MARIA

Holy crap, holy crap, HOLY CRAP! I couldn’t believe I was going to see Enrique after such a long time. His timing was perfect. Zack was away on a trip—like he always seemed to be—and the kids were at the beach with my mom. I rummage
d through my closet, trying to figure out what to wear. A short dress? No, that would seem like I was trying too hard. Maybe a denim skirt and a body-skimming top? Yeah, that would work. Solid choice.

When I pulled up to t
he Montgomery Hotel, my stomach was in knots. I hadn’t seen Enrique since we graduated from college. After we graduated, each of us had lived at home for a while. We’d toyed with the idea of getting back together, but he ended up going to the East Coast to get his MBA, and we lost touch.

Seeing him again made me so nervous I felt like I was going to vomit. I took a quick peek at myself in my rearview mirror, smoothed out my hair, and reapplied my Merlot-colored lipstick. I rubbed my lips together—just like my mama showed me when I was a kid—took a deep breath, and stepped out of my Jeep.

The doorman gave me an approving glance as he held the door open for me. “Have a nice evening, young lady.” The “young lady” comment made me smile, and when I stepped into the lobby, there was Enrique, walking toward me.

“Maria!” He picked me up and spun me around as he hugged me tight. “Let me take a look at you.” He scanned my body and my face, taking me in. “You look gorgeous, Mari, just incredible!”

His words and sexy Spanish accent made me feel weak in the knees. “Thank you, Enrique. You look amazing too. You haven’t changed a bit.”

It wasn’t totally true. If it was possible, he actually looked better now—and that was really saying something. His once lean body had filled out to broad shoulders and chiseled muscles. His crisp, white button-down was in stark contrast to his olive skin, and his black suit pants hung just so, subtly highlighting the impressive bulge waiting beneath them.

“Are you hungry?” he asked.

“Famished. Let’s eat!”

We walked into the hotel restaurant, and he told the hostess we’d arrived; she sat us at an intimate corner table. Enrique pulled my chair out for me and tucked me in once I was seated.

I ordered a shrimp Caesar salad, and he ordered lobster tail and a bottle of white wine that cost more than my car payment. I was so flustered I could only pick at my salad; being with E
nrique had me completely out of my element. My stomach was empty, but he kept pouring the wine and I kept drinking it. Before I knew it, we’d gone through two bottles. We laughed and reminisced for the entire meal, intoxicated by memories and lust.

He picked up the check and asked if I wanted to join him for a nightcap in his room. I paused for a moment, trying to read his expression. Did he really mean “just a drink” or did he have something more in mind? He just stood there smiling with his head tilted slightly, waiting for my answer.

I decided that for me, right then, it didn’t matter what his motives were. “Sure, that sounds great.” Going to his room meant we’d have more time together, and in that moment, that was all I cared about.

He unlocked the door to his room and made a beeline to the mini-bar. “We have tequila, rum, vodka. How about I mix you up a rum and Coke?”

“Sure.” I sat on the plush, golden yellow couch and waited for him. He had two big drinks in his hands when he stopped in front of me.

He sat next to me—very, very close to me. I felt his warmth and drank in his delicious scent. He smelled like Eternity for Men mixed with coconut shampoo. We sipped our drinks and then set them down on the table.

Enrique put his hand gently on my knee and looked into my eyes, asking me with his gaze if I wanted more. “Mari, you look amazing. You were hot in school, but honestly, you are more beautiful today than ever.” His voice was low and raspy.

I raised my eyes to meet his and thanked him wordlessly. He took my face in his hands and very slowly leaned in for a soft kiss. The hair on my arms stood up and my heart was racing. I couldn’t believe such a tender kiss could turn me on so much.

I pulled away for just a moment; it was our last chance to not do this. But when I looked in his eyes, I realized there was no turning back. The yearning in his eyes rendered me helpless, unleashed my true desires. I leaned in and kissed him back, more strongly this time, hungry for more.

Our tongues danced and teased as we sucked and nibbled at each other. His hands ran through my hair, softly down my arms, across my ribs, wandering all over my body. I ached to feel more. He took my arms and held them over my head as he slowly pulled off my top. He kissed my shoulder before his lips made their way down to my ribs. He unhooked my bra, slid it off me, and then sat for a moment just looking at me.

“Enrique, I…” I hesitated. I’d never done anything like this before.

