“
Does
Principia now know you’re alive
?”
“She does.”
“Why are you hiding behind vampires?” The beast relented, leaving Ciaran to deal with this profound moment alone. He faced Mike with his own eyes
, the ones not flaring the wer
e
wolf
.
“He’s not hiding you idiot!” Maestru screeched, “Let me out of this grave!”
“Vampire, have you forgotten your manners? Civility is wasted on no one.” Ciaran released him without apology.
“I
associated
with Maestru to be freed
and reunited
with my mate
.
It
was a task that seemed impossible. D
ay after day
,
I manipulated every second I could
until it happened. He brought Tatum to me. I thought if I showed up
here,
and you knew Jayce hadn’t killed
me, then
you’
d release
Rebecca. And Maestru expected me to negotiate your alliance to free his kind from the Habalines.
”
Ciaran’s eyebrows hiked. “So y
ou broke out and stole the queen aga
in? Even though
her abduction is the same crime that landed you in jail from the start? Rocks
must be rolling in your head, C
ousin. I think your reasoning is slanting your mother’s way. Perhaps they should pad the next cell that they place you in.”
“You’d let me go back to prison?” Mike was nonplussed. “You’re Alpha now. Won’t you back me up at all?”
“I’ve already risked war with Jayce’s pack for pure stupidity on my part
.” Ciaran shook his head. He was
exhausted,
and the day wasn’t half over.
“Unlike you, I learn from my mistakes.”
“You are at war now, what’s the difference?” Was Mike’s reasoning.
Ciaran was truly pained
refusing his blood, his best friend
, but he had to put his co-mates first.
“It saddens me to say this, but you sound like a spoiled child, Mike. You join the rest of our clan that uses my power for their mediocre gain. A snit here, a crime there, and a scandal they can’t handle on their own, they bring to me. In fact,
everyone
in our family has come crying to me, and that includes you. I’ve given myself out until I haven’t anything left for my new queen and co-mate or even this pack. That ends now.”
Ciaran placed his hand over Mike’s heart and said, “We were more than cousins; we were best friends. The thought of your death led me to horrendous decisions that I’ll never be able to justify to the female who means everything to me. So this is the best decision I can offer you now: If you want my assistance, then you are to grow up at once and help with this cause.
See where it takes you when you’ve cleansed your selfish soul.”

iaran found Rebecca in the castle’s chapel. He hadn’t stepped foot in the chamber since he was a lad. It held a dreamlike quality that he’d missed, an exclusive peacefulness found nowhere else. Sunlight speared the stained glass, casting his mate in an incredible glow. She was an angel. As they were werewolves, there was no surprise; she’d scented him before he spoke.
“It’s very beautiful here.” Brushing her hand across an ornate wooden carving, she looked through her lashes at him.
“Yes, you are.”
He stepped closer. “Where’s Blade?”
“He’s still sleeping. I was followed by six guards
,
if that’s what you’re asking.”
He shot her
a penetrating look. “I saw them and spread them out for privacy
.
Did he remove the…”
She cut him off. “Yes, he removed it before I showered.” She took another look around and said quietly, “
You can have
your
privacy
.
I’m finished.”
He asked, “Prayers to get away from me?”
“This shows you have a lot to learn about me, Ciaran.” She straightened her spine, dressed in jeans, a creamy fisherman’s sweater and saddle-brown knee boots. The items he’d provided for her and Ciaran was proud she wore them. He also wanted to rip them right off her curvy body with his teeth. Rebecca shrugged. “I’ll admit to selfish prayers. Everyone is guilty of that offense from time to time. But not today, I prayed you would s
ucceed in your quest to get our females back
.”
Taken aback, Ciaran thanked her. “How queenly and kind, you wear your new role well.” He inched forward, wondering when he would no longer scent her distrust even though he smelled her arousal right behind it. “Is the staff to your liking?” A domestic conversation they didn’t yet have.
She waved an unconcerned hand in the air. “I don’t care about those things.”
“You are at a place of honor, especially in our pack members’ eyes.
They want you to care.” He eased
closer. “I want you to care.”
She pressed her wee feet down, standing firmly in place.
That’s my girl.
“Are we still talking about the staff, Ciaran?”
“Maybe not,” he whispered. As he looked around, he saw changes he wanted to make to the chapel. It was a holy place and it deserved the best he could afford it. The pack needed a fine-looking place to worship.
“I’m listening.” She gestured
to a pew.
They sat in a
remarkably
comfortable silence before he began. “It doesn’t matter what was done to me in my youth. Sadly and horrifically, disgusting things happen to younglings daily, and they earn their medals by simply surviving and bringing themselves to walk again after crawling through such unimaginable filth.”
Rebecca let her knee touch his, nudging him on.
You have boundless courage, lass.
“No matter his prior circumstances, if any male is worthy of self-respect, he is responsible for making honorable decisions.” He blew out an anxious breath. “In total honesty, I should have never granted myself pity from the start. Even if it is the way of the Weres to avenge, I should have kept a clearer head while moving everyone’s thoughts forward, especially those belonging to my aunt. I should have told my clan to work out their endless lists of trivial issues and took the time to better myself as Alpha while strengthening this army for battle.” He swallowed roughly. “Maybe I would have been here sooner, taking back the suffering females years ago.”
She placed her delicate hand in his, twining her fingers around him.
“And when it came to you, I blew it.” He brought their hands to his lips, kissing hers gently. “There’re no words known to describe how sorry I am.”
