Kayden:

I sat in the car that I rented to give out the invites to Jordyn’s party. For invitations all the girls got diamond bracelets with their names on it. While the boys got dog tags with their names. The theme was Fashion week in ATL. There was going to be an entire fashion show at the party with A-list designers. I even managed to get Drake to come to Atlanta for the party and I arranged for her to have a white carpet. The party colors were white and gold so anyone out of color would not get in. I only invited 100 of her friends, seeing as though my father’s club only allowed 300 people there at one time. I was going to make it a night she would remember, being that her last birthday party probably was when she was turning three.

Once I was done handing out the invites I sat in my room and thought back to when I was that age. I couldn’t believe what my life had become. Jordyn became my motivation to do better and that’s exactly what I was going to do. I had enrolled for classes at the local college and was happy. I was going to be getting my degree in business management. After I obtained my degree I was going to open my own party planning business. I was starting to grow up and act my own age for once in my life. I walked downstairs to overhear my mother complaining to my father about Jordyn for the thousandth time. Jordyn had been here for a couple of days now it was time my mother got over it. I was too busy with last minute changes being made for Jordyn’s party tomorrow. My sister was waking up 17 and having the biggest party Atlanta ever saw.

              Chapter 9:

I woke up to my brother and sister singing “Happy Birthday” to me. Kayden and Jayden had made me a big breakfast that consisted of all my favorites. I was too happy at this moment. I smiled and said thank you to my siblings. Kayden walked out of the room. Jayden looked at me smiled and handed me a big box. It was filled with everything I could think of. He bought me a Birkin bag that was my favorite color, pink. He also got me a black and white Celine bag. In the box was an envelope with $100,000 in it. I shook my head, handing it back to him. The bags alone cost him a pretty penny. He smiled at me and put the envelope in my drawer. I said thank you and ate my breakfast. Once I was done eating Kayden handed me a letter. I could tell she didn’t want to give it to me, but she whispered,
You’ll get your gift from me tonight.
I went to my room and picked out my outfit for school and changed my bag to the new Birkin bag Jayden had gotten me. Almost forgetting to read the letter, I sat down on my bed and opened it.

Dear Jordyn,

Happy birthday, baby girl. I wish I could be with you right now but I’m working on myself. Since I left I’ve gotten clean. I’m in rehab out in L.A. far away from everybody that supported my habit. I know you’ve been waiting for this day since you started high school and found out you were eligible for early graduation. Jordyn, you’ve always made me proud. Now it’s my turn to do the same for you. Next time you see me I’ll be a better me, I promise. I love you, baby girl. Everything I do from this point on is for you.

Sincerely, your loving mother, Tinker

I looked at the letter trying to grasp the fuckery I had just read. I wasn’t going to respond to her. I refused to. It was my day. I tossed the letter on the floor and started to get dressed. I was going to be late today but who cared? I had on my all white jumpsuit that Kayden had custom made just for today, it had cuts in the sides and was strapless. I threw on some red Giuseppe sneakers. I had curled my hair the night before with the flex rods. I even went all out and put on some lipstick from M.A.C. called Russian Red. There was a knock on my door and in walked my father.

“You look beautiful, baby girl!”

“Thank you, but can you not call me that, please?”

“No problem. It’s your birthday and I’m not in the mood to argue with you. But remember this, I called you baby girl before everything happened.”

“I know big…Dad. Thank you, but I’m about to be late to school.”

“You’re not going to be late,” he said as he handed me the keys to a Porsche. I screamed, jumping up and down, and ran downstairs and out the house, forgetting my bag. My father was hot on my tail, handing me my bag and kissing my forehead. He even handed me and new phone. It was the iPhone 6 that hadn’t even come out yet. I was too excited. I smiled and could see Star in the background pissed. I was trying to figure out how to work this thing. I used my phone and called Trey to see if he wanted a ride to school. Of course he said yeah. I pulled up to his house and found him sitting on the curb high as hell, waiting for me. I got out of the car and gave him a hug, he smiled and reached in his pocket, pulling out a diamond necklace with an array of diamonds; some white, some pink, and a little bit of black. I smiled and leaned in and kissed him. He looked at me as if I was crazy.

