Seth turned in Chance’s arms, staring up at him. A small smile tilted Seth’s lips. “Liar. You love the fact that I’m a bear now. Admit it.”
Chance shrugged. What could he say? He loved the fact that Seth was a bear now. It only made him feel closer to his mate. He felt a stronger bond between them, and he wouldn’t trade that for the world. “Will you be mad at me if I said I love that you are one of us now?”
Seth sighed. “No, but I’m peeved that you just lied about changing me if you could. You can’t lie to me if this is going to work, Chance.”
Chance felt his heart speed up. “You’re okay with being a shifter?”
Seth gave a slight nod, looking very tired in the moment. “I can’t change it, so why flip out about it? All I can do is deal with it now.”
“Who are you, and where is Seth?” Chance asked. “The Seth I know would argue and rail, break down and run.”
“Am I really that much of a pain in the ass?”
“Yes,” Chance answered. When Seth glared at him, Chance held him closer. “You wanted honesty.”
Seth twisted his lips as he stared at Chance’s chest, smoothing his hands down Chance’s shirt. “I did, didn’t I?”
“So,” Chance ventured, “are you going to move in now?”
Seth pulled from Chance’s arms. That was not a good sign. He watched his mate pace back over to the window, turning so he looked at Chance. “I think I should.”
That wasn’t the answer Chance thought he was about to get.
“I mean, not only do you need to help me learn this bear thing, but I can’t live away from the man I love, can I?”
Chance stood there for a moment, wondering if he had heard Seth correctly. “You love me?”
Seth sauntered back over, pulling Chance down by his shoulders so he could stare Chance directly in his eyes. “You are my home, Chance. You not only smell like home to me, but I don’t think I will ever feel safe anywhere but in your arms.”
“I can help with that,” Chance said as he pulled Seth closer, nuzzling his neck. “I love you, too, my sweet morsel.”
Seth chuckled as he kissed Chance lightly. “But promise me something, Chance.”
“Anything, baby. Anything I have is yours. Anything you want I’ll provide for you.”
Seth grinned. “Thanks, but that wasn’t what I was asking for.”
Chance looked puzzled, so Seth continued. “Promise me that this exciting life that you lead doesn’t get any crazier than this. Tell me it slows down.”
“You asked me not to lie to you, Seth.” Chance wished he could promise his mate a mundane life, but living in the paranormal world was anything but mundane. He wished he could chase away all the insanity, but Chance knew he couldn’t. Life was what it was, but he knew Seth would survive, just like everyone else.
“Then tell me the truth,” Seth said as he began to kiss Chance’s neck, laying soft kisses along his skin, making Chance shiver as he held his mate. He never wanted to leave the embrace of his mate’s arms. Seth may think he was home when Chance held him, but his mate had no idea what being in Seth’s arms did to him.
Seth may be home, but Chance was complete in every possible way when Seth was this close to him, letting him know just how much he meant to Seth.
“The truth is that I can’t give you promises of a future I can’t see, but I can give you safety and love, Seth. I can promise that every morning when you wake up, you’ll never regret being with me.”
Seth grinned, and it was Chance who felt like he could finally hang his hat and kick his feet up, because Seth was not only home, but the whole damn ranch.
