A bath sounded divine, but her rooms didn’t boast that extravagance, only a small stand up shower cubicle. Not that she wasn’t completely healed, her friends just didn’t know that. Both Sky and Joni had better accommodations than she had due to their parents being higher up in Keith’s hierarchy. Their alpha would still slit their throats if he felt like it, but he needed them since they provided money to their pack. Sky’s parents were lawyers, a needed attribute in their world, while Joni’s were the technical geeks who kept Keith up on the latest gadgets. They were like the step sisters in the fairytale, while she was Cinderella. The thought made her giggle. She had no Prince Charming who would ride in to save her. One day her time would come, when Keith decided she wasn’t worth keeping alive and end her. Until then she would enjoy what life she had, and lying around in bloody clothes, stinking to high heaven wasn’t on the agenda.

She wished she could hang out with them like regular girls. Go out and have drinks. Dance at the clubs and meet guys. Their world wasn’t normal. Sky and Joni’s parents would never allow their girls to go anywhere with Keith’s thing. Their fear for what he’d do to them if something happened to her, or their hatred for her because of what she was, made it impossible. Taryn accepted the fact she had no pack outside of her rooms. Joni and Sky loved her as much as they could, would even go against their parents if her life was at stake, which they’d obviously done to stay with her. But she’d never put them in danger. Again. They couldn’t handle the beatings she could from Keith. Seeing their pain was worse than feeling her own.

No, Taryn would rather be friendless than have to witness Sky or Joni’s tears, or hear the sound of their bones being broken.

T
aryn made her way through the throng of people. Bike week in full swing at Sturgis made it easy for her to blend into the crowd at the largest biker’s bar in town. She loved the anonymity that came with the thousands of people who flooded the small town each year.

The music throbbed a sexy beat, reminding her of the last time she’d been in Chaps, surely a stupid move, but a girl was allowed to be stupid every once in a while. As she got closer to the stage where the band was playing, women were more than half naked, screaming like a bunch of banshees. Taryn looked over her shoulder at the ladies she’d come with, making sure they were keeping up with her.

“We are so not taking our tops off, Taryn,” Darian yelled in her ear.

A snort escaped Taryn. She’d met Darian and her motley group of friends a few weeks back at the library studying for exams. When they’d noticed Taryn sitting alone on a nightly basis, the women had decided she needed rescuing. Now, she led them to the front, knowing if they needed rescuing she’d be the one to save their asses.

She looked at the outfits each woman had on, then at her own daring ensemble. Yeah, none of them had much to take off, yet they all had on more than the women at the front of the stage.

“Get your asses up here ladies, and don’t puss out on me,” Taryn yelled, dragging Jenna and Kylie along. The band ended one song, only to start another.

Unable to get to the front, she and her friends moved to the side where a dance floor afforded them a view, but also allowed them the chance to get their groove on as Kylie loved to say. When she saw the way the girl started bopping to the music without a care, she joined her. A raucous round of giggling ensued, and then all four were dancing.

Taryn didn’t notice they were drawing attention as they danced to song after song, letting the beat carry her away. She loved music, could lose herself in the rhythm for hours. Looking up toward the stage, her eyes met the dark orbs of the one man sure to set her body aflame. He stared at her while he twirled the drumsticks in both hands, never missing a beat. His lips moved, singing along to the song, every now and again she could see the piercing on his extremely long tongue.

She licked her lips, his eyes seemed to follow the movement, narrowing as a guy bumped into her back. His black eyes flared, the eyes of his wolf apparent.

Panic made her stumble into Darian. “Excuse me ladies. I need a drink. Be right back.”

She didn’t wait around for them to say anything. Her fight or flight instinct kicking in like prey caught in a predator’s sight. Not that she thought Jett of the Mystic Pack even knew who she was. With all the people crowding the bar, there was no way her scent could reach him, she assured herself. Standing in line to get a drink she got her nerves under control.

After ordering four bottles of beer she made her way back to the dance floor. A DJ had started playing, giving the band a short break. Taryn handed each lady their drink, accepting their thanks with a smile. Not seeing the band, or the wolf, she decided she would not think of by name, Taryn sat her empty bottle of beer on the closest table.