He ran his hand up my inner thigh. “What is it?”

“I’ve never … I’m married. You’re married.”

“Maria, I’ve never cheated on my wife either. I never thought I would, but seeing you again…” He took his hand off my thigh and grabbed his drink from the table. He drained it in one gulp and turned back to me. “Maria, you are extraordinary.”

He took my breasts in his hands, rolled his tongue around my nipples until they were both rock hard. Then he picked me up from the couch and carried me over to the bed. He laid me down gently and slowly pulled my skirt off. He started on my neck and ear, nibbling and kissing, sucking and teasing. Apparently, time does not erase our sweet spots or our tipping points. Enrique remembered exactly how to turn me on; wet, long, slow kisses on my earlobe were all it took to soak my panties.

His fingers caressed my ribs as he sucked on my nipples. Then his mouth slowly moved down my body, lower and lower. I still had my panties on; he buried his face in them before he started nuzzling and gently nipping at my inner thighs. His hands massaged my ass cheeks and hips as he teased my pussy, not yet letting me have all I wanted for.

“Mmm… you feel so good, Enrique.” I was aching to have him go down on me. I could barely think, but I knew what I wanted to do to him. I pushed him over onto the bed and straddled him. I kissed his lips, his neck, and his chest as I slowly unbuttoned his shirt. When I got to his waistband, I ran my tongue along the inside of his pants.

“Maria,” he moaned. “I need to feel your pouty lips on me.”

I could feel how hard he was and I ran my hand over his cock; I didn’t remember him being this big back in school. I licked my lips and unbuckled his belt. I slid down and took his cock in my mouth. No doubt about it: he was definitely bigger.

He moaned again and started breathing in short, ragged breaths. I relaxed and ran my tongue up his shaft. It was like we had never been apart; memories of the two of us together flooded my mind as I continued to suck him.

He grabbed my hair and guided my head faster and deeper until he arched his back and moaned loudly. “Maria! Sweet Jesus, I’ve missed you.”

I licked my lips, looked back up at him, and grinned. Before I could say anything, he sat up and gently pushed me back on the bed. I could feel my own wetness dampen my inner thighs as he slid my soaked panties down my legs. On his way back up, he kissed my calves, then my knees, and then my trembling inner thighs. He knew the art of teasing, and my pussy thanked him with even more wetness.

His tongue paused on my clit; I was already quivering uncontrollably. He slowly licked it, and then sucked on each lip, one at a time, until I was squirming and begging him for more. His fingers moved in circles on my lips before he put one finger inside me, then two; he licked my pussy while he fingered me. I was in heaven.

“Baby doll, I’ve missed you so much.”

“Please, Enrique. I need you. I need to feel you inside of me.”

Enrique hesitated for a moment.

“It’s okay, baby. I’m on the pill. You haven’t been with anyone but Claire, right?”

“No, of course not.”

“Okay, then. I need you now.” My hips moved up, begging him to enter me.

He shifted his body, came up, and gave me a long, passionate kiss. I could taste my juice faintly on his lips. He lay on top of me, teasing me once again, this time with the tip of his dick. He moved his hardness around my clit, teasing me ever so slightly and then pausing to come out. All this did was make me wetter and crave him more.

When he finally entered me, I was almost shaking. He made love to me with such passion; it was like every movement was incredible to him. His eyes were open, and I could see he was getting more turned on as he felt my pleasure. He rotated his hips and found my rhythm. First around in circles, and then I needed more thrusting. He lifted my ass off the bed and massaged my cheeks as he pounded into me. His balls crashed against my ass, my back arched to feel every inch of him deep inside me.

I had never felt such ecstasy in my life. “Oh my God, oh my God, Enrique! You feel amazing.”

My moaning increased until my body couldn’t handle it anymore and I exploded in complete bliss. He kissed me hard on the lips after I came.

“Flip over, Mari. Get on all fours.”

I did as he said, and he reentered me slowly, powerfully. “Mmm . . . Maria, you feel so good.” He went in and out, in and out, first very slowly, and then faster and faster.

His hands kneaded my ass, and then his fingers landed where I was still pulsating from my orgasm. He licked his fingers and then slowly circled my clit as he thrust into me. The co
mbination of his touching my clit and his pounding brought me quickly to the edge.

