1. A study conducted by Illinois University on plantations in several countries—including Brazil—indicates that sugarcane plantations have worsened global warming, while a study conducted by São Paulo University’s Center for Nuclear Energy in Agriculture indicates that soils on sugarcane plantations remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere (Gomes, 2010a).
