The oddest part was neither Jason nor Gregory called her. She even went so far as to check her phone to make sure it still worked. She asked Gel several times on Tuesday and Wednesday to call her to make sure; each call worked. She wondered for a while why they didn’t call but slowly realized they’d both given her what she’d asked for. That should have made her feel better, but for some reason she just felt more bitter than sweet.

By Thursday, she thought she’d successfully put behind her what she’d lost to sufficiently rejoin the flow of the world. She doubted she’d ever fully recover from losing, at once, two men she loved. But when she got the call from Margot to come out to the Black Magnolia for a special, command kitty performance for Lady Corneille Noir, Haley couldn’t refuse.

“It’s like her birthday or something,” Margot told her, “and a Decadence hangover party. But she wants the kittengirls there. I already called Tina, and she agreed to do it. Everyone is going to come. It’ll be a blast.”

Haley glanced across the room to where her kittengirl costume still lay on the floor in a pile of dirty clothes. She didn’t want to wear it again. As she looked at it, she thought about everything she’d been through in the nearly two weeks since she’d last worn it. She definitely couldn’t put that costume back on. She’d changed too much. “I’ll do it.”

“Great!”

But I need something new to wear.

Haley unlocked her studio door, set down the bottle of wine she’d brought on her cutting table, and dropped the bags of fabric, trim, and notions on the floor. She had a long night ahead of her. She unscrewed the wine and took a drink. She planned on ordering a pizza from the place down the street after she got the first phase of her work done.

She wiped the back of her hand against her mouth, then ripped into her bags. First she pulled out a few yards of gunmetal satin. This reminded her of Gregory: soft but suggestive of steel. Then she pulled out some plush black synthetic mink, the same ebony as Jason’s hair. Pyramid studs, chunky chrome zippers, and plenty of D-rings carried more of her tribute to him. They’d turned her into a new woman, and this costume would honor and celebrate that. Even if she could no longer be with them, they had forever marked her life. They had validated her needs and wants and had given her the confidence to stand up for herself.

Haley fetched her dress form and set it in the center of the room. She turned her radio on to the local college music station and went to work.

Hours passed, and she ordered her pizza: all veggie, extra sauce. She scarfed it down, went down the hall to wash her hands, and got right back into her project. The silver satin romper had started taking shape, and Haley felt particularly good about where it seemed to be going. She didn’t usually design something so recklessly. Normally she'd spend days sketching and drafting, then creating mock-ups out of muslin. But she didn’t have the time for that now. She had to have something done by tomorrow night.

She worked well into the middle of the night, and she finished the wine. At about two, she started a batch of coffee and drank the entire pot as she worked.

Eventually, as she put the last touches on the ears of her costume, she nodded off, her head settling down on the workbench.

When she woke, the outside world was bright with the sun. She knew it had to be at least ten o’clock. Maybe even later.

She looked at her dress form and smiled. She couldn’t believe she had finished it. The gunmetal romper, complete with fur-trimmed puffed sleeves and legs as short as hot pants, looked beautiful. The chrome accents glinted in the light. The front was cut low, with a line of D-rings on ticking down the front. She’d sewn D-rings around the cuffs of the shorts and the sleeves too. From the back came her matching tail. She’d sewn matching black arm warmers that attached with ribbons and D-rings to the ends of the puffed sleeves. She’d never seen anything like it, and she felt a great deal of pride.

All she needed to do was finish the tail, and then she could go home for a real sleep.

Haley stood, waiting expectantly. Maxwell let Margot out of the other side of the town car and clipped her green leather leash to her matching collar. He held another one for Haley, strictly for appearance’s sake, but she didn’t wear a collar. Instead, he clipped it to one of the D-rings that ran down the front of her costume. “Ready, ladies?” he asked.

“Yes, Sir,” they answered simultaneously, and he led them into the Black Magnolia.

Haley didn’t know what to expect. She hadn’t been inside since the spring, before the renovations had taken place. Once Maxwell checked them in at the desk—their names were already on some list—he pulled Haley and Margot into the main lounge.

