I don’t have time to reply with words as he quickly descends onto my mouth. My lips part as his tongue enters slowly, wrapping around mine. I place my hands on his arms pulling him in closer, if that’s even possible. My fingers dance over his muscles, his arms are the size of perfection and hot with lust. I run my hands over the rest of his body wanting and needing to take him.
Shit, I can’t do this. Can I do this? I’m going to get hurt. No, I can’t get hurt. I pull away from him and adjust my blouse.
I hate this blouse.
“I really need a drink. I’ll see you later.” The room is spinning and I take in a deep breath.
“Abby wait.”
“I want more Evan, I want the fairytale, I want it all. I’m not interested in being a notch on a bed post. I want something real.”
What the hell just came out of my mouth?
The alcohol is seriously taking over.
“Hey!” Evan yells.
I don’t stick around to listen. I can’t think clear with him in my space and I desperately need a clear head before I do something I’m going to regret.
As I walk towards the bar I notice the two men from earlier are clearing a path. I make my way to the bar. I’m getting a little curious about these two. I raise my brows.
“Excuse me?” I say, standing on my tiptoes.
“Yes ma’am?”
“Why do you keep appearing everywhere I go?”
“Ma’am, we are just doing what we’re told,” he says while looking towards the balcony, clearing his throat.
I follow his eyes and see Mr. Mysterious. I feel very annoyed that some man is sending his “suits” to what, watch me or stalk me?
“Why?” I ask, crossing my arms over my chest as I look to the two for answers. I’m curious, but I’m also very annoyed.
This may be sexual tension. Yea definitely.
“Let’s get your drink ma’am.” The larger of the two men says.
We approach the bar with people gathered everywhere, instantly there is a bartender handing me a Rum and Coke. I didn’t even need to order. I pull my clutch to the bar to pay as the bartender speaks.
“It’s on the house.” He walks away and the two gentlemen ask if I will follow them.
I am definitely intrigued, so, against my better judgment I decide what the hell, I would like to have a few choice words with their boss. I nod my head and they lead the way.
We are walking towards a set of stairs that lead to the balcony I saw earlier. Just as we approach I notice two brunettes being ushered down the stairs and their glare almost sizzles my hair as they pass. They are pissed. I look around in that moment to search for Amy, but she’s nowhere to be seen in the crowd.
Maybe this is a bad idea, really bad idea.
As I walk up the staircase the two men walk in front and behind me. My heart speeds to the pace of a NASCAR race car and pounds in my chest as hard as a bass drum. When I enter the large balcony Mr. Mysterious reaches his hand out to me, I take it because I really don’t know what else to do.
He’s leading us to a large dark sitting area and we approach two white couches. There are a lot of people here and as soon as we walk to the couch on the right the large men escort the other ladies down the stairs. And when I say
“ladies”
, I’m using the term loosely.
“Please sit and make yourself comfortable.” His eyes are dark. “Abby, do you like your drink?”
I actually haven’t even taken a drink yet. “Mm...” I smile, taking one, and then move my stir straw around in my glass, looking at him through my heavy lashes. How does he know my name and what drink I usually order?
“So you very strangely know my name and drink, but I know nothing about you,” I say as I sit up in my, I’m-a-confident-girl kind of way.
He eyes me as he adjusts
his
body back into the corner of the couch.
I’m affecting him
.
“I do, your friend Tallinn told me a few things.” He grins.
“Oh, you know Tallinn?” Ok, that makes me feel better about Mr. Mysterious.
“I do, yes.”
Well at least someone knows him. My inner sexy girl is wiping the sweat from her forehead. Maybe he
isn’t
a stalker. I smile, but only because I feel uneasy and kind of scared.
“And you went to the same high school?” he continues.
“Yea, so you know something about me.” Or maybe he’s stalker material after all, geez. “Tell me something about you,” I say, biting my bottom lip and twisting the ring that sits on my left hand.
He adjusts his right foot over his knee, lifting his eyebrows as he looks at me. This man can’t be more than twenty-five. A chill runs over the exposed skin on my arms.
“What would you like to know?” His eyes are hard on me again and I’m pretty sure he’s undressing me with them.
“Your name?” I ask
His eyes jump to mine now.
