“Do not let anyone know about this.”

Sondra sternly told the other fairy.

The elevator doors slid open.

They
automatically
let
us
in
.

I expected it to go down.

When I realized down was not the answer
expected up
.

But when that was not the answer either the elevator jutted sideways.

Then
It
stopped.

Then opened.

And will I ever forget the first sight of this new place?

Just like New York
City
, except the people were exotic.

The vampires were normal looking just as everyday human beings.

The fairies hovered a foot off the ground casually.

The way they interacted with each other was expressionless.

The fairies hair were died, did strangely, exotic makeup, and very in-average clothing.

I couldn’t help but think I’d never find Galen.

A taxi was waiting for us as if I was expected.

They weren’t the ones you would normally imagine.

They were old school.

Like the carriages pulled by horses in body shackle.

This looked odd in such a modernized place such as thus.

I was helped in by a man who threw a cloak around me but not Sondra.

“Why did he put this on me?”

I asked when the ride started.

“Because you are of great importance.”

She told me.

We arrived at a building that looked like the white house.

Although it was just smaller and about as tall as a skyscraper.

One whole side of the building I could see was made out of completely glass.

This side I walked in had turning doors made out of marble.

The inside was an
eerie
silence.

Until I got a little ahead and heard a huge party.

I continued to pass multiple huge parties until I got to the sixtieth floor.

The very last floor.

And when I entered the smell of peppermint hit me.

One side of the wall had
realistic
3D scenery.

The room was completely green with zig zag furniture.

“Take a seat,”
President Alijondra ordered.

I sat down a plush emerald sofa which was a great sign of wealth.

“Leslie Woods,” President Alijondra addressed.

“A significant sign has been noticed to the vampiric council by our fairy allies that you have convened with the werewolves.

That you have done this we want you to be their enemy-.”

“No-” I started.

The
guard slapped me in the face and I knew it was not my right to interrupt.

“You will act the same and become the spy.

Every month we will check in on you for news by the fairies.

If you choose not to obey we will immediately dispose of your pathetic life and choose someone else to take the part.” she nodded.

Sondra was
nervous beside me, and I guessed that my attitude would affect her also.

I stood up rudely, spat in her face, and said, “Choose someone else to do your filthy work.”

The guards were on me in seconds.

And so was a knife at Sondra's neck.

“Noooo!”

I screamed at the top of my lungs until my voice was hoarse.

And the guards pushed me out and shut the door on me leaving me all alone to witness Sondra's screams.

I leaped to my feet and ran out the door.

It sounded like a million rolls of thunder.

But
it was only the sound of stream upon stream of vampire running towards the forest.

My first instinct was to follow them.

Something told me I was the one who caused this.

How?

I don’t know.

My legs reached speeds faster than any of them.

The hazy forest looked dim in the lowlight of the evening.

The tall evergreen trees were tight together.

I pushed past vampire after vampire.

Snow came down in gentle flakes stinging me wherever they touched.

Unmistakable howls erupted in the distance.

When a clearing came up I was reminded of Lea, the teddy bear, and the knife.

The vampires had made a formation behind me.

I knew whoever the enemy was, this was battle.

And somehow the position President Alijondra put me in, I was commander.

I threw off my black hoodie to feel
looser
, walking forward cautiously.

From the other side of the clearing fifty figures emerged.

My
throat constricted.

The
front of the force was
made up of the five most powerful werewolves.

Loren, Regan, Dimitri, Jeremy, and Carson.

Shock
and a look of betrayal crossed their faces.

My world was about to go black.

Which I welcomed.

But it didn’t.

One of the second rank vampires stepped up behind me and whispered quickly.

Hesitantly I stepped up to the half mark line and shook
Carson’s
hand.

“I-I can’t do this,
” I
whispered.

“Leslie,
” He
grasped my hand tighter.

“Start the battle then leave and find a safe spot.”

“No,
” I
refused.

“You’ll get hurt.”

“Leslie, this is not the time to be doing this.

“Carson Lund,
” I
raised my voice so it echoed throughout the silent clearing.

Then I let go of his hand and threw my arms around his neck.

Then kissed him, which made the silence break out into a full on chaotic battle.

Something yanked Carson from me.

Slamming the vampire fifty feet away I told Carson, “I started the battle, but I won’t run from it.”

“So what are you going to do then?

Kill vampires or kill werewolves?”

“Neither,
” I
replied.

“I’m going to protect you.”

“I’m perfectly capable,
” he
snarled, then shifted into a massive beautiful wolf with those beautiful green eyes.

I should have never left or I’d be my same
self-stuck
with the same old Carson.

And now we were back to back fending off any creature from both sides.

I saw a silvery grey wolf coming at me.

When our eyes met, instantly I recognized Loren.

Even her
being a wolf I could see sadness in her virgin face.

A circle of vampires walked casually towards Carson and I, fighting off any werewolf trying to break the ring
, they
opened the circle then reclosed it around us.

My heart fell when I recognized president Alijondra.

My fist balled nervously around some of Carson's fur.

And then I saw the Ricolis imprisoned behind her.

Jason, Heather, Rifle, and Lea clutched
each other’s
hands.

I bowed my head in deep shame.

There was no way I could keep lying to myself.

If only I’d listen to Carson’s voice none of this would happen.

He wasn’t being strict.

He was only trying to protect me from myself.

“Carson.”

I whispered.

“I love you no matter what happens.”

“Ms. Woods.

