His tongue swept into her mouth and he wrapped his arms around her back, pulling her tight against his chest. Locked into place she couldn’t move and a frustrated whimper bubbled from her throat. He swallowed it with a groan.

He devoured her mouth, sweeping his tongue inside with broad hard strokes. Harper tried to move her hips, to ease the ache that was pulsing between her legs but he held her firm. She growled and the damn man chuckled before pulling his head back and burying his mouth in her neck.

His teeth nipped along the sensitive column, making her entire body break out in goose bumps. When she tried to move her legs, his arms locked her tighter against his body. He held her immobile, running his teeth then his tongue over her neck, up under her ear.

“Damn you,” she panted. No matter how hard she tried she couldn’t get any friction where she needed it. She was hot and wet and so ready for him. “Ethan, please.”

“Fuck,” he growled. “So sweet.” He dragged his lips back to her mouth and took hers in a hungry, toe curling kiss. “Maybe we should go to the bedroom?” he managed to get out.

If he didn’t do something right now, anything, she was going to go out of her head. Her skin felt too tight and every time he touched her with his lips, she thought she was going to implode. He held her pressed down against his straining cock and it was enough to make her eyes roll back but not enough come like she wanted to.

“Right here, right now.” She pulled her head back and met his stare. His eyes were dark and heavy lidded, filled with barely controlled lust. It made the ache throb harder. “Please.”

“You made me wait when I texted you before. Maybe it’s time for some payback.” He lifted his hips and rocked just a couple of times before stopping. The evil light in his eyes made her grind her teeth. He was playing with her and she wanted to strangle him. And ride him like there was no tomorrow.

“Or maybe we can both stop playing games and see what happens,” she told him.

His dark chuckle only fueled the fire burning in her gut. Fine, he wanted to play dirty, she would play dirty. She leaned away from him just enough to reach the hem of her shirt and before he knew what she was doing, pulled it over her head. She hadn’t put on a bra earlier. Her nipples tightened as they brushed over his shirt covered chest and she arched back, dragging them back and forth slowly.

“Christ,” he muttered, his dark gaze lowering. His tongue came out and he ran it over his bottom lip. Liquid heat pooled between her legs and her nipples got even harder. Every harsh breath out of his mouth made his chest rise and she moved back and forth against him.

He either had to let her hips go so he could touch her or she would keep rubbing against him and drive him crazier. A low groan ripped from her throat when she moved the hard tips over him. Maybe her plan had a flaw or two. Thankfully, Ethan loosened one arm and slid it up her side, around the front to cup her breast.

When he rolled her nipple between his thumb and finger, her head fell back and she dug her nails into his shoulders. Sparks ignited and grew hotter, making a fiery trail through her veins. She had enough room to rock enough to feel him and she could feel her stomach muscles tighten. God she was going to get off riding him fully clothed.

“Ethan.” Her strangled plea fell from her lips and his jaw grew hard, but his body went harder.

He loosened his other arm and slid his free hand down the front of her pants, not hesitating before he sank two fingers inside her wet heat. She pushed herself up and down onto his fingers and when he crooked them just enough and pressed his thumb against her clit, raw blinding pleasure burst apart inside her so fast she forgot how to breathe.

A long low moan ripped from her throat as she clenched around his hand, her hips still rocking back and forth.

“Fucking hell, Harper,” he growled. His chest rose and fell rapidly and his fingers still moved inside her. The edge had been taken off but now she wanted him, all of him, inside her so she could do it all over again.

Nothing else mattered.

“I want to ride you,” she gasped, lifting herself off his lap to pull her yoga pants down. Her fingers fumbled with the button on his jeans and he lifted his hips enough to let her slide them down.

His cock bobbed free and she wrapped her fingers around the hard hot length.

Air hissed out between his teeth when she stroked up and down slowly.

His hands returned to her hips and his fingers dug into the flesh there as he guided her forward. She climbed over him, straddled his thighs and held his cock upright, enough so that she could rub the head along her slick pussy.

Her legs trembled and she sucked in a breath when she moved him over her clit.

“I can feel how wet you are and I know how good it’s going to be when you sink down over me. Fuck Harper, you’re making me crazy.”

The grip on her hips tightened. She barely held herself up, teasing his cock with her wetness, working herself up faster than she would have ever imagined. The ridges along his swollen length dragged over her clit and she rocked her hips again.

Already she could feel an orgasm building. Ethan slid his hands up and palmed her breasts, pulled both nipples between his fingers and squeezed them hard. A low groan pulled from her chest and she hovered on the edge, knowing that she was about to fall over it.

With one last drag across her clit that left her teetering on the brink, Harper angled her hips and sank down over his cock hard, sheathing him in one quick motion. Light exploded behind her eyes and his name ripped from her throat.

Ethan grabbed her hips and drove upward as she clenched around him.

“Fuck,” he ground out. “Fuck. Fuck.” His breathing grew harsher and his face was all hard lines and tense muscles.

