Richard yanked open his trousers. “The same thing your brother offered me: the opportunity for a fuck.”
“You cannot mean to . . .”
“I'll do whatever I damned well like.” Richard paused, one hand on his already erect cock. “Unless you want to tell me the truth?”
“There is nothing to tell you, sir!”
“Then lie down and take it like the man you insist you are.”
Richard advanced and Lennox kept moving backward until he came up against the side of the bed. His color was high and his breathing harsh. He held up his hand. “Mr. Ross, Richard, I . . .”
“So you do at least know my name,
Mr
. Lennox?”
For the first time in his life, Richard was beyond listening, of being careful, of being the
sensible
one. Rage and shock and disbelief consumed him, and he was enjoying the feel of it roaring through his veins. With all his strength, he spun Lennox around until his face was buried in the covers of the bed and his arse was at a nice angle that begged to be fucked.
Keeping one heavy hand in the small of Lennox's back, Richard reached into the drawer beside the bed and found a bottle of oil. He'd almost like to plunge into Lennox's arse dry, but even he wasn't that much of a bastard. He slathered oil around his already wet cock and then onto his fingers.
He pulled down Lennox's trousers to expose the smooth muscled globes of his buttocks and plunged his oiled finger deep in the other man's arse. He quickly added a second and then a third, widening the passage for his cock, making the body on the bed as wet and needy as he was.
And then he was easing his cock deep inside the tight passage, groaning with each thrust until he was balls deep, his whole body covering the prone form of “Vincent Lennox.”
Richard bit down on Lennox's ear and heard him whimper. He shifted his weight, allowing one of his arms to wrap low around Lennox's hips and delve lower.
“I suppose you want me to play with your cock.” His fingers settled over the swollen wet folds until he found what he sought. “A shame it is so small.” He pinched the nub of flesh between his forefinger and thumb, and then rubbed back and forth. “Perhaps I can make it bigger for you, all swollen and sensitive like mine, all ready to explode.”
“Richard.” The muffled word was more like a cry than his actual name.
“You always liked things a little differently, didn't you? Or did you consider the sacrifice of your body a fair exchange for avoiding telling the truth?” He increased his pace, thrusting in and out until he could only hear the smack of flesh on flesh, of his own animalistic grunts. “Will you come for me, then? Will you take your pleasure from me?”
He squeezed hard and as Lennox screamed, he felt the answering throb in his cock as he spilled his seed deep and then lay still, collapsed over the other shuddering body.
After a few long moments, he eased his cock free, rolled away, and flipped Lennox over onto his back. Furious blue eyes stared up at him.
“If you are going to pretend to be a man, Violet, you really need to grow a better cock.”
Violet stared up into the angry face of Richard Ross and considered the changes that time had wrought. It was almost ten years since she'd last seen him, and he looked rather different. His face had filled out, the lines of exhaustion and lack of nourishment eased by his new safe existence. Bitterness filled her and she shoved at his chest.
“Get off me.” He didn't budge an inch, and she fought to free her hands. “You are a vile seducer!”
“It's too late for that, Violet. You didn't even try to stop me.”
“That doesn't mean I enjoyed being mauled.” She lowered her eyelashes. “And mayhap I was pretending so that you'd get it over with and get off me.”
“You were so wet I could've stuffed all four of my fingers in you.”
“Then why didn't you?” she snapped.
His expression hardened. “If you choose to dress like a man, I'll fuck you like a man.”
Violet fought to control her panicked breathing. Jack had been wrong when he'd insisted her former lover was no longer a threat. Richard might look soft, but beneath the surface, he was the same cold, calculating bastard he had always been. She should remember that.
“There are reasons why I must dress like this.”
He raised one eyebrow. “Because you are supposed to be dead?” His grip on her shoulder tightened. “Because you damn well
lied
to me?”
“It's not that simple, Richard, and it isn't all about you.”
“Of course not. Why in God's name would you care about my feelings? I was just available for you to fuck, wasn't I?”
Violet stared up at him, heard the hurt behind his words, and for a moment she yearned to reach out, to stroke his cheek and tell him that he'd meant more to her than that, much more. But, of course, she couldn't. She had to protect her family, and what Richard thought of her was irrelevant.
“In truth, you fuck very well.” She deliberately relaxed back against the pillows and stopped resisting him. He shifted his weight over her, and she felt the hard press of his half-aroused cock pulse against her stomach.
He pushed away, his arms extended, his hands now planted on either side of her shoulders. “I'm not sure if I want to fuck a corpse.”
“You just did.”
“No, I fucked Vincent Lennox because I couldn't find his twin.”
He levered himself completely off her and strode over to a low table that contained a bowl of water and soap. Violet watched him warily, one eye on the door. Could she dress and escape before he reached her? Considering his anger and his earlier speed and strength, she doubted it. The scent of lavender soap drifted toward her, mingling with the smell of the sweat and seed he'd left on her skin. She remembered the lavender fields of France, of the two of them finding joy even in such perilous circumstances. God, her arse was sore where he'd pounded into her, but she'd take him again if he wanted her . . . let him take her hard and fast and . . .
She started to sit up and he glanced back at her.
“Don't even think of leaving, Violet. I'm not done with you yet.”
He walked back to the bed and threw a washcloth at her. “Clean yourself.”
She met his impatient gaze. “You don't want me wet?”
