Kara’s serious
ly dark
expression silenced
their ignorant gr
andparents. “Listen, Many Keepers and Balancers are accepting of humans, but if Changers sense weakness they won’t think twice
about sinking their fangs in your throat
. Remember me explaining how some of my kind live only by
natural
instinct. Some of us lack the compassion we once had as
frail
humans. Don’t ever forget to have either Mark or myself close by if you want to come over. You must promise me Granddaddy. Otherwise you cannot
even
stop by for a visit
.
I won’t be happy if you kill yourself.

Everyone
becme
silent at hearing
Kara
’s
sincerity
.
David
nodded.

Connor
walked up to Xaon when the mood lightened. He was still weak. “Go ahead and remove my bond to you.”

He nodded and placed a clawed hand over
his
head. Soon
the
bond
rose and disappeared
,
and
had
returned a portion of
the
energy back to
Xaon. Connor
then moved to Firon and Clarein to have t
hem remove their temporary bond
. Soon only one bo
nd remained and it belonged to his
mate.

As Sarah moved to
remove hers and Darrel’s bond, Connor
retrieved Pearl
from
David
. Soon every immortal lined up and had their
temporary
bonds
removed. The Keepers
even removed the bonds from each other. By the time everyone finished
unbinding themselves
,
the three were able to stand up while still looking
mildly
fatigued.
It was a burden they
all shared.

Sarah walked to his
side and placed a hand on
his
forearm. “Connor, since that is finished, I think that we should get ready to go.”
Ev
eryone quietly looked over at them
.
He
smiled at her which made her do it too.

He
looked at everyone
to announce “Since we are going to have so many comrades coming here
,
I think it best to let an old friend in on the secret. In
case something happens it would be good to have some extra support.”

“Who are you thinking about, Brother?” Kara asked while looking knowingly and slightly confused as to why
he’s
doing this.

Sarah sp
oke instead
. “We decided to tell Sheriff Burrow and Mrs. Burrow
about us
. We
honestly
trust them to keep a cool head in a
difficult
situation
and this one will be the toughest
. Mark,” he
perked up to
look at her in a confused way. “may I ask that you and Father show Xaon and Firon to the field
and help them in
the
building
process
?” Connor’s
best friend and father-in-law looked at each other and they both shrugged
indifferently
. “
Thank you ever so much.” Then she looked up and smiled. “Clarein, may I ask that you represent the Keeper
s for us
, please?”

Clarein smiled.
“I’d say yes, even if the Honored Mother
didn’t
t
e
l
l
me to listen to you as well. I do owe you a debt of gratitude?”

Sarah looked confused, but then shook her head. “Thank you, but I’d like to hear about this debt later. You and Shannon can go and play
together
behind my house or in the woods. These humans will meet you last because we need to see how they handle us first.” Clarein nodded with a knowing smile.

His
mate

s entrancing eyes met
his
while looking slightly happy. “Ready to go, Connor?”

Sarah’s
personal Greek
God smiled proudly at her
and
her
heart began sprinting. He was proud for some reason and guessed that it was from
her
giving those simple orders. It didn’t feel all that important to
her
, but his smile was of complete pride. His smile
i
s
for her
. It made
her
inside
s
warm and
her
chest felt like it was beating an audible drum solo. His rugged and chiseled features changed shape as he spoke.

“Sure thing, Princess.” Then he shifted his smi
le down to her
cradled arms and
then to
his. “Darrel, your mom and I need to go and get our friends. I’ll need you and your sister to stay here with everyone until we get back.”

Darrel shuffled a little bit until he could look ef
fortlessly between Connor and her
self.
“But Daddy, I want to go with you too!”

“Don’t forget about me, Daddy!”
Pearl chimed in from her father’s arms.

Double teaming usually worked.

Sarah
gained both of their attentions by saying “We wish we could bring you, but your dad’s right. This is going to be a very stressful situation for them as it is. But there is something that you can do for us.” Now that quelled them and gained their attention. Four small eyes were intent on
hers
. “When we come back with the Burrow’s, I would like for you two to speak with them when either your father or I tell you that it will be alright. You may speak as you normally would with any of us, but be considerate. They might have a hard time understanding how different the world actually is. Can you do that for me?”

