She’d been gone only seconds when Samael glared at him. “You,
my friend, are fucked the minute Ramiel hears about this.” Sam riveted his
attention back to his TV. “Game time, get the hell out.”

Uri glimmered out of sight. You didn’t mess with Death and
his football game.

He streaked toward his home in the bowels of Earth.

* * * * *

His plan worked better than he’d imagined. The sun had yet
to set, so there would be more time to prepare for Morta’s visit. The home he
spent most of his time in had almost been restored to its former beauty and he
couldn’t wait for her to see it. It was bad enough God forced him to reside
beneath the earth’s crust in Hell to keep an eye on Lucifer, but to leave him
so alone made it even worse. A huge brass bed sat in the alcove. Plush pillows
mounded at the headboard and soft Egyptian cotton sheets would feel good
against their naked bodies. He had yet to use his bed, refusing to sleep in it
until Morta lay beside him. He wanted their first time in his home to be
perfect. Thousands of candles twinkled and reflected off the crystal walls. Her
porcelain skin would glisten under the soft glow. Flames licked at wood in a
fireplace that gave the space just the right touch of warmth.

Without turning, he knew exactly when she arrived, because
the room brightened. “Thank you for coming.” Morta took his breath away. Her
violet eyes flashed. Luscious lips quivered in anger and made him want her all
the more.

“Enough with your game, Uri. When do I get the child’s
soul?”

“When I get you.”

“That will never happen. You may have my body, but you will
never have me,” Morta grated between clenched teeth. “I hate you for this.”

“Your anger will only make it more exciting for us. Come
here.”

“Screw you.”

This wasn’t going to be easy. “Why must you fight me at
every turn?” He strode to where she stood. Lifting her in his arms, he carried
Morta to his bed and dropped her to her feet. “You’re mine.”

“I’ll never be yours.” She shivered against him.

Hah! Morta was weak with desire. Her scent assailed his
nostrils and he breathed it deeply. His penis shoved hard against his zipper. “Then
I will have to be satisfied with what I
can
have.” Uri had run out of
patience. “Undress, Morta. Don’t make me do it for you.” His eyes roamed her
body, “You might like it.”

Anger and lust filled his voice. If Morta continued to fight
him, how far would Uri go? She had already lost this battle. Liquid dripped
from her core at the idea of having him inside her. He could make her clothes
vanish with a thought, so why did he play with her? She remembered mind fucking
him years ago in Michael’s study. How hard he’d come in his pants when she let
him feel the tightness of her pussy. She had given him the vision of being in
her ass and he exploded. And their scene at the club. His hand brought her to
orgasm so sweetly.

“I won’t. If you want me undressed, tear them from me.” Had
she lost her mind? Uri’s eyes lit with something aside from anger and it made
her blood boil. She’d challenged him and he would answer it.

“As you wish.” A hand went to the back of her neck as the
other fisted the light material and ripped it from her body. She stood in
nothing but her underthings. “You are so fucking beautiful.”

His hands covered her breasts and pinched her nipples so
hard she gritted her teeth to keep from crying out. Air hissed from her
nostrils. “Go to hell.” Soon she’d have no fight in her. Her body belonged to
him and she could do nothing to stop this. Morta didn’t want it to stop. She
resisted only because she had to, or her soul would be lost to Uri forever.
That could not happen.

Uri’s half-lidded eyes seduced her. “I built this home for
us and it’s lonely here without you.”

“Fuck you.”

“That’s what I want.”

He tore the bra from her body, the pain of it was so sweet,
she did cry out. His hand moved down her stomach and into her panties.
Jesus,
I’m coming
. Morta’s body shuddered with an orgasm. And he hadn’t even
entered her. “Uri, please.” She gulped air.

“Please what?”

“Fuck me, now.” The Fate who cut the threads of life had
just severed her own.

There was no turning back.

He bent his head to shower kisses along her neck. His teeth
nibbled on her ear before his tongue flicked the tender skin that set her heart
galloping faster. “Tell me what you want. I’ll give you the world.”

His fingers found the folds of her pussy and he ravaged her.
Her body moved against him but Morta needed more. “Put them inside me.” He did.
One, then two fingers found their way into her soaked channel and he pushed
deep. His hand built to a rhythm that caused her pelvis to shove back and
forth. He stopped only long enough to tear her panties off. “Ahhh,” Morta
sighed.