The place looked amazing. It used to be a mishmash of modern furniture, some art nouveau stuff, heavy damask drapes, and walls painted in all different shades. Now chrome, white leather, and clean glass filled the space.

“Margot, fetch drinks. I believe there should already be something at the bar for us.”

“Yes, Sir.”

Maxwell dropped her leash, and Margot headed off to the bar.

Haley stood, waiting, her eyes on the floor. She knew Maxwell wanted nothing to do with her sexually, but she still needed to play the part of a good sub, given the situation.

“You may sit,” he told her.

Haley folded to her knees and sat on one hip, tucking her legs beneath her.

“You’ve made a lovely new costume,” Maxwell said, and Haley felt herself warm a little at his praise. She did love her new costume. It had come out exactly as she had wanted, right down to the headdress and ears. She loved the feel of the satin against her skin, and the fur and chrome accents gave just the right edge.

“Thank you, Sir,” she finally mumbled.

“Certainly.” He placed a finger beneath her chin and raised her head so she could look at him. “I hope you enjoy tonight,” he said, then lowered his voice. “Whatever happens, just remember I had nothing to do with it.” He winked at her, and suddenly Haley felt very insecure. What was going on?

Before she could dwell on it any further, Margot arrived with drinks. She handed them around and then knelt on the floor next to Maxwell and waited for permission to drink.

Haley didn’t wait. Her nerves had suddenly gotten the better of her, and she downed her cosmopolitan in three quick gulps. She knew it would be the only drink she had this night, but she didn’t bother savoring it. She glanced at Margot, and for the first time noticed there was definitely something up with her. Whatever it was, Haley couldn’t tell, but she knew that look.
I should call her out on it
. But no, she couldn’t do that in front of Maxwell.

On a nearby couch, two women made out with the same man. The wet sounds of their kisses filled the air that had grown too close and hot for Haley. She swallowed. Fall couldn’t come soon enough. She wanted to feel cold instead of overheated all the time.

She hazarded a glance at the ménage on the couch, and the quick glimpse made her heart skip. She still wanted that same thing with Gregory and Jason, but she knew it was impossible. Any good spirits she’d felt earlier at coming out tonight immediately fled. It felt much too soon to be doing this. Tears stung her eyes as she realized she hadn’t even come close to getting over her relationship.

“I’m a fool,” she whispered. “I’m just going to ruin your night. I should probably—”

“I did not give you permission to speak,” Maxwell snapped, and his tone made Haley flinch. But it also shut her up. “You’ll do as I say, or I’ll have Margot spank you.”

Haley looked at her friend, and Margot had a small smile on her lips. She didn’t glance up, only sat there holding her rum and Coke, waiting.

“Drink your drink, Margot. It’s nearly time we went upstairs.”

Margot finally raised her glass and started drinking.

Haley lowered her gaze to the floor again and waited. Maxwell
did
hold her leash, so she had better do what he said for the time being.

When Margot and Maxwell had finished their drinks, Maxwell stood and yanked on Haley’s and Margot’s leashes. “Time to head to the bondage room and give our birthday wishes to her highness.”

Haley could detect a smidge of sarcasm in Maxwell’s voice, but she didn’t let on.

He led the two women in their Japanese-style cat costumes up the stairs to the bondage room. The door was closed, but a deep bass thumping, along with cries of agony and ecstasy, came through the wooden surface.

“Ready?” Maxwell asked.

Haley didn’t think so, but she and Margot both said, “Yes, Sir,” and he opened the door.

He pulled them through by their leashes and then dropped Haley’s. He led Margot off to the side, and Haley came to a halt just inside the door.

Lady Corneille Noir was in fact there, seated at her customary worshipping throne; a slave crouched at her feet. But it didn’t seem to be a party in her honor or anything, and there were no other kittengirls. The lady did have a slight smile on her lips, though, and she nodded her head toward the other side of the room.

Haley glanced in that direction, and her heart stopped. She even went so far as to raise her hand to her chest to feel it, to convince herself that she hadn’t died right then and there.

