Chapter One

"I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE that Adair is
working with the dark side!" Augusta exclaimed.

"Actually, I can believe it," Lola
said. "I've never trusted her."

"Oh I know that she's always had a
thing for Marcus and that you disliked her for that, Lola, but this
is just going beyond anything I thought she was capable of. I
assume that you've taken the appropriate measures?"

"Yes, Augusta," Marcus replied. "We've
surrounded the entire castle with a very strong protection spell as
well as having filled the moat with water. Obviously, magic can get
someone across the moat but it will take something a lot stronger
to break through."

"That's reassuring to hear, my King,"
Augusta said.

"Also, Marcus and I have decided that
it will be best to have all of you stay here in the castle for now.
There's plenty of room and we need all of our strongest power based
in one area. Besides, you'll all be safer here than at your homes,"
Lola explained.

"Whatever you feel is best," Augusta
said as she looked around the table at the rest of The Council.
They all nodded in agreement.

Lola was relieved that they hadn't had
to go through any sort of convincing, because she was aware that
the members of The Council had their own lives to lead. The fact
that they had not objected at all told her that they realized just
how serious the situation was. She and Marcus had hired extra help
from the village to help Amie and Hudson take care of the castle.
Hence, each Council member had his or her own room made up and
ready.

The Council, on the other hand, had
organized magical covens that helped strengthen protection spells
in every village and home where the dark force might be attacking.
Additionally, it had been vigilantly in gathering intelligence and
conducting patrols. They even created spells to protect the
non-magical humans.

There had been fewer incidents
to none at all since they had established the King and Queen on
their "throne". Actually, the throne room was not used much except
for special
traditional
occasions. The Soul Mates were not keen with extravagant
posturing and preferred the huge, modern conference hall for
meetings.

How glad Lola and Marcus were to have
them. Their very presence made everyone feel brave. It did not feel
hopeless anymore. If only the couple knew what power they
represented to the people!

"We'll need to be extra careful when it
comes to admitting strangers to the castle," Lola said, not seeing
the look of total gratitude that was on Augusta's face. "It seems
that Adair is very good at disguising herself. Marcus and I feel
that, unless we personally know the individual, no one will be
admitted to the castle until this situation is
resolved."

Reaching over to take his wife's hand,
Marcus surveyed the people sitting before them. These were the
people that had run the magical world for a very long time, and
they had done an excellent job of it.

Now, though, he could tell that they
were worried about what they were all facing.

That told him just how serious it
was.

"Have you had any more luck with
locating information about my biological parents?" Marcus
asked.

He had ordered a more extensive search
for further background information. Now that he was King, he knew
there was more that needed to be known about the first part of his
present lifetime-to know everything, if possible.

"Everything we have discovered is in
this report," Augusta said as she passed a manila envelope across
the table to Marcus.

"Thank you, Augusta," Marcus said as he
picked up the envelope. "I appreciate the trouble you've gone
through to get this for me."

"Oh, it wasn't that much trouble, my
King," August replied, waving her hand dismissively. "I'm not sure
how much it will help you, though."

"I understand," said Marcus. "All the
same, I do appreciate what you've done."

They spoke and strategized for another
two hours before breaking for lunch.

So far, they had not discovered
anything that was going to help them understand what was
threatening the magical world. Time was short, and it would not
help matters if they were so tired that they could not
focus.

Chapter Two

MARCUS AND LOLA HAD LUNCH brought to
them in the conference hall. They studied the information that The
Council had gathered about his biological parents. While they
munched on shrimp poor boy sandwiches, Marcus opened the envelope
and pulled out the sheets of paper contained within. He scanned the
first one and then handed it to Lola.

"Ok," she said as she read it. "It says
that your mother was seventeen when she gave birth to you and that
her name is Mariana Moreau. You were delivered by a midwife who
apparently left you at the small church in the woods. They can't
find your mother now, so they assume that she went off the grid
sometime right after you were born. I'm sorry, baby, but it looks
like she didn't want to be found and she didn't want to be a
mother. I know one thing---if we decide to have a baby, I would
never be able to leave it."

