“Yo, you know who the fuck these niggas are in back of us?” I tell him I'm certain that they're some of Jasper's goonies. “Oh, word? Is that how that snake muhfucka wanna do it? He really wanna be on this dumb shit. Aiight, bet.”
He hits a button on the steering wheel. Within seconds, the sound of a ringing phone is coming through the speakers. “What's good?” the deep, raspy voice on the other end says.
“Yo, real shit. I gotta heavy situation on my ass. Muhfuckas floorin' a nigga wit' heat. I'ma need you to roll out the tank, and be ready in case I can't neutralize the situation.”
“Where you at now?”
“I'm getting off exit one-thirty-one on the GSP as we speak. But these niggas are really tryna serve a muhfucka up.”
Another round of shots are fired, hitting the back window. I jump. Despite knowing Lamar's truck is bulletproof, my nerves are still rattled. And the only thing I can think about at this very
moment is my son, Jaylen. I have to be on the plane in the morning. I have to get to L.A. to see his smiling face and hold him in my arms. So there is no fucking way I'm letting Jasper or any of his goons take me down without a damn fight.
I pull out my phone, making a call. “You crazy motherfucker!” I scream into the receiver the minute Jasper answers. “Call off your motherfucking goons, now, or so help me God you're going to regret the day you were born!”
“Yo, you wanna rock wit' the big boys, right? Yo wanna turn it up in court, right? I tol' ya dumb-ass not to fuck wit' me, but you stay testin' a muhfucka, Pasha. So, what you fuckin' that clown-ass nigga, now? Or suckâ”
“Motherfucker, fuck you! You wanna play dirty, nigga? Then let me show you how a dirty bitch does it! See what happens next!” I end the call.
“Aiight, listen,” the voice coming through the speakers says. “Handle ya handle. Lure 'em to the spot if you need to. And we'll take care of the rest.”
The line goes dead.
Lamar tells me to reach under his seat and grab his Glock.
“Listen. I'ma need you to take the wheel, aiight? While I handle these muhfuckas right quick.”
I blink. This nigga is already going over 110 miles per hour. And he wants
me
to take the wheel. Is he fucking serious?
Take the wheel? I don't think so.
It's bad enough I'm on the parkway caught up in a high-speed chase with niggas shooting at us. But there's no time to think, or to be scared. This is a do-or-motherfucking-die situation. And I'm not trying to die. Not tonight. Not with a pair of wet, soggy panties on and a coat of cock cream stained on my lips.
“No,” I tell him, climbing over into the backseat, gripping his gun tightly in my hand. “You keep driving. I'll handle the niggas in back of us. Tell me what you need me to do.”
He instructs me to push in the release button to the backseats, then lay them flat. I do. “Now crawl into the cargo space and in the middle of the door, there's a lever. I need you to push it in, then slide the panel to the right.” I am surprised when I slide the panel back and it creates an opening I can see out of. “Now, aim for them muhfuckas' tires.”
There are no limits to how far a pissed-off, vengeful bitch will goâ¦
“O
hmygod,
noo!”
Greta shrieks, her eyes widen and a hand flies up over her mouth as I give her the rundown on the latest turn of events. The first being how Jasper turned it out in court, followed by the uncovering of who one of my kidnappers were, then ending with last night's shootout fiasco. She shakes her head. “This is all too much to digest. You literally have my head spinning.”
“Then try imagining what this shit's been like for me these last few days. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, three damn days of nonstop drama. I'm fucking drained.” I take a deep breath. “You don't know how relieved I was to board that flight this morning to get here and getting the fuck out of Jersey for a hot minute.”
I pull in my bottom lip to keep it from quivering. Replaying everything in the last several days, then rewinding back to the shit that popped off the week before that has me feeling emotionally drained. I just want this shit over with. But it won't be. Not until, untilâ¦
“Greta, the shit I have been through in the last two weeks⦔ My voice trails off. I close my eyes, taking a moment to get my thoughts together. I fight back tears. Push back anger. I take three deep breaths, then lift my eyelids and meet the worried look in
Greta's eyes.
“I can't believe this shit. Are you for certain it was Jasper? I mean, is he
really
crazy enough to have niggas shooting at you two weeks in a row?”
