Anyway, this letter should be something that the two of you are looking at and telling each other how much you mean to one another.

Take the sticky note and frame it. I have a feeling that you need to see it every day. I have a feeling that you aren’t reading this with him next to you. My heart hurts for the both of us because of it.

Just an FYI. I’m putting this in the inner zipper of our suitcase, hoping that our workaholic tendencies have changed and I’m doing more travelling than working. One can dream, right?

Lynnia looked at Carlita and saw that she was just as broken up by the words as she was. The whole thing was too much. Carli spread her arms wide and Lynnia took the proffered gesture. Crying into her friend’s neck, she thought about the words that she’d written. It was there all along. Her younger self was far wiser than she even knew. If nothing else, twenty-two year old Lynnia knew better than her thirty-one year old self.

“Old or young you has the same guy in their minds, hearts, and souls. The question is, are you going to heed your younger self’s words or are you going to continue to allow both of you to travel this road alone? You know I lost my other half. You also know what it did to me. I don’t want you to live a life where you don’t know the beauty of having a whole heart is. It’s a lonely existence if you don’t have someone to share it with. Why would you willingly choose that for yourself when you have someone right there waiting for you to say the word and he’ll grant your every wish?”

“I don’t want it be where he needs me to say the word.”

“Bull! I don’t believe it. There’s more to it. You won’t get that happiness that you apparently wholeheartedly want …” she shook the papers as she spoke. “… unless you’re willing to take that leap of faith,

Carlita kissed her forehead then quickly slid off the bed. She returned to packing the bags as Lynnia looked at the sticky note. There were reasons why the hopes in this letter hadn’t come to be their way of life. It was a Sally Jessie Raphael show waiting to happen. Dr. Phil would love to have her on his couch. Lynnia knew she wouldn’t be having an Oprah’s

moment anytime soon. Some things were just too hard and too scary to deal with at this very moment. Her goal was to fixate on the trip and the days of relaxation that were coming. This letter and the male mentioned within would be here when she returned.
