Still, she had to pull one on him. “I hope you’ll make it worth my while.”

He chuckled softly. “When haven’t I, kitten?” Totally true, the cocky bastard. She’d come more this last week than the whole seven years they’d been apart. “Now let me take care of you. It’s my job.”

She lifted her top and pinched her nipples, her fingers sticky from her juices. She turned her face to watch Mike’s eyes growing darker with lust.

“You’re so fucking gorgeous,” Mike said in a hoarse voice as he watched her fondling herself. He trailed his fingers along her puffy folds down to her ass and massaged it.

Oh God. Her womb convulsed; her ass clenched. She pinched her nipples harder.

“Dying to get in here, baby. With my cock.” At his words her ass clenched even tighter, and her juices spilled from her open pussy. She was roughly pulling at her nipples now, her back arched. “Not now, but soon.”

She was going to say something, but he surged inside her, two powerful fingers parting her inner flesh, and any thoughts of being flippant flew out of her mind while her pussy clutched around him and her womb contracted sharply.

“Yeah, baby. Like that. So fucking hot.”

While his fingers were working her pussy, the palm of his calloused, big hand was pressed against her clit. So good. Then he placed his other hand over her lower abdomen, the unexpected pressure driving her crazy with need. She began rocking against his length. Hard.

“Stop riding my cock or I’ll yank your pants down, and fuck you right here.”

She wanted to obey, but she was too far gone to slow down. “Mike—”

He must have sensed her desperation, for he pressed deeper inside her core, his thumb rubbing at her clit. “Pull at your nipples, babe. Harsh, as if I were sucking them, and then twist them a bit. I’ll take care of you.”

She did as he instructed and the orgasm that had been building for a while got out of control. She felt herself going higher and higher, and cresting, her body tensing, her legs shaking, her pussy quaking.

“Mike, I’m coming,” she whispered between broken pants, pressing hard against his cock, flinging her head back. “Oh God.”

“Give it to me, kitten. All of it.”

And right there, with one of his hands buried deep in her pussy and the other covering her mouth, muffling her screams, with people in the street laughing and talking, with her daughter blissfully sleeping on the other side of the big living room, her world imploded in a thousand pieces.

“Need inside you,” he growled in her ear as she floated back. “Right fucking now.”

That jolted her out of her stupor. “Mike, we can’t. Sam is on the couch, and there’s no door in this place.”

“There is one,” he said, and lifting her in his arms, he stood and strode to the bathroom.

He placed her on the counter and closed the door with his foot. He pulled her sweatpants off.

He painted her lips with her juices and ate at them, licking and sucking them, as he positioned himself.

“I love doing you with my mouth, but I can’t wait a second more.”

He thrust into her, her inner muscles parting and locking around him.

He let out a curse. “You’re so fucking tight,” he whispered, withdrawing a bit and then surging inside.

“Didn’t have sex for four years,” she let out between pants against his lips.

That seemed to surprise him, for he stilled. “Four years? Why?”

Kyra shrugged. “For release I just needed my hands or a sex toy; I didn’t need a guy. For making love I needed…” She clamped her mouth shut, realizing she was talking too much.

“What you needed for making love?” he prompted her, holding her by her ass cheeks and pushing deep inside her body, those damn metal balls playing havoc in her pussy.

“For making love I needed you, and I didn’t have you,” she finished, so low she wasn’t sure he could hear it.

He did. He froze, closed his eyes, his face locked in a grimace. “Fuck, baby.”

He hugged her so hard she could barely breathe while he pounded inside her like a savage animal, his face burrowed in the crook of her neck.

Kyra wrapped her arms and legs around him and held on for dear life as he gave her one of the most powerful orgasms ever, slamming against her, as if loving and punishing her at the same time.

She felt him go off inside her, his cock jerking and filling her.

For a long while there was not a sound in the bathroom, only their ragged breathing.

“Stay,” he roughly whispered against her neck. “Please, stay the night.”

How she wished she could, but she couldn’t. She needed to go. But not just yet. Not just yet, she repeated to herself, hugging him hard.