“Oh, that nigga's good and goddamn crazy.” I rock Jaylen, rubbing his back. He's sound asleep in my arms. I pull him into my chest tighter. Breathe him in. “Believe it. I'm positive it was that sonofabitch. When I called screaming on his ass, he didn't deny it. In fact, he practically admitted to it. The nigga was almost gloating. At least that's what it sounded like. So I know, without a doubt, that he had niggas from his goon squad chasing us down the Garden State Parkway like nobody's damn business intent on trying to kill me last night.” She wants to know what happened to them. “Oh, them grimy motherfuckers got
got.
Let me tell you⦔
I share with her how I'd crawled into the cargo space, pointed Lamar's gun out of the hidden slide in the cargo door, then aimed at that SUV, pulling the trigger. It had taken me seven shots and being tossed around in the back as Lamar zigzagged from one lane to the other before I was finally able to hit the front passenger wheel, causing the truck to swerve off the highway and collide down into a ditch.
Everything was happening so fast. One minute I'm sucking the nut out of Lamar's dick, the next minute I'm shooting his gun. There was no time to think. No time to be afraid. My adrenaline pumped fast and heavy through my veins.
My life was on the line.
Soon after the SUV careened off the side of the road, Lamar slammed on the brakes, threw the truck in reverse, then sped backward on the shoulder of the road. He slammed on the brakes, released his seatbelt, then reached over into the glove compartment and pulled out another gun.
“Stay here,” he commanded, swinging open his door, then darted toward the disabled vehicle with two loaded guns in both hands. The only thing I kept thinking as I watched him running was, the police are going to arrest my ass. I'm going to prison. Everything I've worked hard forâ¦gone! My salon, gone! My son, gone! My life, over!
And Jasper's black ass still roams free.
I quickly hopped out of the truck, leaving the engine running, and ran in the direction of the firing gunshots, still clutching Lamar's gun in my right hand. I was scared shitless, but relieved that it was pitch dark and there were no police cars in sight yet. But I knew it was only a matter of time before they'd be swarming all over the place.
By the time I reached Lamar, he was firing continuously, mercilessly unloading his weapons upon our attackers. In a matter of minutes, the situation was handled. Three masked gunmen and a driverâ¦dead.
Half of one nigga's face was blown off.
“C'mon, we gotta get the fuck outta here, now!”
He yanked me by the arm, and practically dragged me behind him back to his truck. We both hopped into the vehicle. Then Lamar sped off like a crazed man before I was able to slam my door shut.
Lamar banged his hand on the steering wheel. “Fuck, yo! That nigga gotta get dropped, Pasha.
Now!
That muthafucka's really pissin' me off. I know you got ya own agenda ân' shit, but that nigga fuckin' wit' me now. And I ain't 'bout this dumb shit. On my muthafuckin' word, yo. That nigga got it comingâ¦!”
Sweat poured from face. My heart was beating so hard that I thought I would have dropped dead from a heart attack in any second. My hands shook.
He pressed the button on his steering wheel, and less than a second later, a phone rang through the speakers. “Yo, you good?”
“Yeah,” Lamar stated, turning off at the next exit. “Punk-ass muhfuckas, clipped me, but I'm good.” He let out a chuckle. “Can't say the same for them, pussy-ass niggas. There's a major spill on the side of the road.”
I blinked.
Clipped him? Ohmygod, he's been shot!
I wanted so desperately to turn on the interior lights to see, but knew it was an unwise decision.
“Fuck 'em. You know who those roaches were?”
Lamar glanced over at me. I stared back at him. He must have read the look in my eyes, begging him, to not rob me of my moment.
He sighed, shaking his head. “Nah. But I'ma need a crew on lock ân' ready for some street sweepin' real soon.”
“Whatever you need.” The call ended.
“Ohmygod! You were shot?” I asked, genuinely concerned. All Lamar had ever been hired to do was to provide extra security for my salon after someone had smashed out the front window in broad daylight with a large pipe. And some silly-ass nigga named AJâegged on by the same motherfucker who attacked me out in my yard in the middle of the nightâcame into the salon and aired out my dick-sucking ways in front of a shop full of clients, grabbing his dick and asking for one of my deep throat specials. My indiscretions had slowly caught up to me.
