“You’re teasing.”

“No. I’m actually serious. It’s going to kill me but I’m going to do it. Because I can’t live without you, Shar.”

“I can’t live without you.”

His expression went completely serious. “You mean that?”

“With all my heart.”

“Wow, that went completely too easy.” And with that he bent his head and kissed her. Shar wilted in his arms as his warm breath mingled with hers.

When he finally broke the kiss, Shar wasn’t sure her world would ever stop spinning. He took her hand, led her over to the couch and pulled her down into his arms.

“I honestly didn’t expect you to welcome me back so easily. I hoped but I wasn’t sure.”

She cupped his face. “I came after you that day. I went to the airport, but you’d already gone. And then you never called.”

“I wanted to. I picked the phone up a thousand times. But I didn’t let myself make the call. I wanted to give you some time. And I did have unfinished business that had to be taken care of with the company and…” he paused. “Shar, I found out I have a brother.”

Shar gasped. “You do? Where’s he been?”

“I don’t know. It’s a long story and I’ll tell you. But his mom took him and they disappeared. My dad’s detective has just found information that makes him think he might be back in this area. I’m going to find him. It just might take some time.”

“Does he know you’re his brother?”

“We don’t think he does. But I need to find him. For one, I want to know him. He’s my brother. And also, he’s now half owner of everything my dad had. He needs to know that.”

Shar hugged Gage. “I love you, Gage. And I’ll do everything I can to help you find him.”

He kissed her again. “I knew you would. But that will come in time. Right now, I want to start that courting.”

Shar smiled. “That sounds like a perfect idea.”

And then he kissed her again. This time with such gentleness and emotion that Shar could feel his love in every beat of his heart…as her heart and his heart beat together as one.

Just like they were meant to beat.
