“Impressed yet, darlin’?” Eva drawled.

In the faint distance, he could hear Marcus yelling. “What’s going on, Blaez? Talk to me, brother!”

Eva sauntered across the yard, knelt to the ground, and picked up the phone. Spreading her legs so she could flash Blaez, she remained squatted with her legs parted as she held the phone to her ear. “Is this Marcus?” She grinned at Blaez and sucked her index finger between her lips.

Realizing what she held in store, Blaez quickly scanned the yard, waiting for another extortionist to appear and wondering if Kurt and Suzette were somewhere safe, somewhere away from the house.

“Who is this?” The extortionist—Eva—pressed her thumb to her clit. “Why don’t you come on over to your honey’s house and I’ll refresh your memory.” She dropped the phone to the ground, swung her body around and seemingly stretched sideways across her own lap. At the same time, her fingers danced around her opening, charging forward in a deliberate attempt to perform the crudest of shows.

“Uh! Ah! Uh!” She stuffed her fingers inside her pussy and carried on like an absurd lover, one who was hell bent on providing grotesque acts.

Blaez took one step backward and then another. He butted up against a wall of blue and the squishy surface embraced him, closing around him until he was trapped.

“You will watch,” a male voice hissed. “This is all because you helped Eva betray me!”

Eva crawled across the lawn, snapping her teeth together as if she wanted to remind him of the one talent she hadn’t possessed when he and Marcus had taken her to—

“Oh God,” he muttered, dropping his head and sick all over. “What have we done?” He’d gone to bed with one of these things?

Eva kept inching closer. The gnashing sound resonated in his ears.

She was only a foot away when the roar of the MC’s bikes stalled her. Immediately, she jumped upright and dragged her hand up and down the slender curves of her body.

“This should be interesting,” Eva said, puckering her lips and blowing him a kiss.

“Tell me about it.” Marcus walked across the lawn, making a beeline for Eva.

“Look out, Marcus!” Blaez attempted to fight off the restraint of the extortionist, pulling his body away from the translucent wall. It was as if his arms were cuffed but the rest of his body could move freely without constraints. Still, when he thrust forward and tried to escape, it was no use. His body snapped back against the squishy surface and wrapped around him like a second skin.

Several of the guys approached, with Randon on one side of the lawn. On the other side of the yard, a few more marched toward Eva, following behind Kurt.

Blaez jerked to the left and right. Where the hell was Suzette? What had they done with her?

Marcus shot him a quick glance and mouthed, “We got this.”

Eva struck a pose and eyed the bikers coming for her. “All of
this
just for me?”

“All of this just for you,” Marcus assured her, reaching behind his back as the others did the same. Round after round of ammunition was pumped into the extortionist who had claimed the body of one beautiful girl, a young woman who had long since died when the extortionist had apparently claimed her body and stolen her soul.

As “Eva” succumbed to her death, a shattering cry resounded. “You will pay! All of you will pay!”

Unexpectedly freed, Blaez rotated to his left and whirled around to his right. The wind picked up several notches and the leaves rustled. Branches snapped and popped.

Blaez rushed Kurt. “Where is she?”

“Safe,” Kurt assured him. “She and Pageant are safe.”

An alarming whistle rang out along with the faint sound of chimes, only it wasn’t a musical presentation they were hearing. The wind had developed a new sound of its own as the yard appeared dark and dreary.

“She’s striking!” Randon screamed, diving for Eva’s body.

The MC scattered. Some of them shifted for better mobility. A couple of the prospects were confined by a translucent box and Randon winced as if he already suspected they would soon succumb to their deaths.

“We’ve gotta do something,” Kurt said, pushing by Blaez.

“Come on!” Randon said, dragging Eva’s body to the porch as the wolves and bikers taunted the invisible stranger.

“You’re a coward!” Randon screamed, obviously prepared to provoke a killer. “You’re too scared to show your face!”

“And you’re too weak to fight me as I am!” The extortionist’s wicked voice rose above a thunderous resonating beat.

“I’m not afraid of you,” Blaez said, stepping forward and hoping like hell Randon had his back.

“You should be!” The extortionist’s voice reverberated with stark evil. “All of you should fear what you can’t see. Moreover, you should fear what you’ll never be able to stop, and that’s all the many extensions of me!”

At that point, chaos erupted. Trees tumbled down. Lights flickered. The swimming pool drained. It was as if the whole place was corrupted by one being, one misunderstood entity.

A prospect with something to prove stood in the center of the yard. He looked around him as if he were disoriented and confused. “Come get me!” He spread his arms wide.

“He’s too far away,” Randon bit out, positioning Eva’s limp form in front of them.

“Get back, Leon!” Kurt screamed.

“I can take him,” he said in a barely audible voice.

“Sure you can, doll,” a woman’s sultry tone rose above nature’s discord. A sudden boom fell upon the earth like a dozen boulders crashed together.

Leon’s body went limp. He fell to the ground face forward as if he’d been shot in the back. He’d succumbed to the extortionist’s wrath.

“No!” Bikers screamed out as the youngest in the pack wilted away right before their eyes. The wolves, confined by the transparent wall, barked and whimpered as Leon went into violent spasms.

Seconds later, a calm washed across the lawn. Leon slowly rose to all fours and snarled at them as if he didn’t even know them. Then, he vanished into thin air.

There was nothing any of them could do to save him. They’d lost one of their own.

They’d arrived in Satisfying to protect the innocent but hadn’t been prepared to sacrifice one of their brothers.

The extortionists had won. They’d taken one from the pack. And they would pay just as soon as someone figured out how to exert revenge on an invisible enemy.