“Sorry!” I said, about to walk back to the car. I barely made it to the curb before he pulled me back into him, kissing me this time. I thought to myself,
Jordyn, what the hell are you doing?

“Happy birthday. I see you father went ahead and bought you the Porsche Spyder.” I just nodded and pulled off to school.

As soon as we pulled up to the school, all eyes were on us. Shyla ran up on me and jumped on me.

“Happy birthday, best friend,” she said, handing me some balloons and a card.

“Thank you, but can you get off me now?” We laughed and headed inside; Trey went and joined his friends in the staring game. TaKiera walked up and bumped my shoulder. It was my birthday so I was trying not to fight, but I couldn’t say the same for Nicole who just punched her in the face and walked away. Nicole locked arms with me, while Natalie locked arms with Shyla.

“Happy birthday, though,” they said in unison, tying more balloons to my bag. They both handed me cards and we separated, heading to our classes. I walked in my calculus class with Rich Homie Quan’s “Walk Thru” playing in my head. I busted my model walk all the way to my seat, with all eyes on me. I sat down and went straight to work, and then TaKiera walked in sporting the black eye that Nicole had given her not too long ago. She grilled me for the whole period before attempting to step to me only to have Trey stand in front of me.

“Ma, I’m walking you to your next class. Shit, with that outfit on and the amount of haters in the building trying to fuck up your day, I’m going to be your body guard for the day.” I laughed at him as TaKiera stood there mad at the fact that he was protecting me.

“You hurt baby mama feelings!” I said with every sarcastic bone in my body.

“Baby mama? Nah kid, he ain’t mine,” he said jokingly but you could hear the hurt in his voice. For four years he watched, took care of, and protected that little boy with all his heart. I looked at him and could see a lone tear falling. I grabbed his hand and headed for the exit toward my car.

Trey:

I sat in the car with Jordyn staring at me, waiting for me to speak on how I was feeling, but I couldn’t form the works to speak.

“When did you finally open it?” she asked as she put the car in drive, heading wherever her heart desired.

“The day that you left, since TaKiera was bringing him over that weekend. He ain’t mine but he look like me. She knew all along, too. She allowed me to take care of a little nigga that ain’t mine. I’m emotionally involved with him. Why would she play me like that? I should kill that bitch. I should burn her and send her to be with her creator. Four fucking years of my life that I can’t get back. A bond that I can’t break without feeling like I’m failing him.” I felt the tears fall; I’d just relieved a weight off my shoulder. I knew she wanted to respond but I didn’t want to hear it. I turned on the radio and Tupac’s “Life Goes On” was playing, making me think long and hard about what to do.

Jayden:

I sat in my room listening to my mother bitch about my father buying Jordyn a car. My father had bought all his children cars on their 17
th
birthdays so I don’t understand why she was tripping. I didn’t care to understand either. She was too old to be acting the way she was acting. All the while I knew if she was mad now she was going to be having a heart attack tonight. Although my father didn’t really party he was making sure we all went to the party, Star included. If she showed out he was probably going to beat the shit out of her. I went and checked on sleeping Ivy waiting for the babysitter to come since it was 7:30 p.m. and the party started at 8:00 p.m. I called Trey, making sure Jordyn was still with him. Of course, she was. I told him to make sure she got dressed; he wasn’t to bring her to the club until 9:30. They were to do whatever it is that they do when they’re together. I was on my way to get one of the three cakes Kayden had ordered. She was really making this night special for our little sister.

Chapter 10:

I sat in the car with Trey, blindfolded and bored. I could have been playing with my phone, but no. He turned me into a passenger as soon as I got him to my hideaway that turned into our hideaway. It was a place that Tinker use to take me all the time on the other side of Atlanta where she always dreamed of raising me. I tucked thoughts of Tinker to the back of my head and took a catnap until we arrived where he was taking me.