And now Lamar was going above and beyond the call of duty, putting his own life on the line to protect mine. Someone else had gotten into my fight. Thanks to Jasper's fucking ass!
He glanced over at me. “No sweat.” He shrugged. “I'll live. “It's a lil' flesh wound.” One bullet grazed his shoulder.
I gasped. “You could have been killed.”
“Hey, it comes wit' the territory.” He caught the worried look
on my face. Then smiled, trying to lighten the situation. “Them punk-ass niggas had lousy aim.” He hit his chest. “Besides, I got the body armor on lock. But if I ever gotta die, I have no problem dyin' for a worthy cause. I'd take a bullet or two for you, any day.”
He winked at me.
And, despite being shot at and almost run off the road, I couldn't help but smile.
I was touchedâ¦deeply. I reached over and stroked his cheek, then leaned over and kissed him on it. “I'm so sorry about all of this. I know you didn't sign up for any of this crazy shit.”
“Nah, Pasha, you good, ma. This is
exactly
what I signed up for. I tol' you what it was two weeks ago when you were in ya office wit' ya peeps. I already knew what it was wit' you and that nigga. I said I got you. And that's what it is. No matter what it is. But, word is bond, Pasha. Make no mistake. That nigga's gotta go.”
I nodded, glancing at the time. It was almost one o'clock in the morning. My flight was in five hours, and mind was racing a thousand miles a minute. Getting sleep was the last thing I'd be able to do.
“I know. Soon.”
“Not soon enough. But it's all good. That nigga ain't rockin' no boats this way.” He took his eyes off the road and eyed me. “Real spit, I'ma be the one to help you seal that nigga's shit.”
I dug into my bag and pulled out a pen and small notepad. Then I scrolled through the
MEMO
app on my phone and jotted down three addresses. I folded the paper in half, then handed it to him. “I'm leaving for L.A. in the morning to spend time with my son⦔ He wanted to know who was driving me to the airport. I told him Mel was. Then stated, “While I'm gone, I need you to handle these spots for me. Given what happened last week, he's probably got them all manned up with lots of firepower.”
He kept his eyes locked on the road ahead, seemingly unfazed. “Them muhfuckas not built to fuck wit' my team. Same scenario?”
“Yeah. Then burn 'em down to the ground.”
By the time I finish telling Greta everythingâwell, um, except the parts about me dick-swabbing a computer geek for information on one of my assailants, giving Lamar road head, and having him burn down another three of Jasper's stash housesâall of the blood from her face has drained.
“My, God!” she exclaims, collapsing backward, sinking into the plush leather chair.
“Un
fuckingbelievable. Thank God, you weren't driving alone. There's no telling how it woulda played out. This shit sounds like something straight out of a damn movie. That nigga really wants to kill you.”
I sigh, relieved that I finally listened to Lamar, letting him and Mel drive me wherever I need to go. “Or scare the shit out of me. Either way, I'm not going to let him get the best of me. The days of Jasper fucking controlling me are over.”
She smiles warily at me, her eyes wet with tears. “And that's what's probably driving him crazier than what he already is.”
“Mmmph. Crazy or not. I'm done. One of these days, trust. Jasper's going to be put down like the rabid animal he is.”
“I'm just glad you're all right.”
“Yeah, tell me about it. So am I.” I shake my head. “And then the shit with Cassandra⦔
I fill in the details. Leaving out,
of course,
how I had a moment of sluttiness and started lusting over Jah'Mel's dick.
“For the love of God!” she says, leaning forward and holding her forehead in her hands. She takes several deep breaths, then slowly lifts her head from her hands, looking up at me. “Can this shit get any more crazier than this.”
Girl, if you only knewâ¦
I stand, excusing myself so I can lie Jaylen down. Once I get him settled in his bed, I go into my room, then unzip the inside storage compartment of my carry-on, pulling out a burner phone. I fish through the side compartment of my handbag. I frown when I can't find what I'm looking for.
Now where the hell did I put that thing? I know I brought it with me.
I keep searching until I locate the phone device I need, then plug it into the cell's headset jack. I adjust the settings, pulling out a sheet of paper with the information I need written on it.