“Oh, who knows how to do this line dance?” she asked. The song playing was an old one that was sure to get everyone up and dancing. Jenna jumped up and down, grabbing her hand as they shoved their way to the middle of the sawdust dance floor right in front of the stage.

They whooped and hollered along with the crowd, shaking their asses in miniscule denim skirts and cowgirl boots. Where Jenna was a little more covered with her boyish figure, Taryn drew more stares with her voluptuous curves, purple hair and tattoos. She color coordinated her black and purple tank to match her hair and topped it off with her favorite black boots with purple snakeskins. She didn’t have a lot of money, but she knew how to buy things on sale.

Shimmying to the beat, they took it down low, slapping the floor with the palm of her hand, she laughed at the look on Darian’s face as she made sure her knees were held together. No way in hell was she going to flash her panties to the crowd of onlookers.

“Why didn’t you beotchs join us?” Jenna asked.

Kylie began doing what was known as the peepee dance. “Who’s going to the bathroom with me?”

Taryn didn’t like the thought of being left alone, and just the mention of the bathroom had her bladder waking up. “Let’s go. You know what they say though. Once you break the seal.”

They laughed as they weaved their way toward the ladies room.

J
ett smelled spiced honey and sin through the crowd of sweat and beer. He looked up from the borrowed drum kit, searching for the source. Usually he’d get lost in the music, knowing he’d have a line of women waiting to do whatever he wanted to them, with them. However, only one woman drew him like none other. The one who nearly caused his alpha to lose his mate. The one he allowed to distract him when he needed to stay focused.

He’d caught her alluring scent while he’d been guarding the man who’d been sentenced to pack law for trying to kill Alaina. His moment of weakness allowed Rickard to escape, making him look like a pussy in front of the alpha. Even now he didn’t feel as if he was worthy to be part of the pack. He, Niall and Zayn were more like brothers, but since they’d become mated, Jett felt more like a third wheel.

A flash of purple hair caught his attention off to the side of the head banging crowd. He wanted to toss his drum sticks up, leap over the stage and demand answers from her. Jett lost sight of her as the crowd moved, but he inhaled, sitting taller on the stool. His inner wolf taking note of where she was. Their eyes met again, he watched her lick her lips, making his dick hard. He imagined his own mouth tracing the same path. Truly not the smartest thing to do while sitting behind the drums.

When the band took a break, he jumped up, hoping to find the woman in question.

“Hey, Jett, will you dance with me?”

Jett looked down to see a beautiful blonde girl. Girl being the optimum word. He thought of asking to see her ID. The wristband proclaimed her to be at least twenty-one and her body definitely appeared old enough. She tugged him onto the crowded floor, pressing her enlarged breasts into his chest, clearly uncaring his sweat was drenching the front of her top.

He moved with her to the slow beat, their lower bodies coming together. His dick deflating as his wolf didn’t like the overpowering scent of perfume on the girl in his arms. They continued their dance, knowing they were drawing a crowd. Jett didn’t mind. He’d been called many things, and a show off was only one of them.

Hips grinding into hips, a slow glide of his hands on her back, he brought their bodies flush and then moved them away. Just as the song ended, the blonde wrapped her arms around his shoulders and attempted to kiss him. He turned his cheek so her lips landed on his jaw at the last second. “Thank you for the dance, gorgeous.”

Her sigh brushed against his chest. “After you finish with your set, how about we hook up?”

Shit, he should totally jump all over what she was offering, yet his body didn’t seem on board. “Not tonight. I’ve got to get up early.” Yeah, he sounded like a pussy.

Her hand ran down his chest, heading straight for his nonexistent erection. “You sure? I guarantee a good time will be had by all.” He grabbed her hand before she could reach her destination, shaking his head and murmured a response that had her pouting.