Chapter Nine

Arms crossed over his chest, Mike leaned over the far wall in the community center, watching as Sam, cutely dressed like a bee, jumped around the stage, her smile so bright it was blinding. She wasn’t that coordinated, but there was something about the way she jiggled around, wiggling her fake wings, her skinny arms flying all over the place out of tune with the music, that was just adorable. There was a palpable tension between her and the other girls, though, especially with Marcy, whom Sam, never losing her smile, had elbowed and made stumble back a couple of times already.

From where he was standing, he could see Kyra sitting in the first row, proudly watching her daughter, her face soft. His chest clenched. He would love to walk up there and kiss the living daylights out of her, but that wasn’t what Kyra wanted. In all honesty, he wasn’t sure he was ready to answer all the questions such a bold movement would raise either.

He wasn’t supposed to be participating in any public events with Kyra and her kid, but the whole town was present, so he figured he could be there too. And it wasn’t as if he was there sitting by her side, his arm around her shoulder, making a public statement. He was lurking in a corner, trying to steal a peek of his two favorite girls in the world. Pathetic, really.

As he was musing on his patheticness, his grandmother approached him from behind. “So here you are,” she whispered. “They’re awesome, aren’t they? They almost drove Wilma insane, but look at them now.”

Mike smiled. At that same moment Sam tripped over her feet but held on to her balance, only to be pushed by Marcy, who, apparently, wasn’t above holding a grudge or two either.

Wilma had brought the girls to the gym several times to practice after that first attempt when Sam had FUBARed the whole room, and Mike had been able to follow their dynamics. The girls danced, eyeing Sam warily, Marcy in the lead, all following Wilma’s instructions while Sam was like a wrecking ball around them, pretending she didn’t care that the others were leaving her aside but not really pulling it off. School would start soon, and Sam needed to learn to play with others, at least for however long she and Kyra were staying in Alden. The karate classes for kids would resume after the summer break, and he was going to get Sam to take part. It shouldn’t be difficult; whenever she was in the gym, which was almost every day, the kid followed him around all the time, and he was the karate teacher.

“Kyra is over there. There’s an empty seat by her side. Why don’t you go sit with her?”

“I’m fine here,” he grunted.

It had been two weeks since the day his grandmother and her partners in crime had locked them in the community center, and he’d kept his part of the deal. Grudgingly, but he had.

As the play ended, all the bees scattered around the room, searching for their families. Sam ran to her mom, who lifted her and twirled her around, laughing.

Mike was going to leave, when Sam spotted him.

“Mike,” she called as she made a dash for him. “You came to see me.”

He took her in his arms. “Of course, baby girl. You were great.”

“I sucked,” she mumbled near his ear. “But Marcy sucked worse.”

He chuckled. Yep, she was a vindictive little thing. “You didn’t suck,” he said, putting her down as Kyra walked toward them.

“Hi,” she said quietly, blushing a bit.

Meeting in public, here or in the gym, felt awkward. Not to be able to touch her. Pretending they were nothing to each other while they had been fucking each other’s brains out mere hours ago. It was getting kind of difficult, at least on his part.

His grandmother acted as if she didn’t notice the strain and asked the girls, “What are you two up to this wonderful Saturday afternoon?”

“We have pizza night today,” Sam explained. “It’s a tradition.”

“Really? I haven’t eaten pizza since forever.”

Sam looked at her mother. “Mommy, can Mike and Gram come with us?”

Kyra faltered. “They surely have plans.”

“No, we don’t,” Mike’s grandmother interjected before he could say anything. “And we love pizza. Don’t we, Mike?”

He shot a glare to his grandma, which she totally and shamelessly ignored, and then he turned to Sam. “Okay, but we need to get your mom’s permission first.”

He desperately wanted to spend the afternoon with Kyra and Sam, but he wanted Kyra to be okay with it too.

The kid looked to her mother with sad puppy eyes, worse than those of that Puss in Boots from
Shrek
, the movie Lisa’s kids had forced him to watch on his last visit. “Please? Please, please, please.” Then Sam upped her performance and pouted, adding the right amount of trembling to her lower lip, and that was Kyra’s undoing.

“Well…”

Sam clapped and threw herself in Kyra’s arms. “Yay. You’re the bestest mother in the world.” God, she was good, as manipulative as his grandma. Then Sam waved at them. “Let’s go. Mom always lets me choose the ingredients. I come up with great pizzas; you’ll see.”

