“It already is, captain,” she nodded, feeling the threat of happy tears. “Look, the sun’s sinking into the ocean.”

“The end of a day, and the promise of a new dawn,” he whispered. “Our new dawn.”

He cupped her face, softly kissed her, then engulfed her in his arms.

“That kiss,” he breathed, “has sealed this moment.”

“And our vision,” she whispered.

Unable to stop them, she let the tears spill down her cheeks, and as her tongue tasted the salt, her eyes lit upon the ocean.

“This was meant to be,” she mumbled.

“I know, sweetheart. Our time has come.”
