Chapter 1

Kelsey Heely raised her margarita high in the air and smiled at her friends. Today was the first day of the rest of her successful life, with commencements over and a plane ticket to sunny California in her purse. What took most 6 years to achieve, a MBA from Harvard, had only taken Kelsey a little over 4, taking double courses and bust her butt straight through her summer breaks. Her father’s influence in the world of business had a slight impact as well, but for the most part she had only herself to thank at graduation. Now she leaves the cold of the north in the morning, headed for a position with one of the most respected electronics companies in Silicon Valley and the future looks bright.

“To the past successes and future explorations.” She grinned, beaming with pride.

The others raised their glasses to second the toast and laughed. Her phone began to buzz wildly in her pocket and she glanced at the call.
Oh crap its dad
. She frowned and excused herself to step outside away from the noisy bar. Exiting quickly she flipped open the phone and answered, her father’s deep voice filling the line in her ear.

“Congratulations sweet heart,” He sounded distracted, “I’m sorry I couldn’t make it up there today. How was the ceremony?”

“It went well.” She sighed and rolled her eyes, “I’m out celebrating what’s up?”

“Oh I wanted to tell you the news,” He shouted over the screaming of jets behind him, hinting he was at an airport, “I finally tied the knot with Elena, down here in Vegas.”

“You eloped dad, really?” Kelsey laughed.

“Yes we wanted to save the money for a trip instead of paying for another fancy wedding,” He explained, “So listen. How would you like to join us on the adventure?”

“I don’t know dad,” She quickly thought up an excuse, “I am about to start this new position and I still haven’t even gotten settled into my new apartment.”

Kelsey’s father Daemon was now on wife number 3 and the thrill had passed for Kelsey in her father’s female ventures. Though she didn’t begin the new job for another 3 weeks, she had her hopes set on doing some shopping in the Hollywood hills and working on her tan in the meantime. The idea of being cooped up somewhere with her father and Elena was not her best way to spend her first vacation in four years, not that she had anything against the woman she just hadn’t bothered to get to know her well.
She won’t be around long anyway knowing dad.
There was a long pause and her father laughed, then gave a long sigh.

“Well then,” He knew her weakness; “I guess you won’t be able to find the time to head on a shopping trip to Paris then?”

Kelsey’s eyes widened. She loved fashion, anything and everything to do with the latest trends and she knew about it. It was her passion and hobby, more of an obsession her friends would say. She had subscriptions to all the top rated magazines like Vogue and read each one from cover to cover each month, spending what little free time she had managed shopping and hunting online for the latest bargains on designer clothing. Her father, a highly successful businessman, had kept her well-stocked in funds during school to assure she could concentrate on her studies without the hassle of a part-time job, which she had used to update her wardrobe each season. Now the chance to shop in the hub of the world’s fashion world was too much to resist.

“I guess the apartment can wait a little longer,” She squeaked, “When do we leave?”

“I’ll arrange to have you flown from California, since I know you’re already headed there in the morning anyway. We will meet you at the airport there and head out together. Gather whatever you intend on taking and let’s say Tuesday at 10 am be at the south corridor for overseas flights?” Her father whispered something to a person standing nearby.

Kelsey grinned and said her goodbyes, rejoining her friends inside for the evening. Her face looked flushed as she approached the table. Her best friend Alma looked concerned.

“Everything ok Kelsey?” She sipped her drink.

“I’m going to Paris!” She shouted loudly and jumped up and down with excitement.

She parted ways with her dear friends, a few hugs and tears with promises to call and headed back to her stuffy dorm room. Glancing around at the empty walls and cleared desk she sighed. I am not going to miss this place. She flopped down on the bed and gazed up at the ceiling, letting the feeling of happiness flood through her. Not only had she finally graduated and was beginning a new life in a warmer climate, but now she was celebrating it with a trip to Europe, which meant some of the greatest shopping adventures of her young life. It’s a shame it took her father marrying again to get her there, but no matter, she didn’t place much value on the whole idea of love and marriage anyway. After the death of her mother when she was very young, her father bounced from female to female and didn’t seem to be very selective in his choices either. First there was that woman with the dogs she didn’t like when Kelsey was in high school, followed by at least a dozen more before she had even graduated.

