Epilogue
It was hard to wait for her to be discharged.
All Roman wanted to do was get her to the car and drive Mattie to the local justice of the peace.
He didn’t want to wait.
There was no point. He’d found the woman he was supposed to be with, and that’s all that mattered.
He was going to take the next step.
As the discharge nurse handed him the last of the paperwork, Roman was ready to head out.
This day was ten years in the making, and it was going to be the best day of his life.
How could it not be?
When he headed into the room, Mattie was sitting on the edge of the bed, waiting for him. She was wearing scrubs and was beat to hell and back.
There was never a more beautiful woman in the world, and he knew it.
“Ready?” he asked, holding a bag.
“What’s in there?”
He grinned. “A wedding dress.”
She stared at him. “That’s a pretty small bag for a wedding dress.”
He handed it to her.
When she pulled it out, her eyes went big. “Roman!”
“It’s almost exactly the dress in that photo you had of us. You know, the one where you were lying on a blanket in the sun, and I was watching you.”
She was well aware.
“It was white, and I thought it was perfect.”
Tears filled her eyes.
“It is. I love it.”
“Think it’s fancy enough to marry me?” he asked.
She sniffled. “I’d marry you in these scrubs.”
He was well aware.
As he helped her to the bathroom, he couldn’t wait to see her in the dress. It wasn’t easy to find it, but it must have been fate.
“How’s it look?” he asked, talking to her through the door.
“I think it looks good,” she replied.
Roman couldn’t wait.
When the door opened, there stood Mattie in the simple white sundress and sandals.
She was right.
It looked good.
As she pulled her hair up on top of her head, Roman’s eyes filled with tears.
“Are you okay?” she asked.
He tugged her into his arms. “I just through about what life would be like if we didn’t come back together again.”
“And that would be?”
“Hell, Mattie. I love you so much, and I can’t wait for you to be my wife.”
She touched his cheek. “Then we should get going. I want to get hitched, head back to my place for the honeymoon, and then start our new life.”
“Are you sure…?”
She put her hand over his mouth. “I have no doubts, my love.”
He grinned.
“Well, then your chariot awaits.”
He pointed at the wheelchair.
Mattie giggled. “I think you’re going to be an interesting husband.”
His heart skipped.
That one word healed everything that had been broken in him for the last ten years.
“Matilda, my sunshine, I’m going to be the best damn husband in the world, because I have the best wife.”
She took a seat. “Then let’s go get hitched. I want to be Mrs. Roman Remington, and I want it now.”
He pushed her through the door.
“Anything for you, Mattie. Anything.”

Two Weeks Later
They were just getting ready to head to the Rez. Claire and Beckett were tying the knot that evening, and they had to get there to help set up.
The night was going to be magical, and they couldn’t wait to welcome Beckett into their family.
He was part of their circle, and soon, he was going to be his brother.
As they were locking up the office, the last ones to leave, they saw someone heading to the front door.
Tori began grinning. “He’s come.”
Julian wasn’t surprised. He had a feeling that Everhart Rose was going to make a visit. The man was a good cop, and the lure of helping the lost was going to be too big to pass up.
As he entered, he looked around. That’s when he saw them. Little Ivy wanted to get down, so he placed her on her feet. Immediately, she ran toward Tori, her arms open.
She was scooped off her feet.
“So, is the offer still open?” he asked, dropping the diaper bag beside him on the floor.
“You know it is,” Julian said, grinning at his wife as she cuddled Ivy. “What took you so long?”
Hart shook his hand. “Do you know how much crap you have when there’s a kid involved? I was packing dolls for days.”
Tori found that funny. The large cop didn’t seem like the type to say something like that.
“Laugh it up, but now I have a problem.”
“What?” Julian asked.
“Know of any daycares that aren’t overpriced or dangerous?”
Tori grinned. “Actually, we have one in mind.”
“Tori Littlemoon!” Julian stated, knowing where she was taking it. They’d discussed it, and he’d warned her.
“Are they accepting new enrollments?”
“Yeah, do you want to meet her? Her name is Clarissa, and she loves kids.”
“I’d love to meet her.”
Julian sighed and headed toward the closet next to the elevator. Reaching inside, he pulled out a tie.
“What’s this?” he asked.
“We’re going to a wedding.”
“A what?” he asked, his eyes going big. “I’m not a fan of them, if you know what I mean.”
Tori laughed. “Two of our people are getting married, and we need to show up. You’re going to get a crash course on Native cuisine, Clarissa Littlemoon, and how to survive in our family.”
He looked worried.
“What’s wrong, Hart? Are you afraid of a little initiation?” Tori asked.
He started laughing. “I knew this job was going to be interesting,” Hart admitted. “I think I can handle some Natives and a wedding. Can Ivy come? You know, as my date?”
Tori shook her head. “Sorry, but she declines your offer. She’s going to be my date, aren’t you, Ivy?”
The girl cooed at Tori.
Hart smiled.
He’d made the right choice.
He could already see it.
“Well, then let’s go to a wedding. I can’t wait to meet this Clarissa. I have a bunch of questions to ask her about child care.”
Tori and Julian both started laughing.
They knew that wasn’t going to happen. No one asked Clarissa jack shit.
She did the talking.
“What?” he asked, looking at them like they were crazy.
“Oh, nothing. You’ll need to figure it out on your own.”
“Initiation?”
They both shook their heads.
“Not in the least,” offered Julian. “It’s more along the lines of hazing.”
“What?”
They simply laughed.
This was going to be fun. Hopefully, Everhart Rose was ready for the ride of his life.