She’d finally have Uri in the way she wanted him. It’s what
she needed, what she wanted. Her shaking hands moved to his back. His muscles
contracted beneath them, drawing more caresses from her. She tugged at his hair
hard, trying to force his lips to hers. Those sweet, full lips she’d dreamed
about and imagined on her mouth, on her body. Everywhere he wanted to use them.

“Is this what you want, baby?” He continued to invade her
canal.

“Yes, no…” Delirious with need, she begged, “More.” It was
all she managed to get out before his lips smothered hers. His tongue scoured
her mouth, taking everything. She held nothing from him. He pushed her back
until her legs hit the bed. His fingers left her and Morta cried, “No!” Her
butt landed on the mattress.

“Yes, I need to taste you.” Uri dropped to his knees and her
hands dove into his thick, long hair as she spread her legs as far as she could
to accommodate him. She dug fingernails into his scalp and urged him to the entrance
of her core. The first lick of his tongue sent shivers coursing through Morta
and she trembled. The next stroke made her release more cream. “Give me more,”
he mouthed against her pussy.

Buried between her legs, his tongue lashed at her like a
whip. It stabbed into her with abandon and almost brought another orgasm. Her
body became a quivering mass while he teased with slow, sure strokes across her
labia. He flicked her clit and sucked it until a constant string of moans
escaped her throat. They reverberated through her chest, traveled the walls of
the room and made her want more of what he was doing to her.

“Stand up.” Uri grasped her shoulders and pulled her to her
feet. He turned her toward the bed and bent her over. Grabbing some pillows, he
stuffed them beneath her stomach so he wouldn’t have to bend too far to reach
her pussy.

Morta wanted what was coming badly.

He held his cock and slid it through the wetness between her
thighs. With one brutal thrust, his thickness filled her. Uri slammed his shaft
into her tightness. Using his rhythm, she moved with him and never missed a
stroke.

Uri was lost.

Morta’s tight walls stretched to take all of his cock and he
loved it. He rode her hard and she met each assault with one of her own. She
clamped her pussy around his dick and milked him.

“Take what you want.” He pummeled her over and over. “You
like it don’t you?” His breath came in short gasps.

“Yes.”

Leaning over, Uri grabbed her white hair and twisted her
head toward him. He possessed her mouth with his and stole her sweetness,
swallowing it deep into himself.

“I’ll never let you go. You’re mine,” he whispered in her
ear. He claimed her with his penis. Uri’s heart soared as he took more and
more. His orgasm close, he was overwhelmed with the desire to have her taste
him. Morta groaned when he pulled out and turned her over. He got on the bed
and straddled her, his stiff cock waving in her face. Before he could tell her
what he wanted, she took it.

Her mouth closed over the slick head of his shaft and devoured
him.

“Aww, shit.” There was nowhere for her to hide as he stabbed
in and out of her lips. She sucked him to the back of her throat. Her tongue
whipped around his penis each time he pulled out to let her breathe. The warm
suction of her mouth nearly killed him. “Do you like tasting yourself?”

“With you, yes.”

His cock disappeared again and again. Uri couldn’t hold off
coming much longer. “Baby, please.”

Her tongue pushed him out and she licked the tender
underside of his erection and it scorched his soul. Mort’s hand found his balls
and, moving his cock out of the way, she laved them with wetness. Taking one,
then the other in her hot mouth, she sucked both hard. Her teeth teased the tight
flesh. Morta bit him until he trembled.

All the while, her eyes remained closed tight.

“Look at me, baby, see what you do to me,” Uri pleaded. She
never opened them. He tore into her mind, and once there, he forced her to see
him.
You will see me, damn you,
he snarled, sinking back into her wet
mouth. He flooded her mind with the vision of his cock invading her lips. Uri
blanketed her thoughts with his own salacious need.

Cum ripped from him in an avalanche. His cock pulsed as he
came and Morta sucked and milked him until there wasn’t anything left. Uri
watched her tongue sweep out to capture the last drop from the slit of his shaft.
She licked his whole length dry.

She whispered, “What more do you want from me?”

He fell beside her and lay on his back, one arm across his
face, Uri hid his eyes from her. “You won’t get what you want until you’re
mine.”

“Why are you doing this?”

“Because I can.”

“You’re a bastard.”

“And you’re a cold bitch.”

