Lettie grinned.

“All right, tell us the rest, already,” Cass urged.

“What rest?” Amy asked.

“Details, of course. She can’t tell us he got her off with a flower and leave it at that.”

Amy laughed. “I should have lunch with you guys more often.” Then she eyed her sister. “Cassie’s right. So spill.”

Lettie took a deep breath and prepared to divulge, but the ringing in her purse halted her attempt. “Why do they always call during lunch?” she asked, withdrawing the leopard-spotted phone.

She glanced at the back of her newest client’s cellular, then answered. “Villa at the Cove, this is Colette. Can I help you?” She listened to the woman’s request. “Certainly. If you hold on, I’ll be happy to check his room.” She pressed the “mute” button, then looked at Amy and Cass. “What kind of guy tells her he’s going to a day spa for his alibi?”

“He chose it?” Cass asked.

“Yeah, he said she’d believe that. Guess he gets into pampering,” Lettie said as Amy snickered.

Lettie pressed the “mute” button again. “I’m sorry, Ms. Lowell, but Mr. Silverstone isn’t in his room right now. I’ll be happy to take a message, or I can leave your name and number for him to return your call.” She wrote the name and number on a notepad, then said good-bye to the woman, while Amy choked on a chip.

Cassie immediately started beating her on the back, then yanked one of Amy’s thin arms straight up in the air, until Lettie was certain she’d pull the thing out of its socket.

“Take it easy there, Cass,” Lettie warned. “That arm’s connected, you know.”

Amy’s coughing subsided, and she wiped the resulting tears from her cheek. “You aren’t supposed to hit me if I’m coughing,” she said, glaring at Cass. “It’s when someone is choked and
not
coughing that you hit them.”

Cassie shrugged. “So maybe I just wanted to hit someone.” She laughed, and Amy forced a grin.

“Are you okay?” Lettie asked. “Really?”

“Yeah,” Amy said, reaching for her glass, then sipping her Coke until her eyes cleared. “Did you say Ms. Lowell? And Mr. Silverstone?”

Lettie nodded. “You know them?”

“Slay Silverstone? And Emerald Lowell?” Amy asked, patting her throat as she swallowed thickly.

“Yeah,” Lettie said, raising her brows at Cassie. “Friends of yours?”

“Not necessarily friends, but they work for me.”

“They work at Adventurous Accessories?” Lettie asked. “He didn’t put his place of employment on the form.”

“Product testers,” Amy enlightened.

“Oooh, you don’t say,” Cassie said, leaning forward in her chair. A thick blond curl flipped toward her eye, and she quickly stuffed it behind her ear. “Exactly what products do they test?”

“Mostly mine,” Amy said. “In particular, the vibrators.”

Lettie’s eyes bulged. “Wait a minute. Is he the one you were telling me about?”

“Yeah,” Amy said, then giggled. “And I don’t really know why he’d need an alibi for Emerald. They’re very honest about the fact they merely enjoy sex. There’s no commitment involved, or so they say.”

“Well, from what he said when he hired me,” Lettie informed, “there’s no commitment on
his
side. However, the woman is fairly obsessed, so he wanted a break. He’s not even really cheating on her, just staying at a hotel in town to have a little peace.”

“Emerald? A stalker?” Amy said, then added, “You know, I could see that. Especially since she knows firsthand about his equipment.”

“What about his equipment?” Cass asked, making a great deal of headway through her bag of chips. Her red-glossed lips worked double time, and she munched loudly while she waited.

“Let me tell her,” Lettie urged, eager to see Cassie’s reaction to this.

Amy laughed out loud. “Go ahead.”

“He’s not just a tester,” Lettie said, grinning broadly. “He’s a model.”

This time, Cassie choked, but quickly regained composure by beating her ample chest, barely contained by a skimpy leopard-print tank. “I know. I shouldn’t have hit myself, but it worked.” She quickly popped another chip. “He’s a model?”

“Oh yeah, for their
biggest
seller,” Lettie said.

“Really?” Cassie asked, her eyes growing even wider.

Amy nodded. “Afraid so, but that isn’t the most interesting part.”

“Go ahead,” Lettie said, not wanting to steal all of Amy’s fun. “You can tell her the rest.”

“Well?” Cassie urged. She wiggled pink-tipped fingers in a gimme-gimme gesture.

Amy leaned forward and lowered her voice to a whisper. “One of our newer products had to be altered, because when he really heated it up, it melted.”

