She does as I ask, and I get to my knees a
few inches from the window, placing her if front of me and grasping
her hips. “One of the main truths in physics is that what goes
up…must come down,” I tell her and I pull her down hard onto my
length, and seat myself fully.

“Kendrick,” she screams.

“Up and down,” I remind her as I place her
hands on the window. “Up and down.”

She braces herself, and starts moving on me,
slowly at first, and then in a rhythm that’s making flashes of
light go off in my brain. Not happening—there’s no way I’m coming
first.

“We’ve covered gravity, but tell me what
force I’m using now,” I say as I thrust into her, pushing her
closer to the glass.

“Applied,” she breathes out. “Fucking
applied force.”

“Why yes, I am fucking you with applied
force. Good job.”

I twist her t-shirt in my hand, moving up it
so the bottoms of her breasts are showing, and then I pull hard.
“Now?”

“Tension. Oh God, tension.”

“You know what my favorite force is?” I ask
as I slow down a little and hold her so she can’t move on me.

“Please, Kendrick.”

“Almost there. Just one more.”

“Wh-what?”

“Friction,” I tell her, rolling one nipple
through her shirt while I rub my pelvis against her and circle her
clit with my other hand. “I love friction.”

Her hands slip on the glass as she comes
hard, clamping her pussy around my cock and mumbling about loving
friction, too. It’s always beautiful to see her fall apart, but who
knew mixing science and sex could be so fun? I come right after
her, bringing us both to lie on top of the throw. As I catch my
breath, all I can think about is how I can’t wait for her next
anatomy lesson.

Chapter 7

Matisse

“Matisse, can you stay after a minute,
please.” Audrey asks me.

I nod, as all my friends give me sympathetic
looks. Again. Seriously? I thought I understood this test. I wait
until everyone leaves to go to the front of the room.

“I thought I knew this stuff.”

“You did. You got 100%.”

Whoa! “I did?”

“You did, and I’m sorry if I scared you when
I asked you to stay after. I was just so happy for you. Physics
must be your thing.”

If by “thing” she means the stuff my hot
boyfriend teaches me while we’re fucking, then yeah, it definitely
is. Not that I’m going to tell her that. “I guess. I’m just glad
I’m doing okay.”

“You’re doing more than okay. You’ll be
passing before you know it.”

“Your class, maybe. I still have to pass the
bone test in anatomy before I can pass Stella’s class.”

“All I can tell you there is to study your
ass off. We didn’t have to study anatomy when we did clothes and
makeup, but Stella made us all do it when she took over that
program. She’s right—knowing all about a body is important, and not
just for fashion. We know the obvious places to strike and shoot,
but knowing what exact muscle or bone we’ve been injured in has
saved more than one of us.”

“I know it’s important, but it’s seriously
hard.”

“Did you think the Society was going to be
easy?” she asks, quirking a brow.

“No,” I admit, “but it’s so much more than I
expected. All of you, and everything I need to learn. It’s got to
be harder than being a government spy.”

“Oh, it is. No one goes through training as
varied and extensive as we do, which is why most governments hire
us to help them.”

“I’m proud to be a part of all of this. I
can’t wait to start helping people.”

“That’s what we love to hear from all of
you.”

“I should go eat something before my shift
at the tattoo shop, but thanks for telling me about my grade.”

“You’re welcome. Have a good day, and keep
up the good work.”

“I will,” I promise, smiling as I walk
out.

I’m still smiling when I walk into the
cafeteria and grab my corn dog nuggets and mac and cheese. Yes, I’m
a grown-up, but I still eat like a kid, because kid food is
awesome.

“You’re smiling, so Audrey must’ve given you
good news,” Nev tells me.

“She did. I got a perfect score on the
physics test.”

“Whoa, someone’s trying to out-science me
over here,” Kalila says to me with a laugh.

“Not a chance. I can only geek so far,
babe.”

“I’m with you on that one,” Waverly says,
and I look up to where she’s standing next to me.

“That’s why we like each other so much.”

She smiles, but still keeps standing. “Um,
could I sit with you guys?”

