“Please stop,” I begged, as my teary eyes stared at her deep warm red eyes. It was really painful.

Sadly, my words fell on deaf ears and the ring of fire spread across the room. I was forced to drop to my knees as I remained inside the ring. The scorching feeling of the heat tore across my cuts, and I clenched my hands into fists to endure the pain, while biting my lower lip.

After few minutes of silence, pain and staring at each other, the ring of fire vanished. I tried again to shuffle closer to her.

“I’m sorry,” she said. Her expression looked pitiful.

I got close enough to hold her, and moved my head towards hers with the intention of kissing her.

As I drew my lips forward, I felt nothing but the warm, gentle air pass over them. Lisa had vanished.

A Sneak Peek Into LS: Deception

Chapter One

The awaiting note

The veins in my left temple throbbed as I dashed back to my house, my shirt stained with my blood and my eyes soaked with tears. I could still feel the sharp pain from the cuts on my legs and arms. There was only one way to get rid of them: my diamond ring.

"Oh my God," screamed Stacey as I entered the house.

"I'm okay. It's nothing. Please, don't worry about me." I pointed at the car keys in her hand. "I can see you're going somewhere. Go have fun," I said.

She rushed towards me, placing her hands on her mouth. She'd never seen me covered in so much blood. I could see the fright in her eyes as she glanced at my shirt, her heart pounding.

"I can't leave you in the house alone. This is, I mean I'm scared," she said.

"Don't be," I replied, tottering towards the staircase.

"What should we do? Should I call an ambulance?" She ignored my advice.

"No. I'll be fine. I just need to get to my room."

Stacey inched closer towards me; her eyes were red and teary. "What happened?"

"No worries. I'll tell you when you get back. In the meantime, let me go clean up this mess."

"All right," Stacey sighed. "I'll be back as soon as possible. I just need to take Calvin to the college for his timetable."

I nodded, climbing up to the lobby and out of sight. Tottering towards my room, I met the door slightly opened. In a flash, I pushed the door aside and rushed into the room. My eyes scanned the entire room looking for any strange object or setting.
Someone must have entered the room
, I thought, because I didn’t leave the door open.

After a few minutes’ inspection, I stood in the middle of the room looking bewildered.

"Everything seems the same," I said. "Maybe it was just the wind, or perhaps Stacey. Nah, it can’t be Stacey. She doesn’t enter my room without my permission." I looked at the glass window. "Again, it couldn't be the wind."

I removed my bloody shirt and threw it beside the waste bin. My inner vest wasn't really soaked with blood, but I removed it as well. I felt so uncomfortable wearing them, plus the smell of the blood was irritating. I had to hold my breath from the minute I entered my stuffy room.

As I moved further inside the room the pain geared higher, causing me to twitch in pain. I rushed to my desk and began searching for the diamond ring. I checked the up and down drawers for the box where it lay, but didn't find it. Then I got up from the chair and moved towards the drawers beside my bed to look for it. It had been a while since I'd seen the ring, so I knew it was still in the room. I opened the drawer beside my bed and searched inside for the box, but again couldn't find it. It's funny how one can't find something when he's searching for it, but when he's not, the thing stares at him in the face. This was one of those moments. I had seen the box a while ago when looking for my wrist watch, but now I couldn't find it. It was frustrating. It felt as though my heart was an alarm clock, the way it throbbed immensely as I searched for the box.

Just then, something popped into my head.

"Oh, of course," I sighed, remembering the location of the box.

I ran into the closet and reached for the drawer under the pile of shoes. Opening it, I smiled and drew out the navy blue box. My hands were shivering as I held onto the box. Unlike the vault that held Lisa's necklace, this box was really cold. In fact, it was as though I was holding dry ice.  I opened the box and lifted out an unusual diamond ring. The ring was twice as cold as its case.

The minute I placed the ring on my ring finger, a warm current flowed through my veins. Slowly, my entire body's temperature began reducing. The deep cuts on my arms, chest and legs began healing as the diamond on the ring shone brighter. I could feel my strength coming back to me. I guess this was how Lisa felt when she wore the necklace.

I leaned back on the wall, staring at the huge mirror in front of me. My eyes were blue and glittering and my hair fell down my shoulders. It looked as though I had just taken a cold bathe. My entire torso was gleaming. I was whole again. I moved towards the clothing area of the closet and changed into a new outfit. Then I returned back to the bedroom to reminisce about the events of that night. There were so many aspects I needed to clarify. Firstly, was David really gone? I mean, did I really kill a human being? Secondly, how did Lisa rise up from the dead and then disappear right in front of me?

As I sat down on my chair crossing my legs against the desk, I noticed a paper beside my legs. I removed my legs from the table and reached for the paper. On it was inscribed, 'We need to talk – Lisa'.