If she had learned anything from the whole experience is was that love, is a fiction feeling made up by couples to explain why they wanted one another. It hadn’t lasted forever in any relationship she had ever witnessed her entire 22 years on the planet and couldn’t see this one proving her wrong either. Elena was a nice woman, but she and her father had nothing in common. She was raised in a poor family in New Mexico and had little education, though she was definitely beautiful for her age.
I give it a year
. She smiled and rolled over, too excited to sleep and yet exhausted from the hectic events of her final week in school. She gazed up at the starlit sky from her dorm room bed and sighed, daydreaming about what it would be like to walk the streets of Paris. Her cell phone buzzed once more and she rose to check the message. It was another from her father.

“I almost forgot to mention this,” It read, “But Elena’s son will be joining us as well. He’s about your age and a Navy Seal. Try to get along sweetie he’s your new step-brother.”

Kelsey set the phone back down on her empty desk, rolling her eyes and scoffing. This was the first woman her father had dated in a long time that had children of her own, learning his mistakes over the years dating single mothers. At least this one is grown up. She frowned deeper and drifted off into sleep, with dreams of her upcoming venture in the fashion world swimming in her head. She had an early flight to California and now a rush to get some things packed and head back to the airport the following day.

Chapter 2

Traffic to the airport terminal was terrible, as Kelsey finally located a spot and headed into the south entrance to meet her father and his new Elena. She was dragging along some of her latest fashions, in hopes of impressing the natives, and attempted to manage the carry on and three bags of luggage as she darting around the bustling crowds. Her father stood by the entrance to his private field, arm wrapped proudly around his beautiful new wife and waved as she finally approached, huffing from the weight of her things. She smiled politely at Elena and rushed to give her father a warm hug.

“Oh there’s my beautiful girl,” He stepped back to glance at her, “Look stunning as ever.”

Kelsey was as beautiful as one could imagine, with long flowing blonde hair and deep crystal blue eyes she was a spitting image of her mother. The passes and dinner date invitations were non-stop, but Kelsey gave little attention to men or their usual tricks to get her in bed. She had her mind on the future and her success carrying on her father’s footsteps. There was no time for dates, or men and especially not for love, in her busy life. She glanced at her father’s private jet out the window, ready and waiting to fly her off to Paris and smiled even wider. Elena touched her arm gentle and in her usual soft voice pointed to a man standing near the ticket counter, dressed in a lavish uniform. He waved and jogged over to the group. Kelsey stood stunned as the handsome, sexy young man approached. His eyes shimmered an ocean blue and his blue hair was cut stern and neatly for his position in the Navy Seals. She could feel her heart racing wildly and the lust building as he smiled her way with a set of perfect, pearly white teeth.

“Kelsey this is my son Matt,” Elena hugged him tightly, “He will be joining us.”

Kelsey watched hungrily as he lifted his mother into the air with his bulging muscles and laughed. His voice was low and deep like her fathers. He turned and held out a hand to her. The moment they touched for a shake, Kelsey felt a jolt run through her body at the feel of his strong, yet soft, touch. She flushed, but held her composure.

“Nice to meet you I’m Kelsey.” She attempted to be cool and polite but the desire was clear to her in her voice.

“I know,” He flashed a wicked grin, “I’ve heard a lot about you. Though no one told me how stunning you were.”

“She’s a spitting image of her mother, rest her soul.” Her father chimed in, eyeing Matt suspiciously and knowing full well that look in his eye from his own ventures.

The four headed for the jet, Kelsey large bags now being touted by a worker on a large cart, and boarded the plane. As a successful man of business, her father traveled often both in the states and overseas, finally his company purchased a jet for business purposes. It appeared that on this trip he had elected to show a little abuse of power and take the jet for his own honeymoon venture instead. The inside of the jet reminded her more of a hotel lobby than an airplane, with wide open space and several arm chairs equipped with safety belts. The chairs were red velvet, matching the carpeting below perfectly. At the back of the room sat a mini bar and desk, ending with a sign for the bathrooms and flight attendants on board. A young woman approached as they entered, and guided her to her seat, directly across from Matt. She nervously placed her carry on above her head and sat down with a sigh, glancing out the circular window with a frown. Kelsey wasn’t afraid of flying, but she was petrified of heights. Soon Matt joined her and settled himself in, the devilish grin still spread upon his face.
This will be my best conquest yet.
He thought to himself, eyeing the blonde beauty across from him. The flight attendant began her usual instructions, pointing to the emergency exits and teaching her how to fasten a seat belt, then came around once more to offer drinks before the plane took off on its long flight. Kelsey ordered herself a stiff drink, she knew she would be needing it to deal with this handsome man already eyeing her like a piece of meat.

Once in the air, her father was distracted, chatting away with Elena and laughing loudly. Matt leaned in and smiled, glaring directly into Kelsey’s eyes.

