David sat in the office of the accountant. He didn’t need the stupid prick
,
but he did need to be able to see when Sydney went into the office directly across from this office. She had an appointment at ten, which was in three minutes. He was afraid she wasn’t going to show.
David was just covering his watch back up with his sleeve when she stepped off the elevator.
She wasn’t alone.
David smiled.

He had had the young man,

Coop
,”
as he’d been called
,
thoroughly checked out.
He knew why he was here, when he had arrived
,
and who was looking for him
.
He’d also been happy to hear from one of the men he had watching her house that the two of them seemed to be getting along rather well.
He stood up just as his name was called.

Ignoring the woman, he stepped into the hall and was thrown against the wall hard.
He looked up at the gun Sydney had at his forehead before he spoke.

“So I see that
civilian
life hasn’t cooled your temperament for acting first and kicking ass later.
Want to take the gun from my head before I get hurt
?
” The man behind her laughed
,
but didn’t move.
“Hello, Coop.
Nice seeing you here.”

“Fuck you
,
David. You knew I’d bring him.
What the fuck do you think you’re doing setting up bogus doctor’s appointments in this building?” David looked at her.
“Yeah, I knew it was either you or some other dumb fuck that wants a piece of me.
Speak up before my finger gets a cramp.”

“Do you think we can do this in a less public place?”
David nodded as best he could to the door across from them.
“That room has been debugged and no cameras.”

She looked up at the camera above them. “That one’s not working either. Why do you think I’m
late?
You really think I’m that stupid?”

She pulled the gun away fr
om
his head
,
but didn’t put it away.
David moved from the wall and that’s when he noticed that Coop had his gun out as well
,
only his was a little more discreet.
David shook his head as the three of them entered the office. Sally was there sitting in one of the chairs and David could see she’d been busy.
There were pictures hanging all around the room.

“Hello.
I’m Sally. I’m going to be giving you both information on what’s going on and I will be your contact from now—

“W
hoa
there
,
kid.
I don’t give t
w
o shits what you think you might be, but right now I want answers from him.” Sydney pointed her gun at David. “If he blows wind up my ass then whatever you say just don’t mean squat to me.”

“Well, you’re just a rude bitch
,
aren’t you?”

David started to tell Sally to back off, but Coop grabbed his arm.

“Yeah, that’s me in a nutshell. And I would imagine you can be too if necessary.
Sit.”
Sally had started to stand
,
but immediately sat back down when Sydney pointed the gun in her direction. “I was lured here for a bogus
appointment;
the building has more people watching it than an episode of the
Playboy
channel, David comes out of an office I know is a crook
,
and you want me to listen to whatever it is you have to say as if I’m supposed to need it.”

David laughed. “You always were too smart for your own good.
You’re being followed and someone wants you dead.”

Sin knew she was being followed. Whoever it was had been doing it now for a few days.
She’d noticed him the day after her and Payton had started sleeping together.
Sleeping?
They hadn’t really done a whole lot of that, but it had been wonderful.

They’d gone to Tightly Bound last night.
Byron had been there
,
bu
t
not Taylor.
He’d
shown them around and even g
ave
them a tour of his own private play room.
Sin had tried not to be embarrassed
,
but it had been difficult.
Most of the

toys

he’d shown them w
ere
things she’d only heard of
,
not seen.
Payton had asked all kinds of questions and then had spent a small fortune in the shop even with the

family

discount Byron had insisted on giving them.

But they’d used some of the things and
,
as it was right now
,
she wanted to rub her nipples w
h
ere the
y
still ached a bit
from the rings he’d clamped there
.
She looked over at him and blushed when he winked as if he knew what she’d been thinking. She turned to David and Sally.
“And I’m supposed to trust her why?” She pointed to the girl. “
Her
I don’t know from Adam and the last time I heard, you’re still a part of my problem
,
not the solution.”

David looked over at the girl and nodded. Something was going on and she was sure she wasn’t going to like it. Blindly she reached for David’s hand and he took it.
Sally stood up and sat next to David.

“My name is
Sally Patterson. David is…he’s my dad.
I’m pretty sure you can trust me as much as you do him, Miss Waite.
Or do you still go by
c
aptain?”

“Mostly Sin. He calls me Sydney.” She pointed at Payton with her free hand. “Daughter?
I can see your mom in you.
How come…you wanted to keep her safe in
case?
You are a sly bastard
,
aren’t you?”

David laughed. “Her mother did it mostly. She made sure no one in the service knew about her.
By the time I’d met you it had become habit and she was already away at college by then.
She…she has wanted to meet you for years.
I just…things went from bad to worse when you got hurt.”

Sin didn’t say anything.
What could she say really
?
H
e was right and they both knew it.
She looked over at Payton.
He leaned forward and spoke to David.

“What do you mean someone is trying to kill her?
Is it because of me?”
Payton grinned. “You should be a little more selective about who you have investigat
ing
me.
My mom has plenty of friends in high places.”

David laughed.
“No, though you should know that you’re
involved
too.
And when you showed up here today I figured you knew. This does have to do with you as well, as I’ve said.
You both know a man that is indirectly and directly involved.”

“Carl Wickett. Yeah, Payton told me. And he was married to my sister Quinn for about ten minutes. But what does that have to do with me? I didn’t marry him…had I
have
, he’d be dickless about now
,
” Sin said as she stood.

In
fact, I don’t think I’ve ever met the ass.”

“I’m not really sure, but my sources tell me that he was a part of you getting attacked. He is said to
have
been willing to pay a bonus to the man who killed you.” David handed her another file. “There was a leak in your unit.
I have a man looking into it and he’s pretty sure that he knows who the man is.
He won’t tell me
. H
e said that he’s going to take him out himself.”

Sin immediately thought of Shipley. It sounded just like something he’d do.
Not give her up, but take out a man he thought would be a leak.

“And you’re okay with this?”
Sin snorted.
“You got pissy with me when I told you I wanted to knock that guy on his ass for making me wear a jock strap and you’re going to let this guy kill another man on the assumption he was a leak
?

“Waite, that man was a four
-
star general and you said you were going to cut his balls off and use them to fill your strap
,
not knock him down. I believed you…still believe you as a matter of fact
,
but that doesn’t negate the fact that he was a general and you were going against orders.”
David grinned at her. “I think you made your point anyway
,
if I remember correctly.”

“What did you do?”
Payton asked when Sally started laughing. “You didn’t threaten the man
,
did you?”

“No
.
” David was laughing so hard he could barely speak. “She convinced all the men in her squad to wear a bra filled with water balloons.
All of them. And a few of them started leaking down the

” David took a deep breath before he could continue.
“Down the front of their shirts and into their pants.
They all looked like they’d been lactating.
And they…and they had their straps on the outside of their pants just as she did.”

Sin continued the story. “When the general asked me what the fuck I was doing
.
I told him that I wanted to make sure that my men were properly dressed and since I had to wear a strap, then it was only fair they would be required to wear a bra. When he asked me why they were wearing their undergarments on the outside I told him that it was against Army policy for me to check their clothing and I needed to make sure they were dressed for inspection.”
