“You’re very arrogant aren’t you?” Paige asked.

“A pack would never follow me if I didn’t believe in myself,” he said with a cocky smile.

“It’s kind of off-putting,” she said.

“That is not my concern,” he said. “I cannot worry about the feelings of others at this juncture.”

“This juncture,” she said, appearing to turn something over in her head. “What are you going to do now?”

“Tonight I’m going to visit your friend Dario,” he said. “He’s the only lead I have.”

“I’ll go with you,” Paige said, her eyes growing determined. “What else do I have to do?”

“You want to put yourself in danger?” he asked.

“I don’t think Dario is the guy you’re looking for,” she said. “I think we’ll be ok.”

“If you go down this path with me there is no backing out,” Travis said. “It’s going to be a tough road, very dangerous.”

“I understand that,” she said. “I want to see this through to the end.”

“Why have you taken an interest in me?” Travis asked. “You think I’m arrogant and you’re scared of what I am.”

“I’m not scared of you,” she said. “I think it’s pretty cool actually. It shocked me at first, but I’m digging it now. Why are you so interested in me?”

“I haven’t spent much time with humans since I moved to Bowshot. Jacob told me they would fear me and hate me if they knew what I was. You don’t appear to feel either of those feelings towards me. Plus I think you’re beautiful.”

“You what?” Paige asked. Her face turned red and she hid her eyes from Travis.

He laughed, liking the effect he was having on her. His compliment had been carefully calculated, drawing her closer to him. “I said I think you’re beautiful.”

“I thought you would be into somebody a bit more, ummm, sleek,” she said, giving him a puzzled look.

“It is true you do not look like werewolf females,” he said. “However, there’s something about your curves that I can’t get enough of. Plus you have stunning blue eyes and beautiful blonde hair. Not many wolves have hair so blonde.”

“You’re sweet,” she said, pulling him in close for a hug. “I’m glad we met too.”

Travis could feel his erection growing again, restricted by the tight jeans he was wearing. He knew now still wasn’t the time to make his move, he had to be patient. It was hard being so patient with a human though. He had claimed her as his mate-she just didn’t know it yet.

Chapter 10

Paige watched Travis as he got up from the couch and walked down the hallway to the bathroom. She found her eyes travelling down his wide back to the tight ass that was hidden just behind his jeans.

When he left the room she took a deep breath, feeling her face flush.

You can’t get involved with him,
she thought.
You hardly know him and this is a whole world you’re not going to want to be involved in. He’s probably going to kill someone tonight when he goes to Dario’s house. If not then he’ll kill someone when he finds the wererats. Do you want to be involved in murder?

Paige shook her head and closed her eyes, trying to make the voice in her head stop. It was raising very valid points, but she didn’t want to overthink this situation like she did everything else in her life. She was already in deep learning his secret-something humans were not meant to know unless they were allowed inside the pack.

While waiting for Travis she got up and walked around her living room. Her eyes lingering on the bare walls, old mismatched furniture and dirty floors. She had always wanted a complete living room set and beautiful pictures on the wall. Unfortunately her paychecks only afforded her enough to pay her bills, put food on the table and maybe afford a new DVD or clothes.

She sighed and buried her face in her hands, this wasn’t how she pictured her life turning out at all. She had big dreams to run off to college somewhere far away and marry a rich man.

“I was supposed to have a big house and three kids by now,” she said.

“What was that?” Travis asked from behind her.

She jumped, not realizing she had spoken those words out loud. “Nothing, it’s nothing.”

“Are you sure you’re ok with everything?” Travis asked. “I appreciate your hospitality, but I can do this on my own.”

“What else do I have to do?” Paige asked, realizing how true and sad that statement was. “I just have my ratty trailer and boring job to do, I don’t even have a boyfriend anymore.”

“He mated with another female, right?” Travis asked.

“I wouldn’t exactly call it mating,” she said, chuckling. She was going to have to get used to his words and mannerisms; he was a complete mixture of human and canine. “He was fucking some bitch.”