“Donovan,” he stutters.
So that girl from the bathroom is talking about
him
.
Really?
Inner sexy girl rolls her eyes, not impressed.
“And the two men that brought me up here?” I turn my head, nodding in their direction.
“Paul and Michael, they’re my security.” His? “I own this club.” He answers my silent question.
He continues to watch me, but really it feels like he’s glaring and I’m beginning to feel uncomfortable again.
I don’t know why, but the pins and needles attacking my stomach are a good indicator I should go. I stand to excuse myself.
Why am I here? I don’t even know this guy.
“I need to go. My friends are going to be looking for me.”
Oh friends please be looking for me!
The second I speak I see Donovan look towards the taller dark-haired security guy and when he does, the man disappears down the stairs.
“There’s no need to leave, I’m getting them for you.” He leans in closer to me. “I’m really not interested in letting you leave right now. We are…” He waves his hand in front of us. “Just getting to know one another.”
I excuse myself again. I’ll be damned if some man with an ego trip tells me what he’s going to let
me
do.
I begin walking towards the stairs when I see Amy, Dominic, and Evan walking up the stairs.
“See here they are, all is good,” Donovan says.
Amy walks over to where I’m standing and pulls me to the white couch. “What in the hell are we doing in Donovan Damassi’s lair?” she whispers.
“Who the hell is Donovan Damassi?” I eye her questionably.
“You’re fucking kidding me right?” she whispers. “Doll I know that you are not that dense.” She rolls her eyes and grabs my arm.
“This is the same guy from the airport,” I defend myself.
Why am I defending myself?
“We need to go NOW,” Dom whispers.
Just as Dominic speaks to Amy, Evan grabs me by my waist and walks us towards the stairs. The two large security guards stand over Evan, stopping him.
“I don’t know what you think you’re doing here Damassi, but Abby isn’t for sale like these other whores.” I stare at Evan as the veins in his thick neck pulse as if he’s going to kill someone right here and now. I’m not sure if he’s claiming me for himself or if he’s genuinely concerned.
Amy walks over to where Evan and I are standing close to the stairs. “We’re leaving right now Mr. Damassi,” Amy says in a fierce yet please-don’t-kill-me kind of way.
“Well, what seems to be the problem? We are just hanging out.” He reaches for my hand. “Abby? I thought you don’t really know this guy? Did I hear you wrong?” He seems just as surprised as I am by my friends’ crazy overprotectiveness.
“Um…I think it would be better if we go,” I say as he takes my right hand and pulls me towards him. He cups my face with his hands, slowly pressing his lips to mine. OH MY GOD!
“Can I call you?” he whispers as his lips graze my ear placing one hand on the hollow of my neck and the other on the small of my back.
“I need to go,” I whisper because I can barely move, talk or breathe and I know I need to get out of here.
“You’re wet for me Abby,” he says, ignoring Evan the fact that Evan is standing over him. This isn’t a question, because he
thinks
he knows the answer, but I’m not turned on, I’m pissed off and a little freaked out, but mostly pissed off.
“How dare you!” I pull away and my inner sexy girl reaches her hand up and slaps Mr. Mysterious hard on the face.
“Let go of me.” I pull away.
“Ok.” He drops his hands and nods to the two security guards that stand in the way of the stairs and they move. “I
will
be in
touch...
Abigale Hayes.” His eyes are intense and say he’s serious.
Evan grabs me as we all walk down the stairs.
“Dom, you good to drive bro?”
“Yeah definitely.” Dom nods
“I can drive.” What the hell? I know that guy was way off of his rocker, but I’m not a child.
“Get in,” Evan opens the rear passenger seat door
I huff as I slide onto the leather. Evan closes the door and walks around to the driver’s side. A smile emerges from the open door.
Ok so I’m not going to lie his bad boy bossiness is kind of a turn on. I won’t say that out loud though.
Evan slides in next to me and the wave of air that breezes throughout the rover just as he closes the door has his scent wrapping around me. What is it about an amazing scent that has ever nerve ending at attention? I don’t know what it is, but I love it.
Evan’s hand is sitting on his right thigh and his leg nervously bounces up and down. I wonder if he is actually nervous or if this is just something that he does.