Uri spoke to no one. Morta had vanished.

Shit
. That wasn’t how he planned the night to end.
What
the hell
did
you plan, jackass
. He didn’t expect her to fall into
his arms and have everything be picture-perfect. But he had hoped to hold her,
feel her cool body next to his. Now what? Cold air drifted over his nakedness,
reminding him of her.

The ice queen.

Uri’s mouth opened and he emitted a hollow cry that rumbled
through the bowels of Earth.

Chapter Three

“Before you even ask, you know what the hell I’ve been up
to, Ram.” Samael’s face flushed with anger. He threw an empty lager bottle
against the wall. It shattered into a million pieces then disappeared. “My
favorite wide receiver has been cut loose and I don’t need your bullshit.”

“What are you going on about?” Ram asked.

“Oh, nothing, not a thing. You wouldn’t understand with your
pansy ass anyway.”

“You’re crazy, you know that? Where is Uri? And you’ll crawl
in somebody’s mind one day and get bitten. Stay the hell out of mine.”

A huge grin spread across Death’s face. “With Morta. Miss
him, don’t ya? I wondered how hope would work without repentance. You boys need
to get your shit together.”

Samael was right. Ram had fumbled along without Uri’s help
long enough. There was still one question he had for Samael. “What happened between
Osce and Morta?” If Ramiel had an understanding of what had caused the hatred
between Uriel and Osce years ago, he’d be better prepared to handle what might
ensue “Osce still bears scars from that debacle and I’m sure if given the
chance Uriel would still see him dead.”

“I’m the Grim Reaper, don’t confuse me with the devil, man,
who you can believe had a hand in it somehow. You have to ask Lucifer about
that one.” Sam’s eyes pierced him. “Been home yet?”

Ramiel grinned wide at the thought of seeing Yael. “First I
have to see Michael and perhaps you should join me. I can crawl into a mind or
two myself. The kid is hands off until we at least give Uri a chance to fix
this. He’s one of us.”

“Sure, sure. It’s always fun to see what you guys can get
into next.” Sam looked at him. “Playing with this kid’s soul is going to cause
a lot of shit, Ramiel, you know that.”

“I know, damn it.”

They entered Michael’s domain and received icy stares.

“You’re late.” Michael paced the length of his study before
he turned to face Decima. “Are you sure Morta can handle this problem with
Uriel?”

“Yes.”

“I understand there must be change, even here in Heaven. Yet
we cannot afford another mishap like the one with
you
.” He glared at Ram
and that pulled a grunt from Samael.

“That turned out well don’t you think? Yael’s been a breath
of fresh air.” Ramiel smiled at Michael. He had thought the angel general no longer
concerned himself with that situation. Yael and Ram’s meshing had actually
worked out for the best. The balance she brought to his life and his love for
her restored compassion to the world. There was more peace and harmony among
men and it had continued to this day.
Hope springs eternal!

“How did you manage to transform Yael and make her a part of
yourself?” Michael asked. To do such a thing without his awareness was unheard
of. Michael gestured upward with his head. “
He
seemed to find humor in
it.” Ram was surprised to hear Decima chuckle.

Michael was charged with helping to maintain the balance of
good and evil and now Ramiel could assist him more since he had Yael. Thousands
of years of keeping angels and humans apart had been hard enough. The powerful bastard
offspring of angels ran amok and created havoc on Earth. The miscreants came
under the control of Uriel who had not been attentive lately and the Nephilim
had become a little too friendly with Lucifer, but Ramiel had a handle on that.

The three of them remained silent. An angel meshing with a Fate
would be much worse. To garner the favor of any of the Fates and hold it to
oneself could be disastrous. For Morta to be involved with Uriel in any way could
destroy the threads of death.

“Uri’s so unpredictable,” Michael stated. “We can only wait
and see if Morta can manage this on her own. Should she not be able to, we
will
intervene.”

Ramiel knew what that meant and he glanced at Sam, who wore
his face of death.

“Lucifer and I are going to see Uri now. Sam, stay out of
this for now.”

“I don’t like losing, so hurry.” Samael took his duties
seriously.

* * * * *

“Get out!” Uri thundered at Lucifer and Ram. “I don’t need
your crap right now.”

“That’s not going to happen so you may as well calm down,”
Lucifer said. “I won’t continue to clean up behind your sorry ass either.” He
spun around to Ram. “Why the hell does he have to live in my house?”

