His eyes moistened, and he forced his thoughts back to the here and now. Turning, he decided it was time to get moving. Moving over to his new horse, he stroked the stallion's nose, breathing in his smell. He loved the smell of horses, for some reason he found the smell calming.

Thinking the horse could use a break, he led it along the road at a slow walk.

As Flare led his horse out of sight along the north road, away from the well, a shimmering translucent figure appeared by the well. The figure appeared to be an old elven man with a long beard that hung down almost to his belt.

The figure looked to the northern road, where Flare had disappeared around the curve. He sighed.

“It has begun.” A deep voice said, causing the translucent figure to nod.

“Yes, it has.” The elven figure agreed. He looked back to the road, with a worried expression on his face.

“Is he ready?” The deep voice asked. The voice seemed to come out of the very air.

The elf grunted. “He knows a handful of magic spells and he thinks himself a magician. He can barely control his spirit, but he fancies himself a sorcerer.” He grunted again, “And I don't think he can even spell wizardry.”

There was a pause and then the deep voice spoke again. “That boy is of the utmost importance. Guide him, Osturlius. Make sure he finds what he needs to find.”

The translucent elven man bowed his head, “As you command, my lord Adel.”
