‘Careful or I’ll come,’ he cautioned her.

Hastily Pattie removed her mouth and then pulled her feet up onto the seat, spreading her knees wide apart and opening herself up to him. ‘Don’t you want to touch?’ she asked teasingly.

Phil groaned and then fell on her, his fingers sliding inside her. She was very damp and within a couple of minutes, as he moved his fingers around inside her while rubbing at her clitoris with his other hand, she came, and he felt her internal muscles tighten around his fingers in pulsating contractions.

‘Now I want you inside me,’ she muttered. He spread himself over her, his feet jammed awkwardly in the space behind the driver’s seat. It was like being an
adolescent again but that only increased the excitement, giving the whole affair an added urgency. As he started to move his hips, his hands grasped her breasts through the thin strappy T-shirt she was wearing and he squeezed the perfectly sculpted flesh.

Pattie was squealing even louder now, bucking furiously beneath him, and suddenly he felt that he was losing control. ‘I’m sorry, I’m coming,’ he cried.

‘Me too,’ squealed Pattie, and almost immediately he felt her tighten around him as her muscles spasmed and she cried out in an ecstasy of delighted abandonment. ‘Gee, that was great!’ she enthused. ‘You Brits are terrific once you let your hair down.’

Phil felt suddenly awkward. ‘I wish we could do it somewhere where we had more room, and more time.’

‘This was fine. I like a quickie.’

He felt slightly deflated. ‘So do I, but I’d love to have more time with you.’

‘You will have,’ she promised him. ‘Jay’s gone back to the States for a few days. We’ve got the whole weekend ahead of us.’

‘But what about Davina?’ he asked.

‘You don’t want to worry about Davina,’ said Pattie
as the pair of them got back into the front of the car and Phil pulled out of the lay-by. ‘She hasn’t been faithful to you while you’ve been away.’

Phil couldn’t believe his ears. ‘What do you mean?’

‘I mean she’s been having a good time, like you and I had a good time just now.’

‘With Jay?’

Pattie gave a gurgle of laughter. ‘With all of us, honey, with all of us.’

Phil looked at her in astonishment and nearly drove into a ditch. ‘I don’t believe you.’

‘I don’t care if you believe me or not. Ask her tonight. She doesn’t tell you lies, does she?’

‘I don’t know,’ confessed Phil, wondering if the whole world had gone mad. ‘She’s been a bit odd lately, but …’

‘By lately do you mean since Jay arrived?’

Phil nodded. ‘Yes.’

‘Then work it out for yourself.’

‘But she resents him. He’s taken what was rightfully hers, he …’

‘Are you sure Davina’s really that worried about her inheritance?’ asked Pattie. ‘Seems to me you’re the one
who resents Jay. I can tell you one thing for sure, Jay’s got the hots for Davina.’

‘I can’t imagine that man having “the hots” for anyone,’ said Phil crossly. ‘It’s not in his nature.’

‘It wasn’t,’ admitted Pattie, ‘but he’s changed. Not that I mind,’ she added, running the long fingernails of her right hand up the inside of Phil’s left thigh and scratching lightly at his crotch until he began to tremble. ‘I think perhaps I’m turning into an Anglophile.’

‘For God’s sake stop doing that or we’ll have an accident,’ said Phil. ‘Look, I’d better drop you off here. You can walk the last bit, can’t you?’

Pattie laughed. ‘What’s the matter? Are you afraid Davina’s going to be annoyed if she thinks you’ve given me a lift? I tell you, honey, after what’s been going on while you’ve been away she’s not going to make trouble about anything. She’s going to keep quiet and hope you don’t ask too many questions.’

‘I’d still prefer you to walk,’ said Phil regretfully. ‘I don’t want to start the weekend off badly.’

‘Okay.’ She was clearly not fazed in the least by his lack of nerve. ‘When am I going to see you again?’

‘I don’t know.’ He wished that he did, wished that he
could arrange a meeting now so that he had something to look forward to, but he couldn’t think how it would be possible to get away from Davina.

‘Leave it to me,’ said Pattie, leaning over and kissing him full on the mouth before getting out of the car. ‘I’ll think of something.’ Phil drove on, watching in his driving mirror as she grew smaller and smaller. He hoped that she was right. Sex with her was far more exciting than it ever was with Davina.

Usually when he arrived on the Saturday morning Davina would be waiting to greet him at the cottage door, but this morning there was no sign of her. He had to ring twice before she even realised he was there, and when he stepped into the hall she kissed him on the cheek in such a casual manner that he could have been her brother rather than her lover.