Standing on either side of a high, black leather-clad bondage bed were Jason and Gregory. Jason had a flail in his hands, and Gregory stood staring at her with his arms crossed. They both looked exceedingly displeased. Haley started shaking her head slowly, realizing she couldn’t possibly do this. She turned to leave, but Gregory’s voice called out, “Stop!” over all the other sounds in the room, and every muscle froze as if he had a direct line to her brain. Which, she supposed, he did. Her gaze found Margot’s, and in that look, Haley knew Margot had set her up. There was no birthday party here. Only two men who wouldn’t let her live with the decision she’d made. She swore she’d get back at Margot first chance she had.

“Come here,” Jason called, and—as with Gregory—she couldn’t stop herself. Haley crossed the room to where they stood. She eyed the bed and the shackles and straps that already hung from the sides, waiting for her.

“You disappointed us last weekend,” Gregory said.

“We think you must have forgotten who is in charge,” Jason told her. He stepped forward, placed a hand on her back. “For that, you should be punished.”

Haley nodded slightly and dropped her gaze to the floor. She
had
forgotten, but the need to keep her own sanity had to overrule her desire to be dominated. While a good dynamic existed between the three of them in play, it definitely left something to be desired outside the scene. Haley had reached a point in her life when she knew she needed the love
and
the play; she loved both these men and wanted them present in all areas of her life.

Maybe she needed to submit now and give it a final chance?

Jason maneuvered her to the bondage bed and pressed her down onto it. Her ass stuck out, and without warning, Jason smacked it three times in quick succession with the flail. She felt her skin burn and tears threaten again, but she took her swats without protest.

“Straighten up,” Jason told her after a moment. She did, smoothing down the bottom of her romper.

“I like the costume,” Gregory said, “but you need to take it off. Now.”

Haley didn’t hesitate. She started to undo the laces, zippers, and straps that held her costume together. In a moment, all the pieces lay on the floor, and Haley stood there, naked except for her black boots and ears. The two men’s gazes burned into her. She could feel their desire as if it had its own existence in the room. Moisture began to seep from her cunt.

“We didn’t get to finish what we started the other night,” Gregory said. “We want to do that now.”

For all the heat and frustration Haley had felt downstairs, now her nipples pebbled and goose bumps broke out over her skin. She shivered and wanted to cross her arms over her chest to cover herself, but she didn’t dare.

“Jason?” Gregory prompted, and Jason dropped his flail and began stripping too. Soon he stood naked. He bent down and picked up a large wedge of vinyl-covered foam and placed that on the bed. Then he climbed on it himself.

“Get on,” Jason told her, and he offered her one of his hands to help her climb up.

Haley raised her hand to reach for it, but then she stopped herself. “No,” she whispered.

“What?” Gregory asked.

“I won’t do it.”

“Yes, you will.” Jason wiggled his fingers at her, but still she refused to take his hand.

“I can’t do it. I can’t live with two men who don’t—”

“What? Cooperate, like each other,
love
each other?” Gregory sighed. “Haley, neither of us will ever be hot for each other, but Jason and I can cooperate. We got you here tonight, didn’t we? And we both love you enough to work on this.”

“We love you,” Jason repeated.

She felt tears in her eyes. He’d finally told her they loved her. But would it be enough?

“Now, do you love us enough to trust that we can make this work?” Jason asked.

Haley’s head spun. All her self-doubt seemed to rise to the surface. It battled against the love she saw in the two men standing before her. Could she put up with their bickering and fighting to have what she wanted? What mattered more?

“Haley, here you need to submit to us…to what we can become together,” Gregory told her.

“But I can’t live with the way you two treat—”

“Tonight that choice is not yours,” Jason cut in. “We are making it for you.”

Haley’s stomach flipped.

Tonight
you do what I—what we say.” Jason’s voice carried all the dominance he’d ever shown Haley.

She couldn’t say no to him…to them. She felt her chin tremble slightly as an anxious pain bloomed beneath her breastbone. She took a few deep breaths. Could she do it? Haley nodded slightly and steeled her nerves. She had to. “Yes, Sirs,” she finally managed, and when she said it, the anxiety disappeared. Giving up control freed her. “I do love you both enough.” She reached out her hand, and Jason pulled her up. Whatever happened after this, Haley only had herself to blame.
