“Mac.” She couldn’t believe what he was saying; she was a little stunned at his words, and after what had happened, he held back from her, just as she had done with all of them. His head fell forward, blocking his face from her. She stepped forward, but stopped; she needed to hear the rest from him.

“No, let me finish. I know you have strong feelings for the rest of my brothers, and they do for you as well. I know that whatever I say won’t change what happened in the past, but I am truly sorry for being an ass towards you.”

She stepped forward and stopped in front of him. “Why did you act that way?” An ass was an understatement, but damn if she didn’t want, and need, the truth. Damn her traitorous heart.

“Something changed in me.” He shrugged and looked defeated, a new look for Mac. “I wanted you too badly. I have for a long time. I’ve seen the way you look at my brothers and me, but the way you did that with them, it pissed me off. I wanted you for myself. I didn’t want to share you. I’m greedy, Sage, but I fucked that up.”

“Mac, I care for all of you, but you hurt me that night. You didn’t listen to anything I said. You wanted what you wanted and that was that. Nothing to do with what I wanted.” Shaking her head, she continued, “It wasn’t so much the sex between us, it’s what you said to me after that ripped me apart. I knew you could be a cruel bastard sometimes, but I never thought you would be like that towards me.” She took a deep breath. “I thought you cared.”

He gripped around her legs and pulled her forward so she was standing between his legs. “I didn’t mean any of it, Sage. I’m not trying to blame it on the alcohol. I was so fucking turned on. I wanted you, badly. So I took what I wanted from you, not caring what you wanted. I hated myself after even more, but I couldn’t keep my damn mouth shut when you were around.” He swiped his hand over his face. “I was furious with myself, not you.”

She ran her hand over his head as he spoke. She never would have thought that MacKenzie Harper would apologise for his actions, ever. She understood what he was saying to her. “You can’t keep treating me or anyone else like that, Mac. You’ll end up pushing everyone away from you, and you won’t have anyone there for you when you need them.”

“Yeah, I know, Sage.” He rested his head against her stomach as she continued to stroke over his head. His hands slowly began to rub her legs from behind her knee to the top of her thigh. “I need you in my life, Sage. I can’t handle you not being in it or not even talking to me,” he whispered against her. “The last few weeks have been hell.”

She hated the fact that they hadn’t spent time together the last several weeks. But with the way he treated her, she couldn’t be around him. It wasn’t meant to happen this way; it went completely differently in her head. What she wanted and what she received were completely different to each other. It never went as planned; something always came up to ruin the moment.

Lifting his head up, she released a breath. “I’ll be in your life, Mac, but don’t ever treat me like you did.”

Wrapping his arms around her waist, he pulled her tighter to him. “I’ll try really hard not to treat you that way again.”

“It’s not the fact of you trying not to do it again, Mac. You shouldn’t have done it in the first place. I won’t put up with it next time you do it again. This is the only chance you have of me being in your life.”

His faced pressed into her stomach and lightly kissed her there. Her hands stilled on his head as his hands slid down and cupped her ass. He pushed his nose into her belly, rubbing over her, and then proceeded to go lower.

She gripped his shoulders, “Mac,” she whispered.

“I want one last time with you, Sage. It doesn’t have to be sex between us or you doing anything for me. I want to be the one pleasing you. That’s it.”

Her knees shook as she listened to him. Could she push everything aside and allow him this one time with her? Her heart ached for him. His words, while not poetic, were true and were a big deal for Mac. She still loved him, just not the way she did with the rest of the brothers. He had damaged her heart.

Making her decision, she nodded down at him. “This one time, Mac. That’s it.”

“Understand totally, Sage.” He stood up, moved her to the end of the bed and sat her down. He knelt on the floor in front of her and reached for her pants.

Lifting her hips up, he pulled her sweat pants down her legs and threw them over his shoulder. Leaning back on her elbows, she watch as he lifted his hand to her pussy, stroked his fingers over her clit and around her entrance and lifted that same finger to his mouth and sucked on it.

“Going to miss your sweet taste, Sage,” he hissed before his head descended and his mouth covered her.

