I also took a few liberties, including the creation of a Park Police force in Glacier, and the formation of a fictional school outside the park. I also tinkered just slightly with the actual terrain close to the Loop for the sake of plot. I hope I have not offended anyone who knows the area well. The Flathead Valley has several excellent therapeutic schools, and this story is in no way meant to make a statement about the quality of any of the local boarding schools. Additionally, the fictitious creation of a Park Police force is not meant to make light of the tremendous work GNP rangers do and the valuable services and law enforcement they provide.

I owe thanks to countless folks for their generous support in helping me establish myself as an author: some fellow writers, some friends, and some readers. I couldn’t possibly name them all, but here are a few who have shown me extra kindness, assistance, and encouragement along the way: Kathy Dunnehoff, Janet VanDerMeer, Mara Goligoski, Dennis Foley, Marian Ellison, Christine Finlayson, Leslie Budewitz, Patti Spence, Sarah Fajardo, Jackie Brown, Ginnie Cronk, Cheryl Behr, Sandy Anderson, Kim Corette, Pat and Missy Carloss,
Steve and Meg Lull, Tony Stais, Paisley Amaya, and Sharon Healy. I thank Glacier National Park Conservancy for their kind support, all the wonderful book clubs I’ve participated in, both local and afar, all the extraordinary booksellers out there, and finally you, dear reader! I have been overwhelmed countless times by the heartfelt messages and encouragement I’ve received. It makes me want to keep trying to get it right!

Any mention of landmarks or made-up businesses resembling actual businesses is only done to gain verisimilitude. All errors, deliberate or by mistake, are wholly mine.

Dig into another chilling Montana mystery. . .
Christine Carbo's haunting debut crime novel about a man who finds himself at odds with the dark heart of the wild—and the even darker heart of human nature.
