Chapter Four

What?  I can’t believe my eyes.  This letter was written about
two hundred forty years ago by Daisy’s father.  So…?  I look at Daisy.  She is
about nineteen or twenty years old.  That means… I have traveled over two
hundred years back in time?

I try to calm down.  After a while, I ask, “Daisy, what’s
the date today?”

She thinks for a short while and then says, “The eighth of
March, 1776.  Why?”

Wow, I’m back in history now.  That’s why Daisy doesn’t know
Atlanta is the capital city of Georgia because the city does not exist yet, nor
does Coca-Cola, of course.

Wait a sec… why doesn’t Daisy know the United States of
America?  Isn’t this the year of birth for this great country?  Then I realize
right away.  Now it’s only in March.   I will have to wait until July for the Declaration
of Independence.  I will then have to wait until September when Congress will
replace the name of “United Colonies” with “Unites States of America”.

Great.
I become so excited and want to know more in
the letter.  I read carefully.  Some words are quite different from what we use
today.  For example,
busynesse
in this letter means
business
, and
sicknesse
means
sickness
,
downe
means
down
.

Here’s a small piece in the letter, which I have tried my
best to translate into modern English:

By reason of my sickness and weakness, I was not able to
travel up and down the hills.  Minerals to be had here are gold, silver, and
copper and therefore, I will endeavor, by the grace of God, to effect what I am
able to perform…

I raise my head. Daisy is looking at me quietly.  “Did your
father find gold?” I ask.

She shakes her head.  “By the time he was writing this
letter, he had been very ill.”

“Did your father go to see the doctor?”

She nods.  “I became ill first but I recovered.
Unfortunately, my father, mother, and all my brothers and sisters…”  She almost
cried.  After a while, she adds, “Then everyone left the village.”

“I’m so sorry, Daisy.”  I whisper.

Daisy wipes her eyes.

It could have been a breakout of a disease.  I know very
little about medical science.  But I know in the eighteenth century, people
didn’t have the ability to control the breakout of the disease yet.  Their
living conditions made the situation worse.

We enjoyed a great day together.

“Thank you, Daisy, for your hospitality.”  I smile.  “Can I
come to see you again tomorrow?”

“Certainly.”  She smiles so sweetly.  “Promise?”

“Promise.”  I grin.

Today is my show off day.  My backpack is full of goodies.  I
drove thirty miles to get them.  I want Daisy to have a taste of the future
life.

I put the backpack on the table.  Bobby dashes from nowhere
and wags his tail hard.  He tries to climb up to the table, scratching with
both paws.

“Bobby, please mind your manners.”  Daisy tries to stop him.

I pull a few dog food cans and show Daisy one.
“Pretty.”  She looks at the can carefully.

“Can I feed Bobby with this?” I ask.

“What’s inside?”

“Chicken and brown rice.”  I grin.

“Certainly.  He shall love it.”  Daisy smiles.  “Thank you
so much, Andy.”

Bobby finishes the food and comes back for more.  “Bobby, time
to play now.”  Daisy smiles, pointing at the hill.  Soon, Bobby disappeared.

I then pull a few more cans out and give Daisy one.  “This
is yours.”

“Thank you so much, Andy,” Daisy smiles.  She holds it and
reads carefully, “Co-ca-Co-la,” She smiles at me. “What’s this?”

“A soft drink.”  I smile.

“A s-o-f-t drink?” She is so confused.

“Okay, a soft drink is a sweet drink.  It has bubbles, too.”

“Bubbles?  Really?”  She sounds so excited.

I pull out everything: hamburgers, fries, ice creams, cakes…
Daisy really likes them.  “So delicious.”  She smiles.  “You eat them on
holidays?”

“I eat them every day,” I smile.  “If I want.”   What I
didn’t tell her is many of them are junk food.

I pull out my iPad and play a video.  Daisy’s eyes round and
widen.  “Why, tiny people.  Are they real?”  Then she covers her eyes right
away. “Lord, naked girls.  So sinful.”  Girls are walking on the beach in the
video, wearing bikinis.

Daisy prepared some tea.  We eat the cake and drink the hot
tea.  It’s so peaceful and comfy.

“Daisy, why didn’t you leave with the other villagers?”

“Why?”  She looks at me, smiling.  Her eyelashes are long.

“Don’t you feel bored all by yourself?”

“No.  It’s so peaceful.”  She says.  “I had been to Savannah
a few times.  It’s too noisy.”

Right.  I look around.  I see trees, grasses, a vegetable
garden, a woodhouse… Isn’t it
the
life of my dreams?  I used to joke,
“give me a canoe and I’ll disappear.”  This is definitely a place I do want to
disappear to.  The Shangri-La of my dream.

