“Want to tell me now?” She did not move, even to
shake her head, the feelings had begun to subside, she could handle
it. “Then let’s continue.”

He moved between her thighs, pushing them wider, the
head of his cock pressed against her outer lips, he was going to
penetrate her again. Pushing harder he entered her, sliding in
slowly, her sex gripping him so she felt every movement as he slid
against her inner walls.

Stretching her tight sex he filled her completely,
resting there for a moment, and then he pulled back almost
completely, leaving her empty. The head of his cock was all that
was inside her, again he stopped, her sex adjusting to being empty,
and feeling the need to be filled.

With great self control he slid back into her,
filling her to the hilt. In a steady rhythm he repeated this,
slowly increasing the pace. His mouth kissed her body, little
trails all over her heated skin. Her orgasm grew from the dying
embers of before, quicker and stronger, the peak was so close, this
time would be even harder than the last, and she would not tell him
what he wanted to know.

And then he stopped.

Staying perfectly still he lay buried deep inside
her. She was so close, tensing her inner walls against his thick
cock she tried to tip herself over the edge, but it was no good.
Frustration filled her, familiar tears welled in her eyes, he was
controlling her like a puppet, and she knew he would break her.

“If you tell me I will let you come.”

“No,” she said through gritted teeth. There was no
way she would give in so easily.

He rested until the tension in her body subsided, and
then he repeated his wonderful torture. This time his mouth found
her breasts and leisurely sucked and licked them, his tongue
rolling over them until they were sore and swollen. Everything he
did heightened her senses, and made her climax more needed, and
more intense.

Again he stopped when she was teetering on the edge.
She wanted to give in this time, knowing the only one she was
hurting was herself, he could do this over and over, his self
control absolute. She hated him, hated the way he made her want
him, and the way she needed him to make her come.

After the fifth time he repeated it she was crying
real tears of anger and frustration. She did something she had
never done before in her life, she begged. “Please, Adam, please
make me come.”

“Tell me what the money was for; tell me why you sold
your virginity?”

“I don’t want to, please.”

“Tell me,” he said kissing her lips gently, running
his tongue over them softly, and making her need him more.

A great sob escaped her. “I hate you.”

He sighed, “I know. But I have to know if you’re in
trouble, if that was what the money for. Or was your innocence of
so little value that you are going to use it to buy shoes.”

His words cut deep into her, that a man could think
so little of her. Lifting her head and looking at him, her anger
filling every fibre in her body. “Shoes! Is that what you think?
OK, you want to know, it’s for my sister, she and her husband
desperately want a child, and they can’t afford fertility
treatment, so I sold the only thing I had that was worth anything.
It’s not as though I had guys falling over themselves to be my
boyfriend.”

She might as well have punched him, the colour
drained from his face, and his grip on her relaxed. He began to
move inside her, harder thrusts; bringing her back towards the
place she so needed to go. Tenderly he kissed her breasts, while
tears rolled down her cheeks.

Despite her anger she needed him to finish what he
had started. His movements became more focused and the release he
had promised hit her. She cried out, her sex contracting hard
around him, gripping him so tight he struggled to keep his
tempo.

She arched her back, offering herself to him,
disgusted with herself for the need only he could fulfil. Wave
after wave of tension left her, she felt him come inside her,
making her orgasm even more intense, if that was possible. Her body
drew his seed deep inside of itself, and she hated the thought that
she might already have conceived his child, that she might truly be
tied to him for ever.

Chapter Four

He moved off her, she instantly turned over and
curled into a tight ball sobbing.

“Hey, I’m sorry,” he said, stroking her arm and
kissing her shoulder. “I guess I misjudged you.”

She didn’t respond, too wrapped up in her own anger
and shame. When she had decided to do this to help her sister it
had seemed simple, two days of her life for the chance of a brand
new baby for her sister to love and enjoy.

All her life she had wanted children, and it had been
so hard to watch the disappointment and descent into depression
that had followed every unmissed period.

“Will you at least let me explain?” He continued to
stroke her arm, but in no way did he try to force her to turn
around. “When I saw you in that club, I couldn’t believe I had
found my mate, there of all places. All I could think was how could
the woman I’m going to spend the rest of my life with, be here in a
place like this, selling herself. My pride got the better of me; I
never gave a thought to the fact that you might be doing it for
such a...noble reason.”

Her sobbing subsided a little as she listened to his
words; he seemed so sincere, so different from the man who had
forced her to talk.

He lay down behind her and wrapped his arms around
her, pulling her close. Kissing lightly along her spine, he lay
waiting for her to stop crying. The warmth of his body, the sound
of his voice soothed her, she could understand the opinion he had
formed of her, it was natural considering the circumstances.

She still couldn’t understand why he talked about her
being his mate, and the contract definitely said two days, not
forever. He obviously had other ideas, but the way he had treated
her made her question her own feelings towards him, no matter how
strong.

“Please say something.”

She couldn’t bear the pain in his voice, even though
she hated the effect he had on her. What the hell was it about him
that she found so irresistible no matter what he did to her?
Turning in his arms she faced him, her tear stained face turned to
his.

“Why I sold myself is my business, you had no right
to make me tell you.”

He stroked her hair with his hand, pushing it back
from her face before kissing her cheek where her tears had dried.
“I’m sorry, I needed to know you weren't in some kind of trouble,
if you were I would have to get you out of it.”

“I don’t need you to fight my battles.” Her voice
still shaky from crying.

“It’s in my nature; I have to look after you, to
honour you.”

“You know you sound crazy, right?”

“It’s true though, my duty is to look after my mate
once I’ve found her, and as I said, part of it was wounded pride. I
had to phone my brother and ask him for the money, I didn’t have
that kind of cash available to access at such short notice.”