“Enough, and because he needs to keep an eye on your devious
ass. Damn, you’re both like kids. Uri, you have two choices—us or Samael, and
he will kill you if need be.” Ram’s voice jarred Uri. “Let’s go somewhere to
talk.” Ram dematerialized with both Uri and Luke in tow.

They ended up sitting in a club full of noisy humans with
raucous music blaring in the background. Bodies gyrated on the dance floor.
Laughter rang out at the table beside them. Uri was pissed Michael had sent
them. He refused to be baby-sat by the devil and the angel of hope, which
reminded him of something.

“Ram, this is your fucking fault.” In a singsong voice, Uri
continued, “
Just being with her may help
. Bullshit, it’s worse, man.”

“What do you want to hear? You knew this wouldn’t be
tolerated. Can’t you just be happy screwing her?”

Silence wrapped around them like a vacuum. The air became
thick and nothing moved. Ram had gone too far. Just as Uri was ready to strike
out, a white light danced in the corner of his eye.

Light demon. Shit.

They thrived on the discord of angels. One of Luke’s
stupidest creations and Uri wondered how many there were. Luke and Ram saw them
too. A bolt of searing white light pierced Uriel’s arm and jolted him into
action. Thank God it missed his back, which would have caused the inability to
open his wings. “Jesus Christ, can the night get worse?”

Wings unfurled in a flurry and the angels lifted into the
air. The demons had made a big mistake. They hadn’t counted on three of the
strongest angels and they surely hadn’t counted on one being so pissed off he
looked forward to killing something. There’d be no repentance tonight. They
flew off and Uri burst into the night sky in pursuit. Luke and Ram could catch
up. Spotting one, he followed it. There were five of them and their essence
trailed behind them leaving a clear path. He zeroed in and released a blue line
of fire, searing the demon immediately.
His ass is toast
.

“Look out.” Luke’s warning came too late for Uri to dodge a
bolt to the wing from one of the creatures who had doubled back behind him.
He’d been careless. With a useless wing, he tumbled through the air toward the
ground.

His body never hit.

“Shh,” Morta whispered as she caught him and streaked toward
his domain inside the earth.

Luke and Ram could handle the other demons alone. Serve Luke
right if he got nailed. Those little shits carried one hell of a blast and
could put an angel out of commission for a while.

“Couldn’t let me go, huh?” He smiled at Morta.

“Shut up,” she hissed. “I need the child and it’s not too
late to drop your sorry ass.”

Agony ate at Uri, but his laughter filled the night air. “I
would have been fine. Is that the only reason you helped me?” Uri peered at her
hard.

“Yes.” She deposited him in a nearby chair. Fine down-soft
feathers knitted together as he began to repair his wing.

“Mort, why are you so cold? Did what happened between us
mean nothing to you?”

She flinched and turned away from him in an effort to gain
control of her emotions. Morta refused to say what was in her heart even though
the thought of him in pain seared her chest with anguish. Let him believe the
boy was her major concern.

Candles flickered and cast beautiful prisms of color through
the cavern. Crystal walls danced with shadows. Her gaze fell to the bed in the
alcove and she grew warm with memories of the pleasure Uri had brought to her
body there.

She was the Fate responsible for ending life and though it
bored into her each and every day of her existence, it’s what she did. Morta worked
hand-in-hand with Death and soon he would come to her for the child. At least
she felt happy he wouldn’t be visiting Lucifer. The boy would go to Heaven. “You
understand my duty so why are you doing this? We can be nothing more than what
we are now.”

“And what are we? What do I mean to you other than a good
fuck?”

Morta’s throat constricted as she struggled with her
feelings. “Nothing,” she spat out. The word hung in the air.

“Then there’s
nothing
left for us to say.”

After white light dissipated from his leaving, Morta stared
at the bed. Her feet carried her to its side and she breathed deep of their
commingled scent. If only she could forget him. Her thoughts drifted to Osce.
Maybe he could help her with this.

* * * * *

“Hey, Mort,” said Osce. “Been a while since I’ve seen you.
What’s up?” Unsure of the reason for her visit, Osce eyed her warily.

“I needed someone to talk to.”

“Hmm, and I’m the first person that came to mind of course?”
Osce’s mouth lifted in a sneer. “Wouldn’t have anything to do with the one
bastard I’m not going to discuss with you?”

