“No fair.”

“You started it.” Running his fingers back
and forth, deliberately steering clear of the tight little button
of nerves she so desperately needed him to touch, he laughed deep
in his chest. “So hot. I feel you trembling from my touch. Should I
take you over that edge, baby?”

Her entire body caught fire and she arched
against him. She whimpered as he took full control. He used two
fingers to play with her, tease her entrance, ease in an inch and
then withdraw. “Yes. Oh God, Spencer. You're so mean.”

“Is this what you want?” He thrust those
wicked fingers deep into her quivering pussy. Kat's toes curled and
her knees wobbled, threatening to drop her any second. He was
relentless and pulled his fingers out, only to thrust them back in.
With his thumb, he flicked her clit.

This time her knees did give out. If Spencer
hadn't caught her, she would have melted into a puddle right there.
He didn't even slow his finger-fucking, his delicious touch
building her into what would be an explosive orgasm.

Writhing from the surges of passion he pulled
from her with every strum of his thumb, he brought her close to
coming. The tension coiling around her womb had her panting for
release.

Stroking him with more fervent need, she
hoped she gave as good as she received. He swelled in her hand, and
had to be close to coming as well.

“Kathryn,” he growled and captured her
mouth.

He kissed her hard until she saw spots
dotting her vision, then he reached down and grasped her hand to
remove it. In the next motion, he lifted and then lowered her,
sinking his engorged penis deep inside her. Shuddering, he lifted
her and plunged into her again.

“Again!” she cried.

He ground into her, rooting them together as
one. Burying his cock in her, slamming their bodies together, the
tension inside her snapped like a taut cable.

She cried out as she came, the way he slapped
against her sensitive clit enough to drive her over the edge. He
continued to piston drive in and out of her slick heat and
stiffened suddenly, pumping his seed into her. Half-hollering,
half-laughing, he continued to grind against her, releasing every
last drop of semen.

Slowly finding purchase back on the floor,
Kat's knees wobbled, but held her. Spencer leaned down and kissed
her soundly, brushing his lips over hers, parting them with his
tongue. They spent several luscious minutes kissing, exploring each
other's mouths.

He gave her a harsh growl as he raked his
teeth across her lower lip, finally breaking their contact. Looking
at him, she licked him off her lips. He watched the gesture with
keen interest.

“I'm going to need another shower now,” she
told him and wiggled her brow.

“Me, too.”

“What time do you have to meet your
boss?”

His eyes, still dark and clouded with carnal
hunger, moved over her. “When I get there.”

Her heart leapt and thudded in her ears. He'd
never put her before work. Could the surly agent be turning over a
new leaf? Kat decided to take advantage of his change.

She wrapped her fingers around his semi-hard
cock. He was hot and slippery with the combination of both their
lubricating syrup, and had already started to harden again. The
walls of her sex vibrated, anxious to accept him once more.

His eyes widened when she caressed his
rapidly swelling cock, clearly surprised at her boldness. Hell, she
was just as surprised.

Kat had learned this past year that life was
too short to be shy. She didn't want to be the timid, quiet lover
she'd been in the past. She wanted more, and she wanted this man to
show her everything she'd missed.

She'd never, ever made love in a sitting
position, as they did last night. And just now? She wasn't even
touching the ground as he drove her into a wild orgasm that still
had the walls of her entrance trembling in its aftermath. Another
first.

“I want you back inside me.”

“You are turning into quite the naughty
girl,” His eyes glimmered in playful mischief. “I like it.”

Her body demanded more attention, her moist
channel aching to be filled again. It drove her focus. She gently
glided her hand up and down his now erect penis. It throbbed in her
palm, engorged, and almost purple from the blood pulsing through
it.

Wanting to try everything she'd never
experienced, she eyed the shower. Sweeping her gaze back to
Spencer, she smiled. “Want to get wet?”

His grin widened. “Absolutely.”

FOURTEEN

Spencer ran his fingers through his hair one
last time before knocking on Weber's door. He dreaded walking into
the office. Once he did, he'd have to give up the only other thing
aside from Kathryn that made any sense in his life.