I look at Daisy.  And she looks at me.  “Daisy, what a dream
life you have.”

Chapter Five

“Thank you, Andy.  I had enjoyed the life all by myself.”  She
smiles.  She thinks for a while and says softly, “I certainly want more.”

“Like?”

“Like a family,” she whispers.  “And kids.”  She looks into
the far distance.  “Many kids.”

She steals a look at me and then blushes.  After a while,
she whispers, “Shall we have many kids?”  She thinks for a short moment. “For a
good colony, certainly.”

Later in the afternoon, I’m impressed by her BBQ.  The food
is all fresh, with fish from the creek, mushrooms from the hill, and vegetables
from the garden.

She takes pickles from large jar.  “I made them myself.”  She’s
so proud of herself.

“How much more do I need to be spoiled?”  She smiles.  “I
have everything.”

I feel so comfortable and so relaxed.
What if I can live
here?
Right.  Then I don’t have to worry about my job, my mortgage, and my
boss’s sour face.  I don’t have to move up on the social ladder.  I don’t have
to please anyone.  I don’t need recognition from strangers.  All I care is my
family.  My wife and kids.  They are the only ones I have to please, to care,
and to love.

Isn’t this the Paradise on Earth?

Daisy is right.  “How much more do I need to be spoiled?  I have
everything.”
It’s
we
, Daisy.

She is such a sweet and innocent girl.  She is looking at
me.  Her eyes are smiling.  These eyes, they were in my dreams the whole night
last night.

Is this love?
  I don’t know.

She turns her head away from my eyes.  Then she turns her
head back. “Andy…” she murmurs.  Her cheeks are all red.

“Daisy, I…” I really want to say
love
.  But we are
strangers to each other, right?  Plus, she is such a conservative and shy
girl.  I don’t want to embarrass her.

“‘I…’ what?” She smiles.  The corners of her mouth curve up
perfectly.  Two small dimples appear on her red cheeks.  She looks at me yet
tries to avoid my eyes.

“I…” I feel like an idiot.
Hey, come on, Andy, you’re a
man.  What’s wrong with you today?
I take a deep breath and think hard. “I…
like you.”
Silly.  Andy.  You’re a chicken.
I think for a short while
and then add, “May I?”
Shush, Andy!

She smiles so happily.  “Yes, you may, sir.” She is trying
to make a little joke, covering her cheeks with both hands.  “I… like you, too.”
She murmurs, lowering her eyes.

I really want to hug her and kiss her.  In fact, my manhood
is now growing thicker and longer non-stop.  I feel so sinful.  But what can I
do?  I’m a young man.  I need… okay, I have to confess, I’m thinking of sex
now.  I know I’m dirty.  But that comes with my affection and love.  Yes.
Love
.

What did Daisy say?  “Do we need many kids?  For a good
colony, certainly.”  Who is
we
?  There are only two people around here.
Who else the other person could be?

Yeah.  Kids. I like to play with kids, especially boys.
Okay, having kids may need more than playing with them.  But I promise I will
love my kids and be a good father.  And a good husband, too, of course…

Should I ask Daisy how many kids she would like to have?
Oh,
no, Andy, this is so rude.
I shake my head and smile, feeling my manhood standing
high…

“Andy, want to race?” Daisy looks at me.

What?  Race?  Running like kids?

Then I realize it’s so natural for Daisy.  Kids back in the
eighteenth century didn’t have TV and video games.  They couldn’t enjoy the
Internet, either.  They played outside with other kids.

“Sure, why not?” I grin and stand up.  Today, two big “kids”
are going to have fun.  I extend my hand to help her stand up.  She hesitates for
a short while and gives me her hand.

I pull her gently.  She stands up, right in front of me.  We
are so close together.  I can feel her breath.  I can smell the fragrance of
her body.

She looks at me, saying nothing.  Suddenly, she struggles to
free her hand.  She turns to her left side and gets ready to run, “Ready?” She
smiles. Then she kicks off her shoes and get ready again.

I take off my sneakers and socks.  The sandy ground is wet
and cool.  It feels so good.

“Set… go!”  Daisy runs.  I begin to chase her but almost
stumble to the ground.  Man, running barefoot is so hard.

Daisy run along the sand dunes all the way and splashes into
the water.  Her skirts get wet.  I run over and stop, gasping.

Daisy laughs so hard, she bends down.  Suddenly, she stands
up and looks at me.  “Andy?” She stands still, raising her head and closing her
eyes.