“You don’t have to ask,” Rose tells her.
“You’re our friend.”

“I wasn’t sure. I’m not used to having a lot
of friends.”

“Just you and Kenny normally, huh? But now
there’s Matisse, taking up his time,” Rhieve says, and I want to
smack her.

“I won’t interfere with your time together.
I promise,” I tell Waverly.

“I’m not worried about that. He’s my best
friend, and it makes me happy you two are together.”

“You’re being too civil about this. I wanted
a catfight,” Jen says.

“Of course you did,” I tell her, rolling my
eyes. “You could always kiss Wayne in front of his groupies, and
then you’d have your own catfight.”

“Moving on. I think we should all go out
tomorrow night.”

“I’m flying out to see Joel,” Sierra reminds
her. Her boyfriend is a Major League Baseball player, and she flies
out to see him on her days off.

“How about tonight then?” Jen asks.

We all agree that it would be fun to have a
girls’ night out. We’re making plans when arms go around my
shoulders from behind, and a kiss is placed on my cheek. “Hi,
Tees,” Kendrick whispers in my ear.

“Hi, Doc,” I say, turning in my seat to
smile at him.

“Are you going to tell him your big news?”
Harlow asks.

“News?”

“I got 100% on my Physics test.”

“So, you
were
paying attention
when I was quizzing you the other night.”

“Apparently.”

“Congratulations. I knew you could do
it.”

“Thanks. Are you eating up here, or going
back to your office?”

“Going back. I have paperwork to catch up
on. I’m glad I caught you in here, though. The guys asked me to go
out tonight. I know we didn’t have specific plans, but I wanted to
let you know.”

“We’re going out, too,” I tell him.

“You’re working with Zane this
afternoon?”

“Yeah.”

“Do you want me to bring you a snack
later?”

“Is snack a metaphor for something else?”
Sierra asks him.

“No,” he tells her coolly, and I know he’s
not completely over the whole eavesdropping thing.

“Maybe it should be. You’ve got to up your
game.” Okay, and neither is she.

“His game is perfect,” I tell her, standing
up to put my arms around him and whisper in his ear. “Ignore
her.”

“I was planning to. I know she’s just
baiting me because I got her in trouble,” he whispers back, pulling
me closer to him.

“You both need to get over it.”

“You’re right,” he tells me. “Sometimes it’s
not as easy as it should be, but I’ll try harder.”

“I appreciate that, and I’d love for you to
come see me later.”

“Any specific requests on the snack
front?”

“Nope. I’ll be happy with whatever you want
to bring me.”

He kisses me, and then lets me go. “Have a
nice rest of your lunch, ladies.”

I wait until he walks away to say what I
need to. “Don’t do that again, Si. You know how I feel about what
you did. You got punished, and it should be over. Kendrick and
Waverly don’t need to deal with your bullshit.”

“I have no problem with Waverly, and if you
didn’t notice, your doctor wasn’t exactly friendly to me,
either.”

“He said he’s going to try, so you need to
as well.”

“As long as he doesn’t make tattling on me a
habit, we’ll be fine.”

“He just values privacy,” Waverly says,
speaking up for the first time. “He’s never been one to
tattle.”

“I know we were wrong. I just wish he
would’ve called me out directly instead of telling Reina.”

“So tell him that,” Waverly urges her.

Sierra nods, and calls out for him as he
walks by with his food. “Kendrick!”

“Yes, Sierra?” he asks, walking back
over.

“If I make you angry about something again,
can you please confront me and not go to Reina?”

“Yes, I can do that. I was angry, and I’m
not exactly sorry I told on you, but I also don’t like getting
anyone in trouble.”

“I understand. Truce?” she asks, holding out
her hand.

“Truce,” he tells her, shaking it.

All is right again in the world. Well, at
least for the moment. With this group, there’s no telling what’s
going to happen next. I can only hope it’s more good than bad.

Kendrick

Matisse said she didn’t care what I brought
her, but I know how much she loves Drago Sisters Bakery, so I
stopped there and got her an assortment of goodies. It was a little
out of the way, but she’s definitely worth it.

