As soon as Brian left, Kate burst into tears. Brain, the man I love...might be a spy... common thief...what in the name of fuck can she do. All night Kate stayed awake waiting for him, hoping to hear the sound of his car pulling up or the sound of his key in the door. She slept fitfully. In the morning, there was no sign of him. She checked her phone. Nothing! No messages; text or email. She made herself a cup of coffee, and since she didn’t want to eat breakfast alone decided to get the morning paper outside the door.
The headlines were blaring... “5 Caught In Cargo Truck Heist”...Kate gasped. Oh my God, My darling Brian. She read further, ...5 men, now being held at the Police Headquarters, were caught after they hijacked a cargo truck belonging to SERV Trucking...she dropped the news paper and started sobbing. Her mind was in a mess. She finally deiced that she cannot just abandon the man she loves. Kate can’t remember anything, but, somehow she got dressed, got in the car, and the next thing she knew, she was right there in front of the police headquarters. There were a lot of activities going on with the press all around. As Kate climbed the stairs leading up to the door... “What do they do with people when they are arrested? Do they put them in jail...or set them free? Maybe I can bail him;” Kate wondered.
As Kate was looking for anybody to talk to she saw a familiar face... “Kate! What are you doing here?” it was Brian.
“
Brian! Oh sweetheart, I don’t care what you’ve done! I love you; Brian...I’ll stand by you. We can hire the best lawyers and get you out of this! I read about it in the newspaper,” said Kate all at once as she started to cry.
Brian grabbed her
hands and hugged her. “Sweet heart, don’t cry...I haven’t done anything except trying to save my company from certain destruction,” said Brian. “You’re, not in police custody? You were not arrested. Oh Brian, I knew you weren’t one of those awful thieves! I just knew you’ll do the right thing on the job,” said Kate with relief in her voice.
“You mean you didn’t read the
whole story. It’s all there in the newspaper. Oh Kate, I own SERV Trucking. I had to pose as a truck driver to get the information I needed...,” said Brian
“What!” Kate said. Brian continued
“I even had to tell you a little white lie about my family, especially about my father. Really sorry I had to that... I didn’t want people to come around asking questions and blowing my cover, said Brian.
“You’ll have to explain that white lie later. Right now I’m just so glad that you are fine.
I love you so much,” Said Kate.
“How would you like to go on a belated honeymoon? I hope you say yes...and thanks so much for having so much faith in me!” said Brian as he hugged Kate and held her tightly in his arms.
