‘Hey, now. A declaration of love should have you crawling
to
me, not away from me.’

‘I have to crawl away,’ I said over my shoulder. ‘To do this.’ I pulled the hatch down and it latched with a soft thud. Then I pulled my sweater off and started on my clothes.

‘What is this? Are you seducing me, Ms Brite?’

A bark of laughter burst out of me. ‘I am seducing you, Mr Martin. Now hurry. Take your clothes off. We’ve been apart for far too long.’

He took my hand when I reached for him. Pulled me to him across the pretty grey carpeting. The remnants of my clothes were pale yellow panties and striped skull ankle socks.

‘Fuck me,’ he growled. ‘Leave the socks on. I love them.’

I yelped when he pulled me hard enough to tumble me forward, off balance. I landed sprawled across his lap, breathing hard. He still wore his boxer briefs and his cock poked me in the belly.

‘I think you need a spanking,’ he said. I thought he was joking but his voice was gruff. His finger dragged down the crack of my ass and, before I could reply, he’d pushed my panties down around my hips, baring my ass.

‘Dorian –’

His hand came down on my ass and the sound was what shocked me. A hearty crack that filled the small space. My whole body jerked and I became extremely aware of his cock beneath my belly again.

‘I mean, you broke my heart. You dated a … marble man.’

I laughed at that. A real belly laugh. Until he smacked me again and I jolted. ‘Dorian!’

‘I went to Paris with a woman who is destined to play a villain in a superhero movie. Her superpower is the ability to annoy a person to the point of suicide. She could wipe out whole villages just by subjecting them to her personality.’

I laughed again and he swatted me again. Streaks of fire blazed across the bare skin of my ass. I became painfully aware that we were in a vehicle, parked outside, in broad – though gloomy – daylight. I gasped then because he delivered another healthy swat and promptly drove a finger inside me. I was so wet, so willing, it slipped in with great ease and Dorian groaned. A groan from deep in his chest that suggested need and lust. It was my undoing.

I found myself arching my ass up into the palm of his hand. Wanting more from him. More punishment. More pleasure. More contact.

‘I missed you,’ he said, sliding a second finger into me.

‘I missed you. I truly did. I’m sorry.’

He gave me a half-assed swat but groaned again. ‘Come here, sweetheart.’

I moved up to straddle him again. He lifted his hips, shoved his boxer briefs down. Held his cock for me as I positioned myself, my breath barely real in my lungs, and sank down onto him. I took it slowly, wanting to feel every second of him filling me. My eyes wanted to dart away, I felt so vulnerable, but my love for him kept them pinned to his gaze. Eyes locked, bodies meeting, the world stopped turning and time froze.

When I had him all the way inside me, I leaned forward to kiss him. Dorian buried his hands in my hair and kissed me hard. ‘My God, I thought I knew how much I loved you. I really did. But I had no idea. Not until right this minute. What I feel for you … it’s so big … it nearly hurts. My soul feels full to bursting.’

A sob slipped out of me and I began to move. Rocking forward to take him. Every motion brushing my tender clitoris against his pubic bone.

‘Why are you crying?’

‘Because I know what that feels like,’ I whispered. ‘I know exactly what that feels like. I feel the same way.’

He brushed my hair back, kissed my forehead, my eyelids, my cheeks, as I began to move faster. He moved up under me, thrusting every time I rocked. Blood coursed heavy in my bottom where he’d spanked me. It was the perfect accent to the pleasure building inside me.

‘It all feels too big for one body … one soul … to hold,’ I whispered. I clutched his shoulders as I moved, holding on as an orgasm drifted towards me.

‘That’s why there’s two of us,’ he said.

I came. It was as fast and sudden as a lightning strike and it shook me to my very centre. My fingernails dug into his skin and he hissed but he never stopped moving and he never stopped kissing me. His lips worked warm, gentle patterns over my shoulder and my collarbone. He licked up my neck so that it was my turn to hiss. My pussy tightened up around him again and I knew that, before we were done, I’d come again.

‘Tell me you love me again,’ he said.

‘I love you.’