She looked at Osce’s face. A puckered scar started at his
temple, ran the length of his right cheek and stopped just short of reaching
his full lips. It would never go away unless Uri removed it. Damn if it didn’t
manage to make him look even more handsome in a sinister way. If only she could
feel for him what she felt for Uri. Because Osce was an exulted and imbued with
lesser powers, the rules regarding being with him were different.

The sleek brown braid now reached past his waist. She
remembered how soft it had felt fisted in her hand. That was as far as it went.
Her intention even then had been to use Osce to wipe the angel of repentance
from her thoughts. It hadn’t worked.

“Look, Mort, I forced the kiss. I know what you’re thinking
and none of this is your fault.” Whiskey-brown eyes lanced through her.

“I can’t help feeling responsible.”

“For what? I knew what you were doing. I could have said no.
It wouldn’t have been any different. He has set his mind on having you.”

“That can never be.” Tears threatened her eyes and she
turned from Osce. His footfalls sounded far away as he crossed to where she
stood. When his arms enfolded her, Morta let go. Silent sobs wracked her body
and her dear friend just held her. She should hold him after what he’d been
through. Osce’s face had been disfigured in a jealous rage when Uriel believed
his exulted wanted to possess Morta. Uri had intended to teach Osce respect by
kidnapping the woman Osce was falling for. The problem was the woman, Patricia,
happened to be Yael’s best friend, and that brought Ramiel into it. Morta had
retrieved Patricia but bad feelings lingered. “If only Ramiel hadn’t been
involved. Christ, he and Uriel need each other.”

“Shh, baby. It’ll work out. It gets easier.”

“Yeah, like you could forget Patricia.” She wiped her eyes
and smiled up at him. “Tell me how easy that is.” She was sorry the words had
left her mouth. Osce stepped away from her going to stand by the window.

“I don’t want to talk about her.” His shoulders slumped.

“Why are you torturing yourself? Do you know how lucky you
are that you can be with her?”

“Yeah, right.” His glare was full of anger when he faced
her. “Do you think for one minute Uri would leave her alone if he knew how much
I cared? This isn’t over for him, Mort.”

“He’d never harm her. Not now. She has Yael’s protection and
Ram would never allow it.”

“I won’t involve them again.”

“I’ll tell him the truth. It was just a kiss; it meant
nothing to either of us.”

“Felt pretty hot from my end. Back then I’d hoped…Look, it
doesn’t matter. Uri thinks there was more.”

“So because I don’t owe him an explanation, it’s my fault?”

“I said it’s not your fault. Mort—”

“I must go.”
It is my fault.
If Uri hadn’t seen that
one kiss, none of this would be happening. She had to find him, make him
understand about what he saw. Ram and Yael would never let Osce be hurt again,
but she couldn’t take that chance. A need burned in her to make it right for Osce
and Patty. At least somebody could come out of this sad affair with some
happiness.
Sure as hell won’t be me.

Michael and the Father had set rules and Morta understood
why there must not be an alliance between her and Uriel. Ever.

Morta felt her sister Fate’s presence as she whipped through
the night sky.

Are you close to a remedy?
Decima asked.

Yes, I am. It’s just that he’s still angry about
something that happened a long time ago.
Able to bury it deep in her mind
where her sisters couldn’t see it, she’d never fully explained her and Uri’s
story to them.
He knows he can’t keep the boy forever.

Michael will send Samael to do what is necessary. Be
careful
.

Decima was right, the stolen soul needed to be located
without further delay. There had to be a way to get information from Uri. Mort
hated games but she might have to play his or they could both be in dire trouble.
Sam had already warned her and now Decima delivered the very same caution. The
only way to handle this was to give Uri what he wanted. At least make him
believe that’s what she was doing. She’d wait for him in his home. Feminine wiles
were not her strong point yet she had a few tricks up her sleeve.

* * * * *

“You’re crazy as hell, you know that.” Lucifer said to Uri.
“Michael will have you singing soprano if you don’t leave her alone.”

Uri had decided to see what Lucifer and Ram were up to after
their run-in with the light demons. He didn’t want to return home. He caught up
with them at a club they all frequented. The place was packed tonight and
provided just what Uri wanted. Distraction. Pulsating music helped to erase
some of his blues. Uri breathed deep and took in the female smells rampant in
the room.