“Yes, baby, yes! I’m going to cum again.”

“I’ll wait for you.” He slowed down his movements and danced his fingers a little faster, rubbing my pulsing flesh side to side as his cock rode in and out of me in a steady rhythm.

He kissed my ear and whispered, “I want to make love to you all night, Maria.”

That was all it took for me to unleash again and explode all over his throbbing cock.

“Oh, amor, you are amazing,” he whispered. “Now it’s my turn.” Enrique began to pound me a little faster, and when I could tell he was close, I reached back and caressed his balls just a little. “Dios mio, Maria!” He moaned loudly as he came, his hardness getting even thicker, pulsing each time his hot juices pumped into me.

I was awestruck by what a generous lover Enrique was. I’d been with many men in my life, but he was the first one who spent so much time giving me pleasure. It was like he could feel everything I felt, and his body responded to my wants and desires, taking me to places I had never been before.

Afterward, we simply lay facing each other for a while. We were both out of breath, sweaty and sticky with our juices. “You were unbelievable, Maria, just incredible,” he said softly as he ran his fingers through my hair. I couldn’t help notice the way he looked at me. I felt like he was trying to say something more, and I remembered a quote I read somewhere years ago. I can’t remember where I saw it, but the words stuck with me: “Sometimes we hear something that isn’t said.”

I fell asleep in Enrique’s strong, protective arms. I was too drunk to drive home that night, but even if I hadn’t been, there was no way I would’ve left Enrique’s side.

When I got up to go to the bathroom the next morning at five, I decided to sneak out. I didn’t want to wake him; he looked so peaceful sleeping on his side, his lips parted as he snored lightly. I left him a simple note, not wanting to sound too happy about our night together or assume that it meant anything to him.

Good morning, baby. Thanks for an incredible evening.

Maria

LIZ

Just when I thought what was going on with Maria was a big deal and that nothing could surprise me more, my friend Julia asked me to meet her for lunch. It was a gorgeous summer day in California, eighty degrees and not a cloud in the sky. We met at Nicky’s, an adorable little French café with outdoor seating and fabulous food.

I arrived first, got us a two top outside, and ordered a Diet Coke with lemon. When Julia arrived, she was looking like her usual adorable self, dressed in a turquoise maxi dress with her hair pulled back in a silk headband.

“Hey, Julia.” I gave her a big hug. It had been at least a month since we had gotten together.

“Hey to you, slim! Wow! You look like you’ve been working out.” And she was right; I had been working my tail off at the gym, so I was flattered that Julia had noticed.

“Thanks, Julia. Yeah, I’ve been hitting the gym hard with my friend Jennie. I’m trying to get into pre-mom shape. You know how that goes.”

“Yes, I do.” She trotted around showing off her slim figure.

But the truth was, she really didn’t get it. Julia was one of those naturally petite girls that could eat and eat and never gain an ounce. And besides, she only had one daughter. She had gained a measly fifteen pounds during her pregnancy and walked out of the maternity ward in real jeans. Yeah, she was that girl, but I loved her.

We sat down to order, and I could tell something was on Julia’s mind. After a few minutes of small talk and catching up on the kids, I found out why we were really there.

“So… what’s your friend Tyrone like?” Julia asked, trying to sound innocent.

“Tyrone?” I raised my eyebrows quizzically. “Well, he’s really funny and fun. He’s married with one son, smart, good looking, sweet. Any reason you want to know?”

Julia’s right cheek swelled like she was a chipmunk hiding acorns in her cheek. Then she smiled and looked up at me.

“He sent me a friend request on Facebook and he seems nice, that’s all.”

“Oh, no. Oh no you don’t, Julia. Do not even consider becoming friends with him on Facebook. If you do, that’ll be all she wrote,” I warned her in a serious tone.

Julia scoffed at me. “C’mon, Liz. Don’t be such a drama queen.” She flipped her long hair over one shoulder. “Accepting his friendship request doesn’t mean I’m gonna spread my legs for him.” She rolled her eyes.

“Um… actually, I think it does. You don’t know him. He’s young and sexy and chari
smatic. I can see the running dialogue in his head every time he sees a hot woman. He is trouble with a capital ‘T’.”

“You’re such a prude, Liz. Give me a little credit, would you? I have lots of guy friends on Facebook.”

“Yeah, but you don’t know Ty.”