She groaned as he flicked his tongue over her clit. Her hands pressed into the bed beside her as he bit down slightly, causing her to moan out.

Mac pushed her thighs further apart, never once taking his mouth from her, continuing to suck at her.

His fingers traced over her pussy, his tongue licking and pulling at her bud. Two fingers slid into her with ease. She was wet for him; even if she was upset at him, her body still reacted. She still wanted him, her body did, and she couldn’t deny it.

Pumping his fingers, twisting them deeper inside of her, she cried out as he rubbed against her G-spot. He didn’t ease up on her, the pressure building deep inside her core as her body clenched around him.

Growling, he pushed harder and deeper, faster and faster. He shifted in his position, getting closer to her as his fingers slid in and out.

“Mac,” she whimpered.

A third finger pushed into her and pounded non-stop. Gripping the bedspread in her hands, her back curved off the bed as her release was right there.

He removed a finger from her pussy and slid it down to her puckered hole. Easing into her, she rocked against him as all of his fingers slid into her in one movement.

Pulling his mouth from her clit, “Come now, Sage,” he ordered as his fingers ploughed with force into her.

Her eyes rolled back into her head as she clamped down on his fingers and screamed out as her orgasm tore through her.

Dropping back onto the bed, panting for air, he stilled his movements and pulled his mouth form her. Slipping his fingers from her, he lifted the ones that were inside of her pussy and licked them clean. His eyes darkened as he moaned around his fingers.

Sitting up once she got her breathing back to normal, she felt weird sitting in front of him, her legs spread with no pants on.

He stood from the floor, grabbed a shirt from the ground and wiped her clean.

“Mac.”

“Don’t worry about me, Sage. I’ll take care of it.”

She felt like scum, sitting there after her release. He stood with an erection; it looked painful.

“I need to go. We’ll catch up soon, okay?”

“Yeah, sounds good.” She stood from the bed, walked over to him and wrapped her arms around his waist.

He leaned down, kissed the top of her head, and wrapped his arms around her. “I love you, Sage. I have and will always love you. Don’t forget that,” he whispered against her head.

“I love you too, Mac,” she sobbed. She did love him, just not the same as she did with Logan, Caleb and Zeb.

“I know you don’t love me the same as you do my brothers, but it’s fine with me. If you ever need anything or anyone, I’m here for you, Sage. All you have to do is call me.”

“Thank you, Mac. I’m here if you need anything too.” She smiled the best she could up at him.

Pulling away from her, he opened the door and looked back one last time towards her. He gave her that sexy grin she knew so well before he turned, closed the door behind him, and left.

In her wildest dreams, she never thought that Mac would have told anyone he was sorry for his actions. It saddened her that she didn’t feel the same for him as he did for her. However, she had told the truth; she loved him. She was a little stunned when he told her he loved her.

Wiping the tears from her eyes, she found her pants and pulled them on. She walked into the bathroom, splashed water over her face so it didn’t look like she had been crying and walked out. She needed to get back out there before Bri came checking on her.

Opening the door, she slowed her breathing down and walked out. Everything was finally sorted out between her and Mac. Now all she had to do was get Logan, Caleb and Zeb together and tell them how she felt about them all, and that she wanted to be with them, exclusively. She wasn’t holding back anymore from them or herself. She was going after what her heart wanted most, and that was the Harper boys.

CHAPTER
TWENTY-SIX

––––––––

S
age stood in her room as Bri, Lilly, Kaidence and her sister, Skilyr, argued over damn clothes to wear tonight.

She had already decided on what she was wearing and didn’t care what they all thought; she was wearing it. Ignoring them all, she walked over to her walk-in robe and reached for her leather skirt and corset style top.

Placing them on the bed, she went into the bathroom, closed the door and turned the water on in the shower. Stripping out of her pyjamas that she had worn all day, she stepped under the water.

The door to the bathroom swung open and someone walked in, not caring that she was in the shower.

“Where’s your black halter neck thigh-high dress?” Bri asked from behind the glass door.

“Um, I’m in the shower. Privacy much,” Sage hissed.

