Territory of the Dead:

A letter found on the clear glass case of the only gun shop in Pleasant, LA
Hello,
My name is Tabitha Alexanders. Congratulations. If you're reading this letter, you're one of the survivors from the zombie apocalypse. Take care, or you won't last for long.
I'm 18 and just graduated this year. I didn't get to enjoy it, though. I was working at the grocery store as a checkout girl when the first body slammed against the clear glass. I'll never forget the fear that washed over me at the sight of his red, hungry eyes. That night marked the loss of my innocence.... And my freedom.
Now my life is something different. No longer can we take the basic things like safety and food for granted, not to mention our lives. The zombies destroyed our entire town that first night, including the family of the college guy I had a crush on in the past. We were able to save him, but he's not the same. He's different, but so am I.
Our numbers are extremely small, but the humans have united. A new group of survivors is emerging in this nightmarish world.... And we aren't afraid to fight dirty if it ensures our survival.
We had to leave Pleasant in order to save our lives. We barely made it out alive. These zombies are entirely different than the way I'd always seen on television. They are fast, preternaturally strong, and even aware. They used that awareness to discover our small group of survivors hidden within our home. If it wasn't for Kellan we'd be dead right now, wandering the streets of Pleasant.
Kellan is something completely different than any man I've ever seen before. He's too powerful and too controlled to ever be anything like the average male. I can't explain him, but I'm glad he's on our side. Heaven help us all if he ever decides we're not worth the effort.
He's taken us to his home outside of town, if the massive fortress can be considered that. It's large enough for many more than us, self-sustaining should we be forced to remain beyond the high fence. There's something strange about the way he was so prepared for the zombie apocalypse, but it's not my place to question it. I've learned that Kellan doesn't enjoy questions, and he doesn't want anybody getting too close.
I'm leaving a handwritten map here in the hopes that there is still someone alive in this town to find it. God, I hope you are. It feels like we're the only ones left, and it's horrifying...

Prologue

Hundreds of years ago, in the land known as England, a beautiful faerie lived within a hidden realm of an enchanted forest. The faerie loved to enter into the mortal world and was fascinated by the villages and the humanity that exploration found. Realistic of the danger, she was careful to remain hidden from the hunters that could often be found within the thick, green foliage.

She wasn’t as successful as she thought. One day, while frolicking in a creek, she was approached by a stunningly attractive human male that instantly captured her interest. He was tall, dark, and very handsome, quite unlike the fair fae folk she was used to.

Unbeknownst to the faerie, though, this male was not pure of heart. He was a traveling carnival owner that heard the rumors of the wood sprite that roamed the woods, and was determined to add her to his sideshow entertainment. With a feigned interest born of greed, he quickly launched a campaign to win her trust and her freedom.

The charming man quickly took advantage of the faerie that was innocent of the customs of his world, and convinced her to run away with him. It was true he found her pale, blonde hair and plump form sensuous, but the thought of owning this supernatural creature was far more alluring. He knew once he had her in his possession, she would be his in whatever way he wanted.

Full of romantic love and promises, she left her grief-stricken family and realm forever, knowing that once she became intimate with a human she’d never be able to return to them. The doorway to her land was forever shut to anyone tainted by a mortal’s essence. Full of hope for the future she willingly left it all, giving up everything for the magical love the mortal man presented.

It didn't last, as deceptions often don't. Within hours, she realized the horrible mistake she had made and would have to live with for the rest of her days. The man was inhumanely cruel and evil, and she would never know love or peace as long as he lived.

Taking her back to the waiting wagons, he quickly chained her with iron and took her virginity, ignoring her cries and pleas for mercy. He knew their ways well. Iron prevented her from using the supernatural forces still contained within her body.

After the horror of his passion was spent, he coldly mapped out the course of her future. Her life would be spent as a sideshow freak, guarded by day and chained at night. With cold, cruel eyes, he mocked her innocence in believing he would ever marry her. Why would he? She was completely dependent on him now. He could have her anytime he wanted.

She received the news with a sense of relief. She'd seen the monster hidden in the handsome facade, and it was a face that would haunt her for as long as she lived. She didn't know what the future held for her, but she would never want to marry him. Their kind joined but once. She'd rather die than share a joining with him.

And thus, her life continued. It was a hard and terrible existence, not just for her, but for the others that were forced to do his bidding. He had made it his mission to discover the unusual and unwanted ones in the world, and did whatever he needed to obtain them. Abused by the superstitious villagers and their employer, the workers of the carnival had no escape from the drudgery and pain of the life fate had destined them for. The faerie had one satisfaction, though, and it was one she held on to.

He would continue to age, but she never would. There would come a day that she could escape this hell, and take the others with her. It was a mantra of hope, and one she lived by. The innocent and beautiful fairy grew cynical and hardened by the life she was forced to lead, but ever hopeful of the day it would all end. And so the years  passed, as they traveled all across Europe, mocked and humiliated along the way.

The end came quicker than she could have imagined, and it wasn’t by her hand. One night, the ever-changing hand of fate decided it was time to end his evil reign, and he was trampled to death underneath the hooves of a horse. His death was met with a sense of relief by all that had suffered underneath his heavy hand, but also with fear as the workers wondered what their futures were to hold.

That very night the faerie set them free. She alone knew of the hidden trunks of gold and coins he had amassed over the years. The sideshow was done. Dividing his trunks of coin among his mistreated workers, she stood by the eerie flames of a flickering bonfire and gave them a choice. Stay with her and be granted immortality and a new life or leave in peace. Either way, freedom was theirs. They would receive their share, and be free to embrace their destinies, something most of them never thought to experience.