“Not yet, I don’t. Anyway, it’s not like I need your permission. You do know that, right, Liz?” Julia’s voice took on a pissy tone, and it was clear she didn’t like me telling her what to do.

“Yes, Julia. You’re right; you don’t need my permission. But just be forewarned, and when it happens—because it will—remember I told you so.”

Julia pushed the lettuce around on her plate with her fork. She’d barely touched her food.

“For God’s sake, what is your deal? What’s going on with you?” I prodded.

“Oh, I don’t know. Aaron is just ‘meh’. It’s like he doesn’t even have a pulse. There’s just no fire there, you know; there’s not even a puff of smoke. It’s like he only married me b
ecause I met the requirements on the ‘Jewish Wife Checklist’ and I’d get his mommy’s seal of approval.”

“Oh?” I paused, giving her a stern look. “Really, Julia? Isn’t that sort of like the pot cal
ling the kettle black?”

Julia bit her lower lip and lowered her eyes. Her expression had gone from annoyed to sad. “Gee, thanks,” she said, obviously stung. “But you’re right. I married Aaron for all the wrong reasons. My parents were so happy that I was finally dating someone rich and Jewish; all I heard was how great he was. Most of my friends were already married, and my biological clock was ticking like a time bomb. There just isn’t any fire in our relationship. There never really was.” She exhaled deeply. “Fuckity, fuck, fuck. My life is such a fuckin’ mess.”

“Oh, and if you become friends with Tyrone you’re really going to get fucked.” We both cracked up, and Julia raised her wine glass to my Diet Coke and said, “To getting fucked.”

It was nice to see a glimpse of the old Julia, even if it was just for a split second. Julia was my big sister in our sorority at UCLA. She was the life of the party, the girl who would get up on tables and dance; she knew how to party with the best of them.

She was fun and beautiful and all the guys loved her. So when I met Aaron at their engagement party, I had to admit I was surprised. He was so different from the guys she typically dated. Her college beau, Kevin, was in a cool fraternity; he was into working out and was good looking and fun.

Aaron was Kevin’s polar opposite. He was decent looking, I guess, but in a buttoned-up way. He was very serious and sedate, an investment banker who always looked the part. But not only did he come from money and have a promising future when they met, Aaron was also Je
wish. This, as far as Julia’s mom was concerned, was the only thing that mattered. I think Julia got so wrapped up in who Aaron was on paper that she forgot to ask herself who he really was or, more importantly, if she really loved him.

“Liz, let me give you an example. The other day I was all dressed up to go out. And not for nothing, but I looked fantastic. He didn’t even flinch; he didn’t notice me at all. There wasn’t one acknowledgment that I looked nice or pretty or hot or anything. When I went to say goodbye, he didn’t even look up from his paperwork; he just kissed me on the forehead like I was a puppy or something and said, “Have fun.”

“I walked into the bar that night, and you want to hear the really sad part? I got more approving glances that night from strangers than I have from Aaron in the past five years. A dozen guys must have undressed me with their eyes or told me I was hot. I need some passion in my life, a little fire. And I’m sure as hell not getting it from Aaron.”

“Have you talked to Aaron about this? Maybe he doesn’t even realize. Maybe you should give him a chance to show you he does still feel passion.” I felt awful for my friend.

Julia sounded really sad all of a sudden, her voice trailing off. “Look at me, Liz.” And I did.

What I saw was a beautiful woman. Julia had long, wavy, golden brown hair, soft doe eyes, gorgeous, full lips, and an adorable figure. She was petite but had womanly curves and great boobs—the best money can buy.

“See,” she stammered, “that’s just it! Even you look at me more approvingly than Aaron. Goddamnit.”

“But Julia, you’ve been married for a while now. It’s normal for some of that passion to fizzle out.” I was speaking from some of my own experience and from my friends whose worlds all seemed to be unraveling before my very eyes.

“I’m desperate here, Liz. I feel like I’m withering away, dying of thirst. I need something.
Anything
. Just a hint of approval would be something at this point. Anyway, a little flirting never hurt anyone, right?”

I sat with her words for a moment. I knew the flirting comment was nothing but candy coating, but her sadness was palpable. She needed love and attention, just like we all do. Her heart was a cavern of emptiness. I knew in my heart Julia would get what she needed. One way or another, she would have it. I was sure of it.