He swallowed hard. “I want to get to the bottom of this mystery.”
“As opposed to my bottom.” Violet couldn't resist. She carefully rubbed the cloth between her thighs, aware that he was watching her and that she wanted to keep cleaning herself until she climaxed right in front of him.
Richard gave a bark of laughter. “Now I see why Jack Lennox reminded me so much of you. Neither of you has any bloody sense.” He turned toward her again. “Is he truly your brother?”
“Yes, he's my twin.” At least she could tell him the truth about that.
“You never mentioned him.”
“I didn't know he existed until fairly recently.”
“How convenient for you.”
Violet put down the washcloth and pulled up her underthings and breeches, wincing slightly.
Richard frowned. “I hurt you, didn't I?”
She met his gaze. “As you pointed out, you did nothing that I didn't encourage or enjoy.”
He sighed. “I lost my temper. That doesn't excuse what I did, but—”
Violet held up her hand. “I forgive you.” She edged toward the side of the bed. “Now, this has been very nice, but I have to find Jack. There is something I have to do for him.”
“Are you trying to pretend that Jack didn't engineer this entire event and order you to lead me here?”
“No, he didn't!”
He slowly shook his head. “You lie so well I'm almost tempted to believe you. But why else would your brother deliberately lead
me
on a sexual dance and then not deliver the goods?” He considered her for a long moment. “Although I suppose he might consider he fulfilled his purpose by delivering you to me. Was that the plan all along?”
Violet raised her chin. “I wasn't expecting to see you here tonight.”
“I don't believe you.”
She stalked toward him. “I don't care what you believe. I'm going to find Jack!”
As she tried to get by him, he pushed her back into the room and escaped through the door. Seconds later, she heard the key turn in the lock. Even though she knew it would do no good, she banged on the solid door panels until her fists hurt. Would Jack have deceived her like that? It wouldn't be the first time. Eventually she gave up and started searching the room for a suitable weapon.

Richard leaned against the locked door and struggled to master his breathing. He should have realized that Jack Lennox's elusive twin was none other than his long-lost love, Violet. Her likeness to Jack was indisputable. But he'd not known her as Lennox. But he'd not really known her at all, had he? They'd been thrust together into a series of dangerous missions where they'd satisfied their natural urges with fierce lovemaking to remind them that they were still alive.
That was all.
Nothing else.
Then why did he feel as if his whole world had been rocked to its foundations? She'd taken the joy from his life and turned him into the dull man his family joked about. Richard briefly closed his eyes. He was still furious at Violet's deception, but deep down, not surprised. If anyone could escape death, it would be his feisty first love.
Richard headed back down the corridor to the larger of the public salons. The Oriental acrobats had dispersed, and there was no one performing in the room apart from the huffing and puffing of the regular guests. There was also no sign of Jack Lennox, and Richard
dearly
wanted to see him.
He waved at Marie-Claude and went back along the hall to the second and smaller salon, where a group of chairs faced a small stage. The room was in half darkness and silent, apart from the lascivious sound of a man sucking another man's cock. Richard halted and stared at the stage where Jack Lennox stood, his breeches open, a tall blond man kneeling between his legs.
The man wore a leather mask that covered his whole head and almost all his face. There was a chain attached to the thick collar around his neck with one of the footmen holding it. The rest of the man's body was a mass of intricate leather straps that wrapped around his hips and tightly caged his cock and balls. His arse was plugged with a leather dildo with a curly tail on the end that brushed against his buttocks as he sucked.
Richard sighed and leaned against the wall. He refused to disrupt the “performance.” Hopefully Lennox would be so befuddled by lust that forcing him to do Richard's will would be easy.
Jack's lowered gaze reached Richard's and he smiled. Richard smiled back, imagining his hands around Jack's throat squeezing the life out of him. Jack groaned and his hips lifted as if he was pushing his cock deeper into the man's mouth. Richard felt an answering twitch in his own shaft and remembered how Violet felt, the tightness of her arse, the slap of his flesh against her buttocks . . .
Jack shouted out and climaxed to polite applause from the audience. The blond man sat back on his haunches and the footman patted him on the head and offered him a sweetmeat. As soon as Jack walked away, another willing candidate took his place.
Jack sauntered over to Richard, buttoning his trousers.
“Do you want a turn? He makes an excellent dog, doesn't he? I'll stay and watch.”
Richard palmed his knife and placed the blade against Jack's throat.
Jack blinked. “I didn't realize you were the jealous type. I didn't threaten
you
with a knife when that woman sucked your cock.”
“This isn't about your cock,” Richard murmured, marveling yet again that Lennox had remained alive for so long. “Come with me.”
“I will if you put that knife away.”
“Then you will have to be disappointed.” Richard pressed the tip of the knife against Jack's skin until a thin trickle of blood appeared. “Move.”
He grabbed Jack's arm and maneuvered him to the locked room, turned the key, and shoved his nemesis through the door. A flash of movement caught Richard's eye as Violet tried to brain her brother with a candlestick. Jack only narrowly avoided her blow as he lurched to one side.
Richard relocked the door and pocketed the key as the brother and sister shouted at each other in guttural French. Eventually they faced Richard and went quiet. He studied their faces, marveling at both their likeness and their differences.
“The first thing I want to know is, do you still wish to speak to Madame Helene, or was that simply a ploy to gain my attention?” Richard asked.
