Chapter 18
Rose felt like she was almost blinded when she came out of the tunnel. The sun’s bright rays hit her in the eyes. She put one hand up over her eyes to shade them while she used the other hand to hold the coat closed. The tunnel went directly into the ocean but there were steps on the side. She followed the first man out grateful to be out of the water, but she still fell pretty weighted down. She was motioned to come forward and face another man, one she hadn’t seen before.
“Who in Kitana is that?” the third man demanded angrily.
One of the men that had brought her spoke up. “RolAN, this is the Prima Lindsey.”
The man called RolAN snorted. “That is not the female KadEN has taken as his mate. His mate has brown hair and she is swollen with the mixed breed.” He paused as he approached Rose. He stopped in front of her and gripped the sides of the coat, yanking it open. “This is
not
the same female!”
The man that had pushed her through the tunnels for what seemed like hours shoved her again. “Why did you not tell us who you were?”
“Right, like I’m going to inform my kidnappers they took the wrong person. You are an idiot on top of being an asshole!” Rose yelled back.
The man slapped her face, hard. “You do not call me names you worthless germ infected alien.”
“Enough!” RolAN called out. “Where is the female Lindsey.”
“Hopefully safe and sound with her mate.”
“We need to leave immediately. The mission was a failure.”
“Wait! Don’t leave without us!” A male called out as he and another ran from around the side of the cave.
Rose immediately recognized that guy was the prisoner from on board the transport and the man following him was interrogator StrykER. She looked at StrykER but he shook her head letting her know not to talk to him. What was up with that?
“Who are you?” RolAN and the other two rebels pulled their weapon. Then one of the rebels lowered his. “It’s okay, he’s one of ours that was captured on the transport.”
RolAN didn’t lower his weapon. “Who is the male with him?”
HarvEY stopped holding his knees breathing hard. “He’s a defector who helped me escape. Show them the marking.”
Rose watched silently as StrykER pushed his sleeve up and turned over his arm. While the other rebels were looking at his rebel mark, he glanced at Rose. She didn’t know what he was up to but having them there made her feel a little better. Besides being soaked and pale and the slap to make sure she was okay. She knew she looked half drowned and pale with a new bruise on her face; otherwise she was fine.
“I wasn’t told about another rebel being on Kiljor.” RolAN said suspiciously.
“I’m recently recruited by HarvEY.” StrykER told him.
“You can’t trust this male. He works for the Prime leader.” One of the other rebels said.
StrykER glared at the other male. “I have first hand knowledge of how KadEN and the other leaders have lied to our people. I am no traitor. I believe in the true leader of our people and his message. I have information he needs.”
“What information?” RolAN asked.
“I can only reveal that to the rebel leader in person.”
RolAN thought it over. “Fine, you come with us. We need to leave immediately.”
“What do you do with this female?” The man standing next to Rose called out.
RolAN gave Rose one disgusted look before he said, “Kill her. She’s no good to us.”
Oh shit! Rose had to act quickly. While everyone else was looking at StrykER she head moved her arms out of the arms of the coat. She gripped the edges of the coat and swung it at the male holding the weapon towards her. She caught him by surprise and he fell backwards. She took off running. She glanced back once and saw StrykER stick his foot out causing one of the rebels to trip when he tried to run after Rose.
“Sorry.” StrykER said as he bent down to try to help the male up.
“Get her!” RolAN called out.
The male that was knocked down by Rose got up and took off after her. “I’m going to enjoy killing that female!”
HarvEY pointed to the opening of the tunnel. “We have to get out of here now!”
*****
JadEN heard the male threatening his mate and went into protective mode. He took off in the direction that he spotted Rose running to. He didn’t care what happened with the rest, he had to get to his mate and protect her.
His heart raced as he watched helplessly as Rose fell over some rocks. The male chasing her jumped at her and landed on her. He had to get to her. He had to kill the other male.
*****
Rose felt the air leave her lungs as the man chasing her landed on top of her. She tried to shove him off of her. He was too heavy and too strong. He took her wrists in a bruising grip with one hand and held them trapped above her head.
“Let me go!”
“You have been nothing but trouble since we took you. I’m still furious over you fooling us into believing you were the prima. You will pay for it. I had planned to use your body while traveling to the meeting place.” He ground himself against her.
True fear spread through her entire system making her freeze. He was going to rape her. She could see it in his eyes. When she felt him stiffen against her she thought she was going to throw up.
“Rose!” She heard JadEN calling her name.
Rose watched in shock as JadEN attacked the man on top of her, throwing him in the air away from her. She sat up but didn’t try to stand. She was rooted to the spot as she watched JadEN, in a crazed state, begin to pound on the guy. She did throw up when she heard a crunching sound when JadEN twisted the guy’s head until he broke his neck.
“JadEN.” She called his name right before she passed out.
Chapter 19
“Rose?” JadEN her his name and let go of the head he had in his hands. He looked down at the dead body. He had done that. He had killed a male with his own hands. He turned to look for his mate and saw that she wasn’t moving. He rushed to her side avoiding where she had vomited. What in Kitana had the male done to her?
He knelt on the ground and pulled her into his lap. “Come on beautiful, wake up for me.” He didn’t like how cold she felt to him. He shrugged out of his coat and wrapped her in it. Then he took his shirt off and used it to clean her face. His pants pocket he pulled out the medical scope and scanned her. She had a low temperature and a few bruises on her face and arms. Other wise she was unharmed. Thank the Goddess.