Right now, I’m waiting for her to get done
with her client. I think it’s cool that she’s still tattooing, even
though she’s training for something totally different as a career.
It’s great that Stella was able to set her up with Zane. His mom
may be one of the founders of the Society, but he’s still pretty
famous in his world, so taking on a new intern had to upset his
schedule a little.

I should’ve asked Matisse what her schedule
was like today, because I’ve read about 100 pages in the new Harlan
Coben novel on my phone already. I’m thinking about checking in
with the guy at the front desk when a girl sits next to me, even
though there are plenty of empty seats at the moment. I say “girl”
because she looks like she’s barely eighteen. I shift away a
little, but she leans in closer.

“Hi.”

“Hello,” I tell her, and then look back at
my phone.

“These are nice,” she says, squeezing my
right biceps.

I push her hand away and stand up, switching
Matisse’s pastry box to the seat in between us as I sit again. I
changed into a tank top, cargo shorts, and leather thong sandals
before I came here as a surprise for Matisse, not so some teenager
would touch me.

“Ooh, what’s in the box?”

“Various things.” I don’t have enough brain
energy for this.

“Can I have one?”

“No.” Hell to the fucking no, actually, but
I’m still trying to be polite.

“Why not?”

“They’re for my girlfriend.”

“She won’t mind.”

“Oh yes, she will,” Matisse says, walking
over and straddling me.

I didn’t see her come out, but I couldn’t be
happier right now, and not just because she’s showing more skin
than she’s covering in another loose tank and jean shorts, this
time paired with fishnet stockings and red shiny shoes. I place my
hands on her hips and smile as she leans over to open the box.

“I only share my treats with him,” she tells
the girl, picking up a cream horn and putting it in front of my
mouth.

I lean forward and take a bite. She eats the
rest, getting some cream on her fingers. I take her hand and move
it to my lips, licking it all off. Once I’m done, she leans over
and kisses me hard.

“Wow! Real classy.”

I hold Matisse down as she starts to get off
my lap. “She’s not worth it.”

“You’re right. Have you been waiting
long?”

“I’ve been here for a little while. I caught
up on some reading.”

“I’m sorry, Doc.”

“You’re a doctor?” the girl asks, but I
ignore her.

“I don’t mind waiting for you. Are you
taking your break now?”

“Yep. I just have to clean up my station
first.”

“Excuse me, but I’m waiting for a tattoo.
You can’t take a break,” the girl says.

“You don’t have an appointment with me, and
you’re not my boss.”

“I could make things
difficult for you. For
both
of you.”

This time I don’t stop Matisse when she gets
off my lap. “Are you threatening us? Because I am more than happy
to throw down with you, right here and now.”

“You can’t fight me!” Why is this idiot
standing up? Sit down little girl, just sit your ass back down.

“Can’t I?”

“What the fuck is going on out here?” Zane
asks, making an appearance.

“You’re Zane,” the girl says, swaying a
little. If she faints, I’ll have to help her, but until then, she’s
on her own.

He rolls his eyes, and looks at Matisse. “Is
this chick messing with you, M?”

“You’re asking
her
what happened?” the
girl screeches.

“I asked the world in general, but no one
answered, so yeah, I’m asking my employee and friend why you’re out
here making a scene.”

“I insist you listen to me first.” Did she
really just stomp her foot? I think she did.

Zane looks at Matisse, who shrugs and rolls
her eyes. “Okay, go ahead and tell me.”

“I was out here talking to this guy when she
climbed on his lap and started making out with him. Then, she said
she was taking her break, even though I’m here waiting for a
tattoo.”

“Does she have an appointment with you?”

“Nope,” Matisse says. “I just finished a
two-hour session with my last appointment. I have—had an hour
before my next one.”

He nods and turns back to the girl. “So, let
me get this straight. You came into my shop—which has a two year
waiting list—and tried for a walk-in appointment, in which case you
were probably told you could wait and see if anyone was willing to
fit you in. Anyone but me, that is, because I don’t do
walk-ins.”

“But,” she starts to say until he holds up
his hands to stop her.