“You’ve already apologized.” She was patient. “A male like you should know when to stop kicking himself around.” And for the first time, the acrid scent of distrust left the air.
“Because you’re going to do it for me?” he teased, nuzzling her throat. Spreading his scent over her skin, he marked this simple harmony with his female.
“No, because I honestly accept your apology,” she answered simply, and he felt the truth ring through. “I already had tentatively, but I see certain things through your eyes now. A clarity that I didn’t have before,” she explained, staring at the single candle she’d lit. “Perfection doesn’t exist in this realm; it’s a dream that evaporates with the dawn.”
She squeezed his hand. “Even though what you’ve done to me…yeah, you’re right.” She stopped and raised her eyebrows before continuing. “There are no words to describe it, but it sucked. Still, through the connection we have, I totally feel your remorse. And I’m certain that forgiving you is the right thing to do. Females can dish out mercy, you know? And it helped when Blade explained that you were taking me home for an extended visit as soon as it’s safe. A simple gesture that says you’re considering my feelings and wellbeing in all ways.”
“In every way, yes, I will always
put you first.” A promise
backed by
his thundering heart. “So if I were to ask you to marry me in the human way with a ceremony to be performed in this very chapel no less?”
One side of her lip went up as she looked around considering the possibility. “With Blade?” she asked, focusing brilliant emerald eyes on his that reached his very soul.
“I would insist upon it,” he murmured, leaning in and kissing each copper eyebrow. Her eyelashes fluttered across his cheek and his cock swelled by the simple touch.
“Alpha of Scotland,” she breathed, reaching up and twisting her fingers at his nape, “you’ve got yourself a bride.” A fervent kiss struck without warning. Ciaran suddenly felt Rebecca on every inch of his skin. A plush mouth that bit at his lip, a small hand that unzipped his fly, cushy breasts that flattened against his chest, all coordinated with ease by a blisteringly seductive female who had just straddled his thighs.
You finally come to
me
.
As she sat on his ready cock, she moaned like a lass who… “Are you grinding your little nub against the seam of your pants, my queen?” They were both panting as the ethereal animals they were.
“I wouldn’t do that in here of all places,” she said after releasing a groan that nearly made him shoot off in his jeans.
“Yet you just did it again,” he laughed heartily and grabbed her by the waist. Biting through her thick sweater, he zeroed in on a succulent nipple. “Perhaps it’s okay s
ince you’re
my queen.” She
curved
her back, nearly suffocating him with her heavy breasts.
What a way to go.
“I don’t know…ah…might be…oooh… sacrilegious…or something.” The panting escalated. Easing her hand inside his jeans, she found something hard. “What’s that?” Fishing through his pocket, she curled her fingers around a small box.
“Hmmm,” he chuckled. “Well, when a bonny lass dry humps a male he has no other choice but to get excited
…,” he trailed off.
“You know that’s not what I’m talking about.” She dug in, searching.
“I would think a queen would have much better things to wrap her fingers around. Still, my sweeting rifles as a bored mouse, does she not?” Snatching her hand from his pocket, he warned, “Curiosity can be a sin when in the wrong hands.” Ciaran tried his best to look stern but failed miserably.
He stood, lowering Rebecca to her feet and steadying her. Curling his finger under her chin, he reached down for a kiss but she pushed him away. “Give me!” She bit her lip, eyes full of excitement.
“So you think I have something for you and it doesn’t warrant a kiss?” His opposite hand stayed where it was, an irrefutable lock over his pocket. “Why should I give it to you then?”
“Because it’s already mine,
sire
.” She smirked, tapping a foot.
“Aye, it is.” He pursed his lips while thinking of the most indecent things to do between her thighs. “However, since I lost out on the kiss it seems you’re in need of a new bargaining chip.”
“Are you trying to piss me off?”
“That would be counterproductive to what I want.” Shoving his hand inside that same pocket, he purposely pushed down his jeans. The vixen had unzipped his pants
in a chapel
and it was his duty to take full advantage.
What male wouldn’t?
An Alpha’s work was never done and it was time to teach another lesson.
A show of legendary girth, he made. A broad crown peeked over the top of his pants. Wet in the divot that centered its head, it sat waiting…hungry. “What are you staring at, lass?”
Green eyes bugged out.
“Seriously?”
“A question with a question, that’s not your style.” His cock throbbed with his laughter, mesmerizing Rebecca as a cobra weaves back and forth.
My prey is nearly cornered.
“For once you’re at a loss for words.” Lifting her like a small youngling, he instructed, “Wrap your thighs around me, beautiful girl.” She complied, pushing his shirt collar aside and biting the tendons in his throat. “Ah, my female…that feels so right.” Carrying her towards the door, he opened it with his mind. Enjoying the feel of her warm center over his head, he savored every step. “I have a place where you haven’t yet been, and I think you’re going to love it.”
She
expelled
a short naughty laugh and pushed off him. Leaping feet over head, she darted quickly down the corridor.
Ah, my queen can run.
“Rebecca, you don’t know where you’re going,” he called aft
er her.
Chuckling
, he gave her a head start before he went
to
mid-transformation.
Three breaths in, one long horny push out
.
There was no way his beast would stay in the background when she ran, and Rebecca knew it. “Little redheaded lamb,” he howled a warning, “you’ve given me no choice.”
Feminine laughter tickled his ears, dancing ahead through the
dim
corridor.