Shame you had to do this.

Because you were in a great position of honor to us without even knowing this yourself.

But instead you have to be a traitor.

You choose to side with the weak.

Do you realize how outnumbered your dogs are anyway?

I’m giving you one more chance to bring your power to my side and save your friends here.

Just remember that I have the
upper hand
.”

The circle broke away.

Carson shifted back into his human form, our eyes locked.

He stroked my face.

Then grabbing my hand and raising it into the air he yelled, “We have orders for a retreat!

Go in peace until another day!”

Immediately everyone growled and leaped back.

The vampires did so reluctantly.

Carson took my hand and led me off with the werewolves.

I looked back one more time.

And the
pain held in those eyes was
unbelievable.

Galen was standing there.

I looked back from those blonde hair and blue eyes and studied Carsons tattoo.

Everything felt so confusing and painful.

So this is what it
feels like.

This is what I was warned against.

And this is what I had gotten myself into.

Chapter 11

“I love you,” Carson kissed my forehead.

“I don’t care what you are, where you come from but the future is now.”

“I love you too.

More than you know.

Sometimes I think I really don't deserve you but here we are.

So I guess it was meant to be.”

“Yeah,” he agreed.

“And I plan to have a normal week with you.”

There were about forty five werewolves.

In their human forms I studied all their beautiful, intricate, and now meaningful tattoos.

All the green eyes were so welcoming it was unbelievable.

My alabaster skin really shown out against the dark tan.

Loren, being the most enthusiastic, was the first to hug me.

Dimitri, Jeremy, and Regan gave me a little squeeze and pat on the back.

The others nodded in respect.

Carson’s
mom gave me a kiss on the cheek and
i
felt something wrap around my wrist.

It was a mirror image of the bracelet Carson had given me, it contrasted beautifully with the silver one from Galen. I looked into her eyes and mumbled a quick thanks.

Why were these people praising me for what I had just done?

“How did you guys in?” I asked.

Regan was the first to answer.

“We are in England.

Just a very rural area.

It is solar powered so it’s off the grid.

There's no
‘magical barrier’ or anything.

The big ben tower is just a convenience factor.

“So we run.”

Jeremy finished.

Right now I was wishing I was a fairy.

They could fly, well hover, wingless.

“Okay,” I said.

They all shifted into various size and colors of wolves.

Since it wasn’t the moon they could actually control themselves. I always thought it was interesting how
their
clothes just melted in.

In
the thick dense forest I still perfectly swung through all the trees.

The werewolves would burst through branches and everything gnashing their teeth viciously.

Suddenly we came into completely open snow plain.

I stopped feeling the heavy burn I felt.

The werewolves going so fast behind me had no time to stop and I was thrown to the ground with the last of them trying to leap over my crumpled body.

I watched a wound heal right then and there on my hand.

The blood just dissipated then dried.

The same process thousands of times faster.

“Snow,” Carson kneeled down beside me.

“It won’t kill you but it will drain you of all your energy.

So when you were running and suddenly got drained you were forced to immediately stop.” I grabbed his hand, brushing off my shirt as I stood up.

“Get on my back,” he told me shifting back into a wolf.

I clung onto his back with not much strength.

Immediately he took off also taking my breath away.

In seconds we were again in front of the massive pack. I buried my face in the thick fur and just waited it out.

It was about two hours of effortless running
before we came upon a small town and they all shifted back into
their
human forms.

When I looked back I was perplexed.

“How did you guys all get over here?” I asked.

“The boat from Alaska to
France
, then we ran.” Dimitri patted my back as I stood there blankly.

“And that’s where we return hun.”

Carson grabbed my hand and swung his black jacket around me and his arm around my waist.

And then he turned me to face him, and nodded for the others to keep going through the town in which we were getting odd stares.

He led me running behind a cinema.

He roughly pushed me up against the wall bracing his arms on either side of me.

“What the hell-” I started.

But then his mouth pressed forcefully against mine and my hands found his chest.

“I never felt such a need,” he whispered breathlessly through all the kisses.

He let go of me then held my face.

And will
i
ever forget the first and only time I had ever seen tears from those jagged green eyes?

This made me well up.

And there was nothing to say besides stand there and bite my lip.

“We’re going to save them.

The
Ric
c
olis
.

Just give me time.

Please Leslie babe.”

“Yeah,” I nodded and burst into tears.

I slid my body down the rough brick wall just for one moment of peace.

Carson kneeled down in front of me and whispered that we had to go.

We ran once again.

Not as fast or the town would be way too suspicious. Carson went off and talked to some people he knew
and I was accompanied by Loren.

“Hi Leslie.” She smiled swooping her red hair behind her.

“Hey Loren.” I replied.

“Nice to have some peace and quiet again,” she said as we were running at
sixty
miles an hour both in our human forms.

“Yeah,” I said. And gave a little laugh.

We were almost to
France
as it had been three hours with our extremely speedy travel.

The ferries waited in the distance.

We slowed down to normal speed now that we were beginning to merge with people.

The shimmery sea looked like it should have been a nice beach to have a summer at.

but
it was cold.

Really cold.

Vampires liking the cold?

Myth.

Werewolves liking the cold? Truth.
All fifty of us waited in the long line until finally one of the ferries were available.

Carson reconvened with me and grabbed my hand.

“How long does the ride take?” I asked getting really fidgety.

“Half an hour,” he answered.

“Are there sharks?” I asked.

“We’ll be safe,” he said.