The twin’s looked at each other and then Pearl said
“We can do that, Mommy. If we’re good, may we get a treat?”
T
hen she looked up at Connor.
“Just not the same kind Daddy
gave us last night
… yuck!

A sh
ort giggle escaped Sarah’s
lips and
her free hand clamped over her own
mouth. Connor fought a deep belly laugh himself.
She
pulled
her hand away from her
mouth and said “Of course. I’ll give you each a popsicle for a reward.”

Darrel let out a small giggle and said
“Good job, Pearl. I didn’t even think about asking for a reward. Way to go!”

Pearl only smiled happily.

Jillian
appeared out of nowhere and said genuinely “Even if you are a little
mischievous
, I’ll make sure you get that popsicle. We’ll just keep it a secret
from your parents now won’t we?
” Both of
her
grand
children grinned with only gums.

She
lightly warned “Mother, now don’t start corrupting my children while I’m still around
to hear it
.”

Jillian
placed a palm on
her
shoulder and grinned.

That one of the perks of being a grandmother. I can do whatever I’d like and get away with it. Since they aren’t strictly mine, I can hand them back
over
whenever. When they are with me, they will have the time of their little lives.”

Connor walked forward and leaned
closer
. His piercin
g eyes were focused on Sarah’s
mother, but he was smiling. “Well then
Grandma
ma
,
” He cradled Pearl away from his chest. “have as much fun as you’d like
, without burning my home down. We’ll be back shortly.”

As
Jillian
took Pearl with a grin, Kara ran over to
Sarah’s
side. She stretched her arms out in front of her.
She was a little
too
excited.
“Gimme my nephew. We’re going to party while the parents are away!”

“Woo-hoo! Party!”
Darrel giggled as he w
ent into his aunt’s arms while Sarah
smiled. Kara started swaying back and forth like there was
music to beat to.

Connor
looked around and spoke with her
back to him. “We should return within the hour. After we tell the secret, I’ll make my way to the field and help
with
the construction. We’ll see everyone real soon.”

Sarah
turned around and entwi
ned
her
fingers with
her
mate’s. H
e smiled and waved to everyone.

As
they
left
,
she
saw
her f
ather and Mark leading Xaon and Firon through the forest and to the training field. Somehow Shannon found her way to sit on her
sister-in-law’s
enormous shoulder. Clarein walked around the house carefully while making sure Shannon didn’t fall. Then there were the three women. Somehow Rhoda made her way to Kara and
Jillian
. Rhoda and
Jillian
also began dancing without music
,
just like
her
crazed sister-in-law.
David stood back and watched them while showing a half smile and shaking his head
slowly
.

Connor and Sarah
were moving through the woods
as
her
apprehension began to build.
What will we do if they take this the wrong way? How will we be able to do this properly? Connor’s family took it well enough, but they weren’t rigid like most humans
that
I’ve encountered in my time.
Then
she
made the mistake of sighing.

Without looking at
her, her
mate s
poke reassuringly.
“Do not worry too much about this. I’d rather explain to them about what is happening personally rather than them find
ing
out the hard way.
The world will see our existence shortly anyway. Some will accept us with open arms, many will be apprehensive at first and there will even be people who will be hostile towards us. I wish there was a way to break the news to the world right now, but with such a short deadline the human public and government will only get in our way. But for the time being we need a human to keep the other humans away, for their safety.”

She
squeez
ed his hand and they
smiled at each other.

“Since you’re so sure about thi
s, allow me to take the lead
this
time.” He smiled her
smile as
an answer.

Soon
they
made it to
her parent’s property and she
jumped into the passenger seat of the enormous green truck. Connor turned on the ignition and
they
were soon traveling down the road towards town.

It took about twenty minutes to finally reach the
local and well known
police station.
Connor pulled into the parking
lot
silently and found a perfect spot. She
exited the vehicle and shut the door.
They
then met by the tailgate and had to slow
their
steps to that of a casual human. Then
they
walked together and up the steps of the police station.
Connor, always the gentleman, opened the glass door for
her
. Once inside
,
she
saw many desks that were covered in papers along with individual computers. There w
ere several deputies
working. Plus there were a few shady looking people that could send a chill up ones spine. Despite all this
,
she
walked up to the front desk.

Behind the front desk
sat
a new rookie who just completed his aca
demy training. He looked up as she
greeted him. “Hello Charles, how are you today?”