Ten minutes later we pulled up to the destination. He got out of the car and quickly grabbed my hand and led the way.  We stopped again and he took off my blindfold. “Surprise!” everyone screamed out and I almost passed out. I was too happy. This was something I could only dream of. Kayden had outdone herself. I walked up to my father and hugged him.

“Thank you for everything,” I said, looking up at him. He just smiled.

“It’s my job and I should have never stopped doing it.” I pulled him towards the dance floor as Luther Vandross’ “Dance with My Father” played. I laughed and whispered to him “I guess you a dancing thug, huh?” He just smiled, bringing back memories of when he was always around. It reminded me of the last time I saw him. He had picked me up and spun me around until I was dizzy. Tears started to fall. I felt him wipe my face, and this was a moment that was only a dream a month ago.

“I will never leave your side again,” he said, causing more tears to fall. The song ended and I wiped my face. I turned to walk away when I felt a hand land on my shoulder. It was Trey looking at me. He grabbed my hand and led me to a fashion show that was filled with clothes that I loved. Once it was over, Kayden got on the mic. She cleared her throat and tapped on the mic about ten times.

“I just want to say happy birthday and let you know that I’m extremely proud of you. I love you, little sister. Continue to make me proud.” On what I assumed to be the cue, Drake came on the stage rapping his song “Make Me Proud.” I was too happy. No one was going to be able to bring me down off this high. For about the next hour we had a mini concert. Artists like Chris Brown, August Alsina, and Li’l Durk were there to wish me a happy birthday. It was midnight and my birthday was officially over but the party was still going on. I was having fun and my girls and I were the center of attention. Around one in the morning my father got on the mic.

“Happy birthday, baby girl. It’s your day. I know I gave you one of your gifts this morning but I have something for you, so if you’ll follow me outside I would appreciate that.” I started heading for the exit with my girls on my heels. The whole party was now outside as a White 2015 Mercedes G-Wagon with a pink bow pulled up. I walked over and hugged my father. I was truly blessed. Kayden got out of the car holding a black Yorkie and handing it to me.

“I told you you’d get your gift from me later, right? Happy birthday again, little sis.” She handed me the keys and my new puppy that I named Pac. I jumped in the car with my girls only to see it filled with every piece of clothing that the models had worn and she also blessed me with two Prada bags, one black, the other one red, and three pairs of red bottoms. I couldn’t even drive off. That’s how happy I was. My day was made with people who only wanted the best for me.

I drove off towards the house. My father was allowing me to have a sleepover so we were going to have fun for the rest of the night. I turned on the radio and let Big Sean’s “Memories” play. These were definitely the best memories I’d had all my life.

The “turn up” was real all weekend. My girls stayed with me until Sunday night. It was definitely a lit situation, but unfortunately I had school today. I was awakened by my puppy Pac licking me on my face. I gave him a quick belly rub and headed downstairs to let him out in the back. I headed back to my room and took my shower, making sure I washed my face extremely well. I left my hair in its naturally curly state and threw on some sweats and a crop top I was not in the mood to dress up. I texted Trey to see if he wanted to ride with me. He quickly texted me back that he was already on his way to school. I grabbed my keys, got in my car, turned on my radio, and headed to school. Since I had moved in with my father, I no longer worked at the mall, upon his request. I was thinking of ways to make my own money and had come up with something that I planned on running past my girls first. This way we could all make a little bit of money. I pulled up to school at the same time as Trey. I waited for him to get out, seeing that he had TaKiera in the car with him. Being the girl that I was, I flipped my hair, grabbed my bag, and met up with the girls.

Trey:

I could tell that Jordyn was pissed with me but me and TaKiera’s relationship was different and something that she would never understand. I walked in calculus with TaKiera on my heels. Jordyn looked up and smirked at the scene in front of her.
