Jack pauses. “I think it’s because she saw our faces,” he says. I’m surprised he didn’t mention Angelina.

“Yeah?”

“I guess we can head back up there and let her see us some more,” I say.

I can hear Jack smiling through the telephone. “That’ll be good.”

“Cool, then I’ll call Maggie.”

“All right.”

“All right.”

After a long beat Jack says, “And, um, Charlie. Thank you.”

Angelina tries to roll out of bed, but I grab her and pull her back under me.

“You’re welcome,” I say. “See you soon.”

We end the call.

“Shouldn’t we get to the hospital?” Angelina asks.