‘Anything wrong?’ he asked.

Davina shook her head. ‘No, why?’

‘It’s not much of a welcome that’s all.’

‘Oh, I’m sorry, perhaps I’m a bit tired.’

‘Been busy working?’ he asked.

Davina nodded. ‘There’s a lot of intricate work involved, that’s always tiring.’

Phil was certain she was lying. He was no fool; he knew that things had been changing between them ever since Jay’s arrival but today she seemed positively indifferent to him. ‘Not missing Jay, are you?’ He couldn’t keep a note of sarcasm out of his voice.

‘How do you mean, missing him?’

‘Well, he’s away in the States and … ‘

‘How do you know that?’ Her eyes were sharp.

Phil could have bitten his tongue off. ‘You told me over the phone,’ he muttered lamely.

‘I most certainly did not. You’ve been talking to Pattie, haven’t you? When?’

‘She was on her way out as I drove through the main gates. I stopped and exchanged a few words. She mentioned it then.’

‘Why pretend I told you?’

Phil was thrown on the defensive. ‘I got muddled.’

Davina glanced out of the lounge window. ‘You certainly did. If Pattie was on her way out as you drove in she didn’t go very far. She’s coming back now. I wonder where she’s been?’ Before Phil could say anything Davina had opened the window. ‘Hi, Pattie! Did you go to the post-box?’

Pattie shook her head. ‘I’ve been for a long run. I’ll probably go to the post-box later if you need me to take any letters for you.’

Davina shook her head. ‘That’s all right, thanks. You’ve already been very helpful.’

‘I have?’ Phil could understand the American girl’s bewilderment.

‘Well?’ demanded Davina, turning sharply on her heel and facing him once more. ‘Are you going to tell me that she was setting off on this long run only three minutes ago?’

‘I don’t see why I’ve got to explain anything to you,’ said Phil. ‘From what I hear you haven’t exactly been a paragon of virtue yourself.’

‘I don’t know when you talked to Pattie,’ said Davina slowly, ‘but she certainly seems to have shared a lot of information. Look, Phil, I know you’re keen on her and there’s no point in pretending you’re not. I don’t mind. I’ve got to be honest, things aren’t the same between us any more and she’s very attractive. The thing is, I’m not very keen on being used.’

‘Used?’ Phil couldn’t believe his ears. ‘I’m the one who’s been used. I’ve been coming down here at
weekends, sharing your bed and helping you through the loss of your uncle, then the moment my back’s turned you’re off screwing that American guy. Talk about irony. First he screws you metaphorically over the house, then you literally screw him.’

Davina looked shocked. ‘That’s a horrible way of talking. Anyway, he didn’t “screw” me over the house as you put it. Uncle David left it to him, and he was perfectly entitled to do so.’

‘You’re not denying you’ve been sleeping with him, are you?’

Davina shook her head. ‘No.’

‘I knew it when I saw the pair of you in London.’

‘I didn’t know you’d seen us.’

‘You’re not the only one who can keep a secret.’

‘What are we going to do?’ asked Davina.

Phil sat down. ‘I do like Pattie, but I’m hardly in the same league as Jay Prescott, am I? I don’t think there’s any more chance of her agreeing to marry me than there is of Jay wanting to marry you. All the same, I’d like a chance to see her for a bit longer. Suppose I sleep in the spare room on the weekends?’

‘What if Jay finds out?’ asked Davina.

Phil felt suddenly angry. ‘I don’t think he can say much considering the fact he’s been having it off with my girlfriend, do you?’

‘I’m not sure it’s that important to him,’ said Davina casually.

‘What do you mean?’

‘I mean that they have a very open relationship. They’re all the same. They seem to believe in complete sexual freedom, even within marriage.’

‘You mean Todd and Tanya screw around?’

Davina frowned. ‘It sounds horrible when you say it like that.’

‘What other way is there of saying it?’

‘They enjoy experimental sex,’ explained Davina. ‘It’s difficult to be that experimental when there are only two of you, so naturally from time to time they …’

Phil couldn’t believe his ears. ‘You haven’t been doing it with all of them, have you?’

Davina shook her head. ‘Of course not,’ she said quickly. ‘Surely you know me better than that?’

‘I’m beginning to think I don’t know you at all.’

‘That makes two of us,’ she muttered.