Chapter Eleven

A week came and went without an eventful happening. Randon, Pageant, Blaine, and Bart had returned to Pleasant the day before and Kurt awoke with a start early that morning.

The delicious smell of bacon, hot syrup, and coffee lured him to the kitchen where he found Marcus and Blaez gaping at their mate like she was the only woman on the face of the planet.

In truth, she was the only woman who mattered to any of them. And they still hadn’t claimed her, taken her as their mate.

“Good morning,” Kurt said, slipping a kiss on her cheek.

“Good morning to you too,” Suzette said, biting her bottom lip and giving him a lustful stare.

“Somebody woke up feeling frisky this morning,” Kurt said, helping himself to a cup of coffee.

“Might be our lucky day,” Marcus said, snapping a piece of bacon in half and stuffing it in his mouth.

“It is your lucky day,” Suzette said, kissing Blaez on top of his head in passing. “Enjoy your breakfast, boys. Then come find me.”

She slipped her arms out of her short silk robe and peered over her shoulder. “I’ll be upstairs in my room.”

“We’re supposed to eat now?” Kurt asked, taking a sip of his coffee and staring at those shapely hips and pretty ass.

“Don’t come upstairs until you have a full belly, boys.”

“We’re anything but boys, sweetheart,” Blaez said, turning off the stove in passing.

“For sure,” Marcus agreed, falling in right behind him.

She turned around with her palms facing outward. “Oh no you don’t. I worked hard at preparing your breakfast. I want to take a shower and when I’m done, I’ll wait for you.”

“Do you know how hard it is to concentrate on breakfast when the roundtable is full of boners?”

“Not my problem,” she said saucily.

“Oh it’s your problem all right.” Breakfast or no breakfast, Kurt wasn’t about to postpone the loving that had been on hold for far too long.

“Seriously, fellas. I worked hard all morning.”

“And your work is just beginning,” Marcus said, chasing her out of the kitchen.

Blaez stopped short of following them and turned. “Kurt, we waited this thing out. Do you think it’s safe here now? Is he gone? Will he
or she
return?”

“I do not know.”

“How did we fuck up and let someone like Eva get close to us?”

“The extortionists are masters of deception.”

“So we’ll always be looking over our shoulder?”

“Probably,” Kurt said honestly. He’d been thinking about that a lot lately. After they’d lost one of their own, he wasn’t sure the MC could make a difference in this building universal battle against the extortionists. The pack was no match for the ghostlike creatures stealing souls and bodies at a more rapid rate.

Blaez frowned. “You don’t think they can be stopped.”

“The night Leon—died—the extortionist said there were ‘many extensions of me’ and I’ve had time to consider that warning because that’s what it was—a caution.”

“Or maybe a threat?”

Kurt swallowed and processed. “If the extortionist wants to infiltrate the club or any group or organization, it can be done. Anyone can pull a mask and pretend to be someone they aren’t.”

“Only it is much easier for the extortionists to go unnoticed because they have supernatural powers?”

“Exactly,” Kurt agreed, cocking his head and listening to the laughter filling the house. “For now though. I’m not going to focus on the extortionists. We had a close call, one that could’ve taken away our goals and dreams.” He pointed at the ceiling. “And our future with Suzette.”

“We’ve got a bright one with our lady,” Blaez said.

“It’s looking pretty bright all right,” Kurt said, cutting off a bite of pancakes and shoving the delicious breakfast food in between his lips. He hurriedly washed down the food with a drink of coffee. “I was afraid of that.”

“What?” Blaez looked perplexed.

“It doesn’t taste as good as a hot and spicy woman.”

Blaez laughed. “Lucky for us, I know where we can find one.”

* * * *

Suzette stepped out of the shower and into her bedroom, where she discovered three hard and ready males lounging on her bed as if they’d been waiting for several hours. They looked positively bored and she could only imagine how they’d grumbled when she’d locked them out of the bathroom and told them to go back downstairs and eat their breakfast.

“Did you enjoy your pancakes?”

She was met by a mix of responses.

“Good,” she said, taunting them. “Don’t get too used to it, boys. When the kids come home, there will be more cold cereal mornings than bountiful breakfasts.”

“Speaking of bountiful,” Marcus said, staring right at her breasts.

“Ah, so now you want to see them?” she teased.

“We haven’t been the one tuckered out at night,” Kurt reminded her.

“I haven’t been the one volunteering down at the local police station,” she reminded them, not at all supportive of their need to hang out where the extortionist had destroyed an entire building.

“Come here, you,” Kurt said, crooking his finger back and forth.

“If memory serves me correctly, I owe you boys a show.” She dropped her towel and ate up the sight of dropped jaws, lust-filled stares, and stretching cocks underneath the white sheet.

“Somebody may want to tell our mate that ‘boys’ hardly describe the three of us.”

“What he said,” Marcus muttered, his gaze glued to her body.

“Ditto,” Kurt said, rolling his lips back and forth as if he were in deep thought. “You mentioned a show?”

She grinned. “Yes, but if I’m taking center stage, I want to play a game with rules in place.”

Blaez frowned. “What kind of rules?”

She’d pegged that one right. She would’ve bet an orgasm or two that Blaez wouldn’t find regulations or a set of proposed laws appealing.

“They’re nothing major,” she teased.

“Explain these rules.” Kurt stroked his jaw.

“Well for starters…” She butted her hips up against the dresser. “You have to stay over there.”

“For how long?” Marcus asked.

“Until the show is over.” She lifted her bottom and took a seat on the flat wooden surface.

“And how long will this little demonstration last?” Marcus had been pegged right, too. She’d tagged him as the impatient one.

“Just a few minutes or two,” she said, dipping her middle finger in her mouth and sucking on the slender digit.