“So,” He laughed, “Daemon tells me you’re a business woman. Following in the old man’s footsteps I assume?”

“That’s right,” Kelsey folded her legs and returned the glare, holding her head up proudly, “I’ve just graduated and already have an offer with a company in Silicon Valley, which I begin when we return home. And you’re what, a Navy Seal?”

“Yep,” He glanced at his uniform, the metals shining in the sun beaming through the airplane’s small windows, “I will be stationed in California now after spending a few rotations overseas. One of the best in my group if I do say so myself.”

Kelsey couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the display of manhood he was trying to pull on her. She could read him like an open book, the typical bad boy army brat. She had dealt with many of his kind over the years, as they paraded themselves around the local bars on leave, hoping to catch a naïve, beautiful woman off guard for entertainment that night. Matt, though more gorgeous than any she had ever encounter, was turning out to be no exception to her stereotype. He excused himself to change and Kelsey gave a sigh for the momentary relief as the tension between them was overwhelming
. I have to stay strong
. She coached herself as he passed.
Don’t let this male get to you
. Matt headed for the restrooms, carry-on bag in hand and with a polite nod to the stewardess headed inside. He slumped down on the short countertop a moment and laughed out loud.
This one is resisting me
. He pondered.
She’s playing hard to get.
Matt had thought the trip with his mother and her new man was going to be a complete bore, but now he had something to look forward to playing cat and mouse with the luscious woman he had met. He slipped off his uniform carefully and hung it on a hanger beside him, his muscles gleaming in the white florescent lights of the small room.

Kelsey eyed him as she returned to his seat, now wearing street clothes. His tight black t-shirt outlined every muscle in his solid chest, pinching around the budging arms at his shoulders. Her heart raced once more with desire. Matt plopped down in the velvet chair and grinned at her, watching her reaction to him hungrily. She knew she wanted him, but for whatever reason was resisting. He laughed to himself at the challenge, but knew in the end he would win as always. As the flight wore on she found her eyes getting heavy and soon nodded off into a fitful sleep as the airplane dipped and bounced along the wind currents over the ocean. She awoke just as the attendant announced their arrival to the airport.

“Thank you ladies and gentlemen,” She called out in a chipper voice, “We will be landing in Germany momentarily. Please put on your seatbelts and secure all loose items.”

Germany?
Kelsey eyed her father suspiciously.

“Dad you told me we were headed to Paris,” Kelsey shouted over to him from her seat.

“We are dear,” He smiled, “But first we are spending a week in the luxurious Hotel Castle Liebenstein in Germany. It’s their medieval festival so should be a week of old world fun and games.”

Kelsey eyed Matt who was on the verge of laughing from her reaction to the news.
Fun and games is right.
Kelsey growled to herself. Her father had neglected to mention that they would be touring some other parts of Europe during their venture, but no matter, she would try to make the best of it. Once the group exited the plane, a car stood waiting to drive them along the rolling hills of the countryside to their destination. She admired the beauty of the lush greens around her from the passenger’s seat, while Matt continued to admire her from inside. The castle was enormous, like nothing she had ever seen save maybe a history book. The hotel was build right into an authentic medieval castle that sat nestled high above the ground, overlooking a wide river below. She stared high up to the towers gleaming in the afternoon sun and the moss covered cobblestone that held its thick walls upright. In the lobby she felt as if she had walked back through time and couldn’t help but smile at the primitive, yet fashionable decor. Her father spoke with the hotel manager, shaking his hand in a business-like fashion as always and soon joined the others with room keys in hand. He grinned at Kelsey and handed her a suite key.

“Welcome,” The lobby hostess smiled politely, “The bell hop is taking your luggage to your room. Your father has reserved you the tower suite, with the most breathtaking view of the sunrise and land surrounding us that you could possibly witness. Enjoy your stay.”

Kelsey headed up the winding staircase, passed by men and woman dressed in old-fashioned costumes. They smiled and greeted her heartily in old world tongue and she grinned. Perhaps this will be a little exciting. After some time she finally located the room and stepped inside, gaping in awe. Along the far wall stood a tall, wooden four-post bed garnished with soft velvet pillows and thick comforters. On the opposite, a four-chair table with old-fashioned seating that looked fit for a king. She leaned into the curved window and glanced outward at the view. From her high up vantage she could see for miles, noting the small village and other relic shells of castles that dotting the landscape. The aroma of fresh ivy and other scents wafted into the room and she took a long breath. It was stunning to say the least.