You see, the faerie had a dream of an entirely different carnival. One that would bring the inhibited women of that time, and the future, a satisfaction they would never dream of. Only the ones that really needed it would be invited, and it would be a very exclusive invitation backed by her magical powers. It would last for just one night, but for one night that woman would be queen.

A handful of them agreed to stay, scared of the unkind world outside of their traveling caravan. Life had taught them them a cruel lesson indeed, one that they had learned well. They would never be accepted outside of the carnival. They trusted the faerie, had seen her kindness over the years, and knew she would treat them fairly. Their loyalty was absolute. None of them would ever consider betraying her.

And so, the Invitation was launched. Over the centuries, it has brought sexual fulfillment to thousands of women from all walks of life, not just from England, but worldwide. None knew who their mysterious benefactor was, nor cared. They were just grateful for the life-altering change it brought.

This is their stories, and who knows? Maybe one day the invitation will find its way into your life.

Chapter One

1995 – Chicago, IL

Giselle slid into the backseat of the cab gratefully, laying the briefcase down next to her. The long day of heavy meetings had taken its toll on her. Not to mention, the rush of the last few days. She had taken a late-night flight into Chicago the night before, not leaving much time for sleep.

The meetings had been successful, though, and she was one step closer to launching her own business. Pretty soon she would have her very own plus-sized clothing store in her hometown of San Antonio. It had taken 28 years to get to this point, but at last, she had arrived.

Today, she’d met with the designer that would be creating the trendy line of clothing that would stock her store. Her dream was to offer fuller-figure women clothing that was affordable and cute to wear. No boring smocks would line her shelves or racks. With his help, her dream was becoming a reality.

The bored cab driver cleared his throat. “Where to?”

“Hollow Heights Bed & Breakfast, please.”

He quickly eased his way out into the heavy traffic. This was her first trip to Chicago, and it had definitely been a rush. There wouldn’t be any sightseeing, though. Her return flight was scheduled to leave out first thing in the morning.

Giselle was eager to open her business. She had already rented the store, got her business insurance, and everything was ready to go. The only thing she was waiting on was the clothing itself.

She couldn't help but grin. Finally, it was in the works. The designs were great, and she felt confident her business venture was off to a great start. If all went well, she'd be open within 6 to 8 weeks.

The cab driver was silent, and so was she. It was almost dark, and they were caught in a traffic jam. With a sigh, she sat back to wait. It wasn’t as if she had to rush back to the hotel. There wasn't anybody to rush back to.

Five months ago, her current boyfriend had decided to pursue greener pastures. The sex had been lame, but she had enjoyed his companionship. The news had come as a major blow to her. She wasn’t getting any younger, and the pickings were slim when you were nearing 30 and full-figured.

Sex had actually always been kind of blah to her. After trying out a few different men, she’d quickly realized it must just be her. It was obvious she wasn’t as sexual as she thought she’d be.

She shook her head, her long curls brushing along the center of her back. There were times that she felt a stirring deep inside, but it always ended with the first thrust of intercourse. Any buildup from the brief foreplay went flat with the penetration.

Sex in reality was completely different than the romances she read. The man was always done within a minute, and honestly, they just weren’t as large as she thought they’d be. Her body craved something, but it was elusive. She couldn't put a name to it, but she knew she needed something completely different than the experiences of her past.

Her eyes gazed sightlessly at the cars around her. Was it truly a woman's lot in life to never receive the satisfaction they truly craved? Maybe it wasn't physically possible to experience an orgasm through sex. Her lips curled up in an unamused smile. That was probably why romantic books were always fiction. No matter how hard she tried to convince herself that sex like that wasn't real, her traitorous and lusty body constantly burned for it.

Her fingertips brushed up against something solid in the seat of the cab. Picking it up, she held it up in the light with a puzzled frown. It was a thick piece of paper made of heavy card stock. The lettering seemed to be written in solid gold, thick and beautifully scripted. She quickly skimmed through it, her brown eyes lighting up with interest.

A bemused expression crossed her face as she laid it back down. Had the previous passenger left it behind? She hadn’t seen the paper when she'd slid in the cab, but maybe she had just overlooked it. It sounded like some kind of sex club, something she had no experience with.

She met the cab driver’s eyes in the rear view mirror but decided not to say anything. After all, it wasn’t her business, or his either. Knowing this didn’t stop her curiosity. She couldn’t help but pick it back up and reread it. An anonymous sex club where a person could get their desires filled sounded pretty great to her.

After her latest breakup, she’d decided to try something new with her life. Dating and relationships were obviously not working for her. Sex was a promise that never got fulfilled. That was when the idea for Giselle’s Full-Figured Fashions was born.

Throwing herself completely into it, she had made record time in launching her business. Now that everything was done, she’d no longer be able to lose herself in work. It would be weeks before the manufacturer had the first of her line completed, and now she had nothing but time.

The invitation burned in her hand as curiosity teased at her mind. She was over 21 and single. What was stopping her from attending? It wasn’t as if she would know anyone there. It would be a great way to lose her inhibitions and try something she’d never done before. By the time it was over, she’d know whether or not she was frigid. What did she have to lose?

The cab was still moving at a snail’s pace. It would probably be another half-hour before they reached the bed and breakfast. Then, she'd take a bath, pack, and return to her empty house and empty life. She gnawed on her lower lip, indecisively. Did she really want to miss this opportunity?

Looking up, she saw a lit up lingerie shop on the corner. It was set at the end of a block of businesses, and the sign was large and welcoming. Excitement ran through her. It was now or never.

“I’ll just get out here,” she said, handing the fare over to the surprised cabbie. Inside, excitement nearly overwhelmed her. Come what may, she was going to step out of her comfort zone and see what the night held for her. Grabbing her briefcase and the invitation, she hopped out of the cab and headed towards her destination.
