EXTRA TIPS

Do not remove clothing that is adhering to the wound; cut around it if necessary.

First- and second-degree burns should be immediately cooled under cold running water for at least 10 minutes.

Raw white potato slices can be cooling to burns.

Never put butter or greasy creams on burns. The heat of the burn will get worse and the pain will increase.

Apply aloe vera gel or the pulp from aloe vera leaves after cooling to ease pain.

Apply manuka honey with lint—manuka honey has traditionally been used in the treatment of burns to prevent infection and speed healing.

Apply nettle tea to reduce pain. This can also be taken as a drink.

Make a paste of slippery elm powder mixed with milk and apply to aid healing.

Keep the burnt area elevated to prevent swelling and lightly covered to reduce the danger of infection.

BURSITIS

Bursitis is inflammation of the fluid-filled sacs called bursae that provide a cushion between the tendons and bones. Common areas to be affected include the elbows, knees, hips, and shoulders. Other names for bursitis include tennis elbow, frozen shoulder, bunions, and weaver’s bottom!

Symptoms include inflammation, swelling, dull, persistent pain, and reduced range of motion.

CAUSES

Injury.

Wear and tear.

Rheumatism or arthritis.