His career.

“Come.”

With a deep breath to calm his tired nerves,
Spencer opened the door. The office seemed warmer than normal.
Didn't the air conditioning work in this room? It didn't matter. He
wouldn't be here long enough to break a sweat.

Weber sat perched in his chair behind the
desk. When Spencer closed the door behind him, the SAC didn't even
bother to look up. “Don't you smell nice? Just like, what was it?
Oh, a flower.”

God
damn
it. He'd heard that?
“Funny.”

“Sit.”

Spencer didn't want to sit, and after burying
himself inside Kathryn in the shower, and then again as she bent
over the sink, he didn't know if he could. Instead he remained
standing and crossed his arms over his chest when Weber finally
looked at him.

He set his pen down and folded his hands in
front of him as he narrowed his eyes. “Do you have trouble with
even the simplest of orders, Allen?”

“No, sir.” Spencer tensed but forced himself
to relax. A muscle in his jaw started to tick angrily
regardless.

“Apparently, you do.”

“Sir, if this is about my being at Kathryn's
last night,” he started, but stopped when Weber's eyes hardened.
Son of a bitch. He knew better than to begin the conversation.

“You've been there since last night, huh?
What, did you run over there right after our talk? You just
couldn't wait to throw your career away, could you?”

Spencer simply looked at him, the rage
bubbling inside him spiking his blood pressure. He didn't want to
lose his job, but he didn't want to lose Kathryn more. He could
always find another job. He'd never be able to replace her.

Weber didn't look away. “May I ask why?”

“No you may not.”

“Excuse me?”

“It isn't any of your goddamn business why I
went over there.” Enough was enough. If Weber had called Spencer
back to turn in his gear, then he should just get it over with
already. Why prolong the torture with another lectures?

“I've got a pretty good idea.” Weber stood.
Spencer watched him as he walked over to the wall behind his desk.
He stopped to study one of the pictures, his hands folded behind
his back. “Do you see any photos on this wall of you and me
together?”

Spencer frowned. What the hell did that have
to do with the price of tea in China? “Not that I can see,
sir.”

He turned and met Spencer's eyes. “Because
there aren't any. And do you know why?” Spencer didn't answer.
“I'll tell you why. Because you like to buck the system, that's
why. It's like you take every fucking order I give you as a dare to
do the exact opposite.”

Jesus. He sounded just like Spencer's
father.

The veins on the Weber's neck visibly
throbbed. “I told you to stay away from her.”

Spencer doubled up his fists as he fought to
control his temper, the fury beating in him like an angry drum.
This was such bullshit. “I did what I had to do.”

Weber walked back over and slumped into his
plushy chair behind his desk. “And you are willing to give up your
career for her?”

“I'm willing to give up everything for her.”
Saying it aloud made it all that more real. It was a conviction
that stemmed from his soul.

“Jesus Christ.” Weber rubbed his eyes. “You
do realize that means Snyder will take over your team? Do you
really trust that he'll be able to handle it?”

“He can do it. He's a good man.”

“So you're okay with me giving him your
boys?”

Spencer stopped himself from thrusting his
fingers through his hair. “Hell no, but you aren't giving me much
of a choice.”

Weber jumped up. He slammed his hands onto
his desk, his face crimson. Spencer tensed from the sudden rage. “I
gave you a fucking choice! It was
your
choice to go against
a direct order. It was
your
choice to throw away your
career. I can't just look past this, Spence. I told you what would
happen if you started back up with her.”

“This is re-goddamn-diculous.” Spencer folded
his arms and drummed his fingers on his biceps to do something with
his hands and not put a fist through the wall. Or worse, his SAC.
“Kathryn and I are two consenting adults.”

“Oh sure, and you have it all under control
as I recall you saying. You didn't have it under control last time
so why should I believe this time to be any different?”

“It just is.”

“At least the Miller search ended better than
the Haynes search so she won't be blamed for something she didn't
do this time. Wouldn't you agree?”