He grabbed my hips and yanked me down. Tenderness had fled in the wake of need. My nipples spiked against his chest, goose bumps erupted on my thighs. I drove my body down against his, wanting him as deep as I could get him. As hard as I could get it. I clenched my internal muscles around his cock and warm, easy pleasure turned to a more startling pleasure. We both gasped. Dorian caught my mouth in a kiss. It was as rough and as urgent as our coupling. He bit my lower lip and I bit him back, then sucked his tongue when he thrust it into my mouth. He’d wrapped both arms around my waist to tether me as he fucked me, and when I did that he yanked me closer. Drove up under me hard.

I was trapped in the cage of his arms, balanced on aching knees, and I’d never felt more beautiful, more wonderful … more loved.

‘Christ, why did you leave me, Clover?’ He buried his head against my shoulder and moved under me desperately.

‘Temporary insanity,’ I said, grabbing his shoulders, digging my nails in.

He growled and it ripped out of him – a wave of honest sound. Raw desire. The hair on the back of my neck stood on end. ‘Never again,’ he said.

‘Never again,’ I promised.

He reared back to look at me, tethering me to him – to earth – with the strength of his grip and the look in his eyes. ‘Promise me.’ He stroked his thumb across my lower lip. I darted my tongue out to lick it. Then sucked it hard enough to make him groan.

‘I promise.’

Dorian nodded once and then pushed his fingers into my mouth. I sucked them willingly. The way I wanted to suck his cock again. But there was time for that – no rush – we had all the time in the world. His other arm kept me tight against him as he moved beneath me. I tightened around him, giving in to my pleasure and my need.

‘Come with me,’ he groaned as I sucked once more on his fingers before kissing him deeply and sucking his tongue instead.

He didn’t need to ask me twice.

We put the hatch up and splayed across a blanket I’d had rolled up in the picnic hamper. I fed him a piece of lobster and he ate it. Then I licked butter off my fingers and sighed contentedly. The rain came down in metallic-looking slants and drummed on the roof of the SUV. It was the cosiest sound I’d ever heard.

The sound made me snuggle closer to him.

‘Now will you come to Paris with me?’

I pretended to think about it. My mother was visiting with Gram. But even if she weren’t, Gram was a big girl. She reminded me of it often enough. I realised I had issues with losing people. With them leaving me or me leaving them. I tried to hold everyone too close sometimes. I’d have to get over that.

‘I will.’

His face brightened. ‘And you’ll spend days with me in the sunshine. Seeing the shops. On the cobblestone streets. Eating bread that will actually spur an orgasm – I swear.’

‘Yes, yes and yes,’ I said. I laid my head on his shoulder and he stroked my hair. I turned my face up to him and he kissed me. ‘But you’ll be there for me?’

I realised I was afraid when I asked him.

‘Of course. Always, Clover. When life is good and when it’s not. Even when it’s boring. Or just blasé. I will be there for you every day.’

‘And when the night comes?’ I said, trying to smile, but thinking of some of the nightmares that still hunted me down once darkness fell.

‘Especially then. My goal is no more dreams for you. No more fear. But if I can’t make that happen, because I am just a man, I want you to wake up knowing that I’m there for you. That there’s someone right next to you to hold you when the bad memories come. And to hold your hand under the covers until they go away.’

I sighed and curled my body against his. ‘And I will protect you from a boring rich person’s life. I’ll make you do all kinds of things …’

‘Whoa, hold on now. Like what?’

‘Strawberry festivals at Gram’s church.’

‘I like strawberries.’

‘Brani’s yearly yard-sale nightmare.’

‘I can sell used knick-knacks.’

‘Boring normal life,’ I said, watching the rain.

‘Boring normal life sounds perfect,’ he said. ‘And maybe once in a while …’

‘What?’

‘Nantucket and Paris and um … well, I do have to go to balls, sometimes.’

‘I can do a ball,’ I said. ‘I can do just about anything now.’

‘Why’s that?’

‘My temporary insanity ended. I found what I didn’t even know I was looking for.’

‘And that would be?’

I could hear in his voice that he was smiling. I elbowed him. ‘Don’t be that way,’ I said. ‘You know damn well it’s you, Dorian Martin.’

‘I know. But sometimes a guy just likes to hear it, is all.’

‘You,’ I said, putting my hand flat against his belly. He covered it with his and we watched the rain pick up and the water turn a darker grey. It couldn’t have been a more perfect day.