She dropped her hands to his shoulders and bucked on him. Fissures of pleasure burst through her body and holy hell; she could feel it building again. She whimpered. Ground herself onto him and rocked her hips faster.

He held her down against his hips, his entire length buried in her hot body as she moved back and forth. She felt him grow thicker; harder.

“Oh god, Ethan,” she panted. “Don’t stop, please.”

He pulled her against his chest, anchoring her there on top of him as he kept thrusting upward. Harper buried her mouth in his neck, sucked and bit and kissed. Ethan surged, growling low in his throat, and kept up the relentless rhythm.

Pressure built inside her. She dragged her lips up over his hard jaw until she found his mouth. Ethan drove his fingers into her hair, tightened them and held her head still. He kept her there, his eyes devouring her and she sank into the dark depths.

Need spiraled faster and faster until she was once again poised on the brink.

“Ethan.” His name broke free from her lips and his eyes went almost black.

“Harper,” he growled and the sound sank down into her bones.

The tension inside her broke free and she arched back, clenching around his cock as it throbbed, pulsed inside her. Light exploded behind her eyelids and pleasure so sweet it hurt filled her body. He thrust up once, then twice and froze, emptying inside her.

Their groans mixed together and filled her living room. Warm air brushed over her lips with each of his harsh breaths. Harper leaned forward and rested her forehead against his. His eyes were so blue that she got lost in them for a few seconds.

“This really shouldn’t be this good,” she whispered.

Ethan slid his hand up and down her back and tilted his chin enough so that he could press his lips against hers. The kiss was soft, slow and gentle unlike the frenzy that had just filled them both.

“But it is,” he said against her mouth.

She settled against him, not ready to pull away just yet. This closeness was what she needed right now and he gave it to her. After a few moments, Ethan pressed a kiss to her neck.

“I don’t regret anything that’s happened between us,” he said. “Anything.”

Warmth spread through her chest. Ethan had a way of making her forget everything except how good he felt inside her and knowing that he wanted this, that he wanted everything to be happening the way it was despite the complications, only made her want to hold onto him tighter.

“Thank you for telling me that. Thank you for being here.”

Ethan leaned back so that he could look her in the eyes. One hand cradled her face and he ran his thumb along her bottom lip. She couldn’t help but to lean into his touch.

“I’m here and I’m not going anywhere and we’re doing this together. Okay?”

“Okay.” Harper swallowed the lump in her throat and laid one hand over his. A smile curled her lips up. Maybe everything was going to be okay after all.

E
than was in the shower
. Harper had already taken one and had changed into shorts and a t-shirt.

Everything felt different now, somehow. Better.

Of course it’s better. He said he would be here for you. He said he’s not going anywhere.

Hearing the shower running and knowing that Ethan was in there, in her apartment, made her entire body grow warm with gratitude.

She felt protected…safe…for the first time in a very long time.

Her hand went to her stomach, not for the first time, and she smiled to herself as she lay on the couch and watched TV.

Already, Harper was looking forward to when Ethan came out. She wanted to see him, talk to him, hear his voice. Later, there would be cuddling and sleeping together in the same bed.

Waking up in the morning together. How many more mornings would there be like this? She wondered. Hopefully thousands of them, strung out into the future like pebbles on the beach. An endless line of days spent getting to know each other…loving one another, raising a child, building a real life.

Possible? She wanted it to be. And she could dream, couldn’t she?

For the first time, she had reason to.

Suddenly came the telltale buzzing of her phone. It wasn’t a text. It was a call from an unknown number. Harper sat up and held the phone a long moment. She knew there was no good that could come from an unknown caller, certainly not these days.

But despite her misgivings, her curiosity got the better of her and she answered.

“Harper? Harper Matheson?” the light, friendly female voice queried.

“Who’s speaking?” Harper said, feeling instantly defensive for some reason.

“This is Brigitte Sloan from Gossip USA. How are you?”

Gossip USA was a big, nasty celebrity gossip site that had the kind of train wreck stories you couldn’t look away from. A call from one of their reporters couldn’t be anything but bad news.

“Sorry, I really don’t have time to talk right now,” Harper said, getting ready to hang up.

“We just wanted to get a quick comment from you,” Brigitte said.

“I have no comment on anything, whatever this is about.”

“So you’re not seeing Ethan Wentworth?”

The question hung in the air, buzzing between her ears. Harper felt her breath catch in her chest.

The shower had stopped and now the bathroom door opened. “I feel like a million bucks,” Ethan called out as he emerged from the steaming bathroom nearby.

Harper was panic-stricken. “That’s a lie,” she whispered into the phone.

“We have it from a good source and we’re going to be running the story with or without your comment, Miss Matheson,” the reporter said, her voice growing colder. “But surely you’d prefer to control the narrative—“

Harper hung up the phone and turned her head toward Ethan, who was clad only in a towel. His face was smiling expectant, happy.

She wanted to be the same. She wanted to rewind her life just three short minutes, back to when everything seemed like it could be okay again.

But time couldn’t be rewound, and there was nothing she could do to escape what lay ahead.
