“You feel so fucking good.” He pulled back and thrust again. “Every.” He pulled out and then slid back in deep. “Fucking.” He thrust again. “Time.”
Hailey’s thighs tightened, as did her inner muscles around his length. “Damn you for messing all of this up,” she panted.
He paused and shook his head. She could think that. For now. He’d prove her wrong.
“I’m
never
going to be done fucking you, Hailey,” he told her brusquely. “Don’t even think this pussy is anything but
mine
.”
“Not—” she gasped as he thrust hard, “—in—” she took another deep breath as he picked up the pace of his strokes, “—Sapphire Falls,” she finally finished.
“Oh yes,” he told her firmly, pressing her hard against the door and lengthening his strokes. “In Sapphire Falls. In Denver. In Paris. On the fucking moon.”
He continued to pump into her as he spoke and he felt her climax building again, her muscles tensing around him, milking his cock.
“You’re mine, Hailey,” he said, looking directly into her eyes. “Always. Everywhere. Forever.”
She held his gaze for only a moment. Then she shook her head and closed her eyes, tipping her head back as he continued to move her closer to her orgasm.
But she didn’t close them fast enough. He saw the flicker of distress before her lids slid shut.
Distress? What the fuck was that?
Then she gasped his name and clamped down on him hard, her second orgasm rolling over her. The pleasure of being buried deep in her as she came overrode everything else, and all he could do was follow his body’s urgings to move faster and harder. He thrust again and again, feeling his release building until it finally broke loose and he came with a shout.
The waves of satisfaction washed over him and he relished the long moments it took for them to weaken to mere ripples. He kept Hailey pinned between him and the door, her legs around him, her body open and possessed by his.
Even when his climax finally faded away, he took his time pulling out and letting her go.
He sensed that once he let her go physically, she would close off to him emotionally as well.
But he’d expected a fight.
If Hailey gave in easily, he’d be concerned. Or suspicious.
Hell, half the time he was convinced she made things difficult for him because she loved having him work for it all too. In high school, she’d barely acknowledged his existence, but when he’d taken Melissa Stover to the Christmas dance, Hailey had somehow managed to get him under the mistletoe. It was as if she wanted him adoring her and would only give him enough to keep him hanging on.
And he’d hung on.
And now he was the best she’d ever had.
And she’d never walk through her front door or eat a brownie again without thinking of him.
Oh yeah, he loved that. If he could arrange it so every damned thing she did every damned day reminded her of him, he’d do it.
“Those brownies were amazing,” he said, letting her go.
She ran her hand through her hair and pulled in a deep breath. “Adrianne made them.” She reached for her bra.
“I’ll be sure to tell her thanks.”
Hailey’s head came up quickly. “No. You can’t.”
“Why not?” He grinned.
Her eyes narrowed. “Because of that,” she said, pointing a finger at his lips.
“What?” But he felt his grin grow.
“That I-just-had-sex-with-your-brownies smile,” she said. “Adrianne will think it’s weird that you’re smiling like that about her brownies.”
“We didn’t really have sex
with
the brownies,” he told her, zipping up. “We had foreplay with the brownies.”
Hailey rolled her eyes and pulled on her dress. “Just don’t say anything to her.” She crossed the foyer to the steps leading upstairs.
He started after her.
She stopped on the bottom step and turned. “What are you doing?”
“Coming upstairs with you.”
“No, you’re not.”
He tipped his head. “We’re going to bed.”
Her eyes widened. “We’re
not
going to bed. I’m going to clean up because I have to go to work.”
“It’s Saturday.”
“I’m the mayor. That’s a twenty-four-seven job, Ty.”
Yeah, yeah. Whatever. He knew she took her job seriously. She was involved with
everything
in Sapphire Falls. He loved his hometown too, but Hailey was obsessed.
He knew a bit about that though. Racing had been his life for the past eleven years. It had determined where he lived, how he spent his time, even what he ate. It had taken over everything.
Until Hailey had come to Denver to pitch an investment idea to him and he’d ended up spreading her out on his desk.
Then his life had been about racing and a woman who tied him up in knots.
His buddies in Denver knew about him and Hailey. They were the only ones he could talk to about her since she didn’t want anyone here to know about them. And his friends all thought he’d be better off with a woman who was more laid-back and more about
him
.
He was surrounded by women of all types. Finding a girlfriend who put him on a pedestal instead of the other way around would be easy enough.
But he didn’t want that. He wanted Hailey. With Hailey, he was in competition with her great love—her position as queen bee of her beloved hometown, the position she’d made a goal when she was fourteen years old. But, while he might only get a couple of days at a time, during those days, he won. He possessed her. He took over everything. She
needed
and wanted him and didn’t even remember where she was from in the midst of it all. And that was a sweet victory indeed.
Finally, he nodded. He wanted her to keep that dress on. He wanted her to keep on the panties that were wet from wanting him. He wanted her skin sticky and smelling like chocolate so that all day she’d be thinking of him.
But that was over the top.
If she was going to the office or had other mayoral duties to attend to, he couldn’t expect her to go rumpled and sticky.
He was going to have to come up with other ways to be sure she was thinking of him.
He stepped up beside her, cupped her head and kissed her. A last long, hot, wet kiss that would make her tingle for a while.
“I’ll see you later,” he said when he finally released her. “Neighbor.”