With Rebecca and Sam leading the way, Kyra and Mike exited the building.

“Don’t let her choose the ingredients for your pizza,” Kyra whispered to him.

“What?”

“Just listen to me and for once follow my lead.”

“I always follow your lead,” he shot back.

Kyra snorted, leaning into him and bumping her hip against his. “You following my lead? I think you’re physically unable to do that, Mr. My Way or the Highway master of the universe.”

He chuckled but remained silent. She was right on that.

They’d been indulging in their affair for a while now, mostly when Sam wasn’t home. He’d sneak into the house when Sam was already asleep and leave before dawn. He loved fucking Kyra, no two ways about it—she blew his mind every damn time—but there was something missing. Still, he kept his emotional distance as much as he could; he didn’t want his heart on the line. More than it already was, of course. Kyra would leave, he knew, and his heart would get squashed beyond salvation if he offered it to her again.

He might have wanted to work her out of his system by indulging in that secret affair, but fuck if it had worked. She wasn’t out of his system; she owned it now. As if she’d pulled a hostile takeover, and where it came to Mike, she was lord of all she surveyed.

They made it to Kyra’s car, and Mike couldn’t refrain from frowning. That piece of shit was going to fall to pieces any day now.

“Where are you parked?” Kyra asked, and Mike pointed across the street. “You follow us?”

“Oh, Mom. Let’s ride with Mike. His truck is amazing and shiny. And it has music.”

“Ours has music too,” Kyra answered, seemingly insulted on her Fiat’s behalf.

“Yes, but everything shakes, and the motor is too loud to hear anything.”

“It may rattle a bit, but it’s vintage.”

“What’s vintash?” Sam asked.

“Old, sweetie,” Rebecca whispered.

“Ah, then yes, our car is very vintash. But shiny is better,” she said, pulling at her mother’s hand. “Come on.”

“If we leave our car here, we’ll be stranded.”

“I’ll drive you back. Or send someone for your car,” Mike said while clicking his truck’s remote control to unlock the doors.

At the beeping sound and flashing lights, Kyra muttered to him, “Show-off.”

Mike wasn’t going to send anyone to pick up the car. At the first opportunity, he was going to call the garage and make sure they kidnapped it. If he played his cards right, they could get some pieces replaced before Kyra could realize it. Maybe the whole motor? He wasn’t sure if anything was salvageable, but he surely hoped so, because if he replaced her entire car, she was bound to notice. And take offense.

Between the loud music and Sam’s chatter, there was no need for anyone else to talk on the way to their place. They parked in the driveway, and as they were entering the house, Mike’s cell started ringing.

“Hi, handsome, is your grandma with you? Been looking for her for a while.”

“Yep, here she is. Wait a sec.” He handed the cell to his grandmother. “For you. Wilma.”

The gleam in her eyes didn’t bode well. “Hi… Oh, that’s right… Sorry… At Kyra’s… Okay…right…see you now.”

On the other end of the line, Wilma was rambling loudly, as always. He could see in his mind the woman’s perfectly manicured hands flying as she yelled into the cell. The OGs did get along with the new technology, but they hadn’t managed to get rid of the habit of screaming while talking into the cell.

“Guys, I’m so sorry,” his grandmother said as she closed the phone. “I forgot I had a date with Greta and Wilma. There’s seniors’ karaoke today, and we can’t miss it.”

Sam pouted.

“I’m sorry, Sam. I totally forgot.”

Yeah, right. This had been another of her plots. But he couldn’t bring himself to get mad; he was damn glad for the opportunity.

“Mike is here,” she continued. “And he eats for three of me. You’ll get to make lots of pizza. What do you say, honey? I promise next Monday after the gym, I’ll bake you my famous cookies.”

She was bribing Sam with cookies. He knew it because she had done that to him countless times while he was growing up, and it had always worked. Hell, it still worked now.

“Okay, but only if I can help.”

“Deal,” Rebecca said, hugging the kiddo. At that moment the purring of a fine-tuned motor came from the front of the house. “This must be Wilma. She was on her way to pick Greta up.”

They went out to meet Wilma and noticed Greta was approaching from her place.