“Please, we have all seen each other naked before. It’s not like you have something I don’t.”

Resting her head against the wall, “It’s in the back of my walk-in, left-hand side, near the red dress I wore to your work Christmas party last year.”

“Sweet, thanks.”

“Lilly, I’ve got the dress you’re wearing tonight,” Bri shouted as she left the bathroom.

She had to laugh really. There was nothing normal with the friendship she had with her girls. None of them were shy towards each other. They said what was exactly on their mind and didn’t care what they said or whose feelings they hurt. It was the way they all were. Trust up front, always.

Turning the water off, she got out, wrapped her towel around her body, and walked out of the bathroom. Glancing at the clock that sat on her bedside table, she saw that they had several hours before they would be leaving for the club.

Slipping on a pair of panties under her towel, she sat on the edge of her bed as all the girls returned into her room.

“Have you all decided on what you’re wearing, or do I have to sit here and listen to you all bitch again?”

“Maybe we might bitch again just to piss you off as usual, or take our sweet-ass time,” Lilly laughed.

“Please, I can’t handle the way you all bitch and whine.”

“You love our bitching, Sage. If we stopped, you’d miss it too much,” Bri answered as she sat down beside her and pushed against her shoulder with her own.

“I love you, not the whining.” Looking around the room, she noticed her sister was absent. “Where’s Skil?”

“She had a phone call and walked outside. I think she’s hiding someone from us,” Bri answered as she looked for something in her bag.

“How do you know that?” How couldn’t she know her own sister was seeing someone?

“The way she spoke on the phone, and the cute little blush she did when she spoke to whoever was on the other end. She wants that person, bad.”

Well, there you go; her sister did have someone, but why was she hiding it from her? Shrugging, they all discussed their clothing and the full plans for the night.

“Are the boys coming with us tonight?” Kaidence asked.

She never thought to ask them.

“No, I thought this was a girls’ night out only.”

“Hell no. The boys can come with us, plus I want to get my shimmying on with Zeb. Damn, that boy can move,” Kaidence giggled.

Oh, he could move all right, she thought. There was no jealousy that Kaidence wanted to dance with Zeb. They were her girls. If they wanted to look, they could; she didn’t have a hold over them, and they did what they wanted anyway.

Bri handed her phone to her. Bringing up Logan’s number, she typed up a message to him.

Sage: Hey, do you guys want to head to the club with us girls tonight?

She dropped her phone on the bed when she didn’t get a reply straight away and started getting ready.

She stood in the bathroom while Bri curled her hair. Lilly was putting on her makeup, and Kaidence was helping her sister do her hair. Once Sage’s hair was done, she applied her makeup and walked back out, leaving Kaidence and Skil in there.

Bri dropped down beside her and closed her eyes for a brief moment, obviously waiting for the girls to finish.

Tapping Bri on the leg to grab her attention, Sage asked, “Have you spoken to Kaidence about why she disappears?”

“Yeah, I did. Every time I ask about it, she changes the subject real quick. I doubt anything is going on too serious or she would have told one of us by now.”

Glancing towards the bathroom door, she listened to her sister and Kaidence as they got ready. “I hope you’re right. I worry that she doesn’t say much.”

“We all do, Sage. She’ll tell us when she is ready and we’ll be here for her when she does. Your phone beeped before too,” Bri answered, still lying on the bed.

Reaching for her phone, Sage swiped the screen and smiled seeing she’d received a message back from Logan.

Logan: I would love nothing more than to be on that dance floor and dirty dance with you, spitfire! But we all need to meet up with a client tonight and talk business. I would rather be with you though xoxo

Well, that sucked.

Sage: Well, too bad. I’ll just have to dance with someone else there, since you will be busy working!

She couldn’t help but stir him up a little.

Instantly, a reply blinked on her screen.

Logan: It had better only be with one of the girls, spitfire.

She laughed and her stomach filled with butterflies.

“What?” Bri asked beside her.

“The boys can’t make it. They have a meeting with a client. I told him that since he won’t be there, I’ll dance with someone else. He replied saying, ‘it had better be with one of you girls.’”