Cassie grabbed Lettie’s purse, dug inside, then withdrew the animal-print phone. “Look, the phone matches my outfit; it was meant to be.” She looked pointedly at Lettie. “Sorry, girl, but he’s mine. You’ve got your man already, and I could use a little . . . What was his name again?”—she glanced at the back of the phone—“Some Slay Silverstone in my life.”

Lettie grinned. “Fine. But you’re taking more than your share of clients this week. You sure you want another?”

“Hello, woman,” Cassie said, pulling the phone into her cleavage. “This is a man with a model penis and a hot cock, to boot. I not only want him. I need him.”

All three cackled with laughter as Cassie continued clutching the spotted phone against her heart. “Come on, Slay baby, call me.”

“Actually, you need to call him and give him the message, don’t you?” Lettie asked.

“Ooh, I suppose I do. And if you two don’t mind, I think I’ll do this one in private.” She took the phone, left the table and hurried outside, her spiked heels clicking madly on the tile floor.

“Okay. Tell me about everything with Bill,” Amy said.

“Not without Cassie. She’ll make me repeat it, anyway.”

“All right, then while we’re waiting, maybe I should tell you about Landon.”

“Landon? As in, the cowboy who drives you crazy at work?” Lettie asked, a little surprised. She’d detected Amy’s infatuation, even if her sister hadn’t admitted the fact.

“Yeah,” Amy said, her green eyes glittering. “And the one who plans to drive me crazy this weekend.”

“What happened to the toys-are-good-enough thing you had going?”

Amy shrugged. “Beats the heck out of me, but right now, the main toy I want to play with wears a Stetson and Ropers.”

Lettie grabbed Amy’s hand and squeezed. “Tell. Me. Now.”

“There’s not a whole lot to tell yet,” Amy admitted. “I mean, two nights ago, I went to Cowboys with Brenda and ran into Landon. We ended up in a heated dance lesson—”

“You took a dance lesson?” Lettie asked, knowing Amy was a natural on the dance floor, particularly when it involved country line dancing.

“He wanted me to teach him to boot scoot, but that was after we had a cherry-stem-tying contest.”

Lettie slapped a hand to her mouth, then slid it to her neck. “You’re pretty good with a cherry stem.”

“He’s better,” Amy said, practically beaming.

“Is he now?” Lettie couldn’t contain her smirk. Had Amy finally met a guy who could make her reconsider her “don’t need a man” theory?

“He won.”

“Which means he won—what exactly?” Lettie asked.

“A dance and a date,” Amy said, grabbing the macadamia nut cookie she’d purchased and taking a big bite, in spite of the fact she hadn’t started her sandwich.

“So you danced that night,” Lettie supplied.

“Oh yeah, and then we heated up my office the next day.”

“Really? Care to explain?” Lettie couldn’t remember the last time Amy had looked so intrigued. It was a good look on her sister.

“Nope,” Amy said, munching and grinning.

“Nothing?” Lettie asked, in a mock pout. “For someone who wants to hear about what happened with Bill, you sure don’t act like it.”

“Oh, okay,” Amy conceded. “Well, let’s see. I guess it’d be safe to say I now know that everything really is bigger in Texas.”

Lettie slapped her hand on the table and ignored the resulting sting in her palm. “You know?”

Amy leaned forward, dropping her voice to a light whisper. “I felt it up close and personal yesterday, through a barrier of clothing. But this weekend, I could verify the assumption.”

“Will wonders ever cease? Amy Campbell, the girl who swore she’d never need a man, actually wants one.”

“Trust me, I’m still adjusting to it too.”

Lettie laughed. “Did you see him last night? You went to Cowboys with Brenda again, didn’t you?”

“We went back, but he didn’t show.”

“Disappointed?” Lettie asked.

“Not really. I’m thinking it’d be nice for our next bit of time together to occur somewhere other than a bar.”

“Any idea where he’s taking you?”

“He said dinner and a movie.”

“And sex?” Lettie added.

“He didn’t say, but I’m sure counting on it.”

Lettie scooted her chair toward her sister’s and leaned toward her ear. “It’s been awhile, hasn’t it? I mean, have you been with anyone since Cam?”

Cameron Brown had been Amy’s only high-school fling, or at least the only one Lettie knew of. And although Amy had never provided a lot of detail about the relationship, Lettie had gathered the boy worked hard to get what he wanted, then promptly dropped her cold.

“I haven’t been with anyone else. Ever,” Amy confirmed. “And truthfully, I hadn’t planned to. But Landon makes me want to rethink that decision.”

