âAnnika, it's forty-five minutes for lunch. I know your brother just arrived, butâ¦'
âI am sorry,' Annika said. âI was at Security; I had to pick up my new ID.'
Lifting up her lanyard, she offered it to Caroline.
âWell, next timeâ¦' Her voice trailed off. âAnnika Wyatt?'
Her neck almost snapped as she turned to Ross, then back to Annika.
âWe just got married,' Annika explained, as if that was what people always did in their lunch break.
It seemed the strangest way to spend your wedding day, and no one but the two of them would understand, but there was freedom, real freedom, as she excused herself from the little gathering, smiled to her husband and colleagues, and did what she had fought so hard and for so long to do.
She started to live life her way.