Later, as he unpacked in the spare room, Phil wondered whether he’d been wise to put his cards on the table quite this soon. It was true that Pattie had promised to arrange meetings for them over the weekend, and now he wouldn’t have to worry about making excuses to Davina. However, once Jay returned or Pattie tired of him, Phil would be left with nothing. He was still secretly clinging to the hope that eventually the Americans would return to their own country, leaving Davina free to live in the main house. Until this morning he’d fully intended to be at her side when this happened. Now he’d blown all chances of that, but when he thought of Pattie his pulse quickened and he realised that if it all went wrong he’d have no one to blame but himself. He was the victim of his own lust for the gorgeous Californian blonde.

‘I can’t believe it,’ said Tanya to Todd, climbing into bed the following Friday night. ‘I was sure Jay would be back tomorrow. What reason did he give for staying on in the States?’

‘Work.’

‘I don’t believe him, do you?’

Todd shook his head. ‘Not entirely. At first I wondered if he’d got wind of the fact that Pattie had spent the whole of last weekend making love to Phil, but I doubt if that’s the reason. Firstly Pattie wouldn’t have been stupid enough to tell him and secondly he doesn’t care enough for her for it to matter.’

‘Then what is it?’

‘I think you know,’ said Todd. ‘He’s in love with Davina, isn’t he?’ said Tanya. ‘He’s in love with her and he doesn’t know what to do about it.’

‘He’s not comfortable with emotions,’ explained Todd. ‘He never has been. Bostonians are like that. They believe that revealing emotion shows a lack of breeding.’

‘I’m glad you’re not from Boston,’ giggled Tanya, running her hand down her husband’s stomach and fondling his erection.

‘So am I. All the same, it’s a pity about Jay. He and Davina really suit each other.’

‘Why don’t we do something drastic then?’ suggested Tanya. ‘Something so unexpected that Jay would be forced to admit his true feelings.’

‘Like what?’

‘It involves you,’ murmured Tanya, sliding on top of her husband and rubbing her body up and down his until he was groaning with pleasure. ‘The thing is, are you brave enough to do what I’m going to suggest?’

‘Probably not if it’s going to make Jay mad.’

‘You’re his boss.’

‘That’s work, this is play. For Christ’s sake, let me inside you.’

Tanya shook her head teasingly. ‘Not until you promise to do what I ask.’ Raising herself up she allowed him inside her for a fraction of a second then lifted herself off so that he was left thrusting his hips upwards, his face twisted with desire.

‘All right,’ he moaned. ‘I’ll do it. I’ll do anything as long as I can take you now.’

‘You promise you won’t go back on your word?’

‘Yes,’ shouted Todd, then he gripped his wife’s slim hips and pulled her down hard until she was sitting astride him, his erection buried up to the hilt in her comforting warmth. He used his hands to lift her up and down in a rhythm that suited him, while she angled herself forward a little to gain maximum stimulation.
‘Have you any idea how much I love you?’ gasped Todd, feeling his orgasm approaching.

‘Of course I have,’ she said gently. ‘And I love you too. That’s why I want Jay to be happy. I want everyone to be as happy as us.’

‘I don’t think that’s possible,’ he gasped, and then he was spilling himself inside her just as Tanya’s head flew back. The tendons of her neck stood out like whipcords as, for a few seconds, she teetered on the brink of orgasm before finally reaching her climax with a moan of delight.

‘So what’s your plan?’ Todd asked her a little later as she lay curled up in his arms. Tanya whispered in his ear and then laughed because, as he listened to her, Todd’s previously flaccid penis began to stir.

‘It looks as though you’re not just going to agree, you’re going to enjoy it as well,’ she said with a laugh.

‘Isn’t that allowed?’

‘Of course it is,’ she assured him. ‘It should make it all the more effective.’

‘But how do we get the timing right?’ Todd asked his wife.

‘I’m going to ring Jay tomorrow and say that I think
he ought to come back and see what’s happening for himself. Knowing him he won’t waste any time. I think we can safely assume he’ll be here by Sunday night.’

‘Sunday night it is then,’ agreed Todd. ‘I hope for all our sakes this works.’

‘I hope so too,’ said Tanya. ‘I really like Davina and Jay, and …’

‘I’m just hoping Jay doesn’t kill me,’ said Todd.

‘I won’t let that happen,’ Tanya promised him. ‘Let’s face it, Todd, whatever happens, you’ll have had a good time.’

‘Yeah, and hopefully Davina will too.’

Tanya looked thoughtful. ‘You’ll have to coax her, Todd. It isn’t the sort of thing that will come naturally to her.’
