himself to be bored to tears. But lying there with Jambrea distracted him from a lot of things. And he found himself enjoying the twisted love story. The sound of Clint’s voice wasn’t bad either. They passed the book between them, each taking a turn reading a chapter before handing off the drama to the next person to continue.

It turned out to be a great way to spend a day.

The story also seemed to hornify their girl. By the time they’d finished dinner and Mr. Darcy was forking over Lydia’s dowry so she could marry Wickham, Jambrea cracked. She was in full-on swoon mode.

“If someone doesn’t kiss me right now, I’m going to throw that book across the room.” Jambrea knelt between them. Two more doses of antibiotics and most of a day of bed rest seemed to have recharged her.

Clint seemed as full of restless energy as Matt was. His own foot shook beneath the covers even as Clint tapped on the book as he read. It wasn’t like them to lounge around for so long, unless there was football on or a new videogame released. Even then they were likely to be shouting, hopping up and down from time to time or tossing popcorn at the TV.

Taking his silence as acceptance, Jambrea lunged up his body, sprawling across his chest as she laid her mouth against his. Like he could stop himself from making out with her then.

They exchanged liquid glides of their lips on each other’s until Clint cut in. Matt used his free time to catch his breath and study how his partner and their lover meshed seamlessly.

When Jambi began to walk her shirt up her body, exposing first her midriff then her breasts—free from a bra—he closed his eyes and tried to think of why this might be a bad idea.

Her arm. Right.

“Are you sure you’re up for this?” Matt double-checked.

“Yeah, it’s a minor infection, which my body was fighting with a low-grade fever. It’s not like I’m losing—” Her face went ashen.

“What?” Clint rushed to her side, as attuned to her as Matt himself was these days.

“I almost said, it’s not like I’m losing a limb.” Tears welled in her pretty eyes. She clapped her hand over her mouth and stiffened up.

“Lucas is going to be okay.” Matt patted her on the back, feeling like a buffoon for not having something smarter to say. She would know better than him if the spin she’d put on his likelihood for a positive outcome was true. After examining his leg, her medical training would have given her a real clear picture. Maybe it wasn’t as good a prognosis as they’d been told. “Isn’t he?”

“Yes. S-Sorry.” She sniffled. “I didn’t mean to scare you. He’s going to come through this. Although he almost waited too long. Bad things were starting to happen to his circulatory system. Damage that couldn’t be undone by this procedure. But, no, he still had time. It’s just that… It’s going to be a long and difficult journey. And I threw it out there like nothing.”

“Jambi, you’re the sweetest person I know.” Clint came to the rescue when Matt fumbled for the right thing to say. “It was only a phrase. You didn’t mean anything bad by it. Let’s start over, okay?”

She nodded.

When Matt didn’t speak, Clint poked him. Hard. “Ouch. Oh, right. Are you sure you’re up for this?”

Jambrea laughed. The sound, as musical as wind chimes to him, was worth the small soreness in his ribs or even his feeling emotionally stunted for a bit.

If he didn’t fuck this up royally, this could be his life.

Two
partners.

People who’d be there to cover his mistakes and pick him up when he needed a hand. Two amazing human beings he could maybe offer something to in return.

And right then he knew what he wanted to do.

Confer.

With them both.

Jambrea first, because it was easier. At least for a little while, until he got used to this new layer in his relationship with Clint. Maybe today could be another step on that road. Finally, he was ready.

Staring into his partner’s eyes, he smiled. “I want to give her all of us. Together.”

“You mean…”

“Yeah.” Matt nodded. “You’ll have to take her ass, though. I would hurt her.”

“Oh yeah, sob story material right there.” Clint laughed. “
Problems My Giant Cock Causes
by Matt Ludwig.”

Jambrea giggled, smacking Clint in the shoulder. “Stop that. You know not everyone loves the way they’re made.”

“No guy is disappointed that he’s got a big dick.” Clint’s chuckle died when he saw Matt didn’t join in.

“It’s caused some issues.” He shrugged. “It’d be nice to be normal.”

“I know exactly how you feel.” Jambrea hugged him.

“You’d better not be talking about yourself.” Matt squinted down at her, inventorying her ideal form. What about her could she not adore? Pert breasts—not too big—a lush frame, the most smackable ass he’d ever had the privilege of touching and gorgeous eyes that he could stare at for days. She was amazing.

“Not when you look at me like that.” She kissed him on the cheek. “You make me feel beautiful. Both of you do. But I haven’t always.”

“Crazy talk.” Clint gaped at her. “But we can remind you later about how gorgeous you are. I plan to do it often, so deal. I want to hear more about this whole tag team proposal of yours, Matt.”

“Well, I didn’t think it was that difficult to grasp the concept.” He found his amusement again. “You see, first I put my cock in Jambrea. We fuck a little and get her relaxed. Then I’ll roll over and you can...”

“Stop talking. Start fucking.” Their wild thing earned her nickname. She whipped her top off and flung it onto the chest at the foot of the bed. Then she shimmied out of her panties. Completely nude, she descended on them, divesting them first of their shirts, then mauling the zippers of their jeans one after the other.

Seeing her get aggressive, after nearly a year filled with passive and shy dealings, had him hard in an instant. He loved that she felt open enough to take what she wanted. He’d do anything to be one of the men to give her whatever she desired.

So far it seemed like she was onboard for his double penetration scheme. Would she prefer the variety he had in mind for the second stage of their loving tonight? He hoped so. Even as nerves raced through his stomach, so did arousal. Fierce, driving attraction and longing had him sprinting right beside her toward the brilliance they could create together.

She shoved his shoulders until he fell backward on the bed. He loved the determined look on her face when she straddled him, rubbing her saturated pussy along his cock. She lubricated his thick shaft with her own arousal.

Without asking, Clint reached between them and spread the slickness up and down Matt’s dick. The clasp of another man’s hand, which could actually hold him more fully than a woman’s, had Matt gasping.

Though nothing could match the searing heat of Jambrea’s pussy when she lifted up enough so that Clint could position Matt’s cock at the entrance of her body. She sank onto him, replacing the pressure of Clint’s sure strokes with the undulation of her moist tissue, which sheathed him completely.

It still shocked him that she could take every bit of what he had to give.

Thank God she wasn’t some dainty girl.

Before long, she was riding him like a cowgirl at the rodeo. He felt like the one who needed to hold on when the exquisite clasp of her pussy drew him too soon toward the temptation of an impressive climax.

“Clint,” he called out to his friend, who watched with unblinking eyes. “Get in here. I’m not going to last at this rate.”

And he had so much more he needed to do before he capitulated to the draw of ecstasy.

“Sorry about this, wild thing, but we don’t carry real lube with us in our pockets or anything.” He held up a jar of petroleum jelly they’d spotted in the bathroom earlier.

“Too bad my boxes are back in the city.” She squirmed on Matt, grinding them together in a delectable figure eight that had him ready to wail for relief.

Clint pressed her forward and Matt caught her, drawing her fully onto his chest. Her breasts mashed against his pecs, delighting him with the hard nipples centered in mounds of softness.