Holy Christ. Not that search again. Spencer
sighed and pinched the skin between his eyes to ward off the
headache creeping in. Nothing ever changed. For a year he'd
defended his actions on the Haynes search, lying through his
orthodontically straightened teeth. The guilt ate at him like a
cancer. Not a day went by that he didn't regret what he did on that
search, and what he'd allowed Kathryn to believe she'd done.

And didn't do.

He'd had to live with that every fucking day,
knowing he could have simply told her the truth. Instead, he lied.
He lied and she left him because of it.

Spencer rested his gaze on Weber. Although
fury still dominated his emotions, a slight sliver of hope crept
in. His SAC hadn't asked for his resignation. “Why did you really
call me in?”

“You know why.” Although Weber spoke in his
typical gruff voice, something else settled in his tone. Was that
concern? Relief? Spencer could usually read the man, but right now
his expression didn't give shit away.

“If you wanted to fire me you would have done
it by now. You aren't the kind of man to beat around the bush.”

Weber leaned back in his chair and studied
Spencer for several seconds, but didn't deny Spencer's conclusion.
“You and I both know what really happened at the Haynes Search. You
were under orders, Allen. We all were. Did that man have to die?
Yes. Did she have to take his death personally? No. You could have
prevented that.”

“You are oversimplifying things.”

“Am I? Tell me something. Was that search the
reason why K-SAR refused to work with us for so long? Did Kat know
the truth?”

“No.” Spencer left it at that. She refused to
work with TREX because of him. Not that search.

He
knew it.

She
knew it.

Yet another thing he had riding on his
conscience day in and day out.

Weber shook his head. “So why then did you
let her believe she'd caused that man's death?”

“It wouldn't have made a difference on the
outcome.”

“Bullshit. You could have told her. She would
have at least known the real reason you redirected the search.
Instead, you chose silence and she chose to walk. Yet now here we
are.”

Spencer shook with suppressed rage as he
swallowed down the guilt clawing at him. God
damn
Weber for
finding the wound and pouring salt into it.

“Just tell me why, and don't feed me any
bullshit about not making a difference on the outcome, Allen.
What's really going on here?”

Spencer took a sudden interest in the paint
coming off the trim on the wall to his left. He didn't need a
lecture from this man or anyone else. “I already gave you my
answer.”

Weber sighed long and hard. “You really are a
tight-lipped son of a bitch sometimes, you know that?” The silence
between them filled the room. After several seconds, Weber finally
spoke again. “You could have made something up.”

And risk Kathryn seeing right through him? No
fucking way. He'd be in even more trouble than he already was. “I
had my reasons.”

“I sure hope those reasons were worth
it.”

Spencer finally met his eyes. “What do you
want from me, Weber?”

“I want you to stay the hell away from her.
I'm not saying this as your boss. I'm saying this as someone who
doesn't want to see one of his best lose it all. You've worked your
ass off to get where you are. Don't let a woman take that from
you.”

His frustration edged higher. “Not that I
expect you to understand, but I have a chance at some level of
happiness here. I deserve it and I'm taking it.”

“And when she finds out the truth behind that
search? Don't give me that look, Allen. The longer you play house
with her, the closer she's going to get to the truth. What happens
then?”

She'll never discover the truth behind that
search. Spencer would see to it. “Then we move on.”

“Are you fucking serious? Only an idiot would
think that and I know you're not an idiot.” Weber shook his head as
he shot Spencer an incredulous look. “She'll never forgive you and
you know it. Save yourself time and just let this go. You screwed
your chance with her when you let her take the fall for that
search. Do you really think you deserve another one?”

Spencer swore, the fury almost choking him,
as darkness swirled deep in his soul. He didn't want to believe
those words, but damn if they didn't hit home. Son of a bitch. The
weight slammed into him so hard his breath hitched. The truth hurt.
Fuck how it hurt. He'd tried so hard to ignore it, deny it, pretend
it didn't exist, all to convince himself that he deserved another
chance.
