Keep nails short and clean; the mites can get under the fingernails if you have been scratching your skin.

Clothing and bedding that is in contact with the skin should be boiled to destroy mites and eggs.

Where possible, remove the mites from their burrows with a sterilized needle.

SCHIZOPHRENIA

Schizophrenia is characterized by symptoms such as hallucinations, voices that talk to or about the patient, paranoia, violent outbursts, delusions, loss of zest for life, social withdrawal, and feeling flat. Schizophrenia is debilitating for both the patient and their family. It affects about 1 percent of the population.

CAUSES MAY INCLUDE

A family history of mental-health problems.

Biochemical abnormalities.

Stress.

Damage during birth.

Environmental toxins.

Head injuries.

High histamine levels.

Some medications.

High copper: zinc ratios.

Nutrient deficiencies, particularly magnesium, zinc, folic acid, B vitamins, and essential fats.

Action plan

Getting a handle on nutritional deficiencies can help alongside treatment.