I step forward, hold her body gently and give her a light
kiss. “I love you Daisy.”

“I love you, too, Andy.”  She murmurs, looking at me.
Suddenly, she steps back and wipes her lips with the back of her hand.

“Daisy?” I don’t understand.

Chapter Six

She looks at me.  Her cheeks are all red.  After a long
while, she mumbles, “Andy…, my mom said I can only kiss my man.”  She sounds so
apologetic.

“You mean your fiancé or husband?”

She nods.  “Andy…” She bits her lower lip.

Time flies.  I’ve finished my field work now.  What to do
next?  Sure, we know each other much more now.  However, there is a concern.  Daisy
doesn’t want to leave her colony at all.

I brought her to our “New Colony”, as she called it, a few
times.  She likes everything but feels a strong obligation to stay in her
colony.  “We should grow the colony.  Not to let it disappear.”  She insists.

That’s fine.  Meanwhile, I still want to have a decent job
and earn good money.  This is critical for us to have a good life with great
comfort, excellent health, and a ton of fun.

I struggle in my mind for almost a week.  Daisy knows I may
leave soon.  She is not happy at all.  Each time we meet, her eyes turn red.  “It
hurts.  Really hurts.”  She almost cries.

Tomorrow, I will have to leave.  My boss wants me to be back
in the office immediately.  I figure I should leave for now.  I need to keep my
job and think about our relationship on what to do next.  I really want to find
a way to be together with Daisy while earning good money.

Daisy looks at the food and clothing I brought.  “Andy,
thank you.  I’m so grateful.”  Her voice is so soft but her smile is so stiff.

“I guess these are not what you want, Daisy?”  I ask.

She shakes her head. “I want you… to… to… stay.” She almost
cries.

“Daisy, I promise I will come back, okay?” I try to comfort
her.

“When?” She looks into my eyes.

When?
To be honest, I don’t know.  And I can’t lie
to her.

“Andy, it’s painful.”  She sobs.

“Did you try to forget me?  At least for now?  For a short
while?”

“I had tried.  But still it’s painful.”

I know
it is
.  It’s definitely hurtful for Daisy, not
knowing when I may come back.

Now I feel the pain, too.  I hate myself.
Andy, is the
job really more important than love?  Think about the life without Daisy.  Is
it going to be a life at all?
I shake my head.

Stupid.
I look around.  Now I see a home, a wife,
and many kids.  I can’t afford to lose all these.

“Daisy, I love you.”  I hold her hand and bend on my knee.
“I want to stay with you for the rest of my life and take care of you.  Will
you marry me?”

Daisy nods, tears rolling down her pretty cheeks.

Then I realize one thing missing: The ring.  I hit my head.
Andy, see what you did?

I think hard and then take off my high school graduation
ring.  “Daisy, I know this is inadequate.  Unfortunately, this is what I have
today.  It’s not a diamond but it carries my love.  I hope you will accept this
ring today.  I will definitely buy you a diamond ring later on.”

“Andy, I certainly will.”  She looks into my eyes.  “Love is
more valuable than diamond, Andy.”  She whispers.

“May I kiss you now, Daisy?”  I ask.

Her cheeks turn all red.  “Yes, you may, Andy.”

I hold her tight.  I look into her eyes.  She looks back at
me, smiling.  I move my lips close down.  She raises her head a bit, waiting.

I kiss lightly.  Then I kiss hard.  She wraps her hands
around my neck, letting the shower of my kisses landing on her lips and cheeks,
while enjoying my massage all over her body.

She is turned on, moaning lightly.  Soon, her moaning
becomes louder.  I move my hand down to hold her butt then her thigh.  She lets
me pull her thigh up.  She is wearing thick cloths all over.  But I still feel
her body turning hot.

I hold her up with both hands and walk into the house and
then into the bedroom.  The room is cozy and cool.  The windows are covered by
oil paper.  A large bed is close to the window.

I put her on the bed and ask, “May I?”

Daisy swallows hard.  After a while, she says, “Yes.  Andy.
Promise to be gentle.”

“I promise.”  I whisper.

I remove her belt.  It has beautiful silver buckles.  Then I
try to take away her gown.  It laces up in the front.  I have a hard time to find
out where to begin with.  Fortunately, Daisy is so helpful. She moves my hand
to where I can get my job done.

Then it gets a bit faster.  I take off her skirt all by
myself.  It covers her whole body from the neck down.

To my surprise, I see another skirt underneath.  This one is
shorter.  But still, it takes me a large amount of time, as well as Daisy’s
cooperation, to remove it from her body.