I was so busy watching Evan out of the corner of my eye I hadn’t noticed Amy talking about what had just taken place in the club.
“WHAT. THE. HELL?” Amy asks with her voice elevated a few octaves.
“Do you have ANY idea who that is?” Evan’s voice is hard.
“What? I didn’t do anything wrong guys, I’m a grown ass woman and DO NOT need permission to hang out with a man!” I yell right back as I lean to my right putting some space in between us.
I’m pissed, but I did get a creepy vibe from that guy so I kind of understand what they are so upset about. Regardless of how I feel about him though, it doesn’t give them the right to talk to me like this.
I didn’t do anything for them to talk to me like I’m some sort of child and who the hell do they think they are?
“Well? Who the hell is he?” I hiss.
“He’s Donovan fucking Damassi, his father was a crime boss before he was murdered.” Amy speaks when no one else does turning herself around to glare at me.
“I’m not hearing you say that he’s a crime boss though.” I don’t like it when people compare me to my genius parents and I don’t think it’s fair that they blame him for something his father did. “Just because his dad was a bad guy doesn’t make him a bad guy.” I glare back.
“You don’t know this man. You need to stay away from him. Promise me you will stay away from him,” Amy begs.
“Why did we go to a club that he owns if you freaks are so scared of him?” This makes absolutely no sense to me.
“Abby, he doesn’t approach random women. He usually has them brought in from outside sources,” Evan answers.
“Whores!” Amy snickers.
I’m kind of snickering quietly to myself over Amy’s comment when Evan slides his hand to my left leg where my hand is sitting. All of the butterfly moments I’ve had in my life attack at the same time his hand takes possession of mine. Nerves, butterflies, and I really don’t know what else this is. The feelings that I instantly feel when he makes contact with me are so foreign that I find myself unable to explain them.
“We haven’t ever really thought about the fact that he owns it because he’s never had any interaction with us, I guess.” Dom shrugs. I’m quiet the whole way home and no one else speaks either.
We arrive to my apartment I walk in and throw my clutch and keys on the couch. I continue to the bathroom, stepping out of my hooker clothes and start the water for a hot bath.
I lie surrounded by the suds with my eyes closed, remembering the kiss from two different men in one night that lingers on my lips. This is the first time I have been kissed since Marco.
“Marco.” I sigh.
I don’t understand what he can be doing. He has told me he doesn’t even have family in Brazil. I cry, wondering why he would leave me, maybe for another woman. Of course it is another woman. She’s probably rolling out of his bed wearing only a sheet right this minute. The tears swell in my eyes and break through my protective hold.
I cover my face with my weak hands. All the work I have put into suppressing the controlling urge to crawl in bed and cry for the rest of my life is breaking like a twig. The floodgates open and I can’t stop it.
Evan
“We’re leaving, take care of my girl.
But
, if you fuck with her I will kill you. Got it?” Amy says.
I like this girl.
Because I think she actually
would
kill me if I hurt Abby. I smile.
“Got it,” I answer. “Alright bro, give me a call and let me know what’s up,” I say to Dominic as we fist bump.
“Definitely bro. Come on sexy,” Dom says as he smacks Amy on the ass hard as hell.
“Shit! How would you like it if I did that to you?” Amy screams.
“Woman you know you like it rough.” Dom snickers.
“Really Dom? Really? You gonna put it out there like that huh? Bye Evan I’m going to go kick Dom’s ass now.”
Dom and Amy walk out the door and I walk into the kitchen to hunt for a bottled water.
I twist the lid on the bottle and sit on the couch. I can’t believe that shit just went down. That girl attracts the worst of the worst.
Shit!
My phone rings. “Yea?”
“Well that was fun,” Natalia says sarcastically. “Didn’t mean to cause you any trouble earlier though. Did she get pissed that you were talking to another woman?” Natalia continues.
“Nah all’s good. This is just a first date after all.”
“Ha, yea for her it is, but for you it’s a sweet dream come true eh. Was it everything you hoped it would be?”
“It’s not over yet.” I smirk.
“Ok good. I was really worried,” she sighs. “I’m sitting in a dark alley by the way. I think I’m going to have to start charging you more for my impeccable services,” Natalia says with a little bit of sarcasm and playfulness. It’s just her way.