After walking away from a sure thing, Jett raised his head and sniffed the crowd, searching for the one who did make him hard. The overwhelming smells of so many bodies with their perfumes, sweat, and alcohol kept him from the one he wanted. He hoped like hell she was still there, and if she was he’d find her, and find out who she was and what she was up to. If she was a threat to his pack...Jett didn’t know what he’d do. Man and wolf both wanted to fuck her in every way imaginable, but pack law insisted he ensure the safety of his fellow members. If he found out she threatened anyone in the Mystic Pack, he would have no choice but to bring her before the council.

A growl rumbled up from his chest at the thought of anyone but him touching her. “Get your shit together.” He shook his head as he stepped up behind the drum kit, earning side glances from the band. “Sorry, I thought I recognized someone.”

Paz, the lead singer snorted, his spiked red hair bobbed on his head while his tall lanky frame walked past him. “That blonde you were dancing with? I’d say she recognized you, too.” He brought his hand down and grabbed his crotch. “If you ain’t gonna take advantage of what she’s offering, I’ll be glad to take her off your hands.” Smiling, Paz showed off his pearly whites.

Jett pointed one drumstick at Paz. “Have at it.”

The blonde in question stood at the front of the crowd and Jett watched as Paz strolled to the edge of the stage and squatted down. His hearing allowed him to catch bits of their conversation over the crowd, barely restraining the eye roll at Paz’s over the top compliment and the girl’s delighted squeal. Groupies loved attention from the band, and Jett usually took advantage of what they offered as well. However, tonight he seemed to only have eyes, ears, and nose for one troublemaker.

He told himself it was because she’d caused him so many problems and he needed to get himself back on track. However, he had a feeling things were about to get even more screwed up with one wild wolf.

By the time they were almost finished with the final set, his wolf was itching to get out. Something wasn’t right. He sat up straighter on the stool, looking out at the crowd. The bar was full to bursting, people having gotten their last drink when last call was announced. He’d been unable to recapture the elusive woman’s scent who’d had him salivating like a teenager, but he knew she was still there. Jett wasn’t sure how he knew, he just did. He wrote it off as a personal vendetta since she’d almost cost his alpha’s mate her life, since her presence had made him take his eyes off of the enemy long enough for him to escape the council circle, therefore allowing him to almost kill Alaina a few months back. Jett was the one who was in charge of watching Rickard, the man who had come to Mystic with the sole purpose of killing Alaina, Niall’s mate.

Twirling the sticks in the air, he played the last few beats without thought, sweat poured down his temples and chest. When the final notes of the song floated out of Paz’s mouth the crowd cheered. Jett thought of tossing the group in front a souvenir, but dismissed it almost immediately.

He pulled his tank up and wiped his face off with the end. As he stood back from the kit, he noticed a new and pungent smell. Reaching out on the path to his alpha, Jett let Zayn and Niall know there was trouble in Sturgis. Although it was technically a neutral territory, the scent that hit him like a freight train was a mix of shifter and drugs. One he’d smelled only one other time, and that had been when Cora had almost been taken from Zayn.

Zayn, I think the asshats that tried to take Cora are here at the bar I’m playing at.
He gave them the name of the bar, and didn’t have to wait before he heard back.

How many are there?
Zayn’s calm voice let him know he didn’t need explanations.

Jett inhaled, trying to pinpoint where the smells were coming from.
Fuck, man, there has to be at least two hundred people in here or more. I’d wager there are at least a half dozen of the shifters. These fuckers don’t travel in pairs.

That’s because they’re pussies and need to use a circle to jerk off.
Niall growled through their link.

With his back against the concrete wall by the stage, Jett watched the crowd begin to disperse, and then he caught a glimpse of a woman with dark hair with streaks of purple in it. Spiced honey and sin came to him as he locked onto her weaving through the crowd. One of the women in front of her stumbled into a big brute of a man who gripped the young woman around the waist. The purple haired vixen touched the man’s arm, and he watched in fascination as she got up in his face on her tiptoes as if she was prepared to take him on. The conversation between the man and the two women becoming one no longer amusing as muscles in the arm holding the woman flexed, letting Jett know he had no intention of releasing her any time soon. The smaller woman’s right hand flexed by her side into a tiny fist. He pushed away from the wall, forgetting about the rogue wolves.