“Good for you,” Lettie said, and she meant it. Amy deserved to have fun with something that didn’t require batteries. A bona fide cowboy was probably just the ticket to show her what she’d been missing.

“All right,” Cass said, returning to the table. “Slay was glad we handled his female problem so eloquently. He really has a wonderful personality, doesn’t he?”

“As if that’s why you talked to him so long,” Lettie accused.

“Can I help it if I want to meet the guy who melts vibrators?”

“Are you going to? Meet him?” Amy asked.

Cass grinned. “Well, I didn’t ask him out. Yet. We’re still getting to know each other.”

“But you’re going to?” Lettie asked, somewhat surprised at Cassie’s forwardness. True, she’d always been one to take the bull by the horns, but she’d never gone after a client.

“No,” Cassie answered. “However, if I handle this right, he’s gonna hit on me.” She broke off part of Amy’s cookie and tossed it in her mouth. “And if I’m lucky, that hit’ll be a grand slam with a big bat.”

“You’re something else, Cass,” Amy said, shaking her head, then turned her attention back to her sister. “Okay, Lettie. Now tell us about the rest of your time with Bill.”

“Yeah,” Cassie added, snapping her fingers. “Tell.”

“We didn’t exactly start the date with a rose orgasm,” Lettie admitted.

“Damn, it’s even got a name,” Cass said, smirking while she chewed. “Then how do you start a date that ends with a flower petal screamer?”

“Lord, sis, I never thought I’d see you this—”

“This what?” Lettie asked.

“Satisfied,” Amy said.

Oh yeah. She’d been satisfied, all right. Even more because Bill hadn’t. He’d tended her every need, completely, giving her body more pleasure than she’d ever known without intercourse, yet never allowing himself the same fulfillment. Because he’d wanted to show her she meant more to him than his own gratification. And proving to her that he was still the selfless, considerate friend she’d known for years. Bill gave her a glimpse of the kind of man she could give herself to, completely, for life. A friend and lover, and a man she could trust with her body and her heart.

“Are you gonna tell us, or do we have to swipe your lunch?” Amy asked, plucking her fork through a tomato garnish on her sister’s plate, then adding it to her chicken salad sandwich. “You went out to eat, then to the Fox, right?”

“Yeah.” The word escaped on a dreamy breath.

“And then?” Cass nudged.

“He had the best seats in the house and one of the private reception rooms reserved for after the show.” Lettie’s smile burst free, taking complete control of her face.

“You did it in the Fox?” Amy asked loudly. Very. Loudly. And once again, she drew every customer’s attention with her animated tone.

Lettie cleared her throat, blushing at her own excitement. “Amazing, Amy, how you can take something totally romantic and make it sound completely trashy.” But she grinned, and her younger sister grinned right back. Who’d have thought the two Campbell girls would find two men that made their hearts flutter, in the same week?

“Nope. I’m not going to feel sorry for you today, Lettie. Nice try, though. I give you an A for effort. But anyone who starts her day with a rose between her legs isn’t going to get an ounce of sympathy from me,” Amy said.

Cass choked on her sandwich, waving pink nails fiercely in front of her face as she fought to regain control. Finally, she lifted her glass and sipped her tea. “Okay, you two. You’ve got to warn me before you start this sisterly banter, especially when it’s orgasm humor. I can’t remember the last time I got choked, and now it’s happened twice in one meal. Lord help me, I’ve gotta stop hanging with you two.”

An elderly woman at the next table shifted in her chair, while the white-haired gentleman across from her grinned like a thief.

“Anyway,” Lettie continued, “he had a private room reserved and we”—she cleared her throat again—“took advantage.”

“I’ll say you did,” Amy agreed. “How many times did you, you know, hit maximum advantage?”

“More than I could count.”

“Damn.” Cass shook her head, sending fat blond curls bobbing, but continued eating. “Then again, I bet I could hit maximum advantage a few times with Slay, if the rest of him matches his voice. Talk about sexy.” She looked at Amy. “It does, doesn’t it? I mean, the guy is incredible, isn’t he?”

Amy nodded and giggled. “Right off a
Playgirl
cover, Cass. But I want to hear the rest of this. Okay, Lettie, then what?”

“Then he brought me home.”

“And you asked him to stay,” Cass completed.

“Yeah, but—”

“But what?” Amy put her sandwich back on the plate and pushed it forward, obviously letting Lettie know she had her undivided attention. She didn’t plan to miss a single word describing what came next.
