“Fuck,” I blurt out, as she takes me deep into her mouth. If she doesn’t gag, it’ll be a miracle.
She works me slowly with her mouth, her hand gliding up and down my shaft.
She moves faster.
Sucks harder.
When I’m that close to the edge, she makes a little growl of pleasure at the back of her throat and I’m a goner. My legs stiffen, and I come hard at the back of her throat.
Holy-fucking-hell.
Perfection.
Eevie gradually slows down, pumping my shaft until she’s taken every last drop.
Eevie rises to her knees and sit back on her feet. Wiping her mouth with the back of her hand, she grins victoriously.
“My fiancée is gonna kill me. I’ve fallen in love with a nurse.” I growl as I lean up and tug at the top button of the dress. It pops open, giving me a better look at those tits. I tug each cup down, her hard nipples now available for my viewing pleasure.
“You can probably stop with the nurse business, now,” she whispers. Eevie puts a hand either side of my ribs and props herself up on all fours. She kisses me softly on the lips.
“Nurse,” I murmur, low in my throat. Reaching up, I loosen her hair piled in a bun, and it falls in waves, cascading around her glowing face. “Get up here,” I order, crooking my finger.
“What do you mean?” She frowns like she has no idea.
“You think after a service like that I’m not gonna express my thanks? I’m all about the manners, you know.”
“No, I just … this was about you. And I worry about your kidney, you know, when I’m on top. Isn’t it too soon?”
Aw. She’s worried about me. But I’m a tough nut.
I toss my pillow aside, and pull her arm as I lay my head down.
She crawls forward, positioning her knees either side of my ribs.
“Higher,” I say.
“Higher?” she questions, her voice squeaking.
I nod.
Her mouth forms an
O
, and she carefully moves her knees either side of my shoulders, her thighs trembling.
I slip my fingers between her legs, the small amount of fabric to those panties drenched. “You attached to these panties?” I ask, pressing my thumb firmly over her clit.
Eevie bucks and takes in a sharp breath as I tease her. “Nope,” she chokes out.
The fabric practically disintegrates in my hand when I tug at them.
“You want me to take the dress off?” she asks.
“Nope,” I reply, my tone bored. I want it on. Who knew dress-ups could be this fun?
I twist beneath her, pushing her knees further out so the heat of her pussy is right at my lips. I flick my tongue over her swollen clit and taste her, like I’ve been dying to.
“You might wanna hold on to the bedhead, nurse. I’m ‘bout to rock your world.”
“Oh,” she replies, gripping the railing tight.
Eevie’s groans grow wilder and louder as I eat her and savour her like she’s my last damn meal. Her legs shake. Her body quivers. I give her exactly what she needs.
Fuck, I love this woman.

A month later
Eevie’s a little rounder on her hips, but she hasn’t been running nearly as much as she was. I know she felt guilty leaving me at home. For the last couple of months she’s cooked up a storm, never letting me go hungry. And, after spending all day at home by myself, I know it’s selfish but I’m so starved for her company by the time she comes through the door, I want every minute with her, so I can’t say I’ve tried to convince her to get back into a routine.
Now I’m fully recovered, and she can’t keep her hands off me. She’s turned into a sex-crazed animal. Sure, we had to make some adjustments at first, but now we’re back on track. I turned her down a few times—as much as it pained me—but I’ll never say no again. I’d have to be a fucking mad man. Getting back into the exercise is gonna suck, but I’ve missed the rush, that spike of adrenaline that takes me from an ordinary guy to superman. Sometimes, I even believe I can fly.
But there’s something else on my mind. Something I’ve been ticking over for weeks. It’s time to get my proposal sorted. I want it to be everything Eevie deserves. It takes a lot to get me nervous, but I want so badly for it to be special. It’s the only time I’m ever going to do this—well, apart from that time in hospital—and my stomach seems to be in a constant tangle of knots. Time to bite the bullet and get shit sorted.
“What kinda ring do you want, baby?”
“What, sorry?” Eevie says, as if she doesn’t know what I mean. Girls think about this shit constantly, don’t they?