“I guess I don’t see the problem,” Travis said, scratching his head. “In my society the alpha mates with many females to produce a diverse litter and to populate the pack.”

Paige felt her heart sink, even if he wasn’t fully human he was just like every other man. “That’s not how things work in human society.”

“It’s not?” he asked. “I have read history books. All of your great leaders of history, like Genghis Khan and Alexander the Great had huge sexual appetites.”

“You’ve read history books?” she asked.

“Jacob kept many books on hand in his cottage. He didn’t want us to completely lose sight of humanity. When a pack isolates itself from humanity its members can become feral, dangerous. He did not want that to happen to us.”

“That’s interesting,” Paige said, thinking about his words. Jacob sounded like a good leader, someone that was doing his best to make sure his pack retained their human side, even if the human side was arrogant. Or was it the wolf side that was arrogant? “I wouldn’t exactly call your examples great men though. They were bloody conquerors that eradicated whole civilizations.”

“This is not a quality you find attractive in a man?” Travis asked. A sly smile appeared on his face. “I plan on eradicating an entire wererat civilization.”

“You really think you can defeat them all alone?” she asked. “What if they do that lunar thing you were talking about?”

“I am stronger than any one wererat,” Travis declared, puffing his chest out. “I will crush them all in my jaws. My rage is righteous and I cannot lose with it on my side.”

“You should get help,” she said, worrying about his safety. He was going to get himself killed if he went at this alone.

“From who?” he asked. “Humans? Your brother? Don’t make me laugh.”

Paige grabbed her hair in frustration. “I don’t get you! One minute you’re hugging me and telling me that you’re happy we met and the next you’re laughing at humans. Newsflash, I am human!”

“I’m aware of what you are,” Travis said, a razor edge just behind his voice. “You however are not suggesting you are a warrior. I am a proud warrior, a proud alpha. I think you’re great and beautiful, but let’s not pretend human men are on my level.”

“You’re half human!” Paige screamed.

“Not by choice,” Travis said. “I did not like Jacob’s attempts to humanize me. You know why I wasn’t there when my pack was slaughtered? Because I was trying to hunt and kill my own food to eat. I did not want to eat peanut butter or whatever other processed human crap Jacob bought from your store.”

“So now it’s my fault because I sold him peanut butter and jelly?” Paige yelled.

“I never said it was your fault,” Travis said, crossing his arms and shaking his head. He narrowed his eyes at her before speaking. “Do all human women jump to conclusions and take offense when none is meant?”

“Will you quit insulting humans?” Paige asked.

“It’s kind of hard not to,” Travis said.

“You asshole!” she screamed. “To think I thought you were attractive! I was going to put my life in danger to help you out. What good would I have gotten out of it?”

“You could have been my mate,” he said. “Helping me repopulate my pack.”

“Until you got tired of me and moved on to another mate!” she said.

“The pack must remain diverse!” he said, appearing insulted by her words.

“That’s not how it works for me buddy!” she screamed. “One man and one woman! This isn’t fucking Utah!”

Travis stopped, his face turning three shades of red. She couldn’t tell if he was angry or embarrassed, but he took several seconds before speaking again. “I am sorry to have insulted you. It was not my intention. Forget I said anything about being my mate, I spoke in the heat of the moment. I am still learning your human customs.”

“Do you even want to learn human customs?” she asked. “All it seems you want to do is find these rats and this vampire, kill them and take your land back so you can start raising a new pack. By then you’ll be back in Bowshot, away from us humans.”

Travis’ face scrunched up, but no words came out. This was all she needed to know, he wasn’t serious about anything to do with humanity, he just wanted his revenge. His politeness was just an act, the arrogant wolf that she had just seen was his true self.

“Please leave,” she said, pointing at the door.

“Paige, wait,” he said, walking forward with his hands out.

“Please leave,” she said, recoiling from his touch. “I won’t tell anyone your secret, but I’m not the girl you think I am. I don’t want to be your mate and I don’t want to help you murder anyone. Those rats could be people I see and talk to every day. Plus Dario seems to be a good guy. I don’t want to help you kill anyone.”

