Holly’s Crush

Crush

An intense, burning desire to be with someone you find very attractive.

***

Holly had been living in her new apartment for nearly a week the first time she noticed the man who lived directly across from her. She was getting home late Friday night after a long day of work when she caught the first glimpse, and she knew that vision of him walking down the hall would forever be etched in her brain. He was absolute perfection – longish, dark hair with smoky grey eyes, chiseled cheekbones, full kissable lips. He was wearing jeans and a black t-shirt that showed off every muscle; such basic clothing, but on him it looked nothing short of amazing. He was simply…delicious.

Her heart rate took on a mind of its own, accelerating and throbbing in her chest, driving an unexpected spark to electrify through her. Her cheeks flushed and she quickly looked away, although the chances of him even seeing her were unlikely. Since he was taking on the phone and seemed so preoccupied with his call, she was able to resume watching him walk to his door without him noticing. Her body buzzed at the realization of him living so close.

“Damn, that man is hot,’’ Holly muttered as she let herself into her apartment. She dropped her keys on the table and immediately went to pour herself a big glass of wine.
She plopped down on the couch and grabbed the remote, ready to watch some mindless TV, but her thoughts kept wandering back to the guy she had just seen. Never had there been a man to have such an immediate effect on her before and to say that it confused her was an understatement.
A man is the reason I left to make a fresh start and I certainly don’t need to be thinking of a new one right now.

She abandoned the remote for some music, hoping it would be more conducive for unwinding, and settled in for the night. Sipping her wine, she sat back and let her mind drift over everything that had brought her to this point. It felt exhilarating to be starting a whole new life, one that did not include her ex-fiancé, Brian. After three long years together, she had finally come to the conclusion that she just couldn’t do it anymore. They had seemed compatible enough; they rarely argued, so that wasn’t the problem. There was just something about him that she couldn’t put her finger on. He was well-liked, generous (to an extent), and God knows he had more money than he knew what to do with. He also could be arrogant at times and he had this way of making her feel that she was not quite good enough without ever saying a word. On top of all that, she didn’t feel any passion with him. When she began having panic attacks from the thought of spending the rest of her life with him, she knew she had to get out. Once the decision was final, and as soon as she was able, she moved out of their place. She didn’t expect a scene from him and that’s exactly what she got; no tearful good-byes or begging her to stay, but he was vain enough to tell her that she would never find anyone better than him and she’d regret her decision someday.

The wine was starting to make her eyes droop, so she placed the half-empty glass on the kitchen counter and went into her bedroom. Holly lay down on her bed and closed her eyes. She was so happy, so full of possibilities that came with having a brand new job, living in a brand new city, having a brand new life that was all her own. She wanted to savor the experience of being alone for awhile and was definitely not ready to be thinking of another man, no matter how fine his ass looked in those jeans. If only her body would shut-up and do what her mind was telling her, she might be able to follow that plan.

Holly awoke the next morning from the warm sun streaming through her window. She felt too cozy to get out of bed yet, so she reached over to grab her diary out of her nightstand.

First Saturday in my new place – what a week it has been! Haven’t written in awhile since I’ve been so busy unpacking. I am almost all settled in to my new apartment and my job seems to be going well so far. It’s not the most stimulating, but I have no reason to complain. Amy & Lexi seem nice from work – glad to have some new friends here, someone other than “our” friends. They invited me to go out soon for a girl’s night, really looking forward to that.

Holly sucked at the end of her pen and stared at her diary while trying to clear the cobwebs out of her head. She wasn’t a very good morning person and no amount of wishing would change that. She’d often wondered how much more productive she could be, if only she could just drag her butt out of bed earlier.

Okay, so what’s the story with that smokin hot guy I seen last night? I can’t believe we are neighbors. I wonder if he is married or has a girlfriend…or maybe he is gay and doesn’t want a girlfriend. Not that I even care, right? But then again, I did suffer through a pretty dull relationship for a loooong time and I should be willing to cut myself some slack, what am I, 80? I bet Mr. Sizzler across the hall there could provide some excitement in my life. Shut-up Holly! I do not need to be thinking about men or sex or sexy men. I need to be taking this time to rebuild my life without any complications. Alone doesn’t have to mean lonely. Maybe I should look into getting a cat…

She placed the diary back into the drawer and forced herself to get up and make some coffee. She felt a bit silly and juvenile sometimes for still writing in one, but figured there could be much worse things than that. Expressing her thoughts and feelings on paper seemed to keep her sane. It sounded more adult to call it a journal, but that was just semantics. Basically it was a diary, just like the one she wrote in when she was thirteen, confessing how she had let Joey Anderson stick his tongue in her mouth, but denied him access up her shirt. He had repaid her by telling everyone the next day about how much of slut she was and how she’d give a blow job to anyone who asked. Ahh, good times.

She made her way to the coffee maker and went over her plans for the day while measuring out enough beans for a few cups. She opened up the fridge and noticed that she was out of milk.
I guess I know what I’m doing today.
Grocery shopping was one of her least favorite chores, but she couldn’t put it off any longer if she actually wanted to eat. She took a quick shower, downed several cups of strong black coffee, and set off for the store.

On her way out of the building, she passed by the apartment mailboxes. A small adrenaline rush shot through her as she realized that she could find out hot neighbor guy’s name.