"I know, my love," Marcus replied in a
husky voice, kissing her temple. "You'll be a wonderful mother when
the time comes."

They exchanged smiles and then went
back to reading the file.

After a while, it was evident there was
not any more to be gleaned from the information because his
father's identity was not there. A seemingly older photo of Mariana
was included when she was pregnant with Marcus. She was very
beautiful with long dark hair and large green eyes.

"Mariana is so pretty," Lola said. "I
don't think you take after her, though. Not with your auburn hair
and blue eyes, at least. You must take after your father. It's too
bad that they couldn't locate him or at least find out his
identity."

She paused, paling at what she was
reading.

"Marcus, there's something here that
suggests Mariana may have been raped. If she was, that would
explain everything. It would make sense that she didn't keep you
and decided to give you away."

"Well, if that's true, my father sure
was a standup guy, huh?" Marcus said sarcastically.

Lola put her arms around Marcus to
comfort him. She knew that there were no words that she could say
at that moment that would make any difference. If it turned out
that Marcus actually was a product of rape, they would get through
it. His life had not turned out so badly after all.

Something else occurred to
Lola.

"MARCUS, if your powers didn't come
from your mother, then it had to be your father who is the
warlock."

"Yeah, you're right, and just how scary
is that? A rapist with magical powers running loose in the world
can't be a good thing."

"Well, we shouldn't jump to conclusions
just yet. Let's see what the rest of the information here
says."

It turned out that there was not a lot
left to be digested.

There was nothing about Mariana's
family-it was as if she had suddenly appeared from a cabbage
patch.

They talked about the information they
did have to see what made sense. All they could do was attempt to
research more information about Mariana.

"By the way, when is Sable arriving?"
Marcus asked Lola.

"Oh, she'll be swooping in any time
now, I imagine," Lola laughed. "You know Mother. She likes to do
the unexpected."

"Yes, she does," Marcus agreed. "Do you
think we've got enough time to do a little swooping of our
own?"

"I've always got time to swoop with
you," Lola whispered as she went into his arms and started to
nibble on his neck.

"Hmmm, now that's what I like to hear."
He stood up and lifted her butt towards the edge of the
table.

Lola giggled. "Here?"

"Yes," Marcus replied in a husky
whisper after pushing the piles of folders away and putting a spell
on the doors so they wouldn't be disturbed. "There'll be too much
people on the way to our bedroom and I don't think I can
wait."

She held his head when he swooped down
to kiss her exposed breasts after expertly unclasping, then
loosening her bra. She threw her head back and moaned. Her back
arched when he slid one of her turgid nipples inside his warm
mouth, suckling and flicking it with the tip of his tongue. His
hands continued working to get her naked, and she smiled when he
gently pushed her backwards onto the table.

She felt the warmth in the
air.

It's winter. He's been
practicing his magic. He just turned the air warm so we won't
freeze.

Her body arched again when his hand
kneaded and massaged her soft orbs into standing erect. As he
massaged, his lips started making a wet trail down her navel
towards the center of her thighs. His nibbling and nipping so
aroused her that when his mouth finally reached her clit, she knew
she was wet. She slowly arched when she felt his hot breath fanning
her exposed center, then bucked when she felt his tongue's first
assault. She groaned aloud upon feeling two of his fingers slowly
entering her slick pleasure slit, finding her pleasure button
inside as his lips gently suckled her soft petal lips outside. The
combination of it all made her dizzy and panting with
pleasure.

Oh, how quickly Marcus knew how to push
her buttons, and all at the same time!

Chapter Three

WHEN SHE FIRST CAME, it was gloriously
explosive and sweet. It was only as she was landing back on Earth
when she noticed that he was still dressed. She could see his
flushed face and knew how aroused her husband was.

With a flick of her finger and a saucy
grin on her mouth, his clothes vanished.

He thankfully grinned at her after a
surprised gasp. It never entered his mind that he could be stripped
that way. "How did you know I couldn't wait any longer?" he asked
as the head of his cock poked at the opening of her pleasure
slit.

"I know you," she replied, then held
his gaze as his thickness slowly speared her wetness.

"Ohhh, Marcus!" she moaned when he was
fully inside her at last.