“I told you there was no turning back,” Travis said. “My wolf has claimed you as his mate. I will wait until you come to your senses.”

“You claimed me?” she asked. “You can’t do that, I’m not a bitch in heat!”

“As I said, I will wait until you come to your senses.”

“I said leave,” she said, pointing at the door.

She turned away, no longer looking Travis in the eye. After several long, intense seconds she heard the door open and shut. When she turned he was gone, leaving her alone again in her shithole trailer.

“Alone again,” she whispered.

It took all of her strength not to collapse onto one of her dirty sofas and start sobbing.

LOST ALPHA PART 2

Chapter 1

Travis stood on Paige’s wooden front porch for a long time, hoping she would open the door and let him back in. He considered kicking the door and yelling, but after several minutes of silence he gave up and started to leave.

She’ll come back around,
he thought.
She has to, I’m her alpha. I’ve claimed her.

He started to walk by her little red car when he noticed the dent his body had left in the fender.

“Guess I’m lucky I wasn’t seriously injured,” he said as he rubbed his hand in the dent.

A devilish thought crept into his head as he continued to caress the indention his body made.

“She is mine,” he said, looking around for anyone else. Paige was still in the house and there was nobody else in the vicinity. Her home was surrounded by a wooded area with tall oak trees dotted over the landscape. Many of the leaves had begun to fall off leaving the ground a crunchy minefield, impossible to hunt on. He craned his neck to look down the hill the house was situated on, seeing the store she worked at in the distance. You’d have to be standing at just the right angle from the backdoor to see this far up. Nobody could see him; he was free to mark his territory. Without a second thought Travis unzipped his pants and pulled his penis out of his pants. He had just used the bathroom at her house, but his primal instinct instantly began releasing his musk on the fender of her car.

“You have been claimed by the Bowshot alpha,” he said as he finished up. “You don’t know what you’re missing out on. You will have love and protection like you never thought possible.”

Satisfied that he had made his point Travis stalked through the woods, looking for anything resembling the wererat scent. He was positive they lived in this town or around it, but he had to be sure. Tonight he would question the vampire about his motives; hopefully things wouldn’t turn violent just yet.

He spent the next hour walking through the woods, searching for any clue. There was nothing though, nothing for him to discover. Frustration began to set in; he didn’t want to
shift
in case he needed to be in human form soon.

“It’s hopeless,” he said, throwing his arms up as he stood alone in the middle of the woods, far behind Paige’s house.

Paige’s house,
he thought, his eyes traveling back in the direction it would be located.
Damn her.

Travis quickly realized he wasn’t finding anything because he couldn’t concentrate. Every time he envisioned the wererats and their beady eyes his mind replaced them with the beautiful sight of Paige. She was stuck on his brain and there was no way to get her off.

He imagined them together, in his cottage back in Bowshot, as she got down on all fours in front of him. Her round, curvy ass looked amazing from behind and he couldn’t wait to mount her. In his fantasy he got down behind her, sliding his large cock deep into her wet, juicy, receptive pussy. She moaned in pain as his massive girth stretched her out. He was the alpha, so he didn’t care if she was in pain; he was going to give it to her however he wanted. With his powerful hands on her hips he began to thrust himself into her, repeatedly banging into her rear as he slammed his rigid mass into her warm hole. Eventually the cries of pain went away, replaced with moans of pleasure as she got used to his size and thrusting power. She would moan and bang on the ground, wanting him to spill his seed into her. When the time finally came he let out a great howl and released everything he had into her.

Travis realized he was standing in the middle of the woods, one hand rubbing the outline of his manhood through his tight jeans.

“I need to get her back,” he said. “I can’t let her get away from me.”

It was as if she was already imprinted as his mate in his mind. He was powerless to fight instinct, but he felt something else for her, something beyond the prison of mating. Sometimes a wolf was left with a mate he didn’t even like, but because he was captured in the thrall he was forced to copulate and take care of the female. He didn’t feel that with Paige, he actually wanted to be around the human. He had enjoyed her company over the last day and he wanted to spend more time around her.