“Okay…Apartment 2B…where are you…?” Holly mumbled to herself as she scanned the mailboxes. “2B or not 2B, that is the question I’d like to know.’’ She giggled loudly. She’d definitely had WAY too much coffee this morning.

“Yes! Here it is,” she said a bit too loudly.

An older man, whom she did not recognize, walked by and gave her a strange look. She wondered how long he was there watching her laughing and talking to herself. Her excitement quickly died down while she stared at the box. Some of the letters had fallen off and all that remained were the letters A N T S.
What?
She decided that she wasn’t in the mood to play word games this morning, so she didn’t even bother trying to figure it out. Although, she couldn’t resist wondering what it would be like to have ants in her pants. Sometimes she worried that she humored herself way too often.

Why do I even need his name anyway?
Holly wondered.
It’s not like I’d do anything with that information besides stalk him on Facebook.
With that final thought, she headed out to the local mart. Fortunately, it was within walking distance and it was a gorgeous day. She felt lucky to have found a place that was in such a great location, close to a variety of different shops. She really only needed a car to get back and forth to work.

Less than an hour later she was back at her door holding an overflowing bag of food for the week. “Now where did I put those keys?” Holly asked herself, as she held the bag with one hand and fumbled around in her purse with the other. Finally she found them, not in her purse, but in her coat pocket. Catching on a large snag when she pulled them out, Holly lost her grip on the groceries.

“Damn it!” She yelled, as she watched the carton of milk tumble out and spill into the hallway, along with the sour cream and onion potato chips, triple chocolate chunk cookies, and various vegetables (to balance out the junk food). While she was bent down picking up the food, she was startled by the sexiest voice she had ever heard; it felt like liquid nectar pouring down on her. Her eyes remained on the floor for a moment before looking up, allowing her attention to be drawn to the man’s rather large shoes. Pulse racing, she
knew
without a doubt whom that seductive voice belonged to.

“I think this belongs to you,” said sexy ANTS with a grin, handing her an extremely large cucumber.

“Um…thank you,” Holly said as she snatched it back.
Oh God, please let me die right now.
“I think I have everything now. Thanks.”

Holly quickly opened her door, flung herself inside, and threw down the bag. “Fuckfuckfuck,” she said as she banged her head against the door. Feeling like this was definitely an occasion for both chips and cookies, she grabbed them and sat down with her diary (journal) for the second time that day.

SO mortified right now! I finally come face to face with scorchin hot neighbor guy and what happens? I drop my grocery bag, along with a ginormous piece of produce and he hands it back to me. I could barely look him in the eye! He looked amused. I could have at least found out his name. I could barely talk to him - what am I, in grade school? Good thing that I’m not looking for a man right now, even one that has the most amazing smoldering eyes. They are such a beautiful color – grey with tinges of blue. And I noticed a small scar above his right eyebrow…definitely sexy, very masculine. Those eyes could turn me into a mass of quivering Jell-O. Get a grip on yourself Holly! I swear my panties got damp from being so close to him for, like what, 30 seconds? I think I need to buy a vibrator tomorrow…

The rest of the week passed by uneventfully; Holly was busy working at the small accounting firm and it kept her mind occupied with menial tasks. She had found the job through a temp agency, filling in for a woman out on maternity leave. Even if it was just for three months, it was still something.

Her nights consisted of coming home, more often than not pouring herself a glass of wine (or two), and usually falling asleep on the couch while watching some sappy romance movie. She did not run into her neighbor again, which in a way, made her feel relieved. She didn’t want to see him again if she was just going to act like an immature, blushing schoolgirl.

The only variance to her week was on Wednesday. She forced herself to step out of her comfort zone and drive to the adult store after work to buy a vibrator. She used to have one, but somehow lost it…although, she always suspected that Brian found it and got rid of it. She had gotten that one through the mail, but since she didn’t want to wait so long for a new one to arrive, she had no choice but to suck it up and get herself to Your Pleasure Chest.

It was dark out when she arrived, and she could see the store lit up from a block over. If the look they were going for was trashy, they certainly nailed it.

She parked the car and walked up to the building, determined to get out of there as quickly as possible. She wasn’t sure exactly what she wanted, but figured it wouldn’t be too hard to find something. She walked in and was completely dumbfounded. There was no free space here; every inch of shelf and wall was covered with any sexual item that you could ever imagine, and ones you couldn’t.

“What can I do for you?” a boy asked, looking way too young to be working there. He should have been home eating milk and cookies.

“Just looking right now. Thanks.” She hoped that he wouldn’t ask her again. She didn’t feel that comfortable being there, much less talking to a kid about sex toys.

She looked around at all the clear packages hanging on the wall, which contained a multitude of vibrators in all kinds of shapes, sizes, and colors. Holly wondered why someone would want a neon hot pink dildo, although if it glowed in the dark, it could come in handy as a backup flashlight. There were anal beads, pussy bullets, double-sided strap-ons (for his and her pleasure), and foot long glass dongs. And that was only in the first section of the store. Holly was awestruck.

She wandered through the party supplies, making a note that if she was ever in the market for a stuffed fuzzy penis to accentuate her couch, she knew where to go. However, the gummy peckers just made her hungry, so she moved on to the furniture section. Fascinated by all the love swings and bondage beds, she wondered how some of these things were physically possible, unless you happened to be a Russian contortionist.