“You asked your brother for the money?” she sat up,
mortified. “Oh, what will he think of me?”

Adam pulled her back to nestle next to him. “Don’t
worry, I didn’t actually tell him what it was for.”

“Still, I’m sorry, I’ll give the money back to you,
and then you can repay him.”

“No, no you won’t, you did what you did for a reason,
give the money to your sister.”

“I can’t, not now. This whole thing was crazy from
the beginning; I can’t see that we have any kind of a future when
I’ll always feel like a whore for selling myself to you.”

“Then don’t look at it like that, call it a finders
fee.” She looked at Adam as though he was mad, but he carried on.
“You know, if you hadn't done it then we might never have met, and
I would never have found my mate.”

“OK, what's with this mate business? Because I’m not
getting it.”

“You can feel it too, can’t you? No matter how angry
you were with me there was no way you could have left. Right?”

She turned to look at him, seeing him clearly for the
first time, his anger and resentment had gone. Now he was more
relaxed it made her breath catch in her throat at just how good
looking he was. In her experience with men so far, she knew beyond
a shadow of a doubt that under normal circumstances he would never
have fallen for a fuller figure girl like her.

Yet here he lay, telling her they were destined to be
together, and there was not a thing they could do to escape that.
Part of her wanted to get out of this bed and prove him wrong, but
that was the stubborn side of her, and she could control that. What
scared her more was the other side of her, the side that knew he
was right and also knew she would never leave him, no matter what
he did to her. That side was new, and it scared her.

“I feel it, but I don’t know why, and I don’t like
it. You have this control over me, and that's not good, I have been
brought up to be any man’s equal, and I don’t want to give that
up.”

“You won’t, I promise, Let me take you out of here,
show you who I really am. Perhaps that will make things easier for
you to accept.”

He took her home, wrapped in one of his shirts and a
long coat to cover her modesty, her clothes from the night before
ruined, for which he also apologised. She showered and dressed,
half expecting him to be gone and for the whole night to have been
one weird dream. Yet when she came out of her bedroom, dressed in a
summer dress and sandals, he was still there, eyeing her body
appreciatively.

“Come on, we'd better go, I know what that look means
and I haven't got so many clothes that you can rip them to shreds
whenever you want,” she said although the desire to make love to
him again was strong.

He smiled a wicked charismatic smile, then moved to
the door and held it open for her. As they walked down to his car
she started to feel normal, like they were two people on a date.
Sliding into the car reminded her of the night before, of him
taking her virginity. The feeling of normality started to slip, but
soon it would be gone for ever.

***

He drove for about an hour, there was some food which
he had prepared while she had showered, and she sat nibbling on it
while he drove. She was starving, not having eaten since yesterday
lunchtime. They made small talk, he told her about his job, and she
told him about her life, it seemed strained, neither of them at
ease in the other's company yet.

They drove off the road and headed into a forest, he
seemed to know exactly where they were going. The trees became
denser and the track more uneven, at last he stopped and got out of
the car. Grabbing her hand he eagerly pulled her out of the car and
picked the bag containing the food up too. Then he led her down a
path, deeper into the forest.

After about fifteen minutes of walking they left the
track and he took her to a glade filled with sunshine. Placing the
blanket he had taken from the car on the floor, he sat her down.
Adam stayed standing.

“So, this is a bit strange, I’ve never shared this
with anyone outside of my family.” He sounded nervous, all
arrogance gone from his voice. “Please, don’t run, or be scared, I
won’t hurt you, I promise, but keep an open mind, and remember that
I love you.”

She sat in shock. He loved her, after such a short
time, and he had told her with no awkwardness, as though it were
the most natural thing in the world to say those words. So caught
up in her thoughts she didn’t pay much attention to him as he
backed away from her.

“Ready, Cindy?” he said.

“Cindy? Oh, me, right. Listen, there's something I
have to tell you too.”

“In a moment, please let me show you first.” In a
blur he removed his clothes, she wondered what he was doing, and
then he looked different.

Her eyes seemed to lose focus, she rubbed them to
clear her vision, but nothing worked. His outline seemed to form
again, but he was kneeling down on all fours. No, that wasn’t it,
his shape had changed, instead of a man he was a wolf, a huge dark
brown wolf.

She sat still with her mouth open, unable to process
what had happened. The huge creature took a step towards her, and
she instinctively began to shove herself backwards along the
ground. Her feet got a grip on the forest floor and she stood up,
ready to run, but she had backed herself into a tree and now she
was cornered by the beast.

A scream stuck in her throat, but it would have done
her no good anyway, they were too far away from other people. The
beast would kill her, and nobody would know, they probably wouldn’t
even find her body this deep in the woods.

Standing before her he looked up at her, and then he
stepped closer and rubbed his great head on her leg. Tentatively
she placed her hand on him, feeling that familiar connection she
had with Adam. This was his secret; he was a wolf, a shifter. She
had to lean back onto the tree trunk and take a deep breath. It was
crazy, unreal, but the evidence was here at her fingertips, the
soft warm fur of a wolf.

He wined and cocked his head at her, she looked down
at him and smiled, the auction and everything that had happened
since seemed to become so insignificant now. This was bigger than
anything else, more important and more real, he meant what he said
about mates for life.

He went out of focus again and changed before her
eyes until he was in human form.

“Are you OK?” he asked.

“I think so, I mean, that really happened,
right?”

“Yes, that is part of who I am. That is the reason I
knew instantly you were my mate, it’s an instinct we all have.”

“You mean there are others like you.”

“It’s a family thing.”