I roll my eyes at her. “Engagement ring, Eevie. Tell me what you want.”
Her cheeks instantly flush pink, and she shrugs her shoulders. “I don’t know. I haven’t really thought about it. I’ve had a sexy patient demanding most of my attention.”
Is she serious? Surely she’s thought about it.
“Come on, tell me. Surely you’ve got some idea.”
“Just don’t go overboard. There are more important things to spend money on.”
“Well, think about it now. I wanna get you what you want. You’ll be wearing it forever.”
A sneaky smile crawls over her soft lips. “I want you to pick it.”
Huh?
What girl doesn’t want to choose her own engagement ring? Demand two carats or more? Not Eevie. Not the woman I’m gonna marry and devote the rest of my life to. It just reinforces all the more why I want her. She doesn’t care about material things.
I shake my head. “Okay, I’ll pick something, then.”
And it’ll be a fucking beauty
.
Eevie throws her arms around me, kissing me hard on the lips.
She sighs, sweeping her hands through my hair. “I love you, Aidan Stone.”
“I love you, Genevieve Lawson.”
Soon to be Stone
. “I’ve just gotta duck out and do a few things. Do you want me to pick up some steak or something to cook for dinner?”
“Yeah, that’d be great. I might take Sergeant for a walk. He’s starting to dig holes in the garden.”
“Okay, I’ll see ya soon.”
As soon as I get in the car, I pull out my phone and dial.
“Hey, Mum. You busy?”
“No darling, what are you up to?”
“I need your help with somethin’.”
“Sure, what can I do?”
Always so eager to help
.
“I’ll pick you up in ten. We need to go shopping.”
“Okay. See you soon, darling.”

Mum can barely contain her smile as we walk into the jewellers. Her arm hooked through mine, she grips me tight, but doesn’t say a word.
“Can I help you find something, Sir?” the middle-aged woman dressed in black says politely. She straightens her back and places her hands on the edge of the counter.
“I need a ring.”
“What kind of a ring?” she asks, raising an eyebrow.
My heart kicks up a gear. “The kind that says
forever
.”
The woman’s smile widens and she places her hand over her heart.
“Engagement rings are this way, dear.”
We follow her over to a glassed cabinet towards the back of the store, and I start scanning the rows of rings.
Some are downright hideous. Some you wouldn’t even pick to be an engagement ring: they’re too chunky or too brash, and I certainly don’t want it to look cheap.
But it doesn’t take long to find the one I’m looking for: classic, understated, yet stunningly beautiful.
Just like my girl.
“I’ll take that one,” I blurt out.
“Good choice,” she says as she takes it out from beneath the glass. She starts rattling off something about the colour and clarity. I lift it up towards the light and take a good look at it. It’s seems like it’s the right size. Yup. It’s perfect.
“I’ll take it,” I confirm.
“Are you sure you don’t want to take a look at any others? You barely just walked in the door.”
Doesn’t this woman know how men shop? Get in, get what you need, get out.
I pull my wallet from my back pocket, and hand over my credit card.
“Nope. I found what I was lookin’ for.”
Now, time to sort out this proposal. Tomorrow, is the day.
CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE
* EEVIE *
I graze on a few crackers on the way to Aidan’s grandparent’s farm. I don’t think I could handle waiting another hour or so to eat. When I’ve done that lately, it hasn’t done me any favours. At least Aidan is preoccupied, and hasn’t cottoned on to what I really had to do this morning. He was coming out here earlier to put up a few shelves in his Pop’s garage, and I told him I had an assignment to finish and would come out later.
I smile to myself as I think of how Aidan’s Nan, Beatrice, doted on his grandpa the last time we came out. To see a love that’s lasted more than fifty years made me see how Aidan is the man he is today. He grew up in a house full of love, even without a father.
As I slow down to turn into the driveway, the rusty metal gate is closed with a sign made out of a cardboard box tied to it.
Turn up the next driveway on the left
Are they patching up the potholes in the gravel driveway? Are the sheep loose in the front paddock again? How strange.