“Is your mate okay?”
JadEN looked up to find CristOF watching him. “She is unconscious but fine.” Their attention was caught when shuttles flew overhead.
CristOF smiled. “Commander TylOR and the reinforcements have arrived.”
JadEN lifted Rose up into his arms and began walking back towards the cave. When they got closer they paused as they watched StrykER knock the other security guard out. Then HarvEY, StrykER and the other Rebel ran to get inside the shuttle partially hidden inside the cave
“Stop them! They’re going to get away!” JadEN yelled out. But it was too late, the shuttle took off and somehow evaded being shot down.
“JadEN?” Rose started to wake. “What happened? I feel like I fell from high up. I hurt all over and I can barely move. Are you okay?”
“Easy my love. I’ve got you.” He kissed her forehead. She still felt chilled. Wearing wet clothes was not helping matters. He turned to Commander TylOR as he approached them. “We need to get her back to the medic wing and into dry warm clothing.”
“I have spare warrior clothes on board my shuttle. It might be too big for her but it is dry.” TylOR told him.
“Yes she needs to bring her temperature up.” He didn’t wait but headed for the shuttle. He walked up the ramp and waited for TylOR to come on board.
“Sit, I’ll get the clothes.” TylOR opened a compartment on the wall and pulled out a pair of flight suit. He placed it in the seat next to JadEN. “I’ll close the door and give you privacy.” He then turned and left the shuttle closing the shuttle door behind him.
He helped Rose to lay her hid on his shoulder. She was shivering and she rubbing herself against his warm skin. He wanted to warm her with his body, but they needed to be skin to skin.
“Come on my love. Let’s get you out of these wet clothes.”
She giggled. “You are always trying to get me out of my clothes.” Her giggles turned into hysterical laughter then turned into tears.
He held her close against him. “Shhh... it’s okay. I have you now. Please my love, I can’t take your tears.”
“I was so scared that I would never get to see you again. I thought that I was going to die. I knew I was prepared to fight to the death before letting them take me off the planet.”
“I am so proud of you for staying strong and for fighting for your freedom. You are very brave.”
“I didn’t feel brave. I was scared the whole time.”
He kissed her forehead. “You helped to protect Prima Lindsey but getting her up that tree.”
“Lindsey! Is she okay? I hated leaving her but I had to try to lead the rebels away from her.”
“She is safe. I treated her before I came after you. I feared for your safety after seeing some of your clothing in the water tunnel.”
“You went into the tunnel after me?”
“Absolutely. I will always come for you. You are my mate, the love of my life, the other half of my soul. I will give my life for you to keep you safe.” He wanted nothing more than to make love to her slowly so that she knew exactly how much she meant to him. But her shivering reminded him of where they were. “Let’s get you dressed in some warm clothes.”
“Yes please. I can’t stop shivering.” She let him help remove the buttons to her shirt and push it off her shoulders.
He watched her as she hesitated about removing her bra, she finally made the decision to take it off. He helped her remove her underwear as well. He had to fight every impulse not to take her right then.
She looked up at JadEN. “I need to feel your touch JadEN.” She lifted his hands and had him cup her breasts. He hesitated at first His hands were very warm. “JadEN.”
JadEN reluctantly released her breasts but the look he gave her was full of concern. “This isn’t the time or place. Let me get you home so that I can take care of you properly,” He held up the flight suit.
“You’re right.” She took off her pants and underwear and got into the flight suite. She laughed at how long the legs and sleeves were. “I must look like some kind of rag doll.”
“You always look beautiful to me. If there weren’t warrior outside this shuttle, I would take you right now.”
“It’s not hard, you are beautiful. Here, sit back down. You are still shaking.” He took her into his arms and held her in his lap.
“What’s happening? Did they catch the rebels?”
“One is dead, one I saw being secured, and the prisoner and other rebel along with that traitorous StrykER have evaded capture.”
“StrykER left with the other rebel leader?”
“Yes. I cannot believe he would betray his people like this.”
“I don’t think he did. He motioned for me not to act like I knew him and when I ran off, I think he delayed the others from chasing after me.”
“Well he didn’t do a good job because you were still hunted down and hurt. Then you had to witness me killing the male.”
She cupped his cheek. “I’m so sorry you had to do that.”
“I’ve never killed anyone before.” JadEN admitted the emotions running through him. The biggest was fear that she would not see him the same way.
“Sometimes we have to do things to protect ourselves; it’s instinct, self-preservation.”
“I was protecting you. I had gone into protective mode. I couldn’t think of anything else except getting to you and keeping the other male from hurting you. I didn’t even think about what I was doing except I would not let him hurt you again. I saw him on top of you and...he had to die. That bothers me greatly.” Kitana. Why had he confessed that to her? She would surely fear him now, think him a murderer.
“You saved me, JadEN. He would have raped then killed me. You have nothing to feel guilty for.”
He pulled her tighter against him at the thought of what the male would have done. It made him glad for killing him. He knew that was what would have happened. He hated that Rose had to face that terrifying moment before he showed up.
“I wish you never have had to face that kind of danger.”
“You can’t protect me from life. Bad stuff happens to people all the time. I survived and that is the most important thing. I survived because of you.”
“You are my heart.”
“Can we go home now?” She laid her head on his shoulder.
“Yes of course.” Jaden pulled her tight against her. If his people had not brought Rose here, she would never have been in this danger, or hurt like this. He swore he would make sure nothing like this happened to her again.