He let himself out the front door and headed for home, whistling. Partly because he was actually happy. Home was right next door to Hailey. This was going to be great. And partly because he knew she could hear him and it would drive her crazy.
Chapter Two
Three hours later, Hailey was in her office attempting to work.
And already proving what she’d known would happen.
She couldn’t get a damned thing done now that she knew Ty was back. To stay.
She was distracted. Not because she was daydreaming about him and his sun-hot skin or the way his mouth obliterated every thought in her head or the way he knew exactly where to touch her and what to say…
Okay, not
just
because she was daydreaming about him.
She was distracted because she was already feeling his effect on her. She felt softer and happier simply thinking about his smile this morning. His
smile
, for fuck’s sake. How could she be tough and demanding and bossy when she was feeling all goo-goo remembering her boyfriend’s smile?
It was Saturday, so she didn’t have any meetings or appointments, but it was her report-reading day. She constantly had a stack of boring reports and letters she had to read and the weekends were the perfect time since she didn’t have a thousand other things competing for her attention. When she could read out loud if needed to keep her mind on her work. When she could read out loud in different voices and accents to keep her mind on her work. When she could read out loud in different voices and pace her office.
All of these were techniques Lena had taught her. Hailey had to find ways of keeping her focus on her work and managing her quirks. Lena called it Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder with a comorbid anxiety disorder.
Hailey
definitely
preferred “quirks”.
She was addicted to sticky notes, highlighters, notecards and binders, but they kept her organized. They kept her on track. They helped her maintain her façade of being a totally in charge, intelligent, handle-anything mayor. A mayor who helped make Sapphire Falls a wonderful place to live. There was no harm being done here.
But the sticky notes and planners were only part of her management program. Lena had suggested several things in lieu of the medications that helped Hailey focus but gave her incapacitating headaches, including pacing and jumping jacks and even putting on some loud dance music and dancing for a song or two every thirty to sixty minutes to expel some of her pent-up energy.
Hailey didn’t sit still very well.
That was another reason she and Ty worked.
In Denver
. He didn’t sit still either, so they were often on the go when she visited. Ty’s favorite activities were physical ones, which worked well for Hailey. Hiking, rafting, skiing—it all kept her busy and calmed her overactive mind and didn’t take the concentration required by, say, reading reports. They would sometimes do a movie night or get wrapped up in a whole season of a TV show on Netflix, but it required a long day of exertion and at least three orgasms before either of them could be quiet for that long.
Of course, long days of exertion and three orgasms were common occurrences…
She
had to
stop thinking about Ty.
Hailey kicked her shoes off and did some calf raises and lunges as she tried to focus on the report in her hand.
Expansion along Nebraska highway 81 is necessary at this time due to a number of issues. 1. Traffic volume has increased 17% over the past ten years, due in part to truck traffic between Omaha and several larger farming operations in the area.
Hailey rolled her neck. This wasn’t working. She started pacing again.
She’d tried to read the reports at home, but there were way too many other things to pull at her focus. She’d look up and notice a cobweb and that would launch her into three hours of cleaning. Or she would go to get a pen and end up rearranging her living room.
The office wasn’t perfect either—she’d rearranged her office a number of times—but it was better than home. Lena said it was because in Hailey’s mind, her office was
for
work, so it made it easier to stay on track.
Hailey thought it was because she purposefully kept her office un-fun.
There were no cute prints on the walls, no Newton’s balls allowed, no quote-of-the-day calendars. It was plain and functional. White walls, gray carpet, black leather chair, desk calendar without so much as a brightly colored flower in the corner.
It also functioned to make the people who came to see her view their meetings as business and view
her
as un-fun. When meeting with someone un-fun, people tended to get to the point more quickly. That made it easier for Hailey to pay attention and care about what they were saying.
She turned at her window and paced back across her office, staring at the paragraph she’d highlighted in blue. This highway expansion proposal was serious stuff. She needed to get all of these details.
Towns along the affected route include Dawson City, Justice, Sapphire Falls and Chance. The areas of each town affected are outlined in section four, paragraphs three through six.
She knew which part of town was affected in Sapphire Falls. The area along the highway where her pet project, Sapphire Hills, the collection of locally owned shops, was located.
Which made her think about the most successful of the shops, Scott’s Sweets, her friend Adrianne’s candy shop and bakery. Which made her think about brownies. Which made her think about Ty. And get a little hot and wet under her second sundress of the day.
Damn him.
This was exactly why he couldn’t move back here. Never mind live
next door
to her.
She did a few jumping jacks and some of the deep breathing her new friend Hope had taught her.
Then she forced herself to read the first page of the report without stopping. Without thinking about ways to get Ty to move back to Denver.
But at the top of page two, it all went to hell. Had he already sold his house? God,
that
would be tragic. That house was beautiful. It was one of her favorite places in the world. Okay, mostly because of Ty and the great memories they’d made there. But the view was amazing and—
Dammit.
She moved behind her desk, sat, spread the report out on her desktop and read out loud, “Detouring traffic around construction areas will take travelers away from the towns in question, which brings up the issue of diverting potential business from these communities for an extended period of time.”
No kidding. And that was only one issue with the highway expansion proposal. The biggest for Sapphire Falls was that it would take out land on both sides of the highway. Land that had the shopping mall on one side and a walking trail that led to the park on the other.