I drive another couple of hundred metres, and turn left into an open gate. Aidan’s old motorbike is parked on its stand just inside the gate, with a white piece of paper sticky taped to it. I look all around, but there’s no one in sight.
I park the car and get out, and walk to the bike. I unfold the piece of paper.
Eevie, it’s too rough for your car.
Ride straight over the hill and down to the creek.
-Aidan x
I take the helmet and put it on. I’m glad I’m wearing jeans and knee-high leather boots. I didn’t give it a thought before I left the house. I would look ridiculous right now trying to straddle this bike in a dress.
I swing my leg over the bike. The bike feels warm, so it shouldn’t be too hard to start. God it’s been a while. I hope I don’t make a fool of myself.
The bike starts first kick, and I give it a couple of revs. Clicking it into gear, I start slowly at first to get used to the bike. It’s got a bit more grunt than the last one I rode. I ride over the hill and down to the creek, just as the note said.
In jeans, and a checked shirt, Aidan stands under a giant willow tree beside the creek. His smile grows wide as I approach.

* AIDAN *
Eevie said she had an assignment or something to do this morning, but I’m glad she was busy because I didn’t want her to know what was coming. She loves surprises, and this one will be one for us both to remember.
I spent all morning trying to get the grass right. It took about four hours, because I had to keep running back up the hill to make sure I got it looking perfect.
And here she is, having just pulled up on my motorbike like she’s a seasoned pro. I walk over and hold the bike while she kicks out the stand. She takes off the helmet, and grins as she runs her hands through her long, tangled hair. But she still looks as beautiful as ever, her face gleaming in the sunlight.
“That was fun,” she says and leans in and presses her lips to mine. I breathe in deep to calm my racing heart, which picked up pace the moment I heard the bike. “What are you doing out here?” Her eyes scan over me. She really has no clue.
I take her hand, and it almost slips out of my sweaty palm. “Come here,” I say, leading her underneath the swaying branches of the willow tree; a tree which was always special to me as a child, a place I came for solitude. This tree is about to take on a whole new meaning.
I take both her hands in mine, the trickle of the water close by, settling me. “Eevie. I asked you to come here because I wanna share with you a place that’s special to me. When I was a kid, this tree was a place I came to when I was lost. When I was scared or confused, this is where I came. I always felt a certain comfort being here.”
I swallow the lump in my throat that threatens to choke me. I can’t believe talking about this shit is so hard.
Eevie looks up into the vast branches, and squeezes my hands when her eyes come back to my face. “It’s beautiful. I can see why you came here.” She gives me a knowing smile, as she knows all the reasons I would have been at this place. She knows more about me than anyone.
“But I don’t need this place anymore.
You
are my place, Eevie. You are my home, and my heart will forever be with you.”
Her glistening eyes follow me as I slowly get down on one knee before her. I breathe out loudly through my nose, and look up at her. A silent sob escapes her mouth, and I know I have to hurry before she turns to water.
“Eevie. I want you next to me, with me … always.” I dig into my shirt pocket, and take out the platinum solitaire diamond ring. I hold it out in front of her, and she smiles through her tears, covering her mouth with one hand.
“This time, baby girl, I’m prepared.” I wink at her, and she gasps. “Will you marry me?”
Eevie sinks onto her knees in front of me and nods. “Yes,” she whispers, wiping the tears from her eyes. I slide the ring onto her finger, and we both stare at it as if it was always destined to be there. The diamond shines brilliantly in the light, almost as bright as the smile on her face.
I pull her into my arms, and kiss her. Our kiss is passionate and unrestrained just like my love for her. I reluctantly break my lips away from hers, needing to fill my lungs again with air.
Eevie chuckles.
“What?” I ask.
“I was just wondering what would’ve happened if I couldn’t start the bike.”
“The woman I wanna marry has guts. She can do anything she sets her mind to, and I know you can ride, so it wasn’t an issue.”
“The ring, it’s just … beautiful, thank you.”
